“Master, the nice guard lady taught me about sex!”
Gobber looks at me with a smile on his face. What? Did she end up having sex with Gobber?
“What do you mean Gobber?”
The guard speaks up clarifying. “He was pulled into a back alley and almost raped by someone. I caught her and explained exactly what she was trying to do to him.”
Well I guess that makes sense. People are willing to try and rape Gobber? It's almost funny since that's the opposite of how it is normally. Well nothing came from it and Gobber understands now so I guess that's okay.
“By the way, where do you two live anyways. You always leave town but don't come back. I'd like to know where you live... In case I need to get in touch with you.”
The guard was being straightforward but I could still sense an underlying motive.
“I'm sorry if you've already told me but whats your name?”
She answered. “Hilda.”
We all head towards the fortress, I'm trying to think of a reason why she would want to know our location. Is it because my uncle asked her to spy on me? No that's too roundabout for him, he'd just come to my school and ask. Well I mean all the other girls in the city like him so maybe she's fallen for Gobber. I try to sneakily ask trying to be quite enough that Gobber wont hear.
“Hey do you like Gobber.”
She stammered speaking very loudly. “W-what do you m-mean!?”
Bingo, she definitely likes him. “You just gave it away.”
I tell her, she starts blushing and staring at the ground.
“Gobber can you go ahead for us and make sure the gnolls know we're coming.”
He quickly runs ahead so me and Hilda can talk in private now.
“I'm fine with that but I want to know the reason.”
If she only wants Gobber for his looks it might become a problem later if he changes into the ugly version like the old hobgoblin king.
“Well, he always talks with me when he's waiting for you at the entrance. I started getting attached to him when I seen how quickly he was picking up the common language. He is cute too but it's different for me. I like his personality more than his looks. He's constantly learning and far different from other goblins.”
The reason is a well thought out one. I am still not sure so I ask a very uncomfortable question.
“What if he suddenly becomes ugly?”
She's quite for awhile. I don't think she's going to answer it but she eventually does.
“If Gobber becomes ugly... I'm not sure if I could stay with him. I would try as long as his attitude doesn't change I could probably look passed it.”
Wow what an honest answer. I half expected the whole "Looks don't matter." speech literally everyone gives when you ask them a question like that. Hilda might be too honest for her own good.
We make it to the entrance of the fort. Hilda is surprised at the size of it and also the people inside of it. We're greeted by the gnolls. Gobber must have told them to try speaking in common because they're greeting me in that instead of the gnoll language.
“Hello master.”
Being greeted by everyone in common feels weird coming from the gnolls. I decide to give Hilda a tour of the place. We show her the stables and hot springs. She's very impressed with it but also averts her eyes when a bunch of naked gnolls come walking out of it. I definitely have to make a side section with towels and a partition for women that visit.
She has seen the crops outside when we entered the fortress. I show her the forge.
“I'm surprised gnolls know how to do jobs. From what I understand they normally just stick with raiding caravans to steal food and equipment. I've had to kill a few who had gotten too close to the walls before.”
Another honest response from Hilda.
We head inside the cave. I skip showing her my room and we head into the mines. Currently they're digging going both down and up, searching for the top of the mountain to add a light source as well as oxygenating the cave mines. Digging straight up is extremely dangerous so Gargarz has to supervise. Since he's both the white mage and nature mage. It's safer with him being there to heal injuries and make sure the whole roof doesn't collapse on them.
A lot of the better ores are further down so digging in all directions would be the most beneficial. We haven't found any coal yet. That's the only resource I still need to buy. We head towards the main room.
It is where the loom and alchemy table are. As well as where everyone sleeps. We walk towards Gobber's room and I say.
“Gobber, Hilda wants to show you that sex thing. But human's only have sex with one person so if you do it with anyone else besides her. You'll hurt Hilda's feelings.”
Hilda is staring me down now. Maybe I pushed a little too hard? She still ends up going inside his room with him.
The next day I can tell that Gobber has become a man. He's awake before everyone else and greets me.
“Morning master, how are you doing?”
I can't help but smile at him now, pushing a baby bird off a cliff to teach it to fly. I couldn't even dream of killing Gobber anymore. He's become like a brother to me.
