Chapter 618:
“Besides,” she continued, “the person who made you empty promises wasn’t me; it was Santino. Feel free to track him down and ask him to keep his word!”
Upon hearing this, Darrel squinted slightly. “Ms. Clarke’s right. Santino’s the one you need to talk to.” His words had an underlying meaning.
“Though you’d better hurry — if nothing’s gone wrong after having his legs broken and passing out, he should have been sent out of Ontdale by now. You might catch him at the airport if you go there immediately.”
Darrel was always quick and decisive. He never messed around or took his time. He consistently honored his commitments and fulfilled his promises. Therefore, when Allison had mentioned she didn’t want Santino in Ontdale anymore, Darrel had acted immediately, ordering Santino’s removal. He could easily distinguish between right and wrong.
Lindy’s face flushed with anger. “Like I’d be able to find him now!” She clutched her head, her temples pounding with rage and humiliation. She looked wild, disheveled, desperate to regain her dignity.noveldrama
She wasn’t going to leave quietly, not without a parting shot. She fixed Allison with a cold glare. “If you’re going to be so heartless, don’t blame us for burning bridges. From this point on, the Stevens family is done with you. Consider us enemies!”
Lindy’s gaze flicked to Kellan and Darrel, a cruel glint in her eyes as she threw her words like barbs. “And as for the company you keep — I’d be careful. Some people have a lot of admirers, but all they managed was a dropout record in junior high.”
The dig was directed squarely at Allison. Many people knew that she had dropped out of junior high and had ended up stranded on a deserted island.
Melany played along with innocence. “Oh, Allison’s had plenty of admirers. Dr. Pierce, Mr. Herbert… they all seemed quite taken with her. It’s really something to envy!”
Melany whispered, “Unlike me, the only one by my side is Colton.” She mentioned the men who surrounded Allison on purpose. After all, Kellan and Darrel—both powerful figures—somehow chose to stand behind Allison, an orphan. That fact gnawed at her, filling her with resentment.
It was almost a rule of life: when a woman was both talented and admired by influential men, she inevitably became the target of jealousy.
Lindy noticed Melany’s deliberate provocation. While she recognized it, she couldn’t resist the pang of irony. “There’s nothing to envy about that viper!” Lindy spat. “Allison’s cunning—she twisted my son’s heart and snared him into marriage.”
Her gaze flicked to Kellan, Ferdinand, and even Darrel—prominent figures standing beside Allison. She couldn’t understand why people from such high society would align themselves with someone like her.
Lindy looked down on Allison with absolute disdain. Even if Allison had amassed a fortune, what did that change? She was still pathetic in Lindy’s eyes!
As she considered this, Lindy sneered and examined Allison closely. “Who would’ve thought? Some people lure men like flies to honey, managing to snatch up a fortune at such a young age. Quite the act for an—Ah!!!”
