The Legionnaires Strikes Back

The Legionnaires Strikes Back

Volmontono, Aeterna Region, 17 April 2141 / 17 Aprilis 1841, 09:00 pm

Captain Alejandro and his cavalry units already positioned themselves in the logistics supply of legionnaires to the Onogni town. Commander Keitel ordered his cavalry unit to conduct an ambush and raid the legionnaires' logistic supplies. Unknown to him, Commander Keitel and his unit's survivors already surrendered and been captured by the legionnaires. The reason for this action is that the legionnaires were already jamming the electronic communication, but the manacomm of Captain Alejandro still operates between themselves. Even if he cannot communicate with Commander Keitel, his objective is clear: ambush, raid, and destroy the supply logistics of the legionnaires. If it is possible to take food and supplies, they will bring them to Cossono town as additional supplies.

Captain Alejandro's cavalry units were equipped with magic muskets as primary weapons and swords as secondary weapons. Only Captain Alejandro gets permission to operate Gewehr 98 from Commander Keitel. Even though he knows that his cavalry units are no match against the legionnaire's heavy armored unit, they still inflict damage to the supply logistics unit, which is relatively weak. This logic shows that the supply logistics unit is weaker than the central fighting unit. However, there is also an escort unit to protect the logistic unit.

Captain Alejandro and his units are ready to ambush and raid the legionnaire's logistic unit in Volmontono. Volmontono becomes the main road from Onogni town to Aeterna City. They chose the hill terrain and narrow path as a good position to ambush. His cavalry unit loads fire magic powder into their magic musket, while Alejandro loads 7.92 x 57 mm cartridges into Gewehr 98. They also put a suppressor to the magic musket and Gewehr 98 to reduce the firing sound. Then, they are waiting for the logistic unit convoy from Aeterna City to Onogni town and vice versa. They also block the road with wood and stone so it can stop the enemy logistic unit movement.

"Captain Alejandro, could we defeat this strong army? I hear they utilize modern weapons on par with standard Weltenkraft Reich soldiers." Pedro, Captain Alejandro's handyman.

"If we fight them directly, yes, defeat is inevitable. However, we still have a chance if we ambush and conduct hit-and-run tactics." Captain Alejandro answers.

"Captain, we cannot contact with Commander Keitel in Cossono town. Even our representative in Cossono town did not respond through the manacomm." Miguel, another handyman, reports they cannot contact Commander Keitel and his representative in Cossono Town.

"How? Commander Keitel said the enemy could interfere with electronic communication because the United Terran is a science-technology nation. However, there is no reason they could interfere with magic communication. Could Commander Keitel have already attacked Onogni town and was defeated? This is not good." Captain Alejandro was surprised to hear his handyman report.

Suddenly, they hear machines and light from Iveco military trucks alongside some vehicles as escort from a distance approach the cavalry unit position.

"All unit, prepare to ambush. The target is approaching. We will ambush and raid the enemy." Captain Alejandro talks via manacomm to his unit.

"Sí, Señor Capitán". The cavalry unit responds.

Lucillius becomes the Commander of the logistic units of the legionnaires. Even though his position was not glorious, like that of Litorius in the Anti-air unit, Valerius in the infantry unit, and Lucullus in the armored unit, he held the most vital position during the campaign. Without Lucillius' strategic and tactical logistics planning, the Legionnaires campaign will fail because of the lack of supplies and logistics. Before the coming of United Terran, he had already joined Immunes, a logistics unit of legionnaires. After getting special training in UT ISF facilities in the United Terran, he learned about the theory and practical training about logistics and supplies of the modern military.

He likes several quotes: "Amateurs talk about strategy and tactics. Professionals talk about logistics and sustainability in warfare." by General Robert H. Barrow and "The line between disorder and order lies in coordination" by Sun Tzu. He knows his position is not glorious, but Maximus and the legionnaire's civil war campaign will fail without him and his unit. He also learns to utilize motorized vehicles, such as military trucks, to transport logistics and supplies more quickly than carriages with horses. He is also aware that the enemy can conduct an ambush, raid, and destroy his unit, so he asks Maximus to let some infantry and armored vehicles like Puma IFV escort them.

This time, Maximus ordered Litorius and Valerius to send Flakpanzer Gepard and Puma IFV to escort Lucillius's logistical unit with Iveco military trucks. When passing a narrow path in the Volmontono area, one of his subordinates reports that wood and stone are blocking their path on the road.

Lucillius immediately senses trouble. He orders his convoy to halt and signals the escort units to be highly alert. The Flakpanzer Gepard and Puma IFV maneuver into defensive positions, scanning the surrounding terrain for signs of an ambush.

"Clear the blockage, but proceed with caution," Lucillius commands, his voice steady despite the tension. His soldiers move quickly, yet carefully, towards the obstruction. They remove the wood and stones, mindful of potential traps or hidden enemies.

Volmontono, Aeterna Region, 17 April 2141 / 17 Aprilis 1841, 09:07 pm

Captain Alejandro observes the scene through the scope of his Gewehr 98. The legionnaires are moving methodically, clearly aware of the potential for an ambush. He feels a surge of respect for their discipline but knows this is their best chance. Then, he ordered his cavalry unit to become two units, an attack, and a support cavalry unit. The attack cavalry unit will engage the enemy while the support cavalry unit will steady with Captain Alejandro in the rear

"Wait for my signal," he whispers into the manacomm. His cavalry units remain perfectly still, hidden among the trees and rocks, their magic muskets ready.

As the last obstacles are cleared, Lucillius signals to move forward. The convoy begins to advance slowly, the Puma IFV leading the way, its turret scanning for threats.

Then, Captain Alejandro takes a deep breath and steadies his aim. The convoy is now entirely within the kill zone. He marks his target, the driver of the lead Iveco trucks, and pulls the trigger. He learned from Commander Keitel that shooting the windows of the driver's truck could kill and stop them. The suppressed shot is barely audible, but the impact is immediate. Unfortunately, the bullet cannot penetrate the windows of Iveco military trucks. Thanks to their nanomaterial and nanocomposite glass technology for the windows. The windows pass STANAG 4569 level 6, capable of withstanding armor-piercing fin-stabilizing discarding sabot (APFSDS) from 30 mm rounds.

"¡Ahora!" Alejandro shouts into the manacomm. His cavalry units unleash a volley of fire from their magic muskets, targeting the escort soldiers and the logistic trucks.

Even though the projectile of Gewehr 98 could not penetrate the window of the Iveco truck, it still surprised Lucillius and his logistics unit. Then, the legionnaires quickly got ready to search for the source of the fire. The legionnaires are ready for their weapons, STG 44M and MG 42M. The gunner of Puma IFV and Flakpanzer Gepard also aimed at the incoming cavalry. Unfortunately, Captain Alejandro's cavalry unit must approach Lucillius and his logistics unit to increase the probability of hitting magic muskets. This action made them enter the effective range of the legionnaire's weapons.

"The enemy cavalry, shoot your weapons. Machine gunners suppress the enemy movements. Puma and Gepard gunner, shoot your autocannon." Lucillius orders his unit to shoot the incoming cavalry.

This action is like a suicide mission, with cavalry approaching modern soldiers complete with assault rifles, machine guns, and autocannons. Captain Alejandro knows that this action is a suicide mission. However, to improve their chances of success, they must effectively approach the enemy to shoot their magic musket.

The cacophony of battle erupts as the legionnaires open fire. Bullets and autocannon rounds tear through the air, shredding the foliage and rocky cover around Alejandro's men. The disciplined legionnaires, armed with STG 44M and MG 42M, unleash a relentless barrage, their weapons spitting fire with deadly precision. STG 44M and MG 42M 7.62 x 51 mm rounds could penetrate the armor of the cavalry.

The STG 44M has an effective range of 600 meters for standard soldiers. However, if the legionnaires enchant enhanced power and accuracy, they could increase the effective range of STG 44M up to 750 meters. Even though MG 42M has a similar caliber, it has a more effective range than STG 44M.

This performance is because MG 42M has longer barrels than STG 44M as assault rifles. A longer barrel allows for more complete combustion of the gunpowder, increasing the bullet's muzzle velocity and enhancing its range and accuracy. The MG 42M is also mounted in bipods, tripods, or vehicles, providing a more stable firing platform than handheld assault rifles. This stability helps maintain accuracy over longer distances. The MG 42M are designed for sustained fire, which means they can fire continuously for extended periods without overheating. This capability allows them to engage targets effectively at greater distances through repeated fire, adjusting aim as needed. This barrage could slay the incoming cavalry and their horses.

The Puma IFV's turret swivels, its autocannon pounding away with a thunderous rhythm, while the mounted MG 42M on top of Puma also shoots the incoming cavalry. The sound of Puma 30 mm autocannon is "brap-brap-brap," and 7.62 x 51 mm of MG 42M "rat-a-tat-tat-tat" becomes the sound of death for Captain Alejandro and his cavalry units.

The 30 mm autocannon from Puma shoots high explosive incendiary with tracer (HEI-T) rounds to kill the cavalry. In the dark of night, the firing and tracer from 30 mm rounds could light the incoming and ambushing enemy troops. The high-explosive component of HEI-T rounds would generate a significant blast upon impact. This explosive force is designed to penetrate and destroy a light to medium armor used in modern military applications, and it would easily compromise the cavalry amor of Captain Alejandro, who utilizes early 20th-century technology.

The incendiary component would ignite upon impact, causing fires that could burn through armor clothing and cause severe burns to personnel. Cavalrymen and their horses, equipped with less protective gear against incendiary attacks, would be highly vulnerable to these effects. The loud explosion, bright flash, and subsequent fires would likely cause significant psychological trauma and confusion among cavalry units. The chaos caused by the explosions and fires could lead to disarray, making organized charges and maneuvers difficult. The tracer element would not add to the physical damage but would allow shooters to adjust their aim effectively. This action would ensure more accurate targeting of moving cavalry units, increasing the likelihood of hits.

Even though it does not utilize HEI-T rounds because of the small caliber, 7.62 x 51 mm utilizes armor-piercing incendiary with tracer (API-T) rounds. The tracer element in API-T rounds allows the machine gunner to adjust their aim effectively. The hardened core of the API-T round is designed to penetrate modern armor, which is far superior to the steel plate or chainmail used by early 20th-century cavalry. The round would easily penetrate the armor worn by cavalrymen and their horses. The armor-piercing capability would also allow the round to penetrate horse armor, causing significant injury or death to the horse effectively incapacitating the cavalryman.

The incendiary component of the round would ignite upon impact, potentially setting fire to clothing, leather saddles, and any other flammable materials. This impact would cause additional damage and panic among the cavalry. The incendiary effect would also create fear and confusion, further disrupting the cavalry unit's cohesion and effectiveness. MG 42M machine guns chambered in 7.62×51mm would allow for a high rate of fire, delivering multiple API-T rounds rapidly. This action would overwhelm cavalry units relying on speed and massed charges.

