“Just my luck... To be reincarnated into a noble who’s going through an assassination attempt from a member of her family.” Anna sighed.
She sat in the very comfortable chair inside her luxurious room with a flintlock pistol held in her hand. Anna held up the pistol while the assassin was trying to break into her door. It was honestly a big surprise to her once she realized this world had access to guns, magic, knights, nobles, and monsters! Usually in these types of settings, they limit it to the medieval era with only cold weapons and bows. Crossbows were included in the category of bows as well.
“I guess I'm not too unlucky.” She got up and held up her pistol to the door on the verge of breaking.
It was a pain trying to remember her old name but she was now Anna Brom. The daughter of Afton Brom and Esabel Brom. Two parents who used to show her much love when she was younger but now regarded her as nothing but a disappointment to the Brom name when she failed to show any talent in anything. Swordmanship, magic, business, politics, and more. They swiftly sent her out to the Dead Man’s Land to rule over some territory they owned just to make fun of her when she fails and asks to return home.
‘Kind of heartless and cruel to abandon your daughter just because she’s kind of useless.’ She thought.
After looking in the mirror, she also realized that this Anna Brom wasn’t all that much of a pretty face either. Just an ordinarily plain looking girl with glasses. Which might’ve added to the parent’s disappointment of her when they were both very beautiful people. Like supermodel levels of attractiveness. Her brothers were no different from their parents. There were already rumors of her being adopted just because of how differently she looks. Perhaps now they can hope to ignore her existence even more now that she’s out here.
“Lady Anna! Don’t make this even more fun for me.” The door broke open and the sight of her single assassin revealed himself.
“You’re the person who’s supposed to kill me...?” Anna’s eyebrows twitched in agitation.
It was some common thug! Some large burly guy in some laborer’s clothes that wasn’t even holding a weapon. Just cracking his knuckles as he slowly walked towards her with a malicious smile on his face. Anna had a hard time trying to process the situation and insane it actually was. Whichever one of her brothers that thought this was enough to kill her must mean that the old Anna was seriously inept or one of her brothers were. Or maybe, this wasn’t from one of them at all... Could it be that the people she’s supposed to be lording over want her dead? She just got here!
“You’re kidding, right?” Anna asked.
Inheriting the old Anna’s memory wasn’t the only gift she gained in this new life. This second gift was kind of embarrassing to use for a girl but it was certainly better than nothing. Anna’s tongue suddenly grew to incredible lengths and wrapped around the throat of her ‘assassin.’ His body was held up off the ground as he was being choked with a wide-eye look in his eyes. There wasn’t any mercy inside Anna’s body to spare for this man who obviously had no issues with murdering a 17-year-old girl.
“What a god damn ridiculous start to a new life...” Anna sighed as she pulled the trigger.
The round shot of the pistol exploded through the thug’s head. Blood and pieces of brain fell onto her tongue which immediately grossed her out. She shut off her tongue’s taste buds and brought her tongue back into her mouth. His body fell to the ground and immediately started bleeding all over her floor. Many questions entered inside her head after killing the man. None of which were about how easily she was able to pull the trigger or how she was handling the aftermath.
“How the hell did this piece of shit even get in here?” She asked to herself.
Anna got up from her chair and immediately left her room to see the stares of multiple maids, no knights, and no signs of her aide anywhere. She glared at the maids. But not for the reason they’d expected. It would be crazy to expect them to stop the guy on her behalf.

“Where is Alvin!?” Anna shouted.
All the maids frighteningly pointed out the door.
“And the knights?” She added.
They pointed in the same direction. It looks like this girl left her a lot of work to do if she wants to get this small town under control. And her first step to improvement was fixing up these useless knights. Or getting rid of them just like a certain thug bleeding out on her floor.
Anna burst outside the front door to see a smug piece of crap standing with a bunch of other smug pieces of crap blocking Alvin from entering inside. In her mind, this immediately meant that all of the knights were accomplices to the assassin. She wasn’t 100% certain about this but that was what her gut feeling was telling her. Giving her half a mind to blow the Head Knight’s head off while he wasn’t looking.
“Stewart! What in the hell is going on here?” Anna demanded.
“Lady Anna?!” He practically screamed at the sight of her.
As if she was supposed to be taken care of already or something.
“You and your men are dishonorably discharged. I don’t want to see any of your faces in this town again or you will be imprisoned for life.” She really wanted to murder them all but that wouldn’t be good for appearances sake. Hopefully they’ll give her a convincing reason to kill them that can also make herself look good at the same time in the eyes of the public.
“For what reason, may I ask?” He had the nerve to question.
“Do you really want to test my patience after nearly getting me killed?” Anna whispered. Her gun was reloaded and ready to fire.
They looked into each other’s eyes. Stewart was briefly frightened at the coldness behind those eyes. It didn’t resemble Lady Anna’s in the slightest! Lady Anna lacked any courage or backbone. Even a mouse would have more courage than Lady Anna. But now, he wasn’t sure who exactly this was... That gun she was holding behind her back. Could she even pull the trigger? Is that why the town thug they sent in failed?
“You must be tired. Let us go back in and rest Lady Anna.” He reached out with his hand towards her.
She immediately lashed out with her tongue, wrapping her spectacular tongue around his throat. His hands went to tear her tongue off but even with his strength as the Head Knight, it wasn’t enough. The knights unsheathed their swords and raised it towards her. Anna pulled out her gun and aimed it towards them.
“You all want to rebel against me as well? Brandishing a sword in front of a noble who employed you? A simple banishment won’t be the least of your worries now.” She threatened.
Sweat trickled down the knight’s foreheads. They knew exactly what the punishment was for going against a noble not labeled as a criminal by the Capital. But seeing their leader in such a helpless and vulnerable opinion, it made their heart waver. What kind of knights could they call themselves if they couldn’t even back up the man that spent years taking care of them? Their honor as knights won over their fear of death. They charged the maiden.
“Tch. Suicidal nutjobs.” Anna threw Stewart at the incoming knights and as he was flying through the air shot him in the stomach.
“Lady Anna!?” Alvin shouted in confusion.
“Get inside!” Anna shoved the frail servant inside the mansion and followed in after him.
She closed the door behind them and locked it. Taking the time to reload, the gunslinger aimed her flintlock at the door. The maids looked at them in shock and silence. Seconds went by without and sounds from outside the door. It shouldn’t have taken them this long to reach the door. They must have fled after she threw Stewart.
“Alvin! There’s a lot of work we got to do in these next few days.” Anna shouted.
“Yes! My Lady!?” Alvin was terribly confused by Lady Anna’s sudden personality shift.
“Who else besides you can read in this place?” She suddenly asked.
“Uh, I'm sure there’s a few maids that probably can but I'll have to check.” He answered.
“Gather all the people working here. It's about time that I finally started acting like the ruler I was sent here to be.” She spoke. Even though she was probably sent here to be killed without a single investigation.
“Yes Ma’am!” Alvin couldn’t be happier hearing such words.
When his lady first arrived here, she was depressed and did nothing but hole herself up in her room and cry. Alvin didn’t understand what made his lady have such a drastic change in her temperament but felt that it was nothing but good! He tried everything to bring his lady out from her slump when they came here but nothing worked. Seeing that she was better, he planned on doing everything she needed him to do. If that would make her happy, he’d do anything!
