“It's a basilisk!”
One of the guards cries out. A BASILISK! That's a world traveling raid boss! We can't possibly beat it. It's a giant lizard right below a dragon! It spews toxic breath that can cause a few negative statuses. It has the ability if you stare into its eyes for too long to become paralyzed. Even with a group twice our size with a better group composition then ours.We still might not kill it. We only have six people who can actually fight and my two pets. Gem isn't strong in combat.
The basilisk is slow moving once it's fully grown, this one seems to be smaller than normal. I still don't think we could beat it with a raid group. The group isn't retreating though! They seriously think we can beat a raid boss with six people!? I use feral roar as a speed increase then yell.
“The basilisk is a raid boss! We can't fight it, run!”
One of the guards speaks up.
“We won't make it! This one is too much faster than normal!”
He barely finishes his sentence before he's chomped in half by the basilisk. Eating the top part of him while his legs fall to the ground. What the hell! I could easily make it away from this basilisk but no one else would survive… Should I run!? As a last resort I will. The two surviving knights move to the sides to try and avoid its paralyzing stare and status breath.
Sock runs to it's side and starts biting its rear left foot. We'll need to slow it down in order for a chance to run if things get bad. So that's a good idea Sock had. I'll try to blind it if I get the chance. I activate Aegis, giving me a stacked stat bonus of twenty for five minutes. Aegis talks up.
"Twenty times stacked boost! That's going to take twenty hours of siphoning per minute! Five minutes means one hundred hours of siphoning gone!"
"I know that but we're fighting a raid boss. I need to boost my stats up that high."
A twenty stack of Aegis's siphons increases my stats by around four times normal value. All my stats are around one thousand after the boost. I inject a potion and activate my harmonicas. I move in towards the front of the basilisk and it rushes me.
IT'S FAST! Faster than I thought it would be. I reflexively jump into the air, far higher than normal. It looks up towards me. I have a clear shot at its face. While it is trying to position itself in a good spot to eat me as I fall. Double barrel knife cannons! Both explode right in its face. Enough to stun it so it wouldn't eat me. One of my three trumps have been used though.
The mage of the group finally woke up from the noise of the cannons. That lazy fuck was sleeping through this crucial fight! One of the basilisks eyes were injured. That will most likely slow down the time it takes for the basilisks gaze to paralyze someone. Chances are it can still paralyze though. I pull out my knives cannon with my right hand. The hand that Aegis is on. I'm going to fire it point blank at one of its legs. If we can hobble its movements we might be able to take down the basilisk. It will also make it easier to flee.
Its attention dropped from me as it turns towards the knight captain. It breathed in his direction causing all sorts of negative status effects. The knight captain will most likely be eaten before he can react now. I still need to cripple this fuck. The white mage who just woke up should be able to dispel him before he dies though.
The archer of the group has been firing arrows the entire fight but hasn't been able to land a single well placed shot. Its skin is too thick to pierce unless you hit the eyes. He must be afraid of being paralyzed. The basilisk is moving in for the kill against the knight captain. I get behind its left rear leg and fire upwards at the tendons where the body and leg are connected. Boom!
Loud enough to wake up the white mage 5 times over. The white mage is too panicked to help at all. He could have dispelled the status off of the knight captain fast enough for him to escape but was too dumbfounded by the situation to act. If I knew he wouldn't cast dispel, I would have done that first before taking down the basilisks leg. It's definitely crippled now. We could make our escape but as I think that the knight captain is eaten by the now in pain basilisk. Shit! What was the mage thinking? As I think that I hear Pokodo yell out.
“Dispel! If someone takes in any of the basilisk's breath! If you're not going to heal I can switch to dispelling!”
This entire time Pokodo has been weakening the ground where the basilisk would walk making it harder to move. Pokodo shouting must of snapped him out of it. He rushes towards the group now into range of dispelling if he needs to. It only took someone dying and Pokodo yelling to get him ready for battle.
The archer fled. He didn't want anything to do with this fight and decided his life was more important than his mission. It's me, my two pets one surviving knight and the white mage. Gem is watching, she's more terrified than the white mage was. She's a low reincarnation so she can't fight anywhere near equally with someone of a higher reincarnation. If she tried to help she would only get in the way.
