With an order from Alex III, the Mountains and Rivers Alliance began to take action.
As the second-highest-ranking figure in the Mountains and Rivers, Alex IV ordered the prime minister to devise a strategy to spread the rumor.
It was like a chain of laziness.
Alex III was too lazy to do it, so he instructed his son to handle the task. Also, being lazy, Alex IV ordered the prime minister to take care of it. In turn, the prime minister instructed her ministers to find a way, and they, in turn, directed their subordinates to come up with ideas. The ministers' subordinates, in turn, sought ideas from their underlings.
It clearly showed decay within the Mountains and Rivers Alliance after years of having no external enemies.
Nobody did the job, and everyone wanted to evade responsibility.
As a result, even after two months, they still had yet to devise any plans.
Feeling anxious, Rob contacted Alex III again.
His plan was time-sensitive; currently, most people in the Star Dream World believed him to be a ghost, but this perception might not last.
He needed to push it across the finish line as soon as possible.
Alex III became so angry when he heard nothing had been done yet. He went straight to Alex IV, chastised him, and gave him a deadline of one month.
If the rumor has not spread wide and far by then, he will remove Alex IV from his position.
Alex IV has become a lazy person.
For thousands of years, he was used to sleeping in the mornings and enjoying life at night. Occasionally, Alex III gave him tasks, but he always delegated them to his subordinates.
This time, however, Alex III imposed a deadline, leaving him with no chance to cut back on his enjoyments.
...
Alex III looked at the prime minister with boredom.
"What's your plan? I will kill you if you fail to spread the rumor in one month. Now, talk!" Alex IV said coldly.
Alex IV didn't like using his brain these days, so he delegated the act of thinking to his subordinates.
The prime minister, a woman named Ava, took a deep breath to explain the plan her ministers had devised. "Our people are already familiar with Rob, as they know the rumors from their doppelgangers. They are already susceptible to believing these rumors. It is easy to spread this rumor. We only need an affirmation from our lord, Alex III. If his honor officially proclaimed Rob as a ghost, everyone would believe it!" she said.
Whether it was Alex III, Alex IV, or even the prime minister, none of them bothered to think much; the fact is that making the medieval population believe this rumor is easy.
Many underestimated the weight of Alex III's words. One word from him could turn the mountains and rivers upside down.
If he recognized Rob as a ghost, everyone would unquestionably believe it.
There is no need for trickery and plans.
Alex IV nodded and said, "Proclamations from His Majesty must come from himself, but His Majesty's location is unknown, and we cannot ask His Majesty to do it himself, as His Majesty has given me the task. Come up with another plan!"
The prime minister had a second plan, guessing this would be the outcome. "We could order government offices everywhere to discuss a meeting between ghosts and vampires. Your Honor, Alex IV is less well-known, but we have very well-known vampires in the alliance. If we tie Rob being a ghost with a well-known vampire, everyone would unconsciously recognize Rob as a real ghost."
Tying a fake thing with a real thing is a traditional way to deceive people.
When people see one diamond that they are sure is real, they will assume the one next to it is also real.
"Who do you have in mind?" asked Alex IV.
He is not a well-known figure, and nearly nobody knows him. But there are a few celebrity vampires that everyone knows.
It was part of a program ordered by Alex IV to make vampires more 'fun' and 'approachable.'
Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.
Good-looking vampires went around the country to sing and dance. The program was a failure, as vampires remained as feared and distant as ever, but many of the vampires who went around to do the shows became very famous.
"Sophia is a great choice!" the prime minister suggested.
Sophia was a vampire with silver hair.
Her silver hair was natural and extremely rare in the entire world.
She was chosen to become a vampire because Alex III liked her hair. She was selected to act as a singer because of her excellent voice and, more importantly, her beautiful figure.
She stood out wherever she went. She is the most famous and approachable vampire in the world.
Alex IV nodded and ordered, "Do according to your plan!"
The prime minister is responsible for day-to-day operations, but any significant change or act must be approved by Alex IV or a vampire agent designated by him.
That's why the prime minister couldn't do much without his approval.
The prime minister bowed and left.
...
Soon, it was announced that a meeting would be held between the leader of ghosts in the Star Dream World and the deputy leader of vampires in this world, Sophia.
The rumor of Rob being a ghost was everywhere in the Star Dream World, but the rumor had yet to spread in the Mountains and Rivers Alliance.
Nobody cared, really.
But after the debate was announced, many became interested.
A discussion between supernatural creatures that would be accessible to all was fascinating.
They decided to hold more than 100 debates in many cities to allow everyone to listen. They do it using doppelgangers of both.