Figure 1. The art style of Legionnaires shoot 30 mm autocannon of Puma IFV [1]

The Flakpanzer Gepard's dual cannons join the fray, adding to the hellish symphony. Even though Gepard specializes in shooting down low-altitude and slow-flying objects, its 35 mm twin autocannons could support the ground troops. The sound of the 35 mm twin autocannon is "drararara," which also becomes the sound of death for the enemy cavalry. Before firing, the loader loads the HEI-T rounds to obliterate and kill the enemy cavalry.

Captain Alejandro's cavalry charges forward, braving the storm of bullets and autocannon fire. The forest echoes with the cacophony of battle-the relentless rat-a-tat-tat of machine guns, the booming "brap-brap-brap-brap" of autocannons, and the harrowing "drararara" of dual cannons. The air is thick with smoke and the acrid smell of gunpowder.

Alejandro's men push on despite the chaos, their faces set with grim determination. They know this might be their final stand, but their loyalty to their captain and cause fuels their courage. The magic in their muskets might be their only hope of piercing through their adversaries' advanced technology.

As the first wave of cavalry reaches the effective range, they unleash a volley of shots from their magic muskets. The enchanted projectiles crackle with arcane energy, streaking through the air toward the legionnaires. The magic-infused bullets explode on impact, sending shockwaves through the enemy ranks and momentarily disrupting their formation.

However, the legionnaires quickly recover, and their training and discipline prevail. They adjust their aim and continue their barrage, targeting the most threatening cavalrymen with lethal precision. The Puma IFV and Flakpanzer Gepard concentrate their fire on the densest clusters of cavalry, their autocannons tearing through men and horses alike.

Captain Alejandro, still perched atop his vantage point, scans the battlefield with his binoculars from Mr. 03. He spots Lucillius, the enemy commander, coordinating his troops with unyielding resolve. He knows Lucillius becomes the Commander of this convoy because Lucillius orders and commands the legionnaires to take action. Also, Lucillius's uniform is different from that of ordinary legionnaires. Alejandro knows that taking out Lucillius could turn the tide of the battle. He steadies his aim again, lining up his shot through the chaos.

"Hold steady, men. Focus your fire on their Commander!" Alejandro shouts through the manacomm, his voice carrying a mix of desperation and hope.

The cavalrymen redirect their fire, aiming their magic muskets towards Lucillius. The enchanted projectiles streak through the air, forcing Lucillius and his guards to take cover. However, the legionnaires respond with increased ferocity, suppressing fire and making it nearly impossible for Alejandro's men to get a clear shot.

Lucillius recognizes the threat and calls for reinforcements. Additional troops emerge from the convoy's rear, equipped with advanced weaponry and protective gear. They form a defensive line, covering their Commander and repelling the cavalry's assault with devastating efficiency.

The battle rages on, with casualties only on the attack cavalry side because of the legionnaires' superior weapons and vehicle technology. Captain Alejandro's forces, though brave and determined, are outmatched by the legionnaires' superior firepower and tactical advantage. The magic muskets, while powerful, cannot compete with the sheer destructive capability of modern weapons.

As the last of his attack cavalry unit falls, Alejandro realizes their only chance is a strategic retreat. He signals his remaining men to pull back, their magic muskets providing covering fire as they withdraw. The forest provides some concealment, allowing the survivors to escape the relentless onslaught.

Captain Alejandro takes one final look at the battlefield, his heart heavy with defeat. However, he knows that they have bought valuable time for their allies. The legionnaires may have won this battle, but the war is far from over.

"Fall back!" Alejandro orders, his voice resolute. "Regroup and prepare for the next fight. We will not let their sacrifice be in vain."

Lucillius watches through his binoculars as the remnants of Captain Alejandro's cavalry attempt to retreat. He recognizes the strategic importance of not allowing enemies to escape, relay information, or regroup. With a determined scowl, he issues swift orders through his comms device.

"All units, do not let them escape! Pursue and eliminate every last one of them. Flakpanzer Gepard lay down suppressive fire on their retreat path. Puma IFV moved to cut off their escape route. Infantry, advance, and engage!" Lucillius commands with unwavering resolve.

The Flakpanzer Gepard's dual 35mm cannons roar to life again, spewing out a relentless stream of HEI-T rounds that tear through the forest, exploding upon impact and setting trees ablaze. The deadly barrage forces Alejandro's men to scatter, breaking their formation and hindering their retreat.

The Puma IFV accelerates, its turret swiveling to track the fleeing cavalry. The 30mm autocannon thunders as it fires round after round, each high-explosive projectile designed to obliterate anything in its path. The mounted MG 42M adds to the chaos, its rapid-fire rounds mowing down any cavalrymen who manage to evade the autocannon's wrath.

Captain Alejandro, still directing his men from his vantage point, realizes their peril. He knows that they will be annihilated if they do not find a way to break free. His heart pounds as he shouts orders to his remaining cavalrymen.

"Keep moving! Do not stop! Use the trees and rocks for cover!" Alejandro's voice is a blend of desperation and determination.

The cavalrymen, their numbers dwindling, push through the underbrush, their magic muskets crackling with arcane energy as they fire back at the advancing legionnaires. The enchanted bullets explode on impact, creating temporary barriers of chaos and destruction. However, the legionnaires' superior training and firepower quickly regained battlefield control.

Lucillius advances with his men, his eyes fixed on the retreating figures. He knows that capturing or killing Captain Alejandro would be a significant victory. He orders his subordinate, Appius, who excels in marksmen and sniper weapons, an advanced Accuracy International AXMC sniper rifle, to be ready, and he moves with the confidence of pro marksmen.

Marksmen and snipers legionnaires escort the logistics unit to provide additional support and protection to convoys transporting critical supplies. Their advanced marksmanship skills are valuable for spotting and neutralizing threats from a distance, ensuring the safety of the logistics convoy. Before the movement of a logistics convoy, snipers may be part of advanced reconnaissance teams to scout routes for potential ambushes or enemy activity. Their skills in observation and stealth are crucial in gathering intelligence and ensuring safe passage for the logistics unit.

Initially, Appius was a member of Centuria Sagittariorum, sniper units in the Infantry Cohort or battalion. As the Centurion of Centuria Sagittariorum, Flavius sent Appius to help Lucillius with additional support and protection. Appius could help Lucillius conduct recon and defense teams. Flavius thinks Appius could help Lucillius and conduct a protection mission for the valuable modern and advanced logistics from the United Terran.

"Kill enemy commander. Gaius, you help Appius to kill the enemy commander. Take this communication device and a new transport vehicle. I know you have already mastered and controlled this vehicle." Lucillius orders Gaius, an ordinary legionnaire with an interest in military motorcycles.

"Yes, Praefectus. I will pursue the enemy with Appius. Fortunately, I know of this area." Gaius responds.

"Good. Appius, I want you to kill the enemy commander. Take a different route with Gaius and kill him. Also, if you could, kill the remaining enemy from your position." Lucillius orders Appius.

"Yes, Praefectus. I will do my best." Appius responds.

Then, both of them ride the new motorcycle, Altius Scimitar, for the recon unit in the frontline. Initially, Maximus wanted to utilize these motorcycles alongside Willy Jeeps as ground recon units. However, because Colonel Ermey's help permitted them to use SR-01 and MQ-01 Grey Eagle recon data, Willy Jeeps and Altius Scimitar could be utilized during the attack of Cossono Town. Ironically, the logistics unit, the rear unit, became the first to utilize the recon vehicle.

Taking another route, Gaius rides the motorcycle with Appius to set an ambush position. Thanks to concrete roads, Gaius can ride the motorcycle at high speed and arrive at the position before Alejandro and his cavalry units. After several minutes, Gaius stops his motorcycle and helps Appius set up his sniper rifle. For now, Gaius will help Appius as a spotter. Then, they wait for the incoming Alejandro and his cavalry units.

Meanwhile, in the pursuit process, Lucillus orders his legionnaires to pursue Alejandro and annihilate the remaining cavalry units.

"Surround them! Do not let them escape!" Lucillius barks, his voice cutting through the cacophony of battle.

Puma IFV and Gepard pursue the enemy cavalry units to annihilate the remaining enemy unit.

Volmontono, Aeterna Region, 17 April 2141 / 17 Aprilis 1841, 10:10 pm

Despite their fatigue and injuries, Captain Alejandro's remaining cavalrymen push through the forest grimly. The trees and rocks offer limited cover against the relentless barrage from the legionnaires, but they press on, their loyalty to their captain and cause burning brightly.

Lucillius, observing the battlefield from the monitoring screen, sees the strategic opportunity to cut off Alejandro's escape. Small recon drones from UT ISIA native agents were utilized to monitor and track enemy retreats. He could analyze and propose an effective method to annihilate the enemy from the recon data. The recon data is also sent to Gaius and Appius for the ambush and assassinate mission.

He orders his men to form a pincer movement, their advanced training allowing them to maneuver swiftly and effectively through the terrain. Even though they are logistics units, some people who are under training in UT ISF facilities and the rest of the units are under training in Aeterna Regions could conduct the standard modern military operational procedure.

As Alejandro leads his men through a narrow valley, he realizes too late that they are heading into a trap. The sound of engines and the roar of autocannons echo through the forest, signaling the arrival of the Puma IFV and Flakpanzer Gepard, ready to cut off their escape route.

"Hold the line. We must break through!" Alejandro shouts, his voice carrying over the din of battle.

The cavalrymen, whose numbers are dwindling, rally around their captain. They fire their magic muskets with renewed fervor, the enchanted bullets creating temporary pockets of chaos and destruction. However, the legionnaires' superior firepower and tactical advantage quickly regain battlefield control.

Gaius and Appius, positioned ahead of the retreating cavalry, ready their weapons. Gaius, acting as a spotter, identifies Captain Alejandro among the fleeing men.

"Gaius, Appius, the enemy is approaching your position. Remember to kill the enemy commander first. Based on drone visual data, the enemy commander uses a uniform and communication device different from the rest. You could see a modern communication device in his helmet. I rely upon the visual data to your device, Gaius." Lucillius informs Gaius and Appius about the details and sends the visual information of Captain Alejandro in the fleeing cavalry units.

"Affirmative, Praefectus. Waiting for the target to approach the designed location." Gaius responds.

"Good luck, milites. I pray for your success." Lucillius prays for the success of Gaius and Appius.

Then Gaius and Appius checked and waited for the incoming target, Captain Alejandro. Thanks to advanced communication device technology from the United Terran, Gaius and Appius could monitor the target in real time. After several minutes, the ping from the communication devices showed the target approaching the location. Then, Appius prepared his sniper rifle and aimed at the incoming target.

"There he is. Take the shot." Gaius whispers, pointing out Alejandro to Appius.

Appius, a marksman with deadly precision, lines up his shot with his advanced Accuracy International AXMC sniper rifles. The rifle's scope provides a clear view of Alejandro, and his determined expression is visible even through the chaos of battle. He calculates and aims for Alejandro's projected position. His training in hell in UT ISF facilities will prove his skill in killing the moving target.

"Steady... steady... One shot, One kill." Appius mutters to himself, his finger gently squeezing the trigger.

The shot rings out, a single, deadly crack that cuts through the noise of battle. The bullet, enchanted for enhanced accuracy and lethality, finds its mark, striking Captain Alejandro in the chest.

