After a while, John woke up.
"Where am I?" he looked around, confused.
The last thing he remembered was the face of a certain man with a long beard.
"Hey, you woke up!" Alex IV was looking at John expressionlessly.
"Who are you?" John asked, confused.
In the Mountains and Rivers Alliance, the face of the prime minister is everywhere. Everyone would recognize her.
Similarly, paintings of Alex III are also found in many places.
Alex IV, however, is a secretive figure. Only the higher-ups ever met him. Vampire agents, in general, are a mysterious bunch that most fear.
"I am Alex IV, chief of vampires. Do you not feel anything strange?" Alex IV asked doubtfully.
Finally, John looked around with wide eyes.
He could see everything clearly, but it was different from before. He could see everything despite no source of light in the room.
Then, he began hearing the sound of wind from an unknown source.
The room where Alex IV's coffin was located was a very remote and quiet place. With a vampire's strong sense of hearing, they cannot sleep comfortably in places with too much noise.
The reason most vampires sleep in coffins is also due to this. Their coffin is not just for light insulation but also as a sound insulator.
"What is wrong with me!?" John stood up in fright.
Alex IV sighed and called out a few vampire agents.
The vampire organization is headquartered in Alex City. There are more than 1,000 vampires who sleep near this place.
John is just getting used to his powers and can be very dangerous if allowed to run outside.
A newly made vampire could be far more dangerous than an army of enemies.
Alex IV couldn't restrain John himself. Currently, Alex IV's speed is 45 percent of the speed of sound.
As a newly made first-generation vampire, John's speed is 30% of the speed of sound.
In a battle, Alex IV could easily defeat John, but restraining him without killing him is still too hard to be done by him alone.
It can be done much safer with other vampires helping.
With his order, ten vampire agents came out.
At the moment, all of the vampires in the world are made by Alex III.
Alex III never allows any other vampire to create vampires. He doesn't want vampires he couldn't control to exist.
This is why vampires do not threaten ordinary people around the country.
Wild vampires who eat ordinary people don't exist; vampires created by Alex III only feed on people deemed as food by the Mountains and Rivers Alliance's legal system.
And, in any case, as first-generation vampires, their need for blood is very little.
They only need to drink blood once every six months.
Second-generation vampires must drink blood once a month.
Third-generation vampires once a week, and fourth-generation+ vampires once a day!
Those are base numbers. As vampires age, their need for blood decreases. For example, Alex IV now only feels hunger every nine months.
For vampires, the older they get, the more 'pure' they become. That's why their sensitivity to sunlight also increases with age, as the more 'pure' the vampire, the more sensitive to the sun, and the stronger and faster they become.
By this point, John was running around wildly at his max speed.
Fortunately, the walls were reinforced steel, 14 centimeters thick, that not even first-generation vampires could easily break through.
Alex IV specifically ordered them to create thick walls because this is where vampires sleep. If it's not secure, then if someone malicious wants to kill them, they could just break down the house, and the sun would burn them to death.
This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
But, with the thick steel walls, it can at least hold on until night. At night, vampires are kings, so they can kill anyone who tries to kill them.
This is just a last measure. The vampire headquarters is in the place, so if someone manages to attack them here, the prime minister is most likely cooperating with invaders.
The prime minister was selected carefully, so it's unlikely to happen.
Even though John hit the wall a few times, he didn't manage to go out.
The ten vampire agents, far older than John, sprang into action and held him down. They were annoyed.
Mornings are their sleep time. Now, because this new guy acted like this, they were forced to wake up from sleep.
Vampires usually sleep in the morning.
Technically, vampires do not need sleeping, but most do. Like in food or having sex, vampires usually keep their human habits, even though they don't need food or have children.
John, secured and held down by so many vampires, screamed and tried to get out but failed.
"You are a vampire now! Just sit still until the night; then, they will teach you everything you need to know," Alex IV said this, then went back to his coffin. He wants to sleep.
"I don't want to be a vampire!" John screamed.
"Quiet! I'm sleeping here," Alex IV said annoyingly.
"It's an honor to be made a vampire by his majesty! How dare you complain?" one of the vampire agents, Andrew, said.
"I have a family! I have a wife and children! Let me go!" John shouted.
