“Is everyone alright?” The leader checked their group after the attack landed.
“Where’s the wrecker?” Ivy glanced around. “Think he’s dead?” She asked with a wicked smile.
“Mmfhmfh!” I tried to yell out, but being buried muffled my cries. Thankfully one of my hands wasn’t, so I started to snap my fingers to get their attention.
“Get him out of there, before more of those morons attack Mammorest.” The leader took out her weapon. “I’ll keep cover, hurry!”
“Lucky bastard.” Ivy grunted as she helped move some boulders and dirt off my buried body.
“I can’t feel my right leg.” I hissed, trying not to cry out in pain. Ivy slaps a hand over my mouth as one of the others lifts a large boulder off of it. “MMMPHFPHM!” Searing white hot pain runs throughout my body as my leg is freed.
“Tara, it’s bad.” A gruff voice informed their leader. “It needs healing.”
“Move him to the cave, it’s not safe to heal him here.” Tara came over to inspect my injury. “Swiss, go get Heather. We’ll meet you at the Windswept Cave.” She pulled some kind of syringe with a dim glow. “Brace yourself.” The serious look in her eyes worried me.
“Wolf?” I was momentarily distracted when the figure named Swiss threw something on the ground that burst into light for a brief second before a large wolf appeared out of thin air. Swiss jumped on top as it took off sprinting into the night like the wind.
“Gag him.” Tara stuck the large needle into my back, I opened my mouth to scream in pain, yet a giddy looking Ivy shoved a piece of cloth to silence me. “Wrap him up and carry him to the dungeon. We got more company coming.”
“Mpmhpmhpm?(What did you do to me?)” I asked through the gag while I was roughly wrapped up in a blanket. I felt my bones cracking and moving, my muscles tearing and spazzing out, yet the pain was slowly receding. “Mphmmmph?(Am I dying?)” My terrified shaking voice struggled as my energy began to drain away.
“Only if we don’t hurry up.” Tara ungagged me once the drugs started to kick in. “We need to get into the cave now!” She commanded before taking the lead, while the others hoisted me over their shoulders. “Good thing that Mammorest went after the thugs. I hope our path to the cave is clear.” The group started to run up the beach to the rocky cliffs behind a small gathering of trees.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
“What is this place?” I asked, trying to distract myself from my shivering painful body. “Was that a wooly mammoth? I thought they were extinct.”
“Not Woolymammoth, Mammorest, it’s the largest Pal in this zone.” Ivy was jogging next to the people carrying me. “Those syndicate morons have been trying to get one for months now.” She turned a death glare towards me. “Are you with them, who are you?”
“Who? I don’t even know where the hell I am? I’m a pilot, name’s… Huh? Why can’t I remember my name?!” I start to realize something is really wrong with me. “How can I remember everything but my own name?! Where am-mphm!” The gag was shoved into my mouth again.
“He’s a wrecker alright. Might be a tamer at this rate.” The gruff guy who held my legs said.
“You sure he’s not a poacher?” Ivy squinted, like she was looking for something on face. I raise one eyebrow in the universal signal of ‘are you serious?’ A loud trumpet followed by an explosion drew our attention back to the fight. Mammorest was once again under attack from some thugs with explosives and flamethrowers. “Those poor Foxparks, those syndicate bastards will pay for this.” Ivy had a frightening look filled with hateful rage at the attackers.
“It’s a Power Bomb! Get through the veil!” Tara shouted as she broke into a panicked sprint. I felt my carriers do the same. My eyes widened at the sight of a small sun appearing above a giant mammoth-like creature that had foliage and rock spires on its back. The thugs stopped their attack and turned to try and flee from the oncoming attack, their retreat was headed right for us.
“AHH!” The group of thugs didn’t get too far, the eyes of Mammorest shined with intelligence I have never seen in animals before. Its trunk lowered to the ground in a throwing motion, the miniature sun slowly made its lethal approach. I could only watch in horror as it engulfed the group of thugs in a blindly light before an explosion happened, yet before I could feel the blast, a cool dark curtain washed over my body.
“We made it!” The group cheered with ragged breaths, the guys carrying me dropped me on the ground, causing me to scream in pain against my gag. “Sorry wrecker.” The gruff guy helps make me as comfortable as I can be while removing the gag. “Can’t believe we made that.”
“Troy, Ivy! Get your Pals out and guard this room, don’t let the wild ones get to us. It’ll be a while before Heather can reach us, hopefully all the thugs perished.” Tara knelt down next to me. “Yavis, how many more stims do we have?” The other guy carrying me looks through his large backpack.
“I only have 3 left, it’s going to be close.” Yavis pulls out another one of those glowing syringes and hands it to Tara. “Here, eat this first.” He shoves some candy looking food into my mouth, while covering it with his hand. “You need to eat this, or else you’ll die from overdosing before your injuries kill you.” His smiling face when telling me this does not ease my worries.
“Brace yourself.” Tara raises the syringe over my chest, I hurriedly bit into the candy and was instantly met with a rich sickly sweet honey and herbal taste. I swallowed as hard as I could, just in time for a stab to my chest and cracked a few of my ribs.
“Are you trying to kill him?” Yavis asks after she finishes the injection. “You do remember he’s a new wrecker without any strengthening, right?”
“I didn’t want the needle breaking on his skin, I lost too many people that way. Broken bones can be healed, a dead body can’t.” Tara tossed the syringe aside. “Mammorest should have cleared out the thugs, after a while I’ll go out and make sure it’s clear.”
“P.A.L.? You know what they are?” I tried to distract myself from my broken body, even with the drugs they gave me, it hurt to talk.
“Yes, this is my Pal.” Tara tossed a mystical looking crystal sphere that floated in the air before splitting in half. A bright light flashed and the sphere was back in her hand, while a large green monkey-like creature looked at me. “This is my Tanzee, Millie.” The creature let out a monkey’s cry before lifting an assault rifle that appeared in its hand from thin air.
“Where in the world am I?” I watched as Tara and her Pal walked further into the dimly glowing cave to join the others, who also released some strange creatures from spheres.
“Welcome to Palpagos Island, home of the Pals.” Yavis said with a merchant-like smile.
“Aliens…” I mumbled as I lost my consciousness.