Alejandro staggers, a look of shock and pain crossing his face. He collapses to the ground, clutching his wound. His men, seeing their captain fall, are thrown into disarray. The cohesion of the cavalry unit crumbles as they scramble to protect their fallen leader.

"Captain! No!" one of his men cries, rushing to Alejandro's side.

Lucillius, watching from the command center screen, sees the shot's impact. He orders his men to press the attack, determined to eliminate the remaining cavalry.

"Advance! Finish them off!" Lucillius commands, his voice cold and resolute.

The legionnaires' morale, bolstered by the sight of the enemy commander falling, redoubled their efforts. The Puma IFV and Flakpanzer Gepard unleash a devastating barrage, their autocannons and machine guns tearing through the remaining cavalry.

Appius, satisfied with his shot, watches as the chaos unfolds. Gaius, still acting as spotter, keeps an eye on the battlefield.

"We did it," Gaius says, a hint of relief in his voice.

"Yes, but it is not over yet. Give me another target, Gaius." Appius replies, reloading his sniper rifle and taking aim at another target.

With Gaius's direction, Appius could kill more than ten enemy cavalry, especially the enemy approaching and checking Alejandro's condition.

Captain Alejandro, his vision fading, looks up at the sky. His thoughts drift to the cause he fought for, the men who followed him, and the sacrifices they made. He knows that his death will not be in vain, that the fight will continue, even without him.

"Fight on. Do not let our comrade sacrifice be in vain." Alejandro whispers to his remaining cavalry unit, his voice barely audible.

With a final, shuddering breath, Captain Alejandro succumbs to his wounds. Seeing their captain fall, his men fight with renewed fury, determined to honor his last command.

Suddenly, Appius shot the remaining cavalry unit, and he was killed instantly. At the same time, the barrage of Puma IFV autocannon and machine guns killed other remaining cavalry units.

The battle rages on, but the outcome is clear. The legionnaires' superior technology and tactical advantage overwhelm the remaining cavalry. One by one, Alejandro's men fall, their bravery and determination unable to overcome the sheer firepower of their enemies.

Lucillius, overseeing the final stages of the battle, allows himself a moment of satisfaction. The enemy commander is dead, and the cavalry has been decimated. However, he knows this victory is only a small part of a larger war.

"Secure the area. Ensure no one escapes." Lucillius orders, his voice calm and authoritative.

The legionnaires, disciplined and efficient, move through the battlefield, securing the area and ensuring no enemies remain. The forest, once a place of natural beauty, is now a scene of devastation and loss.

As the dust settles, Lucillius looks at the fallen enemy commander. He feels a pang of respect for Alejandro's bravery and leadership, but his resolve remains unshaken.

"The war is far from over. However, today, we have won a decisive victory in this battle. Because we use some ammunition and supplies during the battle, I want some of you to return to Aeterna City to resupply and bring additional logistics. The rest will continue and join Legatus Maximus in Cossono town to advance and recapture Noplos City." Lucillius mutters, turning away from the battlefield.

With that, he strides away, ready to continue the fight, knowing that the war will demand many more sacrifices before it is finally won. Then, Lucillius split his unit into two, the first returning to Aeterna City to resupply and the rest continuing their advance to Cossono town.

Cossono Town, Aeterna Region, 18 April 2141 / 18 Aprilis 1841, 09:00 am

Maximus and his legionnaires are ready to advance and recapture Noplos City. Previously, he was waiting for Lucillius to bring the additional supplies. However, the supplies were less than expected because the Lucillius unit was attacked by the Alejandro cavalry unit. Maximus knew he did not have much time, and the weapons, ammunition, and modern supplies from the United Terran were limited. Then, he chose to advance and let another logistics unit return to resupply the remaining logistics in Aeterna City.

"Legatus, we are under attack by enemy cavalry at Volmonto Path. Fortunately, there were no casualties on our side. However, we used the ammo and supplies to annihilate the enemy, so the supplies were less than expected. We have already split the logistics team into two when the first team arrives in Cossono town, while the second will return to Aeterna City and resupply. To prevent the potential enemy ambush and raid, UT ISIA native agents will help us counter enemy threats." Lucillius report to Maximus.

"Thank you, Lucillius. Thankfully, your logistics unit did not suffer any casualties. Even though the supplies are less than expected, we must continue our advance and retake the Noplos City." Maximus responds.

"Valerius, Lucullus, Litorius, tell your Cohort unit we will advance in two hours. Lucillius, inform your unit in Aeterna City to come to the first line of defense. Collaborate with UT ISIA native agents to secure the roads from Aeterna City to the first line of defense. We only have limited supplies, fuels, and ammunition. We must capture Noplos City, Pampoi City, and Colobria City as quickly as possible." Maximus orders his commanders.

"Yes, Legatus. We will do our best". All commanders respond.

"Lucullus, tell Drusus to come here." Maximus orders Lucullus to call Drusus.

"Yes, Legatus. I will call him." Lucullus responds.

After some minutes, Lucullus arrived with Drusus to the command center.

"Drusus at your service, Sir Legatus." Drusus salutes Maximus.

"Drusus, because you are responsible for artillery operation in PzH 2000 and M777 Howitzer, I will grant you the Praefectus Tormentorum or artillery unit commander. You will be equivalent to other commanders. Your mission becomes vital from now on because you will lead the first attack to bombard the enemy position. Coordinate with the command center in Aeterna City and the drone operator to obtain actual enemy coordinates. I expect your achievement, Praefectus Drusus." Maximus granted the Praefectus Tormentorum title to Drusus and expected his excellent performance.

"Thank you, Legatus. I will do my best for the legion and our Empire." Drusus responds.

Initially, Drusus became the Commander of the PzH 2000 unit under Lucullus. He also knows how to operate and command the M777 Howitzer because he trained for artillery and self-propelled guns (SPG) in UT ISF facilities in the United Terran. Maximus knows he needs a commander for special units in Howitzer to conduct Shock and Awe operations. So, he granted Drusus the title of Praefectus Tormentorum to manage artillery units and conduct bombardment of the enemy position.

After several preparations in two hours, Maximus and his legionnaires were ready to advance to the first line of defense. After that, they will continue to retake Noplos City.

"All right, legions. We will advance to the first line of defense and rest. After taking rest, we will continue to retake Noplos City." Maximus orders.

Strong combined legionnaires consist of infantry, armored, anti-air, and artillery units, and they then continue their advance to the first line of defense.

Noble Palace, Noplos City, 18 April 2141/18 Aprilis 1841, 09:00 am

Mr.03, Duke Romulus, and Mr. 06 are agitated because they cannot contact Commander Keitel and his forces. They lost contact with Commander Keitel three days ago when the combined unit passed the Aeterna Region border. There are several reasons for this: first, Commander Keitel cannot contact because of communication interference in the Aeterna Region; second, interference of United Terran through jamming; and the worst case, Commander Keitel and his unit are already defeated.

The first reason is impossible. Even though there is geological interference, Commander Keitel's communication device utilizes a modern device from Weltenkraft Reich. They can continue to inform the command center in Noplos City when the geological interference is minimal. The second reason is possible. Based on operative capability, modern weapons, and jet fighters, United Terran could also be jamming the Aeterna Region's connection. However, there is one question: How could the United Terran jam in a large area? It would be logical and make sense if they could jam around the military hub or Aeterna City. Nevertheless, they could jam the communication when Commander Keitel and his unit passed the border, while the border range to the nearest town was more than 100 km.

When the communication was jammed, the soldiers in Weltenkraft Reich or the People's Republic of Uroslav only heard the noises, so the receiver could not hear or receive the actual communication from the source. In this case, Mr. 03 and the command center in Noplos City could not communicate directly with Commander Keitel. Something blocks the frequency from Commander Keitel and the command center.

The worst case, and also possible, is the joint force of United Terran and Fortisregnum Empire legions defeating Commander Keitel's unit. Based on Commander Pompius's report, the United Terran Force utilizes modern weapons, such as panzers, vehicles, SPAAG, and cannons, which resemble Weltenkraft Reich's modern weapons. Commander Keitel's weapons, equipment, panzers, and vehicles are outdated versions of Weltenkraft Reich, so a more advanced and modern enemy could defeat them.

Mr. 03, the leaderboard and person in charge of the Black Shadow operation in Fortisregnum Empire, substitute for Mr. 0, cursed this condition. They did not know that United Terran would send their modern weapons, equipment, panzers, and vehicles to the backward nation like the Fortisregnum Empire. Only Stalinium-80 Main Battle Tanks (Sta-80 MBT) and Leninium-80 Jet Fighters (Len-80) are on par with current United Terran weapons capable of fighting and defeating them. However, there are limited Sta-80 MBTs in ten units and Len-80 Jet Fighters in twelve or one squadron.

"Mr. 06, how about the condition of our Sta-80 MBTs and Len-80 Jet Fighters?" Mr. 03 asked Mr.06

"Mr. 07 responds that they need to check and finish the preparation of Sta-80 MBTs and Len-80 Jet Fighters. Mr.06 responds.

"What? Are they still preparing it? It has been nearly one month since they were in Pampoi City. How could they not finish yet?" Mr. 03 asked Mr. 06 again.

"Sir, Sta-80 MBTs and Len-80 Jet Fighters are our outdated tanks and jet fighters. They have not operated for more than fifty years, so they must undergo strict inspection and checking processes. Also, in Pampoi City, we did not have advanced and modern equipment to check the tanks and jet fighters." Mr. 06 responds.

Mr. 03 knows this as the person in charge of the Black Shadow operation logistics. He thinks they will not operate Sta-80 MBTs and Len-80 Jet Fighters because they only fight against legionnaires from backward nations. However, after United Terran, an unknown and advanced nation, joined in this civil war, their plan deviated from the actual plan. The slavery faction army suffers losses in attrition battles in the Cossogno Region, losing aircraft (monoplane fighters, close air supports, and tactical bombers) in the Pampoi Region and tremendous losses while marching to the Noplos City. The interference of operatives from United Terran caused these losses.

The slavery faction army also lost their massive wyvern squadrons during the recon mission to the Aeterna Region, their air bombing raid, and fighters squadrons. Now, they lost contact with the ground army of Commander Keitel's unit. The easiest mission becomes the nightmare for the Black Shadow. Their only hope is in Sta-80 MBTs and Len-80 Jet Fighters as the game changer in this civil war.

Mr. 03 paced the room, his frustration mounting. The loss of contact with Commander Keitel and the unforeseen involvement of the United Terran forces had thrown their plans into disarray. He needed solutions, and he needed them fast.

"Mr. 06, what are our suggestions and immediate options for our current condition?" Mr. 03 demanded.

"Sir, our best course of action would be to expedite the readiness of the Sta-80 MBTs and Len-80 Jet Fighters. We need to mobilize additional resources to Pampoi City to ensure they are operational as soon as possible. Even though the result will not be the same as the quality from the Motherland, we could operate as soon as possible." Mr. 06 replied to the suggestion to hasten the checking process of Sta-80 MBTs and Len-80 Jet Fighters.

"Do we have any operatives or units closer to Pampoi City that could assist with the preparations?" Mr. 03 asked, his mind racing through the logistics.

