Ein walks after Rev, then Rev stops.
“Theres…light everywhere” Rev says.
“Yes, be weary Rev in this place it safe to assume everything wants to kill you,” Ein tells Rev.
“No…that's not it, the lights…the source it’s in the air its self. I can see it Ein i can see it all around us.” Rev tells Ein.
“Oh…I see. Remember when I told you different place have different amounts of source in them. Well, Rev, the jungle is probably one of the most highly concentrated source environments out there. This nature influx in source that pile up here is what causes the creatures to adapt over time and be able to use basic source arts like wind blast. That does seem to be the extent of their art casting capabilities, but as i said before, lower arts in the rights hand can be deadly.” Ein tells Rev.
Rev's eyes ignite at the sight of it all. He presses his hand against the massive trees and pulls the source with in it towards him.
“Woah”
They travel deeper into the jungle. In countering many Barrows along the way. It was safe to say food would be the least of the issues in a place like this. Rev’s eyes had never been so active. It’s different from the forest. In the forest it was easy to spot things out, but here there’s so much source just in the air that it's hard to tell if that's really around you. Rev eyes are focus to create a filter of sorts, but it won’t be easy.
“Are you ok?” Ein asks, seeing the overwhelmed look on Rev’s face.
“Am fine…its just a lot,” Rev responds.
“I can’t image what those eyes of your could be seeing right now,” Ein tells Rev.
Rev pauses for a moment and looks around. “I feel like there’s a little bit of snow in my eyes. Everywhere I look has a fuzzy white look to it," Rev says.
Never the less Rev and Ein still push on. Plantation and overgrown roots that come out of the ground cover the jungle floor. Rev looks up, but is unable to see the sky above. There's to many trees on the way. The further they go in, the darker it gets. The only light they have is the small glimmer of sunlight that pierces through the top of the trees above. Despite that, the jungle environment is still quite warm. This is something Rev enjoys greatly, Ein on the other hand is sweating and his breath draws heavy with every step.
"Stop..." Ein says.
Rev looks around. "What is it?" He asks.
...WHO
"DUCK!" Rev says, trying to pull Ein's head down.
OOOOOOSH!!
The trees behind them blow back, still stuck by the roots.
"What was that...it seemed stronger than a Barrow" Rev asks Ein.
"Hard to tell, but in all honesty, it seems to be far. Lets run" Ein says.
Rev's tingling "....Fine" He says reluctantly.
Rev follows after Ein. "How did you know there was an attack coming?" Rev asks.
Ein chuckles "Well, this old man in his younger years used to play in jungles like this. That was when i traveled the world for my whole self ambitions. I thought I was free back then, but it was an illusion. No one can be free if not blessed by the twin gods themselves.
Rev looks at Ein blankly, "So...how did you know the attack was coming?" Rev asks again.
Ein sees the expression on Rev's face and laughs. "Sorry child, it seems I got distracted in my answer. I didn't know the attack was coming, but I believed there could be one. It was purely instincts built up over many years." Ein responds..
Rev looks up at Ein with an unsure expression on his face. "By the time I heard the attack, it was almost too late. Does that mean Ein knows the other attacks in the forest before where coming before I did. ," Rev thinks to himself while glaring at Ein. Ein looks back at him and smiles.
"Something wrong?" Ein asks.
"Um...if you know that attack was coming before i did. Does that mean you also knew the attacks in the forest were coming before I did? " Rev asks.
"Yes, for the most part, but there were some that surprised even me at times. Why do you ask?" Ein says.
"Then why did you wait for me to tell you it's coming..." Rev asks as he thinks back.
Ein laughs "Why the long face child? It was for you own good. I didn't want you to depend on me for something you could do for yourself. I said I would make you strong. Strong enough to protect those who can't protect themself. To achieve that, you must be more than confidence in your ability. I won't always be around to help you when you fall short. The only dependences you should have is on the twin gods themselves." Ein explains.
"..." Rev is silent but seems to be more calm than before.
You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author.
The first week was a big adjustment period. Rev and Ein had faced a hundred attacks by now. Rev has noticed that pattern. A beast will attack from range and if they miss most of the time, they won't chase after them. "maybe there saving their energy," Rev thinks.
Ein sees Rev's puzzled expression "Something on your mind Rev?" Ein asks.
"Oh...well it's just that the beasts that attack us never really chase after us," Rev says.
"Well Rev in the jungle this packed with animals. It's easier to wait for another animal to come along than it is to chase after another one. You've seen how strange the terrain can be here." Ein responds.
"guess that makes sense," Rev says.
Other than the concent attacks, the jungle has been fun to explore. Rev has climbed the biggest trees and works on his source control again. He has also started working on creating his own stone shelter, wall by wall.
"Good Rev, but you see how this wall is thinner than this one," Ein asks.
Rev looks at the two walls. "Yeah, is it?" Rev responds.
"This happens because you're giving more or less source to these walls. You need to try to master how much source you put into an art so you can put as close to nearly the same exact source for arts like this. Precision is key. This training will be important when you learn to cast higher arts and even great arts," Ein explains.
Rev nods his head and tries to cast two similar walls. Focusing heavily on how much source he puts into them. His source control has gotten better, but there is much to improve. Rev would also climb the tops of trees to fly his kite around. Ein anxiety would spike at times, but his confidences in Rev only grow.
"LOOK EIN LOOK" Rev calls out to Ein.