“It's going to be a good day today.” I tell him.
I don't think Gobber will cheat on Hilda... but someone might try to rape him again. I'm not sure how to handle that. He should be able to walk around the city without having to worry. Hilda can only watch him while she's off duty… I'm not sure what to do next. Maybe it would be better if Gobber stayed out of the city for now.
The stealth troops I've been training are getting to the point where I think we could take the bandit's down. As long as they don't number in the hundreds. I'll make adjustments to there crossbows making them all repeater crossbows. Everyone has a bolt pouch but not many have a lot of bolts. The number of troops exceeds the number of bolts that can be made. I'll go buy a few dozen from the blacksmith later to increase the average amount each one has. I should also enchant the bolts of everyone one day. I'll have to do it before we fight the bandits.
Hilda is walking around. It seems like a lot of the gnoll pups have taken a liking to her. I haven't taught them any classes yet. Having blank slates might come in handy later when I unlock more classes. Hilda has a giant smile on her face. I guess she's happy how everything turned out.
She's not wearing her full suit of armor like normal. She's wearing one of the sets of cloths I made for Gobber. I can see her face more clearly now, Golden color hair had been kept secret by her helmet. Extremely toned body from being on guard constantly. I'm starting to get jealous of how lucky Gobber is. To have women like her throwing themselves at him.
She approached me. “Hey Kite I'd like to talk to you about something private, can we go anywhere to talk?”
I wonder what this is about. Maybe she's going to say she wants to quit the guard and live here. Yea right. We head to Gobbers room to talk
“Kite I'd like to live here with Gobber.”
Really? I guess I was on point this time. “Of course.”
Today I made a women section for the hot springs. We're going to need it for our new resident. I think she can get used to the gnolls lack of privacy in every area but that one. I make sure everyone knows she's a new member here. If anyone attacks her in any way they'll have to answer to me and Gobber.
I'm not the strongest person here. Honestly Gobber could beat me in a fight easily. Hilda could too. As well as some of the gnolls. Leadership isn't about being the strongest though. I think the gnolls are starting to realize that. I doubt anyone would attack Hilda but it is just a precaution.
I figure Hilda doesn't want to just sit around all day so I ask her if there's anything she'd like to do.
“Well I was a guard for a few years. So I could be a guard but there's a gate so I'm not sure what to guard.”
I think about it for a second. “You can work as an escort for any of the gnolls or Gobber while they're in the city so they don't get harassed.”
Hilda looks at me thinking it through. “Hmm, I guess I can do that. I'll be bored while I'm here so I'll figure out something else to do while here.”
She walks away before she leaves I ask her what classes and jobs she is.
“I'm a fighter and knight, my jobs are tutor and detective.”
"What luck." I think to myself, I spend the next few hours learning it from her.

Job unlocked Detective- Able to more easily apprehend criminals, solve crimes and prevent crimes from happening
Skill upgraded Inspect --> Detect- Adds extra information to everything you inspect
I try it out. I use detect on my wand "duality of magic". I can tell the type of material it is made out of. The chances of learning the rare enchanting recipe by deconstructing it. Even its value if I were to sell it to a store. Thinking about it I haven't thought of deconstructing many things to learn from them.
I head to my room and find the pair of boots that have been collecting dust in my room. “boots of feather fall” I planned on using them once I was older. Now that I think about it I should have gave them to Gobber until then. Too late now, I use detect on them. The chance to learn the rare enchant is fairly high at 80%. Higher than I thought it would be. I decide to risk deconstructing it. As soon as I completely disassemble the boots a notice pops up.
Time mage tree learned
Enchant boots feather fall learned
Enchant boots speed learned
Enchant weapon swiftness learned
Enchant ring time magic boost learned
Enchant gear lightweight learned
Enchant bags lightweight learned
WOW! I can't believe I learned so many from just one rare. I'm kicking myself over that. I'm not even sure how I can make rares. I should head to the cities enchanter and see if I can't figure it out as well as maybe pick up another few rares to deconstruct. Maybe I should deconstruct my other rares? We'll see depending on what the enchanter says.
