The next couple of days flew by. After Rev recovered, Ein went back to teaching him a different hand sign a day. Ein quickly ran out of thing to teach Rev as the days went on. Rev would spend the last 2 days of the boat trip eating and training. His Soure control had surpassed Ein's wildest expectations. Ein had never seen any cast arts an easily as Rev had. Ein thinks back to think that took him weeks to learn Rev had picked up in a couple's day. Finally, land was seen in the distance.
Rev looking out the window called out to Ein. "Land, I see land"
"We will probably hit land by mid day" Ein says.
"You really think so?" Rev asks.
Ein nodes his head. Rev could stand still as he passed the room back and forth. It had been so long sense he had stretched his legs. When the sun hit the center of the sky, the ship had docked. Rev for the first time left the room by Ein side. They waited in a tightly tucked line, Rev seeing the light at the end of the tunnel of people.
As they stepped out "The sun's so warm" Rev said.
"Welcome to Frayer city. Let go. We need to pick up some supplies from the city before we head off tomorrow."
As they walked through the city, Rev soon realized as he looked around. The city was so clean and the buildings all looked so well kept. As Rev followed beside Ein, he scanned the crowd. The people were all glowing.
"There...all elves" Rev mudder under his breath.
"Did you say something?" Ein asks while keeping his eye looking straight ahead.
"Everyone is an elf," Rev said, trying to keep his voice down.
Ein smiled "Don't worry, we will only be staying here for the night. It would be foolish to buy supplies and leave at night. The land ahead is more dangerous than you can image. It's important we set off at sunrise tomorrow as prepared as we can be," Ein tells Rev.
Rev lowers his gaze "ok" he says.
As Ein said, he and Rev travel the city picking up supplies for the long journey ahead. Making sure to eat a hardy meal for dinner. And check in at a hotel.
"Frayer is a popular beach side city that many elves travel to for what they call vacation. I personally don't understand it. But in simple term to city is home to many wealth elves, even some royal elves."
"Ive only seen builds this big in the inner city," Rev says.
Ein responds "Yes, after the elves concord the humans they took there the human plans for cities and started building them all over, but many I heard failed as their location where not ideal, so they ended up being abandoned by elves. We will be coming across one of those cities matter fact on our way to the mountain palace."
"So it's just an empty shell of a city?" Rev asks.
Ein pauses before speaking, "Well...not really." Ein looks around the room "We can talk about it later" Ein says.
"Ok" Rev says looking confuse by Eins sudden secrecy.
Rev and Ein both take a long, warm shower. The sun sets and Rev and Ein for the first time in a long time sleep on actual beds. They're both out with in minutes. Ein is well rested and awake early as can. He walks over to the window and sees the sun starting to rise over the mountains.
"Its time Rev. lead head out" Ein says with a great smile on his face
"Where?" Rev curled up in the sheets, still half asleep.
"Home Rev...Where going home," Ein says.
Ein walks over to Rev and gently takes the sheets off him. Then grabs his backpack and other supplies.
Rev's hair is look like a tumbleweed in shape. Ein hands him a present.
"Here Rev" Ein says.
Rev's eyes are still a little fuzz, but he makes out the gifts. fabric looks thin but is strong as can be. And its lines with a thick fur.
"when did you get this?" Rev asks.
Ein laughs, "I bought it yesterday when you weren't looking. I wanted it to be a surprise," Ein says as he smiles widely.
Rev puts takes his cloak off and puts on his new one. Its jet dark black color makes Rev look like a shade monster with this red eyes appearing to glow. Rev is smiling as the warmth of the cloak brings him a sense of security. They go to the lobby to try to check out of the hotel when they see a multiple officer escorting an elf out.
"It was a joke that's it A JOKE," the elf exclaimed.
"we already heard the tape. Stop fighting it," the officer says.
Ein walks over to the desk to check out. "some people have no respect," the elf at the desk muttered.
"Sorry, did i say something wrong? ," Ein asked.
"Oh, not you, sir. That elf over there was caught saying he could kill a royal when he was with his friends in his room." He says.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
"Oh, that's truly revolting, isn't it?" Ein says.
Rev glares at him, not convinced by Ein's act.
"When you're all set. Let the royal bless you on your travels," he says.
"Thanks you" Ein says.
Once they're out of the commotion Rev speaks, "What was that about? " Rev says.
"The elves see the royals worship the royal as if they were gods," Ein says with discomfort in his voice.
"well at least they real-" Ein cuts him off. "Do not talk about what you are not knowledgeable about, child. The world's affairs have been going on much longer than you've been alive."
Eins' uncharacteristically heavy tone silences Rev. Rev pushes his cloak further forward, feeling the soft fur on this skin.
"Sorry," Rev whispers under his breath.
A faint smile comes across Ein's face "I will never not forgive you Rev. Be sure not to forget that"
Ein looks down at Rev and smiles. "Lets the real journey start now," Ein says as he points to the mountain in the distance.
Rev looks at the mountain, then Ein, then the mountain. "Dont tell me-"
"Yes, indeed Rev, we will actually be going past those mountains and traveling to the next one over." Ein says excitedly.
"Your crazy" Rev says.
"Maybe, but at least am happy," Ein says.
"Happy...ill be happy when I make them pay... then I can be at peace," Rev thinks to himself.
The journey that is ahead of these two travels is long and trivial. As miles of open plains and forest stand between them and the first mountain they will need to conquer. Let the first act begin. Rev looks side to side and then straight ahead at the mountain in the distances.
