Bonus chapter 4

God of Rebirth's point of view

I have an odd visitor while I'm guiding a soul back to a body. It is the Greater god… Why is he here? He almost always communicates telepathically with me. He hasn't visited me in many years, the only time I see him is when something goes very wrong. He'll come and help guide souls if we get too far backed up, like during catastrophic events. The last one I can think of is the dragon apocalypse that happened to the central continent.

The dragons had used their power to kill all the humanoids they could find in the central continent. Forcing most races out while a few hid and took their chances continuing to live there. The losses on the dragons side weren't small either. Sort of an all or nothing tactic the Death god had built up over thousands of years. It failed, he failed at killing all the humanoids… The only thing he accomplished was the removal of most humanoids from the central continent. Almost a thousand years later and the area is still only houses a few humanoid races. He doesn't give me a chance to ask why he's here.

“Hello God of rebirth. How's it going? Just here to check on a few things dealing with that special case you let through. You know the one...”

I pull out the self-updating file that he wants to look at. Even I'm shocked at the size it has become already. This file is the size of someone who has lived a full life. Maybe even the size of a file of a king who dictates many actions that would get sited in the file. I think the person would be roughly 12 years old now… I let out a little chuckle as I realize just how much of a special case this person is becoming. The Greater god flips through the file quickly.

“Ahh, it seems that the god of Chaos, Destruction, Death, Balance, Creation and Life have all tried to intervene again… I thought as much. Even after giving all of you strict orders to leave him alone, you all continue to try and guide Kite. All but you that is. So, because of this. Because everyone is trying to influence him besides you. I've decided to let you interact with him, just once. I'll even remove the cloaking I had placed on him so the gods would have a more difficult time interfering. Just for you of course, so you can watch him in your free time.”

“Really? All the gods besides myself have tried to lead this person already?… Just how special is he?”

“Hmm… I can only tell you what the world would have been without him in it to show you what he has changed so far.”

He starts telling me the story of the world without Kite. The first thing that would have changed is, the wrath trait would have taken control of Kite without any hindrance. Now, the wrath trait doesn't just make someone inherently evil or anything. Kite wouldn't have noticed that Lance's mother was trying to kill him either. Resulting in her living a few more years until she died to the disease that was effecting her brain… Just long enough for Lance to become crushed by her death… The go getter would have become far less outgoing, less likely to become someone great. I have to stop the story and ask who exactly Lance is.

“Ah, Kite doesn't just have a big file. He's influenced people to also have bigger files. Lance is one of them. His file wouldn't even be half as big if Kite didn't inspire him to be better than he would have been… To help him… Kite has pushed a lot of people towards being the best version of who they would become already.”

He continues with the story. With Kite not taking a class that let him retain his memories. He wouldn't be striving to become as strong as he would have normally. With taking the warrior class with berserker as his secondary class. He wouldn't have tried to leave the village… Even when the bandits attacked. Neither would have Kattie or Lance. All 3 of them would have got taken in and incorporated into the bandit army… Kite would hold resentment to them because they had killed his parents… Enough to start secretly planning to kill the bandit king.

It would be over an entire year before Kite would finally spring his plan and kill the leader by poisoning his food… With the leadership position open, it would go to the bandit's wife, Gem. At least for awhile. Her beauty could only influence for so long though. Kite would have been fine with just killing the bandit king for his revenge. He would have started to become friends with the bandits. Eventually killing her for the leadership position as the bandit king. Almost everyone was fine with this, they didn't need a weak leader like Gold and Kite was almost leading the bandits at that point anyways.

With Kite becoming leader, he could have any women he wanted as his wife. Choosing to take Trice and Ashley to be his 2 wives. Ashley had slowly started becoming more of who she was before… The previous bandit king had raped both sisters even under the watchful eye of his wife… It effected Ashley far worse than her sister. Kite had comforted her during this time. Killing the previous leader only made her fall in love with him more… Trice on the other hand was in love with Kite for years before that. Something to do with how strong he was… Always fighting, never giving up… Just like the heroes in the story books.

