Seimu Eiji frantically tapped his mobile phone during lunch break. It was a special app he found that changed his life. It was a fictional digital simulation of real life. Think of like an rpg. When he first downloaded the app by accident, he was randomly given an avatar. That avatar was of a sumo wrestler. After receiving the sumo wrestler, he was to control him and explore the digital world full of monsters. There was no plot or story, just an open world filled with hostile monsters. He fought the monsters and it didn’t take long for him to be surrounded and receive a game over.
The funny thing was... Eiji suddenly received the knowledge, experience, and body of a sumo wrestler after his character died! As time went on, Eiji realized he could receive more things from this digital world as his character progressed through the game. He could level up and any points he put into a stat would also affect him in real life. Sometimes these monsters would drop items that could be brought into the real world after he died but the drop rate was so damn low, Eiji considered it a miracle basically. The one time he received a dropped item, it was an awakening potion.
Awakening potions were basically legendary items that only the 1% could afford if one was on sale. They could awaken anyone’s Astral Spirit to a certain degree. Seimu Eiji had the F-rank astral spirit, Slimy Snail. A useless species of snail that was only known for their slime. After downing a portion of the potion, it evolved into the C-rank Sweating Snail. An even more slimy snail with a penchant for choking the prey that eats it with slime in its throat and then climbing back out without harm.
“You there, Eiji? I think you died, buddy.” Gen tapped Eiji’s arm.
“What’s up?” Eiji shoved his phone into his pocket.
The app only worked once every 24 hours. If he died, his try for the day was over. While Eiji would love to play non-stop throughout the day, he wasn’t foolish enough to whine about it. He had a lot of days left in his life and was already fortunate enough to stumble upon the app in the first place. His entire life has changed because of the app, he’s going to reap as many benefits as he can while he still has it.
“I found those guys you wanted me to find out about. Apparently, the delinquents have this huge system going on throughout the school. First years take control over the first years. Second years do the same for their year and it works the same for third and fourth years. So, if you provoke one, you’ll basically catch the attention of all of them if you fight enough of them.” Gen informed.
“So, if I go fight that guy, I'm pretty much set?” Eiji pointed to the delinquent in the back ordering one of the frail-looking kids to go fetch him something with his own money.
“That’s right but are you sure about this? I know you’re big and all but some of the class bosses are distinguished Astralists. Can you handle them?” Gen asked in concern.
“Don’t worry about me. Even if I lose, I'll come back stronger another day. Besides, everyone knows bullying is wrong but everyone is too scared to do anything about it. Why not me? Might as well put this big body to use.” Eiji chuckled.
“There’s more to this than just being strong!” Gen tried to change his friend’s mind.
“No, there isn’t.” Eiji looked Gen dead in the eye.
The rule of society was the strongest is king. If Eiji was the king and says bullying is wrong, it is wrong. If Eiji kicks the ass of someone who disagrees with him, bullying is wrong. If Eiji loses, then his ideals don’t matter at all. It’s how the world worked from beginning to end.
“F-Fine! Don’t regret this after I break my back trying to carry you to the hospital!”
“Thank you. If that happens, you can brag and gloat about how right you were and I'll admit it. Now, come help me with these notes. School is for studying after all and I don’t get how the hell to do these tri-functions or whatever.” Eiji smiled.
“Trigonometric!” Gen corrected him. “Don’t worry I know the perfect trick for remembering stuff like this.”
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Eiji and Gen’s study time was interrupted by a loud student yelling at the side of Eiji’s desk.
“I heard a funny little rumor, fatass. Apparently, you’re going to kick my ass and teach me how I should act. Is that true?” Gaku smiled.
“I guess now is a good time as any.” Eiji stood up from his desk and looked down on Gaku.
“You think all that fat is going to save you from my blows?!” Gaku felt slightly intimidated at the size of the fatass and hated that look in his eyes.
Gaku threw a punch right in the fatass’s big stomach only to realize he was off his feet somehow and the ground was getting scarily closer. Then everything went dark for some reason. The class was stunned speechless after seeing Eiji slap Gaku across the face. Eiji locked eyes on the two monkeys that hung around Gaku participating in his bullying of their classmates.
“You fatass!” The two ran toward Eiji with their fists raised.
“Don’t think that just because you took Gaku by surprise we’ll be scared of you!”
Eiji didn’t spare them any care either. The both of them went down with a loud smack that even those in the hallway could hear. However, Eiji held back on one of them. Having all three of them unconscious would be inconvenient. How would he explain himself when the teacher came back?
“Take those two to the infirmary. I’ll talk to you three about your behavior the next time I see you.” Eiji told the only delinquent still conscious.
Out of everyone in the room, Gen was probably the one that looked the most shocked. Eiji sat back down in his seat as the delinquents left the classroom. After a moment, Eiji couldn’t help but let out a boisterous chuckle after looking at Gen’s still shocked face.
“Did you think this beautiful body was just for show?” He smacked his stomach, causing it to jiggle.
“I guess you’re not as crazy as I thought you were...” Gen replied.
“Believe in me a little. I got a surprise for you after school as thanks for going along with me on this crazy journey.”
“What is it?”
“It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you, dumb dumb.”
“Who has the better grades, you or me?”
“Who has common sense, you or me?”
“You’re fighting delinquents!”
“I’m protecting the weak and innocent!”
“Don’t try to twist this into some act of justice!”
“I calls it what I sees it.”
“You’re so shameless, dude.”
Once school was let out, information about Eiji defeating Class A’s boss spread amongst the other bosses. The other class bosses discussed happily as they found a new source of gossip to talk about. Most were interested in who the hell Seimu was. Others were happily making fun of the defeated Gaku.
Eiji on the other hand was walking home with Gen. Eiji handed him a portion of the awakening potion inside an empty water bottle. He warned him to only drink it once he made it home and Gen was getting scared it was some elaborate prank to embarrass him.
“It’s not a prank but something really really good.”
“Ahuh... Any reason why it looks like poison?” Gen shook the dark green liquid.
“I didn’t make it. Ask the manufacturers.”
“Well besides this prank you're going to pull on me in the comfort of my own home, did you learn some martial arts or something?” Gen still couldn’t get his mind off how Eiji one-shot those delinquents.
“I guess you can say that.” Eiji scratched his chin.
“What is it? Wrestling? MMA? Judo?” Gen tried to accommodate for Eiji huge size.
“Sumo.” Eiji revealed.
“Sumo!?” It was too fitting!
“Sumo.” Eiji nodded.
“When did you?! How did you?! Is this how you got so big over the summer?! You were practicing sumo after graduation!?” It all makes sense now! How else could a guy that was just as skinny as him turn into a growing giant?!
“You finally figured it out.” Eiji decided to humor him.
Eiji truly had no way of explaining his body change to his parents. It happened over night and without warning. They even sent him to the hospital to try and figure out what was wrong with him, but the doctors could detect nothing. There were no changes in his spirit energy, organs, or anywhere else. It was as if he was always big fatty. Eiji supposed it didn’t help that the only thing he put his points in when he leveled up was strength and constitution. There were four stats total: Strength, speed, constitution, and spirit energy.
“Why did you always avoid answering me when I asked what happened to you!?”
“I wanted to keep it a secret. Now I don’t care as much.”
“...” Gen felt satisfied and dissatisfied at the same time. “You aren’t challenging delinquents to further your sumo into the perfect sumo, are you?”
“You really are the smartest person I know.” Eiji sighed as his secret was casually revealed by his best friend.
“You’re freaking insane!!!”
