"What do you mean?"
Orion's expression turned sour.
"You heard me."
Dramia crossed her arms, seemingly in a bad mood.
"No, I heard that part. I'm asking you to develop. What did you see?"
The unique ability to see someone's name and title was a privilege of fairies. The closer you were to the Tree of Life, the easier it was to learn these information.
"Oh, that."
Her face softened when she realized how on edge she was. She breathed in and out, before her sister took over.
"It's very simple, Orion. This little girl is a child between a Remnant and a human. We both will go as far as say that both her parents are... dead."
He slammed his fist on the table so forcefully he scared both of them.
"Are you telling me a Remnant died at the hands of humans?!"
His shoot was so loud everyone in the house heard it, surprising them, as this was the very first time Orion let anger out of his system.
'Impossible! Aren't they powerful enough to avoid something like this happening?!'
Seething, he cupped his face between his hands.
"What else?"
Dramia coughed to calm herself and her sister, and continued as if nothing happened.
"We know for sure, because she has the title of Remnant, and because she is half-human. How the Remnant title is past on is a mystery even to them, but it's not impossible if they have a inheritor."
"Maybe it is even an automatic feat, your guess is as good as us. We've discussed with Tiohr because you returned, and she doesn't know either."
Orion calmed his nerves, and looked at Dramia. Having obtained his full attention again, she continued.
"She said that either the child was a Remnant to begin with, or either she was an experiment. The problem came with her title."
Drania looked at her sister, and took over.
"The Remnant of Progress."
His brow twitched, reacting to that name.
"Is that even a concept? Are you saying that the world progresses?"
The sisters shook their head at the same time.
"Even Tiohr doesn't know. There are a lot of Remnants hiding in plain sight, bearing the various concepts of the world. Only the previous owner of the title could now what it means to be the Remnant of Progress."
"And since only one Remnant of a certain title can exist at a time... it means the first one died. That's what Tiohr came to believe."
Their expression wasn't very pretty. They knew it would be hard to tell Orion all of this after hearing from Amelia that children were his 'weak point'.
Now that this child was a Remnant, her life was changed forever.
The gears began to rotate in Orion's brain.
'Let's get an idea on how that works.'
'I'll help. Let's converse a little.'
Ego's voice that he hadn't heard in quite some time finally resurfaced.
'I'll be taking your offer then. About the previous Remnant of Progress.'
He closed his eyes, and immersed himself in his thoughts. The sisters knew not to bother him at that point, as usually, he came up with a good explanation enough to satisfy himself and others.
'That Remnant was probably not caring about anything other than said progress. We'll say that he was among humans, and that his main goal was to make other Remnants.'
Orion clearly pictured this situation.
'He found one human, man or woman, we don't know. It probably tried multiple times, but how he had to create a new life was unknown to it.'
'I believe it came from the same thought of creating a faction, yet different. Maybe it was arrogance, maybe kindness, it's a mystery. What we can say is that at some point, it succeeded.'
Ego reacted at this point, with pensive tone.
Enjoying this book? Seek out the original to ensure the author gets credit.
'So far, I'd say it makes sense. It's true that we don't have any records of Remnants, so it's only speculations at this point. But how do you explain its death? As I said, there's no record of even a conflict.'
Hearing that, the question turned around for a minute in his head.
'You might think it's a crazy thought, but this might be it.'
His eyes opened, very slowly, as he explained.
'What if the Remnant sacrificed a life each time it tried to create a child?'
'...'
'Sorry, that wasn't explain properly. It most likely sacrificed its own magical storage that acts as lives. Tiohr-nam explained that if you had at least two, you could revive, but had to replenish the massive amount of magic to make it possible again.'
'I see.'
Orion waited for Ego to process the idea.
'I see! No, this is definitely a possibility! The Remnant didn't knew how to create a being with another faction member, and tried with humans by sacrificing its magic energy! As it takes a very long time to replenish the storage, and maybe because it was impatient, it rushed and managed to 'birth' a girl at the cost of its last breath.'
'Orion... If what you said is true, this is indeed progress, but the cost was too steep of a price.'
He nodded.
'Leaving this little girl alone, she found herself adopted by Julian, while being treated harshly all this time. Her resilience held because of her status as a Remnant. If not, she would have died long ago.'
Clenching his fists, he looked at the sisters.
"Alright, I get the gist of what happened. You'll come with me later to Tiohr-nam. I'll explain our conclusion at that time."
"Our?"