Schools normal as always. I head to the enchanter in the city. I can't believe I've never been here. It could be because I didn't even realize it was an enchanting store until I asked for directions specifically looking for it. He'd get more business if he hung a sign or made any indications on the type of building this is.
I've passed it a few hundred times without giving it a second notice. Opening the door I see a thin layer of dust covering the floor, the door brushing a clean spot. No ones here...I could possibly steal all the rares before anyone even noticed... I decide against it though. Since I'm here to learn about enchanting.
“Excuse me is anyone there?”
I hear a loud crash like someone falling from high place. A man comes out of the back room holding his ass he most likely just fell on. I chant healing magic on him, he thanks me.
“So little one, what might I help you with?”
The old man is wearing a fancy robe. When I use detect on it I see that it's a legendary! The quality of gear goes unenchanted, enchanted, rare, legendary then artifact. I know for a fact that his robe would be worth more than 10 times everything I own. Maybe even a few hundred gold coins, if it was good enough. Artifacts are beyond that. Priceless value, if you ever see one in your lifetime. Chances are you're royalty. You would have to give up your kingdom to even borrow it.
The legendary he's wearing happens to have five stat boosts and two effects. Going into detail it increased strength, intelligence, dexterity, stamina and armor. It had two effects which increased mana regen and a slight boost to all magics radius. Wow judging from the stats that robe could go for three or four hundred gold coins easily. He's wearing it like it's nothing special. I even think I see food stains on it…
“So are you going to buy something or just stare at my robe all day?” He asks again.
“I would like to know how to make rares and legendaries please.”
“To learn that you're going to need to buy something.”
I check the store, everything in it is beyond my price range for some information. Many of the enchanted gear was just plain stat boosts but still cost silver or even gold. The rares were even more expensive costing more gold then I had entirely. Let alone the single gold piece I brought with me.
“Do you have any rares worth one gold coin?” I ask, I can feel him get angry.
“You should just leave if you're not serious about buying anything.”
This old man is starting to make me mad. He sees my rare crossbow though. I pull out my shield, and wand as well for him to see.
“Well I guess you do know something about rarity. With how many you're carrying, it could be beneficial to befriend you. Someone with an eye for quality.”
He walks behind the counter and pulls out an old box, blowing the dust off. He opens it and inside is a handful of rings. Each ring has a different effect on it. None of them are enchanted with stats. Maybe these were practice rings for him.
“If you pick out the one that's the most valuable I'll give it to you.”
That was easy to do with my detective job. I could see the prices of everything. Looking at each ring closely. One could make the time magic stronger. That being the cheapest one. A mana regen ring, reduced mana cost ring, ring of void storage that could hold one square foot of stuff inside of it. And an extremely expensive ring. It had the effect of increasing the power of strength based attacks. That ring was obviously the most expensive to the point it seemed like a trick.
“I'm going to say the most valuable to everyone besides myself would be that gem encrusted ring. To me the more valuable one is that void storage ring.”
The store owner smiled.
“That was the perfect answer my boy. Anyone can see that one of the rings is more valuable than the other ones. To be able to see the true value of each piece is what makes a true rare collector.”
I would have a twelve percent chance to learn the enchant if I deconstructed it.
“Ok, so you wanted to learn how to make rares. It's pretty easy follow me into the back."
Following him back he approached a table. On the table was a bunch of enchanting paper. From detect I could see that the paper all had the enchant lesser void storage on it. If I deconstructed one of those I would have a one hundred percent chance to learn it.
"Ok, so in order for enchanters to learn rare enchants they must first sacrifice a rare piece. Upon destroying it they'll have a chance to learn a single enchant from that tree of enchants. To learn more then one rare enchant from each tree it becomes harder and harder."
I pick up the piece of enchanting paper that has the lesser void storage on it.
“Ah I see you understand already. So in order to enchant a single effect onto a piece of gear you need to stack one hundred of these onto each other. If you want to add a single stat you need to add one hundred of the enchant stat to it. If you want to add another effect you'd need one thousand stacked rare enchanted paper. In order to add another three stats you'd need another one thousand five hundred pages. In order to add more I'm not even sure myself.”
