A dark core the size of large house moved around the center of the jellyfish's bell. It seemed to act as an eye for the beast, as it reacted to both Elliott and Nylon.
In front of them, a titanic size Phantom Jelly, with a tremendous amount of tentacles began to float above the two men, in an attempt to size them up.
It's bell was semi-transparent, enough to see inside. It had four long tentacles that acted as the main arms of the beast, and smaller tentacles on the inside of the bigger and larger ones.
The wavy pattern of its long tentacles made it look pretty harmless, but it was a corrupted beast. Nothing was harmless about it.
"That's a big jellyfish..."
Nylon gulped after seeing the beast's length, which looked around thirty to forty meters total.
"It won't go as easily as our previous friend, this one is completely awakened, and it's smart enough to not move past the barrier. The storm won't be helping us this time."
Elliott said, his eyes dead set on the free floating jellyfish.
"How does it even do that? How can it float in the air like that?"
"Magic. Look carefully, and you'll see."
With a small nod, Nylon frowned and squinted his eyes.
'I don't see any trace of magic though?'
He looked very carefully, before finally noticing a spark of light inside the jellyfish's bell.
"Is that... fire?"
"It is exactly that. It's using fire magic to transform itself into a balloon at regular interval."
After confirming Nylon's observation, Elliott crouched and slashed his sword forward, slashing a fireball that came toward him.
"That's why, we will have to be extremely careful of it. Fire magic can be devastating if you aren't careful."
The fireball, split in two, vanished behind him. The Phantom Jelly fluttered in the air before lunging downward.
"Here it comes!"
Nylon exclaimed before running away from Elliott. The two went separate ways in a attempt to divide its attention, but this beast had ways to attack both at the same time.
A barrage of fire bullets went toward Nylon, while two of the four long tentacles tried to squash Elliott in-between them.
'Oh no you won't.'
Elliott stabbed Vanitas into the ground, and stepped on the hilt, launching himself a few meters into the air.
The tentacles tried to follow him, but he was slightly faster than them, and fell to the ground before they could touch him.
He ran to his sword, grabbed it, and sent a light slash toward the left tentacle, slicing a part of it. He glanced at Nylon after that, weighting in his mind if he had to help or ignore him.
A smile formed on his face when he saw the man dodge the fire bullets safely, without letting a single one even graze him. His movements were very fast and precise, worthy of a beastman trained by the 'Savior' of his kind.
With nimble steps, he even managed to move forward instead of taking a defensive stance. His iron claws strapped at his wrists, he took a fighting stance, and slashed the last bullet, just like Elliott did previously.
'I guess he will be fine. Oops-'
Elliott jumped out of the way of a slamming tentacle and slid in the snow.
'I shouldn't get distracted. I have a pretty tough opponent in front of me.'
His focus returned on the jellyfish.
The two remaining tentacles flew toward him, followed by a few large fireballs. Nylon found himself dealing with the tentacle Elliott previously cut down, which had grew back rapidly as if it had never happened.
While Elliott did his best to dodge the attacks and deal some damage to the jellyfish, Nylon fought against the tentacle.
With incredible strength, Nylon endured a side slam from the tentacle as he was sent flying a few meters backward.
His feet touched the ground again, before sliding backward another meter in the snow.
'This is nothing! Father's punches were stronger than that!'
He gritted his teeth, and prepared himself for the next slam. This time, it was a downward slam, which intended to crush him on the spot.
The long tentacle rapidly met a resistance, as Nylon crossed his claws in an X-shape and growled.
"Grrrr!"
The impact made his knees buckle under the pressure, but he held strong.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"GRrrr-Haaaa!"
With everything he had, he pushed the tentacle back, and took this opportunity to stab it a few times.
But he knew that unless he destroyed the core, this wouldn't be enough to kill the damn thing.
So he waited for another opportunity. One he could use to attack the jellyfish's core.
"Elliott! Is this thing poisonous?"
He shouted to the man, who was dealing with attacks made to completely overwhelm him.
"It shouldn't be!"
With the little bit of leeway he had, he answered Nylon's question as he roll in the snow to dodge a fireball, and defend himself against a tentacle that he slashed in half in a split second.
'Great. If it isn't poisonous, then...'
Nylon waited until the next tentacle slam arrived.
He jumped over it with his beastman reflexes, and landed back on the ground. Using that little move to judge the timing, he nodded.
'Alright, this should be doable. I just have to jump on the next tentacle.'
His plan ready, he observed the jellyfish, who went for another attack. Nylon stepped forward and braced himself.
"Wha-!"
But the enemy wasn't going to simply give him what he wanted. As he stepped forward, Nylon hurriedly retracted his foot toward him and jumped backward.
The moment he jumped, a pillar of flame erupted from the place he previously stood at, burning a few of his hair in the process.
'That was close! Shit, I can still feel the heat!'
Having missed his chance to deal with Nylon, the beast kept pummeling both of them from afar, tens of meters into the air.
It was very careful with its actions. Compared to other corrupted giants, he was one of the most fragile being with only one core.
Its best precaution was to avoid having its bell targeted.
Instinctively, it knew that the real threat was Elliott. That was why it threw everything at him. Nylon was secondary, but he was still a threat. That was why it tried to get ride of it with fire magic.
