Ein wakes up before Rev. Ein looks over at Rev sound asleep, Ein chooses to not disturb him and silently leave to get breakfast. By the time Ein returns to the room, Rev is awake, staring out the window to the vast ocean ahead.
“I got breakfast Rev,” Ein says.
Rev doesn’t turn around.
“Rev are you ok?” Ein asks.
Rev finally turns around.
“When will we get there?” Rev asks
“Well, I’d says it still be about a week and a half before we see land,” Ein responds.
Ein steps closer, closing the door behind him and handing Rev the plate of food.
Rev takes the plate. "Thank you twin gods for the meal,” Rev says.
Ein smile “we will not waste a drop” Ein says as he and Rev dig in to their meals.
After breakfast, it's back to training.
“Ok Rev we will be focussing practising the fundamental along with some basic hand sign learning.” Ein tells Rev.
Rev nodes his head. They run through the basic again. Ein having Rev repeat what he had done the day before moving the source around his body. Then leans more into having him move it rapidly through his hands.
“Alright Rev, now that we are warmed up, we can expand on what we already know. We can control the source in our body, but that alone isn’t enough to cast higher to legendary arts. Those require the extra steps of hand signs. Now what hand signs are is the signification of a switch on what part of the art you're working on. Like I said before, think of casting an art as trying to replicate a painting. With more complicated arts, the painting becomes too complicated to paint all at once. You need to break it down into a section. Hand signs sigint what section you're working on. With mild arts, there could be 1-2 section, but with great and legendary, there could be 10-20 different section. Having said that, there is usually no specific order you have to go in.”
Rev thinks back to see Thomas use different hands signs in his fight with him. His hands moved so fast he could barely make out what signs he was making.
“I wish I had a book with all the different signs, but we don’t have the luxury of those resources. Ill try my best to teach you all I know. It's ok we can start basic. A simple upgrade you your wind blast. Bring your hand side by side and lower your pointer fingers to your palm and then ping them by tucking your them on top of them. End it off by fanning the rest of your fingers and charge up multiple small wind blasts like yesterday at your pointer finger, then shoot them out your fanned out fingers”
Rev tries to follow Ein’s instructions, but ends up shooting wind blast out of his fanned out a finger at different times.
“Like that?” Rev asks.
“Almost. Try to shoot them out at the same time.” Ein responds.
Rev steady his breath then increases its tempo. He charges up the wind blast, the shoot them out his finger. The result is a creation of a fan like image appearing in front of Rev for a split second before a wide spread shock wave that pushed rev back slightly.
“Good job Rev, now try to curl your fanned out finger towards your pointer finger.” Ein tells Rev.
Rev does as he had done before steading his breath then increasing its tempo. This time when he shoots the wind blast from his fingers, the shock wave isn’t as widespread. It shoots out in a tight beam like a shot that pushed Rev back much further than before.
“Great job Rev, like i told you before, even mild arts with enough power can be deadly in the right hands. If you where to use full power wind blast at the tip of each finger you can image how strong the attack could be, but as always we must practice restraint as we are still on board ship with many other passengers.”
“Ok, but are you sure I can't cast a full power shot out the window?” Rev asks intently.
Ein looks at Rev. “No Rev, you can not. The sound alone would bring unwanted attention to us”
Rev looks down and signs, “Fine, so I won't be able to go out until we make it to land?”
“Exaclly Rev, don't be fooled either Rev going all out could in times can damage the caster more than who there casting against. You noticed that you were pushed back halfway across the room, even when you were holding back. You can image how far it would blast you back if you went full power. And pushing your self back is a pretty small cost. There are other arts that have more extreme consequences.”
“Ok ok I get it” Rev says.
“Its important to learn restraint Rev. I promised to make you stronger so that you could protect the weak, not so you could run ramped with power. Do you understand me Rev” Ein voice is stern and unwavering.
Rev glares up at Ein through his tangled hair “Yes I understand”
“Ill be making the world a safer place by killing that freak,” Rev thinks to himself.
Ein recomposed himself “alright let continue”
The tension between Rev and Ein is present for the rest of the session. That dinner was dead silent as Rev faced the window the whole time. Ein wants to understand Rev, but he's not making it easy. They finish the day with the basic source control. Ein goes to bed that night, hoping this whole thing will blow over in the morning. Sadly, it's not that simple. The next day was nothing but the same with Rev talking less and less. Until dinner came around that day.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“Rev am not giving you your food until you say your thanks.” Eins is staring down at Rev.
Rev signs, “Why should I thank them they didn’t catch or cook the food? They havn’t helped me in any way”
Ein is stunned at Rev boldness “How dare you-”
Rev cuts Ein off“No how dare you. You said it yourself am a cursed child”
Ein calms himself. "I did say that, and I'm speaking the truth. But I'm also telling the truth when I say the twin gods, if you would only allow yourself to see the bigger picture, can save even you."
Rev is quick to respond “twin gods, this twin gods that. you say they gave people's vision but who’s saying there not lying, huh? Have you ever had a vision, Ein? how do you know you're not devoting your life a selfless trash?”
