I wake up, without much time left before it's too dark to make it to the fortress. I head to the merchants as soon as I wake up to buy a few heavy armor pieces. Knight seems like the best thing for him to learn since it doesn't become a very good class until it's leveled slightly to get the boosts to stamina.
Honestly, if he gets any stronger, I'm worried I wont be able to kill him. He might be immune to the poison I can cast on him. He has my crossbow that has enchanted arrows. I'm being pushed slowly into a corner by myself. When I get there this time, he's awake waiting for me. Gobber is feeding his pet spider now. Once he see's me a giant smile shows up on his face. He asks.
“Hey master welcome back! Have you brought the thing you needed?”
“Yea, I'm going to teach you how to be a knight today.”
Giving him the armor, I explain the basics of knight. I give him my sword and shield to borrow, until he unlocks knight. He's hitting the dummy I made with a stump I pulled from outside. I shaped it with control nature. It takes around a few hours but he finally learns it.
“Master, I got a weird notice when I unlocked knight. It said I reached my class limit.”
Brushing sweat off my head, thanking the fact that he only has 5 classes. I don't need to worry about him becoming too strong now.
“Well I picked the best 5 classes for you. You shouldn't have any problem getting stronger now.”
Gobber responds oddly.
“But I have 6 classes.”
I wonder which other class he learned. Well I did teach him a lot yesterday, so he might have learned one when I was gone. Being curious I ask him though.
“Which class is your sixth one?”
“Chemist.”
What?! A class I don't have! I'm not even sure what it does. It sounds like alchemist but I ask him to explain the class to me.
“Well it's like this. I can think up all kinds of different mixtures for potions and poisons that might make them better or worse and can use them against my enemies.”
Hmm I wonder why none of the other goblins didn't use potions against me. Now that I think about it I unlocked some weird potion recipes when I beat the hobgoblin.
“Was the last king a chemist?”
Gobber nods. Well that explains it, I should be able to learn that class then. The rest of the day I spend watching Gobber do different things involving chemist and explaining it. He's not Brick but he isn't a bad teacher. Mimicking some of the things I did when I taught him. Like explaining through example. It's probably light outside but we stay inside, him attempting to teach me finally pays off.
Class learned Chemist- passive skill Pharmacology- doubles the effects of potions as well as removing the chance to reduce your regeneration from drinking them, passive increase to all regen effects
Level 1 skill Injection- able to inject potions, stat boosting potions are more effective but have less duration and regen potions are instant but less effective
I rush to school, missing some of first period. It was completely worth it to me. I told Gobber I'm taking a few days off to make some potions and injection vials for myself and him. While I'm gone he's going to be practicing his new classes on a regimen I made for him. It involves running until tired in the morning. Target practice with the crossbow, sword and shield practice (I gave him my wooden and metal swords) and made a shield for him. It is very flimsy, I will probably buy him one.
I need to buy another pair of swords at any rate. I don't trust Gizmo enough to make material runs yet. So I activate him and have him follow me again. He needs to learn, the more he knows the safer I will feel sending him out into the world. He seems to be learning quickly from my actions. I'm taking it easy for a few days now. I decide to wait until tomorrow to worry about heading to the shops.
Gizmo's following me but I don't know what to do right now. It has been awhile since I've watched skirmishes. Leo and Epieoth are there sparring of course. A few others as well but for the first time I'm challenged. No one has ever seen me as the challenge so I don't think they've bothered. Epieoth and Leo both stop their match and walk to the onlookers section. I guess they're going to watch this so I don't have a choice. Leo yelled out to me, half jokingly saying.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
“If you lose the match Kite, I'll tell everyone your secret!”
Shit, why did I decide to come here today. Well if there's nothing to lose. I might as well not hold back or at least use more than 2 classes. The person who challenged me is in my time mage lesson. One of the bullies who has been bothering me since I first joined... I don't see any reason to hold back. Making the connection means he's half time mage, shortened chants. I summon a white mage, I haven't used summons in awhile but I feel it might be necessary if I'm knocked out or injured badly, he'll jump in.
The kid was trying to talk himself up the whole time. Stating that he knows how little of a challenge this is going to be for him. A few of his friends cheering for him while Leo cheers for me and Epieoth just stands and watches intently. Every match I've seen here, someone counted down the beginning of the match. This kid already started chanting magic without a count down. I cast silence to stop him. As expected he's shocked, confused and scared.
I don't even see mages as a challenge anymore. With my arsenal, they're too slow to retaliate. I have 30 seconds to beat him before he can even cast a spell. I don't have my swords at the moment, I came here in my school robes too with silk enchanted clothing on underneath. I'm still not completely defenseless.
Casting haste on myself, I rush in close and cover him in sticky webbing, immobilizing him.
“You can't talk so raise your hand if you give up if not I'll have to hurt you.”
Fear showed in his eyes. Instantly the class clown. The number 1 loser of the school turned into an unbeatable obstacle. I should have just declined because 4 more people challenged me to duels. All with similar results to the first duel. Finally Leo speaks up.
“I got next fight.”
Damn! Someone who could actually kill me is getting serious. He fights every single day and although he's never won against Epieoth. He has never lost to anyone else. I gave my swords away, don't have my crossbow or scroll pouch. I feel defenseless compared to when I'm outside.
No pets either. Only Gizmo is with me, who has no experience in combat. Even if he did, I don't think I'd be allowed to use him. I ask Leo.
“Before we start can you tell me which classes you are?”
“Ah yea, I'm black mage and red mage.”
Really? I don't know how he's going to beat me, he doesn't even have a weapon. Seems pointless to not use the red mages infuse ability. We start the fight normally, someone declaring the fight. I cast silence on him and he just stands still. Everyone else I approached and trapped with webbing but for some reason I don’t think that will work.
I start making pitfalls, soaking the ground in water to make it slippery in certain areas and reducing the strength of the ground in other area's so it's almost like sand. He seems to notice I'm taking extra precautions against him and not rushing forwards. So he starts to rush at me instead.
He bypasses all my hazards easily. Even the hidden weakened ground ones, he seems to be able to tell were they're at. I quickly pull a chunk of earth out of the ground and shape it into a sword. I infuse it with control nature as quickly as I can to block Leo right before he hits me. Strengthening the rock sword as much as possible, I can now see his weapon clearly. His claws are glowing red like they're infused with fire.
I purge his infused fingers. It looks like I surprised him. While he's vulnerable I hit him with a control nature opportune strike uppercut! “Critical hit!” My new attacked ended up knocking him backwards 5 feet. He would able to catch his balance but he landed in a water slick. He slipped and landed on the ground at the same time I solidified the area. He easily broke free but still raised his hand anyways in defeat. After the remaining few seconds of the silence finally ended I asked him a question.
“Why did you give up? You still could have beaten me.”
He looked at me mad, like I didn't understand something.
“No, if this was war you wouldn't have put down a water trap that would've been sharp earth spikes and I would've been skewered before I had the chance to defend myself. You surprised me and I dropped my guard... Thinking I was better than you. This is your victory.”
This is the first time I've ever seen Leo act so calm. I thought he'd be mad or wanting to kill me for getting him wet. I guess it might be a difference in culture because I don't get it but I'm glad its over.
“I'd like next fight.”
Epieoth spoke up for the first time I've ever heard him.
