Empyrean

Empyrean (adjective): pertaining to the sky; formed by pure fire or light

The sky ripped open as if a flaming torrent of lava was gushing out of the heavens, celestial light and holy flames licking the clouds.

The empty ground below was completely empty…

…except for one man on the beach.

As the blazing luminescence flooded into the black earth like a candle lit in the darkness, one could easily assume that it was the end of the world.

Yet the man simply stood with his feet firmly planted in the sand, his defiant eyes gazing directly into the sun-splattered sky. He didn’t move a muscle; his profile was carved in stone and his nerves constructed of steel. His clothes were fully still. Not a trace of wind disturbed the thunderous stillness that now enveloped the area, and even the sea itself seemed quiet in the face of such a heavenly event.

For an event to be so dangerously breathtaking, as if an angel’s divine blade was befalling the earth in the seraphic execution of a sinner, surely it would be a dream?

And a dream it was.

The man was merely watching a sunset.