Drania tilted her head in confusion.
Orion stayed quiet, and stood up from his chair. He still had a project to see through.
"You girls go and rest. I'm sorry for shouting earlier, it wasn't against you. I hope you can forgive me."
He scratch the back of his head, embarrassed.
"..."
"..."
'Orion apologized? Why?'
They didn't understand. It was perfectly normal for someone to sometimes lose their temper.
"S-Sure. It wasn't a big deal anyway."
With a 'hmpf' sound, Dramia returned to her stone cold demeanor and looked away while saying that.
'What a liar.'
Drania smiled, knowing that Orion's burst of anger affected her quite a bit. Though, she was the same.
"Don't worry, we understand. Let's play together later."
She smiled at Orion and waved at him.
"Of course."
He smiled back, before exiting his room.
"..."
Both sisters held hands, trembling.
'That was scary. But it had to be said.'
'Yes, even if we angered him.'
It took them a few minutes to calm down.
...
Orion went out of his house, leaving all of the previous events behind him.
Florian stayed behind to watch over the girl, as his army was still far from Lahro at this point. May followed Orion to help with the project, with Amelia and Karteira.
All four of them found a place where the project would be created, and that was on the opposite wall.
The Siren Sea, their house, and the Tree of Life of Horizon all were near the northern wall, so Orion decided to build this project near the southern wall.
So here they were, the tablet in hand. They brought along the white jewel, and the prisms in case they were needed.
Amelia began to read the new details that appeared where the previous question marks were.
Just like before, the long list of materials was written. Though, it was going to be a very simple building that would be finished in less than a few hours.
There was less work to do compared to the previous project, and less details to care for.
The project's blueprint looked like a pyramidal building but not quite, so the most important material was stone. Lots of stone. It also needed cement to make it sturdy.
It also needed glass for some reason.
Amelia, as usual, created the materials. Orion looked over the blueprints and looked in details at what was needed.
Karteira and May encouraged Amelia as much as they could while she was doing her best. Though, she wasn't even sweating at this point.
After an hour, everything was prepared.
"Everything's ready? Then let's go."
They all nodded at his words, as Orion clapped his hands together. A void vortex appeared that sucked the bricks and the cement into it, and warped them into places.
*Clank* *Clank*
A surreal sight happened for May, as a building thirty meters long began to be created by itself.
Four opening on each sides, steep walls, and a tip made of glass. The glass had its tip inside the building, leaving the roof flat.
At the center of the building was a large platform where a circular altar made of marble was.
In its very center was a large circular carving where an item could be placed. Around it were three other shapes carved into the rock.
Under the altar was many round notches, but no one had any ideas what for.
Finally, the tablet sent a new notice.
Orion turned to May and showed her the tablet.
"I have to use my fire?"
But when she asked that, and created a flame in her hand, the vortex appeared and sucked it, while also draining her of magic.
When satisfied, the vortex disappeared, leaving an exhausted May alone.
The void vortex appeared above the structure, and released the particles of magic it absorbed, bathing the building successfully.
Red lines began to course through the rocks, and into the altar, awakening it for the very first time.
"Now, all that's left is..."
Orion picked up the carefully wrapped white crystal, and May picked up the prisms. They then proceeded to place all of these on the altar.
"to place these, and the second project will be done."
*Clack*
The white jewel perfectly fit into the hole, while the three prisms were placed in their respective place around it.
*Bip*
Orion stared at the new task.
"How are we supposed to do that?"
His question was answered instantly.
The three elements inside him reacted, and just like what happened in the elemental realm, they went to the prisms.
Except that this time, they imbued them with their elements. The three prisms began to shine, making the white jewel shine brighter at the same time.
When enough magic was stored inside the prisms to replace their previous purity, a beam erupted from it toward the jewel in the center.
A more condensed beam flew straight toward the glass tip of the pyramid. When it touched it, it acted like a prism and reflected the beam in multiple direction above the structure, until a gate appeared.
With that, the path to the elemental realm was completed.
"Well... that was interesting."
Orion walked outside and stared at this new addition to this world.
Until Florian, walked next to him.
"Its a very interesting building, but I'm sorry, she woke up. Do you mind returning quickly?"
"Did she?"
Amelia said, worried.
"Then we need to go. We don't want to leave her alone for too long, even though Dramia and Drania might be with her."
Orion nodded to Karteira. He immediately created a portal to his house.
The four people having built the Shrine, and Florian, warped back to the house in a hurry.
