Chapter 16

“Rev….” Ein gets on one knee to meet him eye to eye.

“You poor child…” Ein hugs Rev.

Rev is resistant his eyes flare up, but they are soon extinguished. Ein feels Rev’s heart beat like a beast trying to escape a cage.

“Rev…hatred will only bring you more pain. Is that what you want Rev? Tell me Rev what does your heart desires.” Ein whispers.

The tears start running down Rev’s face. “I….I want to make them pay for what they did. I want them to know the pain they caused me. I…I….I…I want to know why….why me…what did I do…why…why did I live?” Rev’s voice becomes steady.

“I am not the one to ask. Take a knee Rev and grab her hands together. Let us pray.”Ein tells Rev.

Rev drops to his knees and brings his hands together. “Call out to them Rev and have faith in their answer.” Ein says.

“TWIN GODS…HEAR ME…please…tell me…what is your plan for me?” Rev yells out.

Ein smiles “Good Rev, let it all out. Give all your pain and suffering to them. Release it Rev release it all”.

“WWWWWHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY….WHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHYWHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHYWHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHYWHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHYWHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHYWHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHYWHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHYWHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHYWHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHYWHY.WHY.WHY.WHY.WHY!!.” Rev screams, riling the beast in his heart.

Ein holds his tight “How do you feel Rev?” Ein whispers into his hearing.

Rev hesitates, then hugs him back. “I feel…nothing”

Ein signs and lets Rev go and looks him in the eye. “As long as you have faith, the answer will find its way to you.”

“…Ok…I’ll try” Rev says.

Ein smile widens, expelling warmth that is contagious. “That’s all we can really do, isn’t it? We just have to try.”

A faint smile appears on Rev’s face.

-Day 21 of the jungle.

The day was silent a first until Rev broke it.

“Have you ever had hated someone?” Rev asks.

“Yes. Yes I have and to be fully honest Rev. The twin gods teach to forgive those who are flawed, for no one is perfect. They teach that those people are the ones that need the most help. Having that said…I am flawed and of that I can not bring myself to forgive that….monster. You can’t save those who don’t believe they need saving. And that…is truly saddening.” Ein tells Rev, his hands clenched.

Rev is hesitant. “What did the monster do?” he asks.

Ein signs “They committed a sin that can not be forgiven…He claimed to be God…But he is nothing more than a prideful fool.” Ein’s hand clenches harder. The veins in his arms pop out.

Rev looks confused, but seeing how Ein is responding. He chooses to keep his mouth shut. The day was full of thought. Rev waiting for his answer and Ein looking back to the past. “Maybe if we had met sooner, things could have been different…I mean look at Rev. Could he of turned out the same? I Wish I know him better. What leads him down such a dark path .____ where are now…” Ein thinks to himself.

-Day 22 of the jungle.

Rev and Ein traveled far this day. Rev spotted new creatures along the way.

“Look, Ein, that bush has legs.” Rev tells Ein.

Ein gets a closer look “Yes Rev, that creature is called bushling. They are harmless creatures.”

Rev reaches out to touch it, but it quickly runs away. Rev glares into the distances tracking the bushling. He then turns back to follow Ein. Rev grows interested in the creatures of the jungle. Watching how different they move. How scared some of them truly are. He can see it in their eyes. They're just trying to survive like he is. Rev had never thought of it like that before. Survive through violences is all these creatures have ever known.

-Day 23 of the jungle.

It seems that all previous tension has been washed away. Rev views have started to shift. He has prayed repetitively for an answer.

“You faith must be from the heart Rev. The twin gods know when you are being untruthful, so there’s no point in lying to them or pretending like you have faith. Just keep trying day by day like you have been.” Ein tells Rev.

“Ok,” Rev says in a determined tone of voice.

-Day 24 of the jungle.

Rev and Ein have started doing morning prayers and prayers before bed.

“We thank you for this new beautiful day. We are blessed for we draw breath.” Ein says.

“We pray that you protect us in our sleep and for our bodies to be recovered in the morning.” Rev prays.

-Day 25 of the jungle.

This was a day focuses on training. Rev would fly his kite more comfortably without the string. His mind is no longer clouded. His source control has vastly increased. Now being able to create 85 exits in total with both hands. His casting speed had increased as well.

“Well done Rev. These stone walls look to be almost identical.” Ein tells Rev.

Rev shoots the source mist onto the wall and rips the wall in half. Rev smiles, the fire in his eyes glows bright.

-Day 26 for the jungle

The cloud where dark and thick that day. The stormed that followed did not disappoint. That didn’t stop Rev and Ein from coving more land. Rev flew his kite over his head to keep him dry. He had hated the rain before, but now is holding no power over him. As Rev scanned the jungle, he spotted a bushling. He stopped and went out to touch it. Surprisingly, I didn’t run like the last one did.

Rev smiles “You don’t like the rain either do you” he says.

Rev then creates a small stone shelter. The bushling run into it and shakes its self dry. Ein turns back to see what Rev is doing. What Ein sees warms his heart. “No, he nothing like him…I’ll make sure of it,” Ein thinks to himself.

-Day 27 of the jungle.

The rain stopped the night before, but the jungle remained soaked. The uneven floor cause numerous puddles to form. Rev watches his every step, making sure not to get wet. Rev looks up to see a tread in front of his face. He stops and looks around.

“what wrong Rev why’d you stop? Do you want me to be in front again?” Ein asks.

Rev scans around them, the raindrops glistening in the sunlight.

“Strings…we are surrounded by strings…” Rev tells Ein.

