Chapter 52 Month in the city

Chapter 52 Month in the city

I teach Sock 3 more classes. He's going to be a tank like Gobber from now on. I taught him knight, druid and monk to couple with his warrior class. While it will make him weaker to start than other high defense classes. Once leveled, having a shape shifting wolf bear throwing out chi waves seems strong. I wonder if you added the change appearance to a set of armor if you could move it around to form armor in different animal forms? It would also be nice to have another person who can do semi big chi waves when I need them. I have to save mine for crucial moments. Once done, Sock said.

“I've gained a secret skill wolf form… Would you like to learn it master?”

And so I learned a new skill from Sock, very glad I taught him that now.

Secret Druid skill Wolf form- change into a wolf, increase to critical strike chance and dodge while in this form

For my hand I'll try numbing it with poison before I cast regrowth on myself. As long as the poison lasts long enough I shouldn't feel any of the pain. I can't use my own poison because I'm immune to it. I buy the items I need and make a very strong numbing poison. Injecting it into my shoulder where my stump started my whole body almost goes numb. Now or never I guess.

Casting regrowth I can see my hand slowly regenerating flesh and bones. The stump that was there is now bloody from the new skin forming. This is going to take days… I don't think I have enough poison to last through this whole thing… Druid's poison resistance activated!

Blue mage skill strength increased Poison spit- Can now spit either weak or strong numbing poison

Shit! I FEEL PAIN!!! OH DAMMIT! The pain is so intense! It's like my hand being torn off over and over again! NO way I can remain sane through this! What do I do!? Dispel! It didn't work, it wouldn't work on friendly spells. Ahh the pain! I pull out my heirloom sword! It's now the size of a short sword from leveling! I cut off my freshly regrown skin off my arm… I can't use this method to regain my limbs…

Covered in sweat, people have entered the room in the castle I was staying at. In front of them was a man with a part of his own body chopped off in front of them. Some ran out of the room screaming… I guess this method won't work for me, it will work for everyone else though with lost limbs… So besides the horrific pain, I guess this was a success.

New skill gained Ambidextrous- Can now use both hands to a similar ability

I spend the rest of the day working out the system I will use as the sewer system… This city is built on a hill. Using gravity to get rid of the sewage from the city would be the easiest way. The next day I head to the slums to acquire some workers. I pick out about two dozen citizens after questioning them about their classes and jobs. I found out they had an open slot in each.

I could teach a third class and fourth job to people. I don't think they'd appreciate being given a new job as someone of a low reincarnation though. It will also keep something about myself a secret. Like the king said, he already knew parts about me because of spies. So the opposite could be the same with spies from other countries trying to find out information about me.

I teach the two dozen workers nature magic and the farmer job. They're all surprised and happy about the changes. Some begin to weep from their new lot in life. We get to work on tearing a two foot wide by three foot deep hole in the bricks that line the street at the very top of the upper quarter. We work it all the way down into the lower quarters and it is getting too late to do anything else tonight so we call it a day. To keep the new recruits from running off I have them escorted to an inn in the slums. I need all their help so we can't have any run away yet.

The next day after waking up we finish making the hole all the way out of the city. I go back and round the hole out more with everyone else helping with nature magic. Soon enough the hole is completely smooth, so nothing will snag while it makes it's way out of the city. I cover back over the surface with a thin layer of bricks all the way back down into the slums. Since the slums is comprised of dirt with nothing to overlay I used control nature to cover the hole over with reinforced dirt and rocks found while digging. It should be strong enough to ride a carriage over without it breaking.

Now all that's left is to tell the city planner to have the servants of the upper and middle quarters, who would normally take the buckets of sewage down into the lower quarters. To deposit them directly into the few openings I left in the pipes. Instead of carrying them down into the lower quarter to toss into the streets.

While this seems silly, like it wouldn't make much of a difference. With the sewage flowing out of the city less people will die to diseases caused by the sewage. What seems like a small thing now will save hundreds of lives within the next few years… Hundreds of potential troops in the upcoming war.

