Palworld Lore Chapter 012

“Who are you?” Someone whispered forcefully, while clasping my mouth shut. To my rude awakening, there was also a very large and sharp pointy knife hovering uncomfortably close. “Answer quietly, or else.” The voice demanded as the knife gleamed slightly, the hand moved from my mouth to my throat.

“I’m a wrecker, don’t remember my name.” I answered honestly. The voice didn’t like my answer, his hand tightened its grip around my throat.

“How did you follow us?” He moved the knife back, so I could see his face better.

“Who are you?” I asked the stranger who held me at knifepoint.

“It's Dave.” He let go of my throat. “You almost gave up Emily earlier, you don’t remember us?” He sheathed his knife, a look of confusion took hold of his face. “What happened to your eyes?” He shone a light briefly in my face.

“Not cool Dave.” I tried to blink the blindness from the sudden flash from my eyes. “What about my eyes? Why do y’all look so different?” I tried to rub the whiteness away with my hands.

“How different?” Dave shuffled somewhere in the dark shack. He slightly opened the top corner of the curtain acting as the door. The light from the setting moon let him check the exterior for any movement. “Wait, who put you on the ship in the first place?” He placed a hand back on his knife.

“The Doctor flew me out, I was asleep for the ride until we landed on the boat.” I stood up slowly, a frown of worry on my face. “Dave, why would someone who has a phobia of the ocean, get onto a ship in the middle of the ocean?” I had a sinking suspicion and a very bad feeling.

“What Doctor? This mission was sent up by Major Ashwood.” Dave’s glare was back with his knife out and at the ready. “How did you even get onboard-” He stopped short as he spun around with unbelievable quickness. His blade shone in a gleaming arc towards the newcomer.

“Dave.” Emily spoke his name with a cold glare in her icy blue eyes. His knife stopped a good measure from its trajectory towards her neck.

“Woah.” I blinked as I just noticed her own knife was pressed into his throat.

“Apologies, ma’am.” Dave backed down as she entered the small shack.

“Is that your real hair color?” I had to ask her, I did not remember either of them looking like they are.

“Yes. How come I remember you, but can’t place your name? Or how you even joined our crew.” Emily slapped her blade onto the side of my face, examining it closer.

“Uhh… I remember flying a drone, I was strapped on top of the mast of the ship.” I followed the tip of her knife, it stopped on my throat.

“Now there’s that funny word, drone. Why do we need a human to operate another’s tamed Pal?” Her business smile became dangerously sharp.

“Why are you whispering?” Ivy asked from a dark corner, she lifted her gun to prove a point. “Now, who are you?” She aimed at Emily, who had me at knifepoint.

“Don’t move buddy.” Tara ordered Dave to standstill at gunpoint while standing in the doorway.

“What is going on here?” I yelled out loud, trapped in an overcrowded hut full of weapons.

“Raid!” A cry went out before a metallic bell began to clang out in the night.

“Seriously?” I cried out. “Why is everyone trying to kill each other?!” I look at the two groups. Emily had surrendered her weapon, with much stubbornness. “Me too?” I raised my hands up as Ivy shoved her gun at me.

“Yes you, their target was you, wasn’t it?” She walked me out of the hut after the two others. “So you have something to do with all this. Are you Syndicate spies” She poked me in the back to get me to move it.

“What is this syndicate you keep referring to?” I exit the shack to see the group that brought me here is in some nice looking metallic armor, all armed with nice shiny guns. “Hey guys, what’s up?” I was just met with a silent glare.

“What in the Calamity is all this?!” A deep voice boomed out from above. Dave and Emily looked up, before moving out of the way, I wasn’t so lucky. A large figure dressed in heavy metal armor landed right beside me. “Why are you making a mess of my town?” His helmet covered everything but his loud mouth. “Well?!” He put his rifle in my face.

“I don’t know anything! I swear!” I threw my hands up, trying hard as possible to show I surrendered. “I have no clue what is going on here!”

“Sir!” A lightly leather armored, spear wielding fighter approached the group before saluting.

“What?!” The angry man turned to his subordinate.

“It’s Hoss with his Elites, he wants blood, sir.” The fighter reported worriedly.

“That crazy bastard… Can’t even honor his side of things.” The large man in charge groaned. “Woody, toss this one in the office for now. Ivy, watch him.” He gave the order. Woody nodded and motioned for me to move with his gun. “Shoot him if he tries anything.” He gives Ivy a look. “Non-lethal, if you can manage.” He adds.

“Fine.” Ivy replied a bit unhappily.

“What about them?” Tara asks from beside the man.

“We only need one.” He says coldly, before lifting and firing his gun in Dave’s face.

“Bas-” Emily tried to yell, but was struck in the back of the head by the butt of Tara’s shotgun.

“Move!” Ivy kicked me in the back, sending me rolling to the ground.

“In here, now.” Woody opens the only door to the largest shack in the campsite.

“You try anything, and she will happily shoot you, so stay.” Woody slams the door after I enter the candle lighted room. I heard them briefly argue about something like keep this one alive, and something about the last few times, there goes my try at running away.

“What the hell is going on here?” I let out a sigh as I sat on the only chair available. “How did I even get involved in this mess?” I try to remember, but an electronic chime pulls me back to reality. “What was that?” I heard it again, it was muffled. I start to wander around the piles of paper and old books scattered around the room. “Why is this all left out?” I couldn’t read any of the writings.

“Don’t touch anything!” Ivy yelled while banging on the door, from the outside. “Just sit down and wait, because otherwise I might think you are trying to escape.” She threatened me.

“Where is-” I tried to silently shift a few more pages, when the ping sounded out stronger. “-there you are.” I pull out a clear transparent tablet, with a few metallic pieces around its frame. “Is this some kind of tablet?” I tap on the glass screen, before a blinding light followed by a chime sounds out. “Why my eyes, again?” I groan as the blinding light blocks my vision.

“What are you doing in there?” Ivy shouts again.

“Sorry, I fell out of the chair.” I lied to her, I stumbled once more before getting back on the seat.

“How hard is it just to sit still? Hmm, why can’t I hear the fighting yet?” Ivy went back to her guard duties.

“Alright.” I blink as my sight returns. “Let's try this one more time.” I cautiously glance at the tablet’s glowing screen, only a rune-like symbol is showing. I tap it, while holding it away from my face. “Huh?” I bring it up to my face after nothing happened. The symbol disappeared as words started to type. “The Towers are the Key? Skip. I need important information here!” I started to spam tap the screen.

“Enter name? I don’t know it, so… oh, a random button, that works.” I hit a button on the side of the blank name section. “Starting bonus, none? Okay. Bonus stats? None. I don’t like the sound of this.” I kept on going through the prompts on the tablet. “Starting location? Is this a gaming tablet?” I groaned as I looked at the door which began to open up.

“What are you doing in-” Ivy took one look at the tablet in my hand, before reacting by bringing her gun up. “Drop it!” She yelled out.

“What?! This gaming tablet?” I held it out, hoping it might stop a bullet.

“I said drop it!” She motioned for me to let it go.

“Okay, okay!” I glanced at the tablet one last time, before my thumb pressed the random choice button. “I’m dropping it.” I held it out, like I was about to let it fall.

“Shit!” Ivy opened fire as my finger pressed the button.