As the new leader, one of his missions was to help burn Shienta to the ground for the upcoming war. With an assault force attacking from the front and back. Merideth would fall far more easily. So he mobilized the bandits for this mission. The past few years were spent recruiting more bandits and increasing their numbers. 200 men might not seem like much but every bit will help the 5000 pirates take Shienta. Traveling to Shienta to meet up with the pirates they passed through a village in the forest and burned it to the ground. Kite didn't want any forces coming from this village to help Shienta if anyone managed to get away. Not leaving a single person alive to warn Shienta.

When the small group of bandits met up with the pirates. The leader of the pirates would have killed Kite for killing her sister. She would have played it off as if Kite was a bad leader but that would be to not look weak in front of her troops. She would secretly mourn the loss of her sister while maintaining her emotionless face in front of her troops. The pirates would soon invade the city and slaughter almost everyone. Very few people would manage to make it away since there was no warning of the attack… With the attack happening, the war between the north west and south west continents would commence… He finishes the story up to this point in time…

I can't believe how much Kite has changed in his short life so far… He's not even 15 years old yet and has already saved thousands of lives. On top of that, he managed to make the lives of many other people more easy to live… It sort of doesn't seem fair if you look at it that way. It isn't fair to everyone else who hasn't chosen master of learning… I bring this up to the Greater god.

“I would normally agree with you… If he didn't have so many disadvantages to leveling. I mean, you've seen the amount of people who have tried picking the learning class… It hasn't worked like this in thousands of years, no. It has never worked like this, no one has ever lived to level 20 since the God of balanced changed the class. No… It is different. Kite's hard work is the only reason he is alive right now. A huge part of luck also went into his survival.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well. At any point he could have given up. He spent the first 7 years of his life doing nothing but training. He gathered all the classes that would help him get strong as he leveled. He realized he wasn't strong enough to use a sword, so he switched to a weapon that dealt a set amount of damage because it attacked mechanically. He switched back and never gave up on getting better with a sword either. If he had ignored a single stat he would have no doubt died. Every obstacle put in his path, he would devise a gadget of some kind to make up for his weakness. I had predicted his death no less than 5 times and he has beaten the odds every single time. Most of the people alive around him should have also died… He is like a walking miracle.”

“I don't get it, doesn't that annoy you? You can't predict this person, he continues to break the limits you put on him.”

“Annoy me!? No, it excites me! For once I have someone to watch that wont bore me. That is the problem with being so good at predicting things. I know what is going to happen 99% of the time. Normally the 1% isn't consequential. But sometimes the 1% changes everything… Kite is the 1%. He is so fun to watch.”

The Greater god smiles… It honestly looks weird on him. He normally looks like a person going through the motions of life. This Kite person has given him something to enjoy again. Something that he doesn't know what will happen to it even if he thinks he does. Kite will change the situation to be different than what the Greater god thinks it will be… I think that might also be why the other gods have tried to interfere in his life. He is just that special… The Greater god leaves… I proceed to pick up the file on this person… I guess while I wait for the next soul to come through, I'll do a bit of reading.

Unknown person's point of view

There he is. He's finally shown himself. I continue to look through my self made spy glass to see further away. As an assassin, it is my job to know the most I possibly can about a target before I try and kill them. This target is special though. This is the first target I've ever been told to not approach under any circumstances. For a moment, I think he notices me… That would be impossible though, I'm so far away hiding in the middle of a tree. I could barely see him with my spy glass. It would be impossible for him to notice me from that far away. That is before I start to feel a chill down my spine.

Because of my work as an assassin, I've grown an almost sixth sense when it comes to sensing danger. Just looking at this person gives me this feeling… I get it now… Why I'm not supposed to engage this person. I wouldn't live to make it back to report my findings. I continue to watch him… From further away now, moving several trees back. Barely noticing him as he ducks between the walls of his base. He hasn't shown himself in over 10 minutes… I start to get worried, until I hear a voice underneath me.

“Hello there. Can I ask why you're spying on me?”

AHH!!! He scares me to the point where I fall out of the tree. I brace myself for a hard landing but it doesn't happen. Instead, I'm caught by this person and placed on the ground before I can react. I'm now laying on the ground… I look up at the person who caught me. The green of his skin barely puts off the attractiveness of his face. Light pierces through his hair, giving it an almost white tint. Why is he shirtless? He asks again.