"Unfortunately, we did not have Sir. However, we could boost them with good incentives and appreciation for the current engineers inspecting Sta-80 and Len-80." Mr. 06 suggested.

"Excellent. Make the necessary arrangements and get them there immediately." Mr. 03 ordered.

As typical of Uroslav people, they strongly focused on achieving high production quantities, often driven by centrally planned economic goals and quotas. This emphasis on quantity sometimes led to rushed production processes and inadequate inspection standards, resulting in lower-quality goods. Also, because of the communist and centralistic government, the Uroslav people sometimes did it only to please their bosses or "just to please the boss," which resulted in rushed action and production. This action will become a nightmare when they fight against the legionnaires soon.

"And what about our intelligence on United Terran's capabilities? Why can we not approach and contact Commander Keitel? We need to find a way to counter it." Mr. 03 ordered.

"Our intelligence suggests that the United Terran uses a new long-range jamming device. It is likely mobile and could be relocated to keep our forces in the dark. Even though Motherland's researchers and engineers researched how to operate it, fortunately, we have a specialist in electronic warfare, Mr. 08, who might have some insights on how to counteract it." Mr. 06 responded, understanding the urgency of the United Terran jamming power.

"Jamming? So, United Terrans already mastered this electronic warfare. Without proper weapons and equipment, we cannot underestimate them. This mission would be beyond our capability." Mr. 03 commented on the electronic capability of United Terran.

"Rest assured, Mr. 03. Mr. 08 will do his best to solve this problem." Mr. 06 responds.s

"Bring Mr. 08 here. We need every possible angle covered. In the meantime, we need to increase our reconnaissance efforts. I want eyes on every potential enemy position and jamming device." Mr. 03 commanded.

Mr. 06 saluted and left the room to carry out the orders. Mr. 03 turned back to the map spread out on the table. The Aeterna Region was marked with red lines, indicating the lost contact and the potential positions of the United Terran forces. The situation was dire, but he was determined to turn it around.

Moments later, Mr. 08 entered the room with a determined look. "You wanted to see me, sir?" Mr. 08 responds.

"Yes, Mr. 08. We need a countermeasure for the United Terran's jamming devices. What can you tell me about their capabilities and how we can neutralize them?" Mr. 03 asked.

"The jamming devices they are using are likely highly advanced and mobile. They can cover large areas, so we have lost contact over such a wide region. However, these devices require significant power sources and are not easily concealed. If we can locate them, we can disable them through direct assault or disrupting their power supply." Mr. 08 stepped closer to the map, pointing to critical locations.

Coincidentally, Mr. 08 could explain similar to the mechanism and work of jamming devices. However, there is a flaw in Mr. 08's explanation: the infrastructure in Fortisregnum Empire is still limited, and United Terran could not send airborne early warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft. Because of this limited condition, Colonel Ermey in the Defense Command Center asked permission from the lunar base to jam enemy communication in the Aeterna Region through satellites. So, Mr. 08 and the slavery faction must locate the source, the satellites of United Terran, in space.

"We need a two-pronged approach. First, increase our reconnaissance to locate these jamming devices. Second, a strike team should be prepared to neutralize them as soon as they are found. Can you coordinate this with our ground forces? We could utilize the rest of the panzers and infantry from Mr. 01 to attack the enemy. Mr. 06 and Mr. 08 coordinate with Commander Dietrich to prepare for this operation. However, be careful when you enter the Aeterna Region. I assume the location is around the Aeterna Region border, so search and destroy the enemy jammer device." Mr. 03 nodded, considering the options.

"Absolutely, Sir. I will get on it right away," Mr. 06 and Mr. 08 responded.

As Mr. 08 left to begin his preparations, Mr. 03 felt a renewed sense of purpose. The situation was challenging, but they could overcome these obstacles with the right strategies and resources.

"Mr. 06, ensure all our forces are on high alert. When we have a clear target on those jamming devices, I want them removed. Moreover, it expedites the readiness of those Sta-80 MBTs and Len-80 Jet Fighters. This civil war is far from over, and we will not let the United Terran or any other force stand in our way." Mr. 03 orders Mr. 06 to prepare the Sta-80 MBTs and Len-80 Jet Fighters.

"Understood, sir," Mr. 06 replied, saluting sharply.

As the room buzzed with activity, Mr. 03 knew their next moves would be critical. The balance of power in this war was shifting, and it was up to them to tip it back in their favor. The stakes were high, but they would prevail with determination and strategic precision.

Copoa Town, Cosorto Region, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 08:00 am

Maximus and his legionnaires arrive at Copoa town in Cosorto Region. They arrived last night at Copoa Town. They could arrive quickly thanks to a modern and concrete route to the first line of defense at the border between the Aeterna and Cosorto regions. The attack plan is delayed because they need additional reinforcement and supplies to arrive at the first line of defense. However, because of additional reinforcement and supply logistics, the power of Maximus combined legions is boosted.

After being reinforced by additional reinforcement and supplies, the total strength of Maximus combined legionnaires force (CLF) is five Panther II MBTs, seven Puma IFVs, five PzH 2000, seven Gepards, seven Bofors cannons, seven M777 Howitzer, and twenty-five IVECO military trucks. Colonel Ermey also commanded Maximus to operate the MQ-9 Reaper as airstrike support and the MQ-1C Grey Eagle as recon.

Maximus then called Valerius, Commander of the Infantry Cohort, Lucullus, Commander of the Armored Cohort, Litorius, Commander of the Anti-Air Cohort, and Drussus, Commander of the Artillery Cohort, to discuss the attack of Noplos City.

Maximus stood at the center of the makeshift command tent, a large map of the region spread out before him. His commanders-Valerius, Lucullus, Litorius, and Drusus-stood around the table, awaiting his orders. The tension in the air was palpable as they prepared for the final push towards Noplos City.

"Legionnaires, our mission is clear. We must retake Noplos City swiftly and decisively. We have the advantage of surprise and the support of modern technology from the United Terran. Our combined forces are stronger than ever. Valerius, your infantry will be the backbone of our assault. Lucullus, your armored units will spearhead our advance. Litorius, your anti-air units must ensure our skies remain clear. Drusus, your artillery will provide the necessary bombardment to weaken enemy defenses." Maximus ordered his commanders, his voice steady and commanding.

"First, we will send MQ-1C Grey Eagle to recon enemy condition and position. After we get the enemy's coordinates, we will bombard the enemy's position with our Pzh 2000 and M777 Howitzer if the enemy has anti-air weapons. However, if the enemy did not have anti-air weapons, we could send MQ-9 Reaper as the first airstrike. Use a firing control system from United Terran to bombard the enemy position while precisely reducing collateral damage. After airstrike and bombardment, Panther II will spearhead and break through the enemy position, while Puma IFV will provide additional fire support. After the area is safe, the infantry will disembark from Puma and secure the area. We have swept all areas so as not to let the enemy ambush the armored unit. Remember to minimize the collateral damage. Thankfully, the people of Noplos City evacuated to Aeterna City so we could focus on defeating the enemy." Maximus explains the plan to attack the enemy.

"Our artillery will rain destruction on the enemy, Legatus. The PzH 2000s and M777 Howitzers are ready for action. After we acquire the enemy's position and coordinate, we will bombard them with our Pzh 2000 and M777 Howitzers." Drusus, newly appointed Praefectus Tormentorum, responded.

"Our Panther II MBTs and Puma IFVs will lead the charge. The enemy will not know what hit them. Based on our battle with enemy tanks in Cossono town, Panther II is proven to knock out enemy armored units. However, we need cover from enemy anti-tank guns and possible airstrikes." With a confident smile, Lucullus added that his armored unit would spearhead to break through enemy defense.

"My Infantry cohort is ready, Legatus. We will march with precision and determination. I will dispatch Flavius and his Sniper centurion to ground recon and conduct a sniping mission to the enemy. Standard legionnaires will cover in the rear of armored unit while advancing and swipe the remaining enemy infantry." Valerius responds

"Our Gepards and Bofors cannons are primed to protect our forces from aerial threats." Litorius, ever vigilant, assured that no enemy aircraft and wyvern would threaten the CLF.

"Good. We advance at first light. Lucillius, ensure our logistics are coordinated with the UT ISIA native agents to secure the supply routes from Aeterna City. We cannot afford any disruptions." Maximus nodded, satisfied with their readiness.

"Understood, Legatus," Lucillius replied.

As the meeting concluded, Maximus felt a surge of confidence. His legionnaires were ready, and the plan was solid. They would reclaim Noplos City and turn the tide of this war.

Cosorto and Noplos Border, Noplos Region, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 08:00 am

Commander Dietrich and his combined unit arrived at a rest point from the Cosorto and Noplos Border. Learning of lost contact with Commander Keitel's unit, Commander Dietrich wanted air wings from Pampoi City that could give them air superiority and close air support. He thinks the enemy has already defeated Commander Keitel's unit, supported by jet fighters.

Based on the last communication from Commander Thomsen, the enemy utilized jet fighters resembling Bi-62 jet fighters. Even though the enemy utilized jet fighters, the swarm of Bi-52s could shoot down enemy aircraft. Bi-37 and Bi-38 could give close air support to the enemy. However, because the enemy utilized SPAAG resembling Flakpanzer Ostwind and anti-air cannons resembling Flak 37 mm, the CAS and tactical bomber unit must be careful when conducting close air support missions.

"Mr. 07, we need fighters, CAS, and tactical bomber unit to conduct air superiority and close air support mission. I am afraid their jet fighters, who defeated Thomsen and Commander Keitel, will give us another threat." Commander Dietrich asked Mr. 07 to send fighters, CAS, and tactical bombers.

"Understood. I will support you with more fighters, CAS, and tactical bombers. However, based on previous information, the enemy utilizes the same SPAAG and anti-air cannons as your nation. I hope you can clear it before the air wings come to assist you." Mr. 07 responds.

"Yes, Sir. I will do my best to destroy enemy SPAAG and anti-aircraft guns. Thank you for your support." Commander Dietrich thanks Mr. 07.

Commander Dietrich's units are more powerful than Commander Keitel's units. They consist of twelve Panzerkampfwagen Jaguar I, six Panzerkampfwagen Jaguar II, fifty blitz trucks, five Muka-99 Man-portable anti-tank systems (MANPATS), five Strela-90 Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS), and more than one hundred fifty infantry with rifles, assault rifles, and submachine guns.

Secret Hangar II and III, Pampoi Region, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 08:30 am

After communication with Commander Dietrich, Mr. 07 reviewed the result of four days ago, when Thomsen fighters and bomber's air wings were annihilated during an air raid bombing. The enemy utilizes jet fighters resembling Bi-62 from Weltenkraft Reich. However, the difference between Bi-62 and the jet fighters from United Terran is that it can launch air-air missiles (AAM) beyond the visual range of Bi-52 pilots.

This capability is only present in modern jet fighters of the PRU, such as the Leninium (Len-37) Terminator and the prototype stealth jet fighters of the Len-47 Talon. The extent to which older jet fighters can launch missiles beyond visual range remains a mystery. However, it is known that the United Terran is an advanced nation on par with or slightly better than the PRU.