"Where are we are going to get water? Did you bring enough to get to the mountain? ," Rev asks.
Ein smiles "don't worry about such things Rev. I can make us water if thing get direr." Ein says.
"Make water, how?" Rev asks.
Ein smile grows bigger and Rev sign "glad you asked Rev. You see it could be superstition, but it's said that every person is born with an infinity for a certain type of casting. Mine is that of stone and earth. This doesn't mean I can't cast other elemental arts, but it is usually more difficult for me. This lead me into one of the main factors in casting. Source transformation, source can transform into nearly every nature element." Ein tells Rev.
"That blessed elf was shooting a water spear at me, and then there was that monster of ice he created. He did that all with the source," Rev asks.
"Yes, of course source was given to us as a gift from the twin gods and the power in comes with it, is the power of nature its self. That's why it's important we don't abuse that power. For all we know it could be taken away from us," Ein explains.
"Yeah, protect the weak in all that." Rev says "yeah if I kill that monster then he won't be able to hurt anyone else. I never thought about it but he's probably hurt other-" Rev thinks to himself.
"Good Rev glad to see your lessoning," Ein says.
The day is still young. They use this time to cover as much ground until mid day as the sun's heat will be deadly.
"Its so much warmer here" Rev say.
"Well, we are in a different part of the warm. It's much more humid here then your probably use to. Dont worry Rev push through and you'll go out the other side strong then before."
"Oh no I like it" Rev says.
Mid day then came around. Ein stopped and before Rev eyes could understand what was happening, Ein had created a stone cube. Ein walks over to the wall and punches a doorway out.
"ok lets take a break here. No need to exhaust ourself when we could save that energy to cover more land later." Ein says.
He then sets his backpack down and searches through it. Then hand Rev a barrel of water and two oranges.
"Thank you twin gods for the meal. We will not let any go to waste," Ein says.
They finish up eating.
"Ok Rev, I want you to tell me what you see when I cast this art," Ein says.
Ein flashes 3 hand signs, and a stone pillar appears. From Rev point of view, "I saw the source flow through your hands, then shoot down to the ground in a straight line and disappear. Then a picture appeared on the ground in front of you, made out of source. Then it rose up, leaving a copy of the picture. Before I know it, the stone pillar had appeared and I could no longer see any source." Rev tells Ein.
"I tell you the truth when I saw your blessing may overweight your curse. It's incredible what you can see Rev." Ein says with a soft smile.
"Thank you...I guess," Rev says with an unsure tone.
"Take no offence, for I mean none in my words," Ein says.
"OK... thank you," Rev says with more confidence than before.
Ein smiles. "lets practice Rev. I know how much you want to go all out so ill create targets for. This won't be a regular thing, so don't get carried away. We still need to save energy for the journey ahead."Ein says.
Revs crimson eyes light up as he steps outside. And see Ein behind him creating stone walls in front of each other.
"Ok Rev lets how many walls you can pierce," Ein says as he draws an X on the middle of the wall.
Rev prepares himself. He's been waiting for this for the last two weeks. He steady his breath and gradually increases its tempo.
BAAAAANNNG!!
Rev shoots out a full power shock beam that pierces a wall half a foot thick and creates a divot in the wall behind it. And send him flying onto his back.
"Are you ok?" Ein yells out
"Lets go again" Rev says excitedly
Rev charges up again then releases a full power wind spear.
SSSHHHROOOOM!!
The spear cleanly pierces 2 walls and makes a chip to the third. The shock on Rev's shoulder causes a brief flash of pain, but nothing Rev can't handle.
"That was crazy..." Rev says under his breath.
"Ok that's it. We don't want to waste too much energy," Ein says signaling Rev to come back.
Rev walks back to Eins' side with the sun now not directly above them. The heat is less of a problem, but the air still feels thick. Revs breath is heaver, but his cloak stays on. It seems the casting of the arts has tired him out far more than any of the heat that day. Ein on the other hand was Sweating an ocean.
"Are you ok wearing that cloak Rev?," Ein asked.
"Am fine, I'd worry about yourself for once," Rev says as he trails ahead of Ein.
"That kid is crazy," Ein thinks to himself.
Finally, the sun begins to set and Ein set up a stone house in the middle of the plains the forest is still miles away at the base of the mountains in the distance. Rev pulls out two mats and lay them down. Then gets out plates and a giant piece of salami and cheese that has partly melted. Finally he gets out hard crunchy bread.
"Well, that's dinner for tonight. Thank you twin gods for the meal. We won't let any of it go to waste." Ein says.
Rev looks never thought about it but he looks at the meal then looks at Ein.
"this is plenty for me but how does it feed someone of your size?" Rev asks.
Ein laughs "Cyclops and elf diets are very different even tho my size is mush larger than any elf us cyclops have practice fasting sense the begging of are existences. This practice has brought us many blessing from the twin gods and through the hard work and faith of my ancienter, the twin gods have blessed cyclops with the ability to get most are fed from the source in our bodies. The purest food you can eat. That doesn mean we don't need to eat, but it does mean food packed with source goes a long way for us."
Rev looks confused. "How is that even possible? "
"The impossible is made possible with the twin gods by your side," Ein says proudly.
Rev doesn't look convinced but doesn't full reject the idea. Once they ate their meal, it was time for bed and the mat they were sleeping on where polar opposites of what they had slept on the previous night. Not a problem as both Rev and Ein were far too tired to complain and for soon fast a sleep.