“Can I ask why you've been looking at me from this forest?”

I prepare a lie for if he had caught me.

“I… I want to join your army!”

“Alright.”

…Really!? That's it!? That is all I had to do in order to get closer to him? He picks me up and we head back towards the fortress. Training for a portion of the day. He keeps correcting my fighting style… The person I am meant to spy on is now coaching me on fighting. How are all these people so skilled? The leader comes walking out… I recognize him by his red hair, he is another avoid at all cost target but he isn't the target I am supposed to learn about. The goblin waves him over… His eyes notice and stop on me as he speaks.

“Who is this Gobber?”

“Oh, she wanted to join the army.”

His eyes haven't left me… He now speaks to me.

“Why are you really here?”

I can feel the intense scrutinizing eyes on me. I try to lie again.

“I came here to join your army...”

He continues to look at me… It is like he already knows why I am here and he is waiting for the real reason. I'm ready to try and make a run for it before he continues to speak.

“Fine. Don't hurt anyone or I'll kill you myself.”

He turns away and heads back inside the fortress built into the mountain. I breath a sigh of relief and we continue to train for a few minutes… Until the leader heads outside with a helmet… I think I know what that helmet is for! I go to run but my arms and legs wont move. I don't think I could get away anyways but it is like his eyes have me paralyzed in fear. I can't move… He walks up and places the helmet on my head.

“Now, why are you really here? If you lie you will be put through immense pain.”

I… Should I try to lie? I'll try and see what happens.

“I came to join y-.”

The feeling of 1000 needles piercing my skin crawls over me. The feeling doesn't go away! It continues! AHH! Help! HELP ME! How do I stop this!? The truth! I need to tell the truth!

“Ah! The king! The king sent me to spy on your generals!”

He looks at me confused. He speaks again.

“Why would the king want to know information about my generals?”

“You… You have an army comprised almost entirely of non-humans. The king wants to know more about them in case you try to cause a rebellion before the war starts. I mean, you've already put Kline through mind control! He was a loyal spy to the king but you turned him into your own pawn.”

I look up at the helmet. He sighs and takes the helmet off my head.

“Please go tell the king I have no plans on betraying the kingdom. Once the war starts, my men will play our part in it. If he wants me to come and speak with him myself… Tell him to send you back here and I will head there to tell him the same exact thing myself.”

He turns and begins to walk away... I start preparing to walk out the entrance of the base but before I leave, I am stopped by the goblin. He speaks to me before I leave.

“Hey, show master your thingy?”

“...What!?”

“Your thingy! The thingy you used to look at me!”

...Wow I misread that situation. The leader now looks at me with a curious look. The scrutinizing eyes look like that of a happy puppy with a new toy once I bring out my spyglass. He asks if he can hold it. I hear him muttering some things.

“Hmm… I've seen these before but I couldn't figure out how the image flips back over… The one the bandit had was all unfocused but I still couldn't figure it out… Hmm… Is it a spell or some sort of other thing that is flipping the image. Hmm… Miss, do you know how this thing works?”

“Y-yea… I made it.”

“Ah! So, how does the image get flipped again?”

“It uses 2 lenses to focus it.”

“Ah! Of course! If 1 flips the image, another will flip it back! It's so simple! I couldn't figure it out because I was over thinking it! Hmm… Thinking that way…”

He hands me my spyglass and rushes off… What just happened? I'm shooed away by the goblin now…

Kite rushes back and stops me again.

“Wait! Wait! How much for that spyglass?”

I'm not exactly sure how to price it... I mean, he could kill me if I say too low. He hands me a few gold pieces, silver and copper as well. What!? This is way too much! He looks at the spyglass happily and starts to rip it apart in front of me... WHY!? He continues to mutter to himself.

“Ah! If I look closely at the lenses, I can see that they are slightly curved... Is this perhaps to flip the image more easily? Perhaps this is why the bandits was blurry? I'll have to do more research on this later..."

He turns and faces me. Not realizing I was still standing there. He clumsily yells out.

"Thank you!”

Before he runs off again… Leaving me even more confused than before… He's paid me over a years worth of completing contracts for a cheaply made spyglass... Ah! I Don't understand! This group is too odd to make any sense!