Since it had been an unsuccessful trap that couldn't be used a second time, it decided to go all in.
'Hmm?'
Nylon waited for another tentacle slam, but nothing happened.
'I was sure that another attack would follow that pillar of flame? What is happening?'
His gaze moved upward toward the main body of the jellyfish. Then, he realized the terrible situation he was in.
'This... might be bad!'
The Phantom Jelly had turned it's underside toward Nylon, and was accumulating fire. Elliott was still dealing with his own problems, so he had to protect himself against that new attack.
"Bring it on! I am the son of the beastman 'Savior', and the brother of an Agathion! I won't go down against a stupid jellyfish!"
His instincts told him that this was going to be a very powerful attack, but it also told him that this was his chance.
'Eh? Am I stupid? Why am I trying to take the hit head on?'
Then, a realization came to him that made him frown. Instead of enduring the attack, he thought of another yet another plan.
Nylon relaxed his body and bent his upper body backward slightly. One of his hand went past his side, while the other stayed in front of his chest. He bent one knee, and as his upper body dropped forward, the attack happened.
A massive fire beam erupted from the jellyfish's bell, rapidly traveling toward Nylon.
Its power was so brutal the beast was launched back in the air, also giving Elliott a moment to breathe.
The beam engulfed everything in its path, and crashed in the distance, melting all of the snow around it.
"Good try!"
Nylon's voice made the core of the jellyfish move toward him.
The core trembled violently when it noticed the beastman running toward it on one of its tentacle. They were both high in the air, yet Nylon was unfazed.
When the beam of fire was released, Nylon used his momentum to rapidly run forward. He hurriedly pierced a tentacle with his claws and held on tight as it got launched forward. After that, he climbed on top of it.
He effectively dodged the attack, and even got himself the opportunity he desired.
All that was left to do now was to destroy the core.
"Goodbye, stupid beast!"
With a wide slash, Nylon attacked the massive bell of the jellyfish in an attempt to create a path to the core.
"What?!"
The attack was repelled. The jellyfish transformed its body into a spiky ball, and forced Nylon to back up.
"Gah-!"
As he was pushed away, a tentacle slammed his side and threw him back down, right into the ground.
*Crash*
He landed close to Elliott, and as he picked himself up, he smiled.
"I should have know it wouldn't be this easy."
The two fighters were now back at square one. Or so it seemed.
"I have an idea. You've done quite a lot already, so let's finish this."
Elliott approached Nylon, only to stop next to him. Nylon could only see his back.
"Let's hear your idea."
...
"Sounds good. I just have to bait that attack again?"
"Yes."
They looked at each other, before nodding.
Nylon ran away from Elliott, while staying relatively close to him.
"Alright, why don't you get rid of me, stupid beast!"
Using a provocation that wouldn't work on the jellyfish, Nylon waited for the next attack.
The spikes on the Phantom Jelly's bell began to retract into the bell, before it returned to being a round shaped bell. Once done, it once again lunged downward, this time having Nylon as the main target.
It didn't took very well his attempt to break its core.
The four tentacles were thrown at him, with a few fireballs mixed in-between.
"Wait! That's a little too much!"
With barely any time to breathe, Nylon began to frantically defend himself.
Elliott supported him by cutting some of the tentacles down, and as more time passed, the jellyfish began to lose patience.
"I think it's coming!"
The jellyfish turned its underside toward Nylon again, readying itself to fire another fire beam.
"Not so fast."
With his sword in hand, Elliott stepped a few steps behind Nylon. He changed his grip on the sword, and held it over his shoulder like a spear.
The muscles on his arm began to bulge as he placed his right foot behind him. Right at that moment, Vanitas grew in size and became closer to a two-handed sword.
"Ready?"
He asked.
"I'm good to go."
"Then jump!"
As ordered, he jumped. Elliott threw Vanitas with everything he had, and as Nylon fell down thanks to the gravity, he perfectly stepped on the sword.
The speed at which the sword flew made the cold air hurt his face, but he endured it. Nylon saw the beast closing in faster and faster, as it was about to fire its attack.
When close enough, he jumped high above the Phantom Jelly. The core noticed him, but it was too late.
Vanitas continued on its trajectory and cancelled the fire beam. The resulting explosion stunned the beast for a moment, but Vanitas continued its unstoppable carnage. It ripped through the jellyfish's interior, managing to lodge itself into the dark core.
Though it was stuck, the core was still in one piece. Vanitas had lost too much momentum ripping its flesh.
"If I can't get inside, I just have to punch you!"
Nylon rapidly fell down on the beast. With the aid of gravity, he kicked the beast, who came crashing down on the ground below.
During the crash, Vanitas managed to slice the core in two, successfully ending the giant's life.
"I'm glad this thing is bouncy."
Said Nylon, on top of the dead jellyfish. He slid down and waited for Elliott to arrive.
"Vanitas, return."
The sword vanished from the inside of the beast, and reappeared inside its scabbard.
"Good job."
Elliott walked toward Nylon before lifting his fist.
"You too."
The two bumped their fists together and smiled to each other.
"Do you smell that burning?"
"Well, sorry about that."
As Elliott mocked Nylon for being subjected to the fire attacks of the Phantom Jelly, they both walked away after confirming the kill.
The next day, the storm had completely vanished from the area.