They hyped it up that the debates would reveal secrets of long-life vampires in this debate.
It was taken as a fact that Rob is a real deal, an actual ghost.
Most people in Mountains and Rivers have doppelgangers, so they were already susceptible to believe it. With this final nail, the threshold reached 80%!
...
Doctor Smith's eyes were wide as if he had seen a ghost.
Even with the most advanced equipment, he couldn't detect any heartbeat from Rob.
"How is it, Doctor?" Rob asked with a bit of worry.
A while ago, he felt changes in his body. His body became very cold, and his breathing stopped.
But he didn't become a ghost. He still had his body, and it was beginning to rot. He didn't want to become a zombie, but that was how he was going.
Doctor Smith was speechless.
He couldn't talk. His experience and knowledge told him that the man in front of him must be dead, yet he was walking and talking.
"It's fine!" he mustered the strength to say this.
"How is it fine? My body is rotting! Do a body replacement for me!" Rob ordered.
Doctor Smith didn't dare talk. Body replacement would no longer work.
"His brain is also rotting with the rest of his body, so how can he even talk?" Doctor Smith felt like the world was spinning.
"The brain replacement works if the brain is healthy! Rob's brain is rotting as we speak. It's so bad it's visible from the outside!" he thought.
"Do something, Doctor! I can't go out like this!" Rob urged his Doctor.
His eyes were white, his mouth had traces of rot, and his skin was very pale. It didn't look good, to say the least.
Doctor Smith took a deep breath and said, "I will test the samples; please stay here for a few hours." He had already taken many samples and planned to test them with advanced equipment.
Rob nodded, and Doctor Smith left.
Only nurses who had passed rigorous background checks were allowed in the room.
After a few minutes, Rob scratched his nose.
"Tap." Rob looked down on the ground, and his eyes widened; it was his nose!
"I'm rotting away!" he felt horrified.
It wasn't as horrifying as it might have otherwise been because they could do a body replacement for him, but if the cause of the issue wasn't fixed, then the problem would not get better.
The problem was he didn't want to become a zombie but a ghost.
"How do you become a ghost?" he searched on the internet with his smartphone.
"Tud." His index finger broke!
Looking at his hand, he felt his body was melting!
"Call Doctor Smith!" he screamed.
At this rate, he wouldn't survive until the results came.
A nurse ran out to call Doctor Smith, but when he arrived, what he saw was a rotten corpse.
...
Rob looked at his surroundings.
Then, he looked at himself. His look was the same as he was born with.
"Doctor Smith!" he shouted, but Doctor Smith, who was on the other side, didn't hear anything.
He couldn't see him. Rob tried to slap him.
But he failed; his hand passed through him.
"Now, I'm a proper ghost," Rob smiled, not knowing whether to be happy or sad.
"Ghosts can possess people and are mighty supernatural creatures; now, I'm immortal, like Alex III! At least I would not die after this. The problem is that I don't have a body."
Just then, Rob felt a particular urge indescribable for humans.
"I feel like... I want to touch something!" He felt very strongly.
Then, he let go of his restraint and allowed the instinct to do its job. With a jump, he went straight into Doctor Smith.
Doctor Smith, examining the corpse, suddenly stiffened up and smiled wickedly. "Successful!" he laughed.
After this, he is a genuinely immortal creature, invincible, unafraid of death! The nurses looked weirdly at Doctor Smith.
"Doctor?" she asked.
"Go and order a new body for Rob!" Doctor Smith said.
"But, didn't he just..." the nurse wanted to retort but was met with a chilling gaze that was so terrifying she nearly peed herself.
"Do as I instructed!"
..
A few months of vacation was typical for Rob.
Nobody became suspicious because of his few months of absence.
In a secret room, 'Doctor Smith' looked at the naked body of Rob.
He closed his eyes and fell to the ground.
The naked body slowly stood up.
"I'm finally myself again!" Rob laughed heartily.
Doctor Smith's body began rotting. Rob has already eaten the soul of Doctor Smith and absorbed all of its knowledge.
A body without a soul would gradually rot away, but the body held on because Rob was in the body for this long.
As he left, however, the body melted away quickly.
"It looks like I need lots of bodies after this!" Rob laughed evilly.
Fortunately, they have body-making technology, so he won't ever lack a body.
With this, he began cleaning around.
The death of Doctor Smith would be a bit troublesome to conceal, but with his connections, he could make something up.
After wearing prepared clothes, he called a few trusted bodyguards and left in a luxurious car.
They will handle the rest of the cleanup job!