Based on Thomsen's last information, the enemy only utilizes six jet fighters, so there is a chance to overwhelm them with the swarm of Bi-52 fighters. Even though significant losses are expected, as long as they can shoot down enemy jet fighters, it will significantly blow the United Terran and legionnaires.

Then, he called Commander Adelstein, Commander Thomsen's comrade, to prepare his wings and help Commander Dietrich to conduct another attack and destroy the enemy jammer around the Aeterna Border.

Commander Adelstein, a seasoned air commander, received the urgent call from Mr. 07. Reviewing the situation quickly, he understood the mission's gravity. The annihilation of Thomsen's air wings had been a significant setback, but this new engagement could turn the tide if handled correctly.

"Commander Adelstein, I need you to mobilize your air wings immediately. Coordinate with Commander Dietrich on the ground. Your primary objectives are to gain air superiority and provide close air support. Be prepared for significant anti-air threats, including SPAAGs and anti-aircraft cannons. Your priority is to neutralize enemy jet fighters and support ground forces by destroying enemy air defenses," Mr. 07 ordered.

"Understood, Mr. 07. I will prepare my wings and deploy immediately. We will ensure those jet fighters are neutralized and provide the support Commander Dietrich needs," Adelstein responded with determination.

Commander Adelstein swiftly moved to prepare his air wings. The hangar buzzed with activity as pilots suited up and ground crews readied the aircraft for the impending mission. The Bi-52 fighters, though older, were reliable and heavily armed, ready to take on the more advanced enemy jet fighters.

Before taking off, Commander Adelstein briefed his air wings about their mission. He emphasized the importance of maintaining formation and the need for caution when approaching the enemy's air defense zones.

"Remember, our primary goal is to gain air superiority. We will face enemy jet fighters capable of launching missiles beyond visual range. Stay alert and use our numerical advantage to overwhelm them. Once we have control of the skies, we will support Commander Dietrich's units by taking out enemy SPAAGs and anti-aircraft positions. Any questions?"

"Sir, how about we defeat the enemy when they launch the missiles beyond our visual range? Our aircraft is outdated, without flares and defense systems from enemy missiles. Even though we launched all thirty-six or three squadrons of Bi-52, we expected significant losses. " One of his wingmen asked him.

Commander Adelstein paused for a moment, acknowledging his wingman's valid concern. The outdated Bi-52 fighters lacked the advanced countermeasures to combat beyond-visual-range (BVR) missiles effectively. He needed to instill confidence while being realistic about the mission's risks.

"You are right. The enemy's BVR capabilities are a serious threat. However, we have tactics to help mitigate this disadvantage. We need to exploit our numerical advantage. We will split into smaller elements and approach multiple vectors, making it harder for them to target us simultaneously. Our primary strategy will be to close the distance rapidly, bringing the engagement to a range where their BVR advantage is minimized. Once we get within visual range, our superior numbers and maneuverability can turn the tide. We know some or most of you will not return, but we will try our best to shoot enemy jet fighters down." Adelstein answers with a steely gaze while looking at his pilots.

Adelstein mapped the engagement plan on a board, drawing the multiple approach vectors and timing for the squadrons.

"The key here is coordination and timing. We will launch in waves, with each wave having a specific role. The first wave will focus on drawing their fire and forcing them to deplete their missile stocks. The second wave will engage them directly once we are within visual range, and the third will provide support and mop up any remaining threats." Adelstein explains about the incoming plan.

He looked around the room, seeing the determination in his pilot's eyes. "This mission will be tough, and losses are inevitable. However, remember, every jet fighter we take down will reduce enemy numbers and hamper their ability to dominate the skies. We have the numbers, the experience, and the will to win this fight. Stick to your training, watch each other's backs, and we will come out on top."

The room was silent momentarily before the pilots, filled with a renewed sense of purpose, responded with a resolute, "Yes, sir!"

With that, Commander Adelstein gave the order to launch. The roar of engines filled the hangar as the twenty-four Bi-52 fighters, nine Bi-38 tactical bombers, and eighteen Bi-37 CAS taxied out and took to the skies, ready to engage the enemy and reclaim air superiority over the Aeterna Border and give close air support to the Commander Dietrich unit.

Copoa Town, Cosorto Region, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 09:00 am

When Maximus prepares and inspects his CLF before advancing, Colonel Ermey informs Maximus about the incoming massive aircraft and grounds unit advancing to Copoa Town.

"Maximus, intelligence reports from drones indicate a significant force. Approximately seventy-five enemy aircraft were launched from the hangars in Pampoi City. We assume thirty-six fighters, nine tactical bombers, and thirty close air support (CAS) aircraft are heading your way. Additionally, ground units consisting of twelve panzers resembling Panzerkampfwagen E-50 and six panzers resembling Panzerkampfwagen E-75 tanks, along with fifty blitz trucks, are advancing from the direction of Noplos City to Copoa Town. I will send Heraclius and his air wings to help you. Estimated arrival time (ETA) in thirty minutes." Colonel Ermey informs Maximus about the incoming enemy aircraft and ground units.

"Thank you for the information, Sir. I will prepare for the incoming enemy aircraft and ground units." Maximus responds to Colonel Ermey information

"Very well. You must prepare for both air and ground engagement. Ensure your anti-air units are in position. Also, ensure your armored unit is ready to engage enemy tanks." Colonel Ermey ordered.

"Yes, Sir. I will order Litorius to strategically deploy Gepards and Bofors cannons to cover our approach routes and key positions. I will order Lucullus to ready Panther II to engage the enemy." Maximus responds.

"Do you need us to launch air strikes with MQ-9 Reaper like the previous battle?" Colonel Ermey provides the launch of an air strike mission with the MQ-9 Reaper.

"Thank you for your kind, Sir. However, let us, the legionnaires, defeat the enemy ourselves, Sir. Modern weapons, vehicles, equipment, and aircraft support is more than enough." Maximus politely refused the offer from Colonel Ermey.

"I see. Well, if you insist. For safety reasons, I will let each 262M of Heraclius air wings carry one Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG air-to-surface missile (ASM). All right, May God give you victory. Godspeed Legatus." Colonel Ermey closed the call.

Because of the sudden information from Colonel Ermey, Maximus calls his commanders again to change the offensive strategy to become a defensive strategy.

"Gentleman. Colonel Ermey informed us that enemy aircraft and ground units were advancing to us. Litorius, ensure the Gepards and Bofors cannons moved into defensive positions. Ensure they are ready to counter the impending air threat." Maximus orders to Litorius.

Litorius acknowledged the command and strategically coordinated Gepards and Bofor cannons to cover enemy aerial threats.

"Valerius, prepare your infantry for rapid deployment. We may need to fortify our positions or counter any ground assault swiftly. Order Flavius and his Sniper Centurion team ready to provide overwatch and target priority threats. Also, machine gun nests should be created strategically to suppress the enemy infantry's incoming." Maximus orders to Valerius.

Valerius acknowledged the command and started coordinating his infantry units, ensuring they were ready to move immediately.

"Lucullus, position your Panther IIs and Puma IFVs to respond to armored threats. Be prepared to support our anti-air units and hold the line against any ground assault." Maximus orders to Lucullus.

Lucullus nodded, directing his armored units into strategic positions to cover potential approach routes and provide fire support.

"Drusus, keep your artillery on standby. We may need to call in fire support to suppress enemy advances or take out key targets." Maximus orders to Drusus.

Drusus saluted, relaying the orders to his artillery units. The PzH 2000s and M777 Howitzers were ready to unleash a barrage at a moment's notice.

"Lucillius, ensure our supply lines are secure. Coordinate with the UT ISIA native agents and make sure we have the necessary logistics support to sustain this engagement." Maximus orders to Lucillius

Lucillius nodded, moving to relay the orders and coordinate with the logistics teams.

As the preparations continued, Maximus gathered his commanders for a final briefing. "We are facing a formidable enemy force, but we have the advantage of preparation and superior technology. We will hold our ground and repel this assault. Remember, our mission is to retake Noplos City. This action is merely a step in that direction. Stay focused, stay coordinated, and we will emerge victorious."

The commanders saluted, their determination evident. Maximus could feel the tension and anticipation in the air, but he also felt the confidence and resolve of his legionnaires. They were ready for the challenge ahead.

Newly Constructed Military Hangar, Aeterna City, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 09:15 am

Heraclius and his air wingmen are ready to board the cockpit of Me 262M. Because of the order of Colonel Ermey, the hangar crews have already loaded upgraded versions of the MBDA Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM) for air battle and Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG air-to-surface missiles (ASM) for ground attack. Four days ago, their previous victory in the aerial battle boosted the morale of Heraclius and his air wingmen.

Heraclius stood at the front of the hangar, facing his pilots with a confident and resolute demeanor. The recent victory bolstered their morale, but the upcoming mission would require every ounce of their skill and bravery. He knew they were up against a formidable enemy, but their training, coordination, and superior tactics would give them an edge.

"All right, listen up! We have a critical mission ahead of us. The enemy is advancing with a significant force of aircraft and ground units. Our primary objective is to gain air superiority and provide close air support for Legatus Maximus and his ground units." Heraclius called out, his voice echoing through the hangar. The pilots, clad in their flight suits and helmets, turned their attention to him.

He paused, ensuring he had their full attention before continuing. "We have been equipped with the latest Meteor BVRAAMs, Storm Shadow ASMs, and 27 mm BK revolver cannon. Our mission is to neutralize the enemy fighters, secure the skies, and provide precise strikes against their ground forces. Remember, our success will directly impact the battle's outcome on the ground."

Heraclius walked over to a tactical map displayed on a large screen, highlighting key points of engagement. "We will launch in three waves. The first wave will consist of our best dogfighters engaging the enemy head-on and drawing their fire. The second wave will focus on clearing any remaining air threats and providing support. The third wave, equipped with Storm Shadows, will target key enemy positions on the ground, including their air defenses and armored units."

He looked around at his pilots, seeing a mix of determination and readiness in their eyes. "Stay in formation, communicate effectively, and trust in your training. We are the tip of the spear. Let us show them what we are made of."

The pilots responded with a unified "Yes, sir!" before heading to their aircraft. The hangar buzzed with activity as ground crews made final checks and preparations. Heraclius climbed into his Me 262M cockpit, strapping in and going through his pre-flight checks. The roar of engines filled the air as the first wave taxied out of the hangar, ready to take off.

As they lifted off and climbed into the sky, Heraclius focused on the mission ahead. The landscape below rapidly changed from the hangar's safety to the battlefield's impending danger. The first wave of Me 262M soared towards the engagement zone, and the second and third wave of Me 262M followed the first wave, ready to face the enemy.

The sky of the Aeterna Region, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 09:30 am

Heraclius and his eleven air wingmen were ready to engage the enemy fighters, bombers, and CAS, so he ordered his wingmen to take caution. Before they enter the Cosorto Region, they launch twenty-four MBDA Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles (BVRAAM) to shoot down enemy aircraft.

"First and second formation, launch twenty-four of your MBDA Meteor missiles. Fox-3!" Heraclius orders air wingmen in the first and second formations to launch their MBDA Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM).