The castle being in the middle of the city will be the only building with working pluming. It will be an added bonus to the king for letting me upgrade the city. Also it wouldn't be bad to have the king indebted to me so thoroughly. It would be far too hard and take too long to link all the upper and middle quarters to the sewage lines. They can just have their maids or themselves deposit it into the pipes directly. I'll have to task someone to take several buckets of water everyday to the top and flush the pipes. Maybe the city planner can hire someone for the new task?

We do the same thing over the next two days with the opposite side of the city. The city forms a ring around the capital, so having only one side with a sewage line wouldn't be enough. Now with the sewage problem for the royal, upper and middle quarters out of the way we can work on the food problem. The sewage is all leading into collectors that can be used as fertilizer for the crops. Splitting the two dozen nature mages up into 2 separate teams. Each at a side of the city to care for the crops should help with the food problem of the city.

While it's fine to have food delivered to the city. If the city is under attack the first thing the potential war party is going to do is cut off the food lines running to the city. This will also allow more money to be spent elsewhere than on food being delivered. I'll leave the nature mage farmers to their new jobs. They should be able to easily provide for their families now and might even be upgraded to middle class. The city will need to build protection around the food sources but it wouldn't be hard since they have around three years to do it.

Kline's point of view

Life was very boring until I met Kite. I thought my life was over. If I had run from the basilisk my fatigue would have eventually drained and it would have eaten me. Kite blew it in half with a single strike… I was fearful of what happened. Almost going insane from the fact that a person… A young boy! Could kill a rare by himself… With a single attack was impossible. I finally realized he must have been a demigod. That was the only thing that could explain such a strong attack. Demigods are the only things stronger than raid bosses.

Today Kite made it to the city. He spoke with the king and after asking for troops. He also asked to fix up the city. I assume it will take a very long time to fix. If Kite plans on waging a war against the pirates, shouldn't he be more focused on that? Well I'll spy on him for now. I doubt he's plotting something nefarious.

A few days after the meeting he headed into the lower quarter. I was out of sight from him but from what I could see. He talked to about two dozen people then they all started crying and yelling… What did he do? I managed to pull one of them aside afterwords and learned he taught them all the nature mage class and farmer jobs. WHAT!? IN ONE DAY!? As expected of a demigod. Not only that but he also vandalized the upper and middle quarters? I'll have to see what he is doing tomorrow.

The next day he finished what he was making. Running all the way out of the city is a hole to dump sewage into. What I thought would take months if not years to make, he did in two days… It's so simplistic of an idea its ridiculous no one has put it into play yet.

The next two days were the same thing except on the exact opposite side of the city. He then left the nature mages to care over the farms he set-up. No asking for help later on or asking for money or anything... He did this for the sole purpose of improving the city. He had no ill intentions towards us. This simple design will save us lives and money very quickly. I'm amazed every time I see him do something, it's surprising.

The next day he went and gathered another 2 dozen people. This time I was close enough to hear what he was talking about. He was explaining woodworking to the two dozen people. I couldn't hear him completely talk only a few words here and there. After a short time the crowd cried out in happiness like the one before it.

What!? He was teaching with such an easy amount of knowledge, yet they were learning jobs. He taught them construction as well. I moved in close enough to hear the entire conversation and picked up the job. Through no means was what he explained difficult, he almost explained no new information to me. I knew almost everything he explained but still gained the construction job… Which isn't good because that was my last job slot…

He spent the next few days gathering wood, I wonder what he's going to do with it. After he gathered up enough wood too make a few houses he headed off into the lower quarters again. His new entourage of woodworkers following behind with as much wood as they could carry on carts.

They already cut it into planks to make a building out of it. After watching them shortly I still didn't know what they were making. They finish the frame of the building and I wait for them to leave. I still can't tell what this building is… It has weird pot like things sitting in the room. I can't figure it out so I'll have to wait until it's finished.

The next day they quickly finished the building, I hadn't noticed before but it ran on the sewage line he recently put in. When I entered the building I still didn't understand what it was. One of the construction workers was still hear and he explained to me that you could sit on these pots and it would deposit the excrement into the sewage pipe. This would help keep the lower quarters from dumping their sewage directly into the streets like normal.

Over the next week he built another three of these buildings. Another one on top of the other sewage line. Then two more, making their own sewage lines while they were being built. With the lower quarters population outnumbering both the upper and middle quarters put together. I guess they would need their own sewer lines.