I only have a single trump card left! The basilisk turns towards the last remaining knight. I doubt he'll last much longer than anyone else so I yell at him.
“Run! If it's looking at you run!”
The knight started to turn around but it was already too late! He was paralyzed by the basilisk's gaze from staring directly at it's eyes for too long. The basilisk slowly starts to move towards him, I've already started silent chanting dispel. I get it off a few seconds before the white mage has even started channeling his. It is just fast enough for the knight to realize he could move and get out of the way of a stomp attack from the basilisk. He fell onto the ground still too close to the basilisk, he'll be crushed in a few more steps.

I channel a control nature uppercut to throw him away from the basilisk. While it startled the knight, it did place him back on his feet so he could run away. I don't think he's going to stay around either and will retreat like the archer. The basilisk now turns towards me again. My pets have been attacking and supporting this whole time. I didn't even realize that Pokodo had cast haste on every single one of us. She used control nature sinkholes to slow down the basilisk enough for the knight to get away.
It's facing me! I have a few more things I can try before I'll give up and work on retreating. Even if we do retreat it might chase us for miles and I doubt the white mage or Gem would be able to run for that long. It's staring at me while I look at it from the corner of my eye. I throw a poison vial at its face, the wound from my double barrel knife cannons was enough for the poison to seep through even if it didn't hit its eyes. It shrieks out in pain. It's eyes are now completely closed. It should be much easier to hit and run now.
I pull out my bow. I had been unarmed this entire fight and take out a specialty arrow. The explosive arrow I made might be enough to hurt its skin. If I fire the specialty arrows at it in the same spot enough times I might make a weak point to target. While I'm doing this the basilisk is thrashing around frantically. Almost hitting Sock unintentionally in its upheaval. This is a world raid boss, I doubt it will stay blinded for long.
I fire an explosive arrow. It's tip isn't sharp at all, it is however a glass container full of liquid explosive. The small explosion that goes off is big enough to set off the tier four flare scroll attached to it. The explosion is massive! Big enough to cover the entire side it hit of the basilisk in flames. Its skin begins to crack and dry out from the hot flames.
Yes! This might just work! We continue to whittle it down. Slowly but surely we might be able to kill a raid boss with just my pets and me. The basilisk finally regains its sight. It immediately turns towards Sock. Fast enough to catch him with its breath! Shit! It's too close to save him! What should I do! Pokodo had already pre-chanted a dispel and without a second to spare Sock avoided being eaten. Most of him anyways. His tail was bitten off by the basilisk while he fled. I heard him yelp in pain. THIS FUCKER WANTS TO HURT MY PETS!
I fire another explosive arrow in the same spot. The skin cracks and starts too bleed slightly where I've been shot at. Sock had already retreated, I'm going to go all out with a chi wave. As I start channeling it Aegis chimes up in my head.
“Don't use me! I'll eat up too much of the chi you're going to use.”
I start focusing my chi into a chi wave. I move in towards its weakened side. 10%! Twenty percent! Thirty percent! Forty percent! Shit how much should I use!? It is a raid boss… Fifty percent was enough to kill the hobgoblin king… Will that be enough? I'll have to go over that in order to be safe. Fifty percent. Sixty percent. I move in as close as I can. Seventy percent. Eighty percent! I fire the chi wave! My hand can't handle the blast it shot out!
The chi wave came out of my hand. It started imbedding into the basilisk. The chi wave was almost big enough to hit the entire side of the giant lizard. The lizard big enough for me to walk underneath. I feel the pressure snapping bones in my hand. Shit the pain is more unbearable than when I stabbed the sword through my own hand and pulled it out. I'm on the verge of passing out. I force myself to stay awake long enough to see what happens to the basilisk.
The blast propels it off the ground. The basilisk must weight at least five tons! The skin that was sensitive from where fire hit was peeled away instantly. The parts that weren't hit by the fire are also slowly being chipped away. Everywhere without the layer of skin armor is completely destroyed. I can see flesh being ripped from this giant lizard. The chi wave is like a giant blender to it. The closest leg to where the chi wave was fire to is completely ripped off the basilisk. I barely managed to stay awake long enough to see the chi wave come out on the other side of the basilisk, splitting it in half. I pass out shortly afterwords.