Ein takes a closer look than touches the string. It's sticky. “It seems we have stumbled on a stringer nest,” Ein says.

Rev gives Ein a confused look. “And what does that mean?” Rev asks.

Ein laughs. “A stringer is a small creature that glides through the air and releases the string attaching it from tree to tree. It's a trap of sorts meant to catch smaller creature. From the look of it, we have stumbled on a big family of them. Quite an impressive web they have created. Nothing we can’t work around. Follow me,” Ein tells Rev.

“Ok if you say so” Rev says follow after Ein.

Ein leads Rev around the large stringer nest. Rev observing the pattern that the string creates. He feels them and runs source through them like he did the kite. As the source travels, he sees the pattern more clearly.

“Woah” Rev expresses.

“Come on Rev in the nest end up a head we can get back on track.” Ein tells Rev.

Rev quickly pulls the source back to him and catches up to Ein.

-Day 28 of the jungle.

Today was a training day. Ein and Rev covered the land they wanted to cover, then settled down around mid day and Ein set up targets.

“I want to use your source to rip a piece of stone off this stone wall, then shoot them off towards the targets.” Ein instructs Rev.

Rev nods his head and focuses. He propels the source mist to the wall behind him, then sends them flying at the targets, hitting 3 out of 5 of them.

“Well done, Rev,” Ein tells him.

Rev goes again, now hitting the last two targets.

Ein nods in approval. “Good, now that you're getting more conformable releasing source from many exits, you should be able to multi cast quite well.” Ein tells Rev.

“Yes, it has been much easies i can almost cast the wind luncher and stone spear at the same time.” Rev tells Ein.

“Very impressive, But I want to focus on how it could help your mobility. For example, cast creating multiple wind charges, then shooting them down to the bottom of your feet. While creating a stone wall in front of you all at the same time.” Ein tells Rev.

Rev nodes his head. He charges up some wind blast. “Ok am going to shoot weak wind charges at you. Do your best to dodge, and if you think you can’t, then create a stone wall.” Ein says.

Rev starts to dash around, dodging the wind blast. Ein starts to shoot more and more. Rev, forced by the wind blast, uses his wind charges to boost himself out of the way while also dashing to make smaller movements. Rev uses the trees as cover as he dashes around. He also uses the trees to boost off of. Rev looks around for Ein.

“There…” Rev whispers.

Ten wind charges are coming towards him. He creates a stone wall in front of him.

“Well done Rev. Some things are too big to be netted. This is where having a stone wall can be very helpful. You could also cast a stone wall, then a source net as 2 layers of defense.” Ein says.

-Day 29 of the jungle.

Rev and Ein had come across another troll, but this one didn’t seem to be aggressive. Rev’s kite training has been going very well, being able to control it almost passively. Rev has also started pulling in the source from all round him. In the thick source pool that is a jungle, it's not a bad way to restore some source. This was a day of long traveling. So Rev started asking questions again.

“Ein, that monster you talked about. Where will they go when they die? You told me if I have faith i can reach the beyond, but where do those who don’t have faith go when they die?” Rev asks.

“It is said that those who are oblivious will be erased when they die. Those who die with faith in their heart will reach the beyond. And those who die knowing faith and choosing to reject it. Well, those people will face eternal torment for their sins. There is no elaboration, just eternal torment.” Ein tells Rev.

“Oh…so the monster will get what he deserves when they finally die,” Rev says.

“That means whoever killed my family will be punished in the end…” Rev thinks to himself.

Ein puts on a smile “Yeah…when he dies” Ein’s tone is unconfident.

Rev looks at Ein. "What’s wrong? Do you not think he will face punishment? I thought you said he committed an unforgivable sin,” Rev asks.

“It's not that child. The monster I speak of will face his punishment, But when I don’t know if it will be before our after my death.” Ein says.

Ein’s word drain Rev of joy. “Ein…dying” Rev thinks.

“Don’t look so down, child am sure my death will be honorable. Blessed are those who die so others may live.” Ein tells Rev.

Ein’s words do not bring Rev any reassurement. Ein can see it on Rev's face.

“Think about it like this. If I die with faith in my heart, then ill be waiting for you in the beyond. Then it will be up to you to meet me there. But be warned pointless sacrifice should not be sought out,” Ein tells Rev.

The day goes on with Ein’s words flouting around in Rev's mind. Meet him in the beyond. “I have to take my faith more seriously,” Rev thinks to himself. Rev prays throughout the rest of the day.

“Thank you twin gods for our safe travels,” Rev says.

“Thank you twin gods for this meal. We will not let any go to wast” Rev says.

“We pray for safety in our sleep and that our bodies may also recover any damages of the day” Rev says.

-Day 30 of the jungle.

This day marks a month. One of 5 that Ein predicted it would take to reach the mountain palace. The day was like any other. A training day. Rev had reached his goal of 100 exits to properly make source mist.

“Well done, Rev. Now you can create source mist around you, pulling it in very slowly. This source mist around you will let you detect any danger that is in the area of effect. The bigger you make the source mist area, the less dense it will become and less effective. Also making it harder to pull in so you risk losing some source in the process. This is one of the way I can detect danger around me along with instincts I've built up over time.” Ein tells Rev.

Rev gives Ein a look. "So that’s how you’ve been doing it,” Rev says.

Ein laughs. “I wanted it to be a surprise. I didn’t look like you need any more motivation to reach your goal either, but to now that you hit 100 you should create a new goal. 100 is good, but it can always be better. Never stop trying to improve Rev,” Ein tells Rev.

Rev smiles “Fine, but i have a different goal in mind.”