All this for cleaning the cities… I don't understand. While it would take a long time for this practice to catch on. With his start the city will need to add in more toilet buildings eventually but having a start will reduce disease related deaths in the city. He then let the workers go. Not asking for any extra compensation for teaching them then the work they did.

The next day he set up a table in the slums and yelled out he could heal people with unhealable injuries. As unbelievable as it was soon enough a small line formed. Until he healed someone with a broken leg. Then the line got bigger… Then bigger still. After treating around one hundred people, drinking four mana potions altogether. He said he was out of mana and fatigue and that was all he could do that day. When he treated people with lost limbs he handed them 5 vials of purple liquid… I wonder what that was for?

The next day he did the same thing on the opposite side of the lower quarter. He managed to heal twice as many people this time. He brought far more mana potions… Doesn't he know that could destroy his mana regen by drinking those? Maybe it's different from demigods. He repeated this process a few more days in different parts of the lower quarters. Together healing almost everyone he possibly could. It totaled around 1000 people he helped… He has to be a demigod to pull that off…

He hasn't even been here a month, yet the site of the city is completely different. The slums is already much cleaner. The smell that was stuck in the lower quarters from the sewage is now almost gone. When he healed someone he would tell them to clean for one hour moving sewage out of the town as payment. Doing this for so long he acquired almost one thousand hours of work cleaning in just a few days. Even if ten percent of the people did clean for an hour it was still enough to make the lower quarter much more respectable. Thinking about it a thousand people are now potential soldiers in the war because of him.

The second to the last day he was here he spent walking through the city. He must have been inspecting all the changes he made. The citizens would just give him things for free as he was walking. A few bakers gave him bread. Some alchemists gave him potions. Visiting the blacksmith then leaving I heard the blacksmith's cries of happiness. He finally stopped at the enchanters hut. I moved in close to the door to try and eavesdrop but couldn't hear anything. After a short visit he left. I went in to see the enchanter crying… What did he do this time? After asking I found out that he had taught him two entire rare trees for two rare pieces of equipment.

The day he was leaving he asked for a handful of guards for protection. I volunteered of course, wanting to keep an eye on this person… I see him doing great things in the future and I'm willing to risk my life to watch him. I would even betray my kingdom to see what he becomes.

Kite's point of view

I finished up my business with the capital. With the changes I made it should help them compete with the other region when the time comes. If it comes down to it. I'll teach them all extra classes to help us win. I'd like to avoid that though. I asked for the demon race members to be sent to Shienta. They'll arrive a few weeks after I do. It would be nice to sprint back to Shienta quickly but I don't want to risk dieing now that most of my trump cards are used up. I need to rebuild my chi again.

I asked for a few escorts to take me back and to my surprise Kline was with them. Was it the king's order for him to spy on me? That seems most likely. I'll have to be more secretive around him from now on. I caught him following me in the city a few times but there was nothing I could do. I can't just walk up to him and say. “Hey stop following me.” He was probably following me under the kings orders.

Before we head back I deconstruct the elemental ring I traded the enchanter for. It was an enchanting tree I needed badly.

Elemental tree learned

Enchant weapon boosted elemental strength learned

Enchant ring elemental magic boost learned

Enchant gloves boosted elemental control learned

Enchant water unending water source learned

Enchant fire unending fire source learned

I'll put a bucket at the top off the sewage pipes and enchant them with never ending water source. I head back to the enchanters hut and make him a table to enchant 8 pieces of paper at once. He even gave me the gold I needed to make it.

When he sees what I was doing he was trembling from how much faster he could make rares with this. I tell him it's his once I'm finished here. He cries again... This whole city is filled with crybabies. It takes two days for me to finish the rare bucket enchants but it's done. That way even if only a slight trickle of water is formed running down it might help keep the sewer lines clean.

We head out and make it back to Shienta with no problems. Kline is staying with me… He is obviously a spy any way you look at it now. My destroyed hand is about halfway through recovering from my month away from Shienta. Ogre regeneration is extremely helpful… Regrowth would have been faster but from what I got out of it, it is worth not having a hand for another month or 2.