"Don't worry about them! Now that you are a vampire, your rank is already equal to that of the prime minister! You have been promoted from rank 9 guard to rank 4 vampire agent! So, your family is going to get rich. But, I advise you to start forgetting them. Now, with them as mortals and you as immortal, you will watch them as they get old and die!" Andrew said.
Vampires usually choose another vampire as a partner, so gender parity is important when creating vampires.
Vampires can have families, but they are not allowed to make another vampire.
Alex III always orders his vampires not to do it.
When Alex III orders his vampires about something, they cannot refuse. A vampire's creator can order their creations to do anything. That's the main reason Alex III doesn't allow anyone else to create vampires: because he cannot order vampires he didn't make.
One condition of ordering a vampire he made is physical proximity. So, he couldn't order his creations if they hid from him.
He could summon his creations, but they couldn't be forced to respond to his summons.
That is unless he gave them default orders. Default orders are orders given to his creations with no deadline, which must always be followed.
Alex III has a few default orders he gives to all his creations. One is not creating any vampire without his express permission, and another is responding to all his summons.
John hasn't received the default orders for now but will do so later.
Alex III will personally give default orders on the day he graduates from the Vampire Agents Academy. Until then, John is not allowed to leave the vampire headquarters.
They have a special facility for training vampires.
"Let's go!" Andrew ordered.
They began dragging John to someplace.
The vampire facilities are pretty far apart, but fortunately, a tunnel is made between each so they can move around even during the day.
They dragged John to the training facility.
He would spend the next year here to be able to control himself.
For now, however, it's time to sleep. So, they opened a cage made of pure silver, threw John in, and then used gloves to close the door.
"Let me go!" John cried. His life has upended in ways he couldn't even imagine.
"Why are you crying? This is an honor! Just remember not to touch the cage!" Andrew chuckled and left with the other agents.
Silver is poisonous to vampires. Like the sun, the older the vampire, the stronger the weakness to the silver gets.
John touched it and screamed. It was like touching a near-melting pole.
Now, having no other choice, he just sat down quietly. His mind was blank; he wasn't even thinking of anything.
After a few hours, it finally became night.
The vampire trainers gradually woke up and showed up.
There were a total of 4 vampire trainers and only a single vampire agent-designee, John.
The vampire trainer job is part-time. They would be given contribution points to train vampires, but most of the time, they have other jobs, as Alex III rarely makes vampires these days.
"John, right?" a woman with silver hair came.
She was one of the vampire trainers.
John didn't say anything.
The woman sighed and opened the door of the cage with gloves. Then, she snapped her fingers.
A human woman, unconscious with a beating heart, appeared beside her. With her left foot, she kicked the unconscious woman to John, then closed the door of the cage.
"What are you doing?" John asked, confused.
He checked the pulse of the unconscious woman; she was alive.
The silver-haired woman laughed, "You need to check her pulse? Really? You can hear the heartbeat!"
John stared at the neck of the human woman. He could hear the blood; he could smell it. It was disturbingly appetizing.
John was a smart person but not evil. He wanted Alex III's attention because he thought he would be rewarded with money.
He never thought or wanted to become a vampire.
As for drinking human blood, it's a nightmare for him. He couldn't even imagine himself killing people for their blood.
Vampires drinking blood is no secret; this is part of the reason vampires are so feared.
John, as a pretty well-informed guard, knew vampires were part of the leadership of the Mountains and Rivers Alliance.
Most people in the capital at least suspect it, but in other cities, most have no idea vampires rule the alliance.
John began feeling more and more hungry as time went on, but he miraculously managed to resist drinking the woman.
The woman remained unconscious; John had no idea what they gave her to make her stay unconscious for so long.
As time went on, he felt more and more hungry and sleepy. Finally, he fell asleep.
...
John slowly opened his eyes.
He just had a good dream. It was the best dream he ever had. He was in a warm place, like under a hot shower, with absolute peace. It felt like heaven.
Then, he felt a strange smell. Looking around, he jumped up, nearly hitting the cage ceiling.
Blood was everywhere, with the woman in the corner of the cage covered in blood.
He didn't hear any heartbeat coming from her!
"Who did it?" he knew the answer in the back of his mind.
But unconsciously, he refused to believe it and shouted, "Why are you doing this to me!"
It must be that the silver-haired woman killed the woman and threw her there to scare him. It must be!