"Affirmative, Praefectus. Fox-3!" All first and second formation pilots respond to launch MBDA Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM).

Twenty-four upgraded MBDA Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM) was launched and flew to the target with the speed of 4 Mach.

The sky of the Cosorto Region, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 09:32 am

Commander Adelstein and his air wingmen had already arrived at the Cosorto Region. However, when they arrived, something small resembled rockets approaching them with magnificent speed. One of the pilots in the front report the incoming missiles to Adelstein.

"Kommandant, die feindlichen Raketen nähern sich uns, sie führen Manöver durch... boom. (Commander, the enemy missiles are approaching us, conducting man... boom.)" The pilot was already sent to Valhalla after an MBDA Meteor missile destroyed his aircraft.

"Alle Einheiten, führt Ausweichmanöver durch. Lasst euch nicht zerstören. (All units, conducting evasion maneuver. Do not let them destroy you.)" Commander Adelstein ordered his air wingmen to conduct evasion manuever.

"Ja, Kommandant.... Boom, boom, boom. (Yes, Commander.... Boom, boom, boom.)" Unfortunately for Adelstein Air wingmen vanguard, MBDA Meteor had already destroyed them.

Thanks to the "no dead zone" of MBDA Meteor, the vanguard fighter of Adelstein air wingmen was successfully destroyed. The "no-escape zone" refers to the area within which a target cannot evade the missile once it is launched. The Meteor has a significantly larger no-escape zone than other missiles, thanks to its sustained speed and energy, which ensures that targets cannot escape once the missile is in flight [3].

Fortunately for Adelstein, he could conduct manuever because he is in the rear. However, the MBDA Meteor missile could change its track and pursue Adelstein again. However, while he tries to conduct another evasion, the intelligent guided system in MBDA Meteor calculates and sets a new trajectory for the future position of Adelstein. While Adelstein tries to invade for the second time, MBDA Meteor missiles fly to Adelstein's next position. Fearing that incoming missiles will hit him, he suddenly clicks the eject button in his cockpit. Fortunately, he was ejected from his Bi-52 fighter and survived, in the worst case, killed by advanced BVRAAM.

Commander Adelstein's heart pounded as he descended toward the ground, his parachute slowing his fall. He scanned the area below, looking for any sign of friendly forces or a safe place to land. As his feet touched down on the rocky terrain of the Cosorto Region, he quickly unbuckled his harness and sought cover behind a nearby outcrop. After safely landing on the ground, Commander Adelstein contacted his remaining wingmen.

"Kommandant, bitte antworten! (Commander, please respond!)" a voice crackled over his earpiece. It was one of his remaining wingmen, Lieutenant Müller.

"Hier Adelstein. Ich bin sicher gelandet. Wie ist Ihre Lage? (This is Adelstein. I have landed safely. What is your situation?)" he responded, his voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through his veins.

"Wir haben Verluste erlitten, aber einige von uns konnten überleben, weil wir aus dem Flugzeug aussteigen konnten. Wir sammeln uns in einem sicheren Gebiet südlich Ihrer Position. (We have suffered losses, but some of us could survive because we could have ejected from the aircraft. We are regrouping in a safe area south of your position.)" Müller reported.

Adelstein took a moment to assess his surroundings. The Cosorto Region was known for its rugged terrain and dense forests, which could provide both cover and challenges. He needed to reach his remaining wingmen and plan their next move.

"Verstanden, ich komme zu Ihnen. Halten Sie Ihre Position und bleiben Sie wachsam. (Understood, I am on my way to you. Hold your position and stay vigilant.)" he ordered, making his way cautiously through the landscape.

As he moved, Adelstein could not help but think about the sophisticated technology of the MBDA Meteor missiles from the enemy that had decimated his fighter squadrons. The enemy's capability to launch such precise and deadly attacks was a stark reminder of their challenges. He needed to find a way to counter this threat and ensure the survival of his remaining forces.

After what felt like an eternity, Adelstein finally reached the rendezvous point. He was relieved to see a few of his wingmen, including Lieutenant Müller, waiting for him. They looked battered but determined. Of the twenty-four pilots, only six, including Adelstein, could eject from the fighter and survive MBDA Meteor missiles. Even though the fighters were shot down by the enemy, Adelstein and his remaining pilots must survive and return to Noplos City.

"Gut, dass Sie es geschafft haben, Kommandant. Was sollen wir als nächstes tun? (Good to see you made it, Commander. What do we do next?)" Müller asked, concern etched on his face.

"Wir müssen unsere Verluste einschätzen und einen neuen Plan entwickeln. Die feindlichen Raketen haben uns hart getroffen, aber wir werden nicht aufgeben. Wir müssen einen Weg finden, diese Bedrohung zu umgehen und uns in die Noplos-Region zurückzuziehen. (We need to assess our losses and come up with a new plan. The enemy missiles hit us hard, but we will not give up. We need to find a way to circumvent this threat and fallback to the Noplos Region.)" Adelstein took a deep breath and addressed his men.

The remaining wingmen nodded in agreement, their resolve strengthening in adversity. Adelstein knew they had a tough road ahead, but with careful planning and determination, they could still achieve their objectives.

Suddenly, Stigler, the Commander of the bombers' unit, communicated and asked about the condition of Adelstein and his survivor pilots. Commander Adelstein took a deep breath before responding to Stigler's inquiry. The situation was dire, but he needed to remain calm and provide clear information.

"Stigler, hier Adelstein. Wir haben schwere Verluste erlitten. Von vierundzwanzig Piloten konnten nur sechs aus ihren Flugzeugen aussteigen und überleben. Die Raketen haben uns schwer getroffen. (Stigler, this is Adelstein. We have suffered heavy losses. Out of twenty-four pilots, only six managed to eject and survive. The missiles hit us hard.)" Adelstein's voice was steady, masking the turmoil within.

"Verdammt, ohne euch sind wir verwundbar. Unsere Bomber und CAS-Einheiten brauchen eure Unterstützung, sonst werden wir leichte Beute für die feindlichen Jäger. (Damn, without you, we are vulnerable. Our bombers and CAS units need your support, or we will be easy prey for enemy fighters.)" Stigler's concern was palpable over the communication line.

Adelstein knew the gravity of the situation. Stigler's bombers and close air support (CAS) units were sitting ducks without fighter escorts. The enemy fighters would have a field day, picking them off individually. Adelstein thought about the best option for Stigler and his units but could not find a solution. Suddenly, Müller reminds Adelstein that their condition is also dire. Before thinking about Stigler and his unit, he suggests that Adelstein decide on the remaining fighter pilots.

Suddenly, Adelstein and his remaining pilots heard the sound of jet fighter engines. This was the worst-case scenario that Adelstein feared would happen: In the sky of the Cosorto Region, Legionnaires jet fighters would engage and shoot down the Stigler bombing unit.

Adelstein felt a cold shiver run down his spine as he heard the distant roar of jet engines. The situation had gone from bad to worse, and now the enemy fighters were bearing down on them. He quickly scanned the area, trying to formulate a plan.

"Kommandant, wir müssen sofort handeln. Die Legionäre sind hier. (Commander, we must act immediately. The Legionnaires are here.)" Müller said urgently, his eyes wide with fear.

Adelstein nodded, his mind racing. He knew staying in their current position would be suicidal because the enemy pilot could detect them and report to their ground unit to capture Adelstein and his survivor pilots. They needed to move, and they needed to move fast.

"Wir haben keine Wahl. Wir müssen uns trennen und versuchen, ihre Aufmerksamkeit zu zerstreuen. Müller, nehmen Sie zwei Männer und gehen Sie nach Westen. Ich werde mit den anderen nach Osten gehen. Wir treffen uns an der geplanten Evakuierungszone. (We have no choice. We need to split up and try to disperse their attention. Müller, take two men and head west. I will take the others east. We will rendezvous at the planned evacuation zone.)" Adelstein ordered.

"Verstanden, Kommandant. Viel Glück. (Understood, Commander. Good luck.)" Müller responded, gathering his men and heading off.

Adelstein watched as Müller and his group disappeared into the dense forest. He turned to his remaining wingmen, determination etched on his face.

"Los geht's. Wir müssen uns beeilen. (Let's go. We need to move quickly.)" he said, leading the way.

The small group moved swiftly through the rugged terrain, using the natural cover to their advantage. The sound of jet engines grew louder, and Adelstein knew they were running out of time. He prayed that Stigler and his air wingmen would make it to safety.

The sky of the Cosorto Region, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 09:40 am

The sky over the Cosorto Region was now eerily silent, the remnants of the initial engagement with BVRAAM fading into the horizon. Heraclius and his wingmen took a moment to assess their surroundings, the wreckage of the enemy Bi-52 fighters still smoldering in the distance.

"Excellent work, everyone. Now, let us move on to the next phase. We must hunt down the enemy tactical bombers and CAS. Form and prepare for engagement. Use your 27 mm BK-27 revolver cannons for precision targeting." Heraclius commended his team.

The formation of legionnaire jets shifted seamlessly, their advanced avionics ensuring they maintained perfect alignment as they approached the new targets. The Bi-38 bombers and Bi-37 CAS aircraft, designed for ground attack and close air support, were formidable in their own right but lacked agility, speed, and advanced technology compared to the legionnaire jet fighters'.

Heraclius scanned the horizon, his eyes narrowing as the enemy bombers and CAS aircraft silhouettes came into view. "All units, weapons hot. Engage at will. Let us clear the sky and provide support for Legatus Maximus." Heraclius orders to his air wingmen.

"Roger that, Praefectus," came the unified response from his wingmen.

As they closed the distance, the legionnaire fighters' advanced radar systems locked onto the Bi-38 bombers. Heraclius could see the enemy aircraft attempting to spread out and evade, but their bulky frames and slower speeds made them easy targets.

"Destroyed enemy aircraft with cannons. We need precision now," Heraclius ordered.

The pilots quickly adjusted, their fingers poised over the triggers of their 27 mm BK-27 revolver cannons. Heraclius lined up a shot, his targeting reticle locking onto a Bi-38. He squeezed the trigger, and the cannon roared to life, sending a stream of 27 mm rounds into the bomber's fuselage. The rounds tore through the aircraft, causing it to disintegrate in mid-air.

"Direct hit! Bomber down," Heraclius confirmed.

His wingmen followed suit, their cannons blazing as they targeted the remaining bombers. Despite their attempts to evade, the Bi-38s were no match for the precision and firepower of the legionnaire jets. One by one, the bombers were obliterated, their wreckage falling from the sky like fiery comets.

Cosorto Region, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 09:50 am

On the ground, Adelstein heard the sound of explosions in the sky. He then tries to contact Stigler about their condition. Commander Adelstein's heart sank as he watched the distant plumes of smoke rising into the sky. The unmistakable sound of jet engines and explosions echoed through the Cosorto Region. He knew that Stigler and his bombers were under heavy attack.

"Stigler, hier Adelstein. Wie ist Ihre Lage? (Stigler, this is Adelstein. What is your situation?)" Adelstein called out, his voice tinged with urgency.