Ein looks up through the trees "WELL DONE CHILD" he calls back.
Ein might not be able to fully see what Rev did, but seeing that smile on Rev's face was more than enough. The nights in the jungle were not as cold, but more over noise. This was one noisy. Even tho Rev was from a city, the noise of the jungle was different. He and Ein always need to be on high alert. It was as if half the creatures in the jungle don't sleep.
Rev woke up from another bad sleep. "Am going to kill those-"
"Rev..." Ein interjects.
"Sorry..." Rev says.
Ein smiles, "Don't let angry guide your actions," Ein says.
Rev rolled his eyes and got up.
"Am going to fly my kite" Rev tells Ein.
"Ok...be carful-"
"I'll be fine old man," Rev says.
Ein signs and watches Rev leave the shelter. "Well, I guess I should make breakfast," Ein thinks. He searches in his bag. "I can use these bird eggs we gathered. If only we had some bread," Ein thinks.
"REV! food is ready," Ein calls out.
Rev jumps down from the branches of the trees. He has gotten much more comfortable in the jungle terrain.
"Thank you twin gods for the meal. We won't let any of it go to waste," Rev prays.
Rev and Ein dig in to their meal. Then continue the journey.
"When do you think we will make it to the mountain palace?" Rev asks.
"Well, we are heading towards Morton city first. There's someone there id like you to meet," Ein says.
"Who?" Rev asks.
"An old friend," Ein responds.
Rev gives a blank stare. "Tring to understand what you say sometimes is harder than figuring out a new art," Rev says sarcastically.
Ein laughs "Soon my word will be clear" Ein tells Rev.
This was the first week summarized. The next would be full of a great advancement.
- day 9 of the jungle
It was a cloudy day. As so it began to rain. Rev created a stone shelter. Still not perfect but improved from before. Ein sits in the corner, unable to stand due to its smaller size.
"Sorry, it's a bit small for you, isn't it?" Rev says.
"Yes, but other than that, it's pretty stable, it seems." Ein says.
Rev smiles, then looks out at the rain. As the rain pours down from the top of the trees. Rev thinks back to what Ein did with the snow. He reaches his hand out to the rain and tries his hand at a mist of source. It doesn't look anything how Rev remembers Ein's looking.
Rev turns back to Ein. "Ein, how do I make my source come out like yours when you covered the snow before?" Rev asks.
Ein extends his hand "You can see the flow of my source Rev, so just pay close attention. I don't realise my source from one point or else it will clump together. So instead i split the flow of my source a hundred times across my palm. Try not to release more than 2 pieces of source at once through one exit. This should be easy for you as you can see the source come out. Someone like me has to feel it out." Ein explains.
Rev nods his head then switches focus to his hand. He runs source through it then tries to split it. He only manages ten different paths. Not nearly enough. The source still clumps up, as Ein had said. Rev pulls the source in and tries again and again and again and again and again.
Ein sees Revs fixation turn to frustration. "Rev, how about you work towards smaller goals? Like creating 25 different exits and so on. If you can't reach the smaller goals, then there's no point in beating yourself up for not being able to reach the end goal." Ein tells Rev..
"...Ok" Rev says sounding partially defeated.
- day 11 of the jungle
Rev still hasn't been able to make more than 50 exist, but he has greatly improved sense before. This training has helped in other areas such as his kite flying with being able to more precisely with his movements from a farther range. Even though Rev and Ein are still attacked frequently, they've almost become accustomed to it.
- day 14 of the jungle
It has officially been two weeks. Rev has grown more patent with his progression through Ein's words.
"Pushing yourself is good, but there's a point where you become inefficient in your work. We must stay health Rev or else what would be the point of it all if our reason to live is what causes our death?" Ein tells Rev.
Rev doesn't fully understand Ein's words, but nods his head. The seed has been planted in his mind. Only time will tell if it grows or not. Rev follows after Ein, but begins to be lost in thought. Rev suddenly stops as Ein does. Rev does not hesitate to shoot a piercing wind spear into the bushes.
SHROOM!!
"Did you get-" Ein grabs Rev and goes to the ground.
A tree log comes flying by in that same moment.
"could it be...it's a TROLL," Ein calls out.
Rev gets up from Ein and scans the forest.
"I see it...it's coming this way," Rev says.
"its to late. It's already mad at us SHOOT REV. Use what you must," Ein calls out.
Rev eyes ignite, the crimson glows bright. "Ive been waiting for this," Rev whispers to himself.
Rev tracks the troll's movements waiting for it to get close. Waiting for it to show its self. Rev brings his hand together. He has been working on this for a while. The creation of the stone spear. By creating a stone rectangle, then a cutting the art in half to make a stone triangle. He then flattening it to create a spear heads sharp point. Finally...
"3...2....1"
Rev cast a wind the luncher for the wind spear but instead off a wind charge its the stone spear being shot out of it.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!!
Rev controls the spear, weaving it through the tree, then right through the troll's head.
"I GOT IT" Rev yells.
"Well done...I've never had a troll attack me first. What strange behavior... well, I've never tasted troll meat, either. Should we see how it tastes?" Ein asks Rev.
Revs high light up more "Yeah" he says.
They sit around a small fire that Rev turns into a raging fire.
"Thank you twin gods for the meal. We will not let any of it go to waste," Ein says.
That night, Eins and Rev's stomachs were more than full. What will the third week have in store for these travelers?