There was a brief crackle of static before Stigler's voice came through, strained and filled with desperation. "Adelstein, wir sind in einem schlimmen Zustand. Die feindlichen Jäger haben bereits einige meiner Bomber abgeschossen. Nur ich und ein kleiner Bomber sind noch in der Luft, weil wir uns zerstreuen konnten. (Adelstein, we are in dire condition. The enemy fighters have already shot down some of my bombers. Only I and a small bomber are still flying because we managed to disperse.)"

Adelstein clenched his fists, frustration boiling within him. He knew that without fighter cover, Stigler and his remaining bombers stood little chance against the advanced enemy jet fighters. His fighter pilots had been decimated in the initial missile attack, leaving him powerless to intervene.

"Bleiben Sie in Bewegung, Stigler. Versuchen Sie, ihre Angriffe zu entkommen. (Keep moving, Stigler. Try to evade their attacks.)" Adelstein urged though he knew it was a nearly impossible task.

Adelstein's mind raced as he listened to Stigler's desperate voice crackling over the radio. His heart pounded in his chest, knowing the grim odds his comrades faced. With their reinforced nanomaterial armor, the Me 262M jet fighters were nearly impervious to the heavy machine guns mounted on the remaining Bi-38 bombers.

In the skies above, the scene was chaotic. The surviving Bi-38 crews were locked in a desperate battle, their machine guns blazing as they attempted to fend off the swift and heavily armored Me 262Ms. The air was thick with smoke and the deafening roar of engines, punctuated by the occasional explosion as another bomber was hit.

On one of the remaining Bi-38s, the gunner, Klaus, was frantically swiveling his turret, trying to get a bead on the approaching jets. His hands were shaking, sweat pouring down his face despite the cold at high altitude. He squeezed the trigger, sending a stream of bullets toward an oncoming Me 262M. The rounds peppered the jet, but the reinforced armor deflected them effortlessly, leaving only superficial damage.

"Verdammt! (Damn it!)" Klaus cursed, his frustration mirroring that of Commander Adelstein on the ground. He knew their heavy machine guns were nearly useless against the advanced enemy jets, but he could not stop trying. The instinct to fight and protect his comrades was too strong.

Another Me 262M swooped in, its 27 mm BK-27 cannons blazing. The Bi-38 shuddered under the impact, smoke trailing from one of its engines. Klaus gritted his teeth and fired again, but it was futile. The jet fighter darted away unscathed.

The pilot, Hans, was struggling to keep the damaged aircraft aloft inside the bomber. He could hear the frantic radio chatter and the explosions all around him. His heart ached for his fallen comrades but could not afford to dwell on it. He had to focus on staying alive, on keeping his plane in the air.

" Halte durch, Klaus. Wir sind fast durch. (Hang on, Klaus. We are almost through this)." Hans shouted over the intercom.

Klaus did not respond. He was too busy trying to fend off another attack. The Me 262M came in low, its cannons lighting the sky. Klaus fired back, but the rounds bounced harmlessly off the jet's armor. The bomber shook violently as the enemy's cannons found their mark.

Hans fought with the controls, trying to keep the Bi-38 steady. He knew their chances of survival were slim, but he refused to give up. He glanced out the window, seeing the distant plumes of smoke rising from the ground from previous fighters shot down by the enemy. He knew Commander Adelstein was watching somewhere on the ground, helpless to intervene.

" Kommandant Stigler, hier ist Hans. Wir stehen unter schwerem Beschuss, aber wir kämpfen weiter. (Commander Stigler, Hans here. We are taking heavy fire, but we are still in the fight,)" Hans radioed in, his voice grim but determined.

"Do your best to evade, Hans. We are trying to regroup, but it is chaos up here." Stigler's response was barely audible over the static.

Hans nodded to himself, determination hardening his resolve. "Roger that, Stigler. We will keep moving."

As the battle raged on, the Bi-38 crews continued their desperate struggle. They knew their chances were slim but fought with everything they had-for Black Shadow, Commander Adelstein, their fallen comrades, and each other. The sky was a storm of fire and steel, but they refused to give up, their spirits unbroken even in the face of overwhelming odds.

Unfortunately, the powerful attack of armor-piercing incendiary (API) rounds from the 27 mm BK-27 cannon penetrated the fuel tank of Hans and Klaus Bi-38 bombers, causing them to burst into flame and explode. Unlike fighter pilots, bomber crews cannot quickly eject from the aircraft bomber. Finally, Hans, Klaus, and all the crew were sent to Valhalla.

After seeing one of the ME 262M jet fighters shoot down one of the Bi-38 bombers, Adelstein could not do anything. He could only curse his fate and could not save his air wingmen. If they could operate Bi-79 jet fighters, they could fight enemy ones. Then, he called Stigler about his condition.

"Stigler, wie ist Ihr Zustand? Ziehen Sie sich zurück. Sie hatten keine Chance gegen die feindlichen Jagdflugzeuge. (Stigler, What is your condition? Retreat and fallback. You did not stand a chance against enemy jet fighters.)" Adelstein finally becomes aware and returns to the reality that they cannot stand a chance against enemy advanced jet fighters.

Finally, he understands Commander Thomsen's feelings during the previous air raid. If the enemy only has 6 six jet fighters, he thought they could fight them by swarming them. Also, he thinks the enemy's BVRAAM system resembles Blitzwind missiles, the Weltenkraft Reich version of the AIM-9 Sidewinder, which ranges between 1 to 35 km. Unknown to him, the MBDA Meteor of ME 262M could launch more than 250 km. Also, the Bi-52 Fighter did not have flares or other countermeasures for the missile attack. They only rely on their agility to evade enemy air attacks. This performance is futile against MBDA Meteor, which has no escape zone 100 km from the target.

Before Stigler could respond, the unmistakable sound of jet fighters strafing filled the air. Adelstein could hear the rapid fire of cannons and the subsequent explosions. His heart pounded as he listened to the desperate cries and chaos on the other end of the line.

"Sie kommen auf mich zu! (They are coming for me!)" Stigler shouted, panic evident in his voice. "Adelstein, es sind zu viele. Wir schaffen es nicht! (Adelstein, there are too many. We cannot make it!)"

The line went silent, and Adelstein knew what that meant. He clenched his jaw, feeling a mix of helplessness and anger. The enemy's overwhelming firepower had claimed yet more of his comrades. He could only imagine the scene in the sky, where Stigler and the remaining bombers were being picked off one by one.

Adelstein's remaining wingmen, seeing the explosions and hearing the distress, shared his frustration. They were all experienced pilots but were reduced to helpless observers without their aircraft.

"Kommandant, wir müssen etwas tun. (Commander, we have to do something.)" one of his wingmen urged, his voice filled with determination.

Adelstein nodded, though he knew their options were limited. "Wir müssen überleben und zurück zur Basis kommen. Das ist unsere einzige Chance. (We need to survive and make it back to base. That is our only chance.)" he said his voice firm.

The small group continued their cautious trek through the rugged terrain of the Cosorto Region, their spirits dampened but their resolve unbroken. Adelstein knew they would find a way to fight back, but survival was their primary goal for now.

As they moved through the dense forest, the distant sounds of battle faded, replaced by the rustling of leaves and birds chirping. The contrast was stark, a reminder of the harsh reality of war and the sacrifices that came with it.

"Wir werden unsere Verluste rächen. Das verspreche ich. (We will avenge our losses. I promise you that.)" Adelstein vowed, his eyes steely with determination. The journey back to the Noplos Region would be long and perilous, but with careful planning and unwavering resolve, they would find a way to overcome the enemy's superior firepower and emerge victorious.

Unknown to them, some UT ISIA native agents already lurk and are ready to fight and capture them.

The sky of the Cosorto Region, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 10:00 am

After shooting down all the Bi-38 bombers, Heraclius and his air wingmen targeted the enemy's remaining CAS aircraft.

"Switching to CAS targets. Engage the enemy CAS." Heraclius instructed as the last of the Bi-38 bombers were destroyed.

The Bi-37 CAS aircraft, designed for close air support, were now within range. Heraclius and his wingmen wasted no time, their cannons locking onto the smaller, more agile targets. The enemy CAS aircraft attempted to maneuver and evade, but the legionnaire jets' superior speed and targeting systems ensured they could not escape.

Heraclius lined up a shot on a Bi-37, his 27 mm cannon rounds shredding the aircraft's wings and sending it spiraling toward the ground. "Another one down. Keep pushing!"

The sky lit up with the flash of explosions as the Bi-37s were systematically taken out. The legionnaire jets weaved through the air, their pilots demonstrating unparalleled skill and coordination as they hunted down the remaining enemy aircraft.

The Bi-37 aircrews, knowing their survival depended on it, tried desperately to evade the incoming jets. They twisted and turned, performing evasive maneuvers to shake off their pursuers. The gunners on the Bi-37s fired their tail machine guns, attempting to fend off the relentless Me 262Ms. However, their smaller caliber rounds were ineffective against the reinforced armor of the enemy jets.

Heraclius locked onto a Bi-37, his targeting system zeroing in with precision. He squeezed the trigger, and the 27 mm cannon rounds tore through the Bi-37's wings, sending it into a fatal spiral. "Another one down. Keep pushing!" he called out, his voice filled with determination.

The sky was a blur as the legionnaire jets weaved through the air, their pilots demonstrating exceptional skill and coordination. The Bi-37s, despite their agility, were systematically hunted down. Flashes of explosion lit up the sky, and the CAS aircraft were destroyed one by one.

On one of the Bi-37s, the tail gunner, Jurgen, was doing everything he could to fend off the attacking jets. His machine gun roared as he fired at an approaching Me 262M, but the rounds bounced harmlessly off the jet's armor. "Scheisse! (Shit!)" Jurgen cursed, realizing the futility of his efforts. The enemy jets were too well-protected.

Grosse, the pilot of the Bi-37, was equally aware of their dire situation. He maneuvered the aircraft as best she could, trying to evade the enemy's targeting systems. " Halte durch, Jurgen. Wir dürfen uns nicht kampflos geschlagen geben. (Hold on, Jurgen. We cannot let them take us down without a fight.)" he called back, his voice steady despite the chaos around them.

Jurgen kept firing, his determination unwavering even as the situation grew more desperate than before. He watched as another Bi-37 was hit, bursting into flames before crashing to the ground. His heart sank, but he kept focused, refusing to give up.

Heraclius and his wingmen pressed their advantage, their jets darting through the air with lethal precision. Heraclius lined up another shot, his cannons blazing as he took down another Bi-37. The enemy CAS aircraft were being systematically wiped out, and their efforts to fight back proved futile against the legionnaire jets' overwhelming firepower and advanced technology.

As the relentless assault continued, the Bi-37 aircrews fought with every ounce of courage and skill they possessed. They knew their situation was grim, but they refused to go down without a fight. Each maneuver, every burst from their machine guns, was a desperate attempt to turn the tide, however futile it seemed against the advanced ME 262Ms.

Heraclius surveyed the battlefield through his HUD, eyes scanning for the next target. His wingmen were performing flawlessly, their coordination and precision leaving no room for error. The sky was a deadly dance of aircraft, tracers, and explosions, each moment bringing another enemy plane closer to its end.

"Focus on the stragglers. We need to clear the skies completely." Heraclius commanded.

One of the ME 262Ms, piloted by Vernus, swooped down on a Bi-37, trying to break away from the formation. The CAS aircraft twisted and turned, and the pilot used every trick in the book to evade the pursuing jet. The tail gunner fired desperately, but the smaller caliber rounds were as ineffective as before, bouncing off the Me 262M's armor.

Vernus's targeting system locked onto the Bi-37. He squeezed the trigger, and the 27 mm cannon rounds tore through the fuselage of the CAS aircraft. Smoke and flames erupted as the plane began to disintegrate. "Scratch another one," Vernus reported, his voice calm and professional.

Grosse, the pilot of another Bi-37, was pushing the limits of his aircraft, trying to evade the persistent attacks. His hands were steady on the controls, but he knew they were running out of options.

"Jurgen, halte sie so lange wie möglich von uns fern. (Jurgen, keep them off us as long as you can.)" he urged, his voice betraying the urgency of their situation.

Jurgen's machine gun roared once more, but the rounds again failed to penetrate the armor of the attacking jets. He felt a surge of frustration but channeled it into his efforts, refusing to relent. "I am doing what I can, Grosse," he replied, his voice strained but determined.

Heraclius lined up another shot, his targeting reticle settling on a Bi-37 struggling to climb. He fired, the cannon rounds shredding the aircraft's tail and sending it spiraling. "Another one down. We are almost there," he called out, encouraging his wingmen to finish the job.

The remaining Bi-37s were few, their attempts to escape growing more desperate with each passing second. Heraclius and his wingmen were relentless, their jets darting through the air with deadly precision. Each enemy aircraft that tried to flee was quickly intercepted and destroyed.

Grosse's Bi-37 was hit. Next, the enemy rounds, ripping through the fuselage and igniting the fuel tanks. The aircraft shuddered violently, and Grosse knew they were finished.

"Spring ab, Jurgen! Raus jetzt! (Bailout, Jurgen! Get out now!)" he shouted, his voice urgent.

However, because the speed of the flame is higher than Jurgen and Grosse's reaction, both are killed in the fiery burst of their Bi-37 CAS.

"Last CAS is attempting to retreat," one of Heraclius' wingmen reported.

"Do not let any escape. Finish the job." Heraclius responded.

The final Bi-37 tried to break away, but Heraclius' wingman quickly closed the gap, his cannon rounds ripping through the enemy aircraft and causing it to explode in a ball of fire.

"All enemy bombers and CAS neutralized," Heraclius announced with satisfaction. "Excellent work, everyone. Regroup and prepare to provide close air support for Legatus Maximus. We need to neutralize the enemy air defenses next."

"Yes, Praefectus," his wingmen responded, their voices filled with determination.

As the legionnaire jets regrouped, Heraclius could not help but feel a sense of pride in his team. They had faced overwhelming odds and emerged victorious. Now, they would turn their attention to the ground forces, ensuring that the legionnaire's forces could advance unimpeded.

"Let us finish this. For the glory of the Fortisregnum Empire. For the glory of Legionnaires!" Heraclius said, his voice steely with resolve.

Cosorto Region, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 11:00 am

On the ground, Adelstein and his remaining pilots try to return to the borders of the Cosorto and Noplos Region and rendezvous with Commander Dietrich. They only carry pistols and SMGs to defend themselves. Carefully, they retreat through the hill and forest path in the Cosorto Region. Unknown to them, one small recon drone flew, monitoring their movement.

Agent I, Agent Z, and Agent C are UT ISIA native agents in the Cosorto Region dispatched by Jhonny Bean to monitor the fighting conditions in the Cosorto Region. Their mission is to hunt down and capture the remaining survivors of the Black Shadow forces. One of their objectives is to capture or kill the remaining survivor pilots during the battle in the Cosorto Region. So, they must be hunting down Adelstein and his survivor pilots.

After Heraclius and his air wingmen fly from the Aeterna Region, Jhonny Bean orders Agent I and her comrade to stand by. The UT ISIA native agents have more advanced weapons and equipment than Maximus legionnaires, so they could operate more efficiently to conduct intelligence, counterintelligence, and hunting missions.

Learning from the success and casualties of previous missions in other regions, Agent I conduct this mission carefully. Even though the threat and risk of this mission are lower than other UT ISIA native agents' missions, she still reminds his team to asses this mission with high awareness.

Agent I became one of the female UT ISIA recruited from free enslaved people, and she is an intelligent and agile woman. Jhonny Bean chose her to become the coordinator of UT ISIA native agents in the Cosorto Region because she knew the terrain and conditions in the Cosorto Region when she became a slave of a noble in the Cosorto Region several years ago. Jhonny Bean allows her to conduct missions without his orders as long as it contributes to UT ISIA.

"All right, gentlemen, Sir Bean ordered us to stand by. However, as the radar and drone detection, enemy pilots survived the engagement. We need to search and hunt them. If possible, we must capture them alive to obtain valuable information. If not, you could be free to kill them. Agent Z, how many the enemy survivors?" Agent I ordered Agent Z and Agent C.

"Based on the recon drone, there are six survivors." Agent Z responds.

"I see. I assume they will retreat to the Cosorto and Noplos Region border. Where is their current location?" Agent I asked again.

"One minute... Based on their trajectory path, they will go through the Poscoralo Town to the Noplos Region." Agent C responds.

"All right, we will intercept them before they enter the border. Let us go hunting the enemy." Agent I order.

Agent I, Agent C, and Agent Z then prepared their SIG MCX rifles and SIG P229 pistols, including silencers. Then, they mounted their motorcycles, ready to intercept and engage Adelstein and his survivor pilots.

As Agent I, Agent Z, and Agent C rode their motorcycles through the dense forest paths of the Cosorto Region, the hum of their engines was muted by the forest's natural sounds. The trio maintained radio silence, communicating only through hand signals and pre-arranged gestures to ensure their stealthy approach.

Agent I led the way, her knowledge of the terrain guiding them through shortcuts and less-traveled paths that would allow them to intercept Adelstein and his men. Her mind raced with strategic considerations: they needed to approach without alerting the enemy, use the element of surprise, and capture as many of the survivors as possible.

Cosorto and Noplos Region border, 19 April 2141 / 19 Aprilis 1841, 11:30 am

After about half an hour of maneuvering through the forest, Agent I signaled for a stop. They dismounted their motorcycles and secured them behind a dense thicket. She motioned for her comrades to gather and pulled out a small digital map from her gear. Thanks to advanced equipment and vehicles from the United Terran, they could create a plan to ambush the enemy.

"Poscoralo Town is about three clicks south from here," she whispered, pointing to a spot on the map.

"We will set up an ambush along this narrow pass where they will likely travel. Agent Z, you take the high ground here," she said, pointing to a ridge overlooking the path. Agent C and I will flank from the sides."

Agent Z nodded and quickly moved to his position, remaining out of sight. Meanwhile, Agent I and Agent C made their way to the flanking positions, moving swiftly but silently through the underbrush. They reached their designated spots and took cover behind large rocks and thick trees, their weapons ready.

From her vantage point, Agent I could see the path. She adjusted the scope of her SIG MCX rifle, scanning the area for any signs of movement. The minutes ticked by, each one feeling more extended than the last. Her heart pounded in her chest, but she maintained calm, focusing on the mission.

Suddenly, a rustle of leaves and footsteps broke the silence. Agent I peered through her scope and spotted the first of the survivors. Adelstein was at the front, leading his men cautiously down the path. They moved slowly, scanning their surroundings for any signs of danger, their pistols and SMGs ready.

Agent I waited until all six survivors were within the kill zone. She gave a quick hand signal to Agent Z, who responded with a slight nod. They waited for the perfect moment, allowing the survivors to walk into their trap.

When Adelstein and his men were directly in front of them, Agent I whispered into her comms, "Now."

Agent Z opened fire first, his shots precise and controlled. The initial burst took out one of the survivors, causing the others to dive for cover. Agent I and Agent C emerged from their positions, their rifles trained on the remaining pilots.

As the ambush unfolded, the forest erupted with the sound of gunfire. Agent Z's elevated position gave him a clear line of sight, allowing him to pick off another survivor with lethal accuracy. Adelstein and his men caught off guard, scrambled for cover behind the sparse trees and rocks along the path.

Agent I, maintaining her composure, focused on Adelstein. Her finger tightened on the trigger of her SIG MCX, and with a calm exhale, she fired. The bullet struck Adelstein's arm, causing him to drop his SMG. He grunted in pain but managed to dive behind a large boulder, clutching his wound.

Agent C moved swiftly, flanking the remaining survivors. His SIG MCX rifle, equipped with a silencer, allowed him to take out another pilot with a clean headshot, the body crumpling silently to the ground. Realizing the dire situation, the remaining three survivors attempted to mount a desperate counterattack.

Adelstein, gritting his teeth against the pain, pulled out his pistol and fired wildly in the direction of Agent I. She ducked behind a tree, the bullets whizzing past harmlessly. Agent Z continued to provide covering fire from above, forcing the remaining survivors to stay pinned down.

Agent I used the brief lull to reassess the situation. "Agent C, cover me," she whispered into her comms. Without waiting for a response, she sprinted towards Adelstein's position, her rifle ready. Agent C laid down suppressive fire, keeping the survivors occupied and unable to focus on Agent I, who was in advance.

Realizing Agent I was approaching, Adelstein aimed his pistol with his good arm and fired again. The shots were less wild but still missed their mark as Agent I zigzagged through the forest, closing the distance. She reached the boulder and, with a swift movement, kicked Adelstein's pistol out of his hand.

"Stay down!" she ordered, her assault rifle trained on him. Adelstein, wounded and out of options, raised his hands in surrender. Agent I quickly secured his wrists with zip ties and turned her attention back to the remaining pilots.

Agent Z and Agent C efficiently neutralized the last two survivors, leaving the forest indefinitely silent. Agent C approached Agent I, his eyes scanning the surroundings for additional threats.

"Good work," Agent I said, her voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through her veins. "We have one alive. Let us get him back for questioning."

Agent Z descended from his vantage point, joining his comrades. Together, they retrieved their motorcycles and secured Adelstein onto one, ensuring he could not escape.

Agent I felt accomplished as they rode back through the forest. The mission had been successful, and they had captured a valuable target. She knew the information Adelstein could provide would be crucial for their operations in the Cosorto Region.

Upon reaching their base, they handed Adelstein over to the intelligence officers for interrogation. Agent I, Agent Z, and Agent C debriefed Jhonny Bean, detailing their successful ambush and the capture of the enemy pilot.

"Excellent work," Jhonny Bean said, a rare smile crossing his face. "This information could turn the tide in our favor. Prepare for the next phase of operations. Your efforts are invaluable to UT ISIA, Fortisregnum Empire, and the progress of this civil war."

Agent I nodded, her mind already shifting to the next mission. She knew the fight in the Cosorto Region was far from over, but with each successful operation, they inched closer to their ultimate goal.

The battle of Maximus and Commander Dietrich will begin.