Ein is silent as he thinks to himself. “Rev, am just trying to help you. That all. I want to be able to meet you in the next life Rev. Do you think I don't fear death? Do you think I’ve never questioned the teachings of the twin gods? Rev…” Ein is hesitant to continue.
Rev looks up at Ein. The malice in his eyes has faded and curiosity has taken over.
“what is it?” Rev asks
“Nothing you should be concerned about. Let just eat,” Ein says
Rev isn't convinced but plays along “Fine”
“Thank you twin gods for the meal. We will not let it go to waste,” Ein says, his voice seems to be wavering.
Ein and Rev finish their food, which helps them both cool off. “alright let continue the lesson for today. I’ll teach you another hand sign. This one will only require one hand. Thumb tucked against the palm. Pointer and middle finger together and ring and pinky together now increase the space between your middle and ring finger. I want you to split your Soure 40% on each par of finger, then 20% at your thumb. I want to to do as I do, create a flat loop on each pair of finger. Make sure you have one flowing clock and counter clock wise each. Now increase the speed and charge a small wind blast at your thumb, then simple shoot it between your to loops.”
Rev does as he’s told, and the picture he creates is unfamiliar, but it's clear that the charged wind blast is launched at high speeds when it hits the loops.
PEEEW!
“did you see it Rev?” Ein asks
“No” Rev resound
“try to focus on what happens to the charged wind blast as it hits the loops,” Ein tells Rev.
“Ok” Rev says
Rev attempts the art again, focuses his eyes the most he can
“Shoot” Ein says
Rev lets the wind charge go. As he watches closely, he sees the wind charge be stretched out looking as it was a small spear.
“Tell me what you saw,” Ein says
"Rev says, 'The wind charge was stretched out like a small spear.'"
“Yes, that's right. If you were to use a full power, charge the spear would grow bigger. You can also have multiple wind charge lined up in your four arm. But with a few shoot you will need to restore the strength of the two loops or it will lose its strength as there is some source ripped off the loop as the charge is shoot between them.”
Rev flips his hand around and charges up 3 small wind charges and shoots them out the window.
“Cool” Rev exclaims
“Call it what you want but what it is, is dangerous to don’t point that at anyone you don't intend to hurt”Ein tells Rev.
“Ok” Rev response
“I only intend to hurt one person in this world,” Rev thinks to himself.
“Ok Rev, let's go back to source control. You can never practice it too much, as it's the foundation for casting any art,” Ein explains.
Ein runs Rev more Source control training and lets I'm shoot some small wind spears out the window from time to time. Before they know it, the sun is setting and all the wind spear Rev had cast has gotten him tired out.
“You’ll need to make sure to eat well tomorrow Rev to restore as much source as possible. Depending on how you feel, we can cut back on casting to many arts tomorrow.” Ein tells Rev.
It's unclear if Rev had a word as he had fallen asleep looking out the window. Ein signs “what am I going to do with this kid” he thinks to himself. Ein walks over and wraps his blanket around him. The next day comes around and the sun takes the sky. Ein looks over to see Rev still out cold and decided to go get breakfast. “I hope he's in a better mood today” Ein thinks to himself. By the time Ein returns, Rev is still sound asleep in the window with the sun hitting his face. As Ein stepped in Rev opens his eyes, the bright crimson never been too clear as it reflects the bright sun's rays.
“How are you feeling Rev” Ein asks.
Rev looks lost in thought for a moment. “Am fine,” he responds.
“If you say so, be sure to eat up,” Ein says as he hand him the bowl of food.
“I think we will do source control until dinner times comes around,” Ein tells Rev.
“Alright,” Rev says in a tired voice.
“That you twin gods for the meal we will not waste a drop,” Ein says as he looks over at Rev.
To his surprise, Rev had waited for him to finish praying before eating. Ein smiles and he and Rev dig in to their first meal of the day. After they finish, Ein does as he had said before running Rev through source control.
“My pull feels weaker than before,” Rev says.
“That is a common side effect of excessive use of source from the day before. This is why we practice restrain like I said before. You’d be surprised that the strongest arts caster are hitting the books most days for training. There is always something new to learn.” Ein tells Rev.
They finish their source control training and take a rest as they wait for dinner to be ready. The time seems to pass so slowly Rev hates feeling this way. Rev had never been sick before but had seen others with sickness back at the farm. “This is what they must of felt like,” he thinks to himself. Rev spirits are rising as Ein returns with dinner. Its mushroom soup.
“Thank you twin gods for the meal. We will not waste a drop,” Rev quickly says as he guzzles down the soup.
Ein is stunned at what he just heard and is seeing. “Well, at least he said the prayer,” he thinks to himself. Rev had eaten mushroom soup before on the ship, but for some reason it had never tasted this good.
“here Rev,” Ein says handing him a piece of bread.
“Thank you” Rev says.
Ein smiles and he and Rev finish their meals.
“How are you feeling? You think you're up for some art training? It will be lighter than usual,” Ein says.
“Yeah let's go” Rev says but he still not feeling 100% inside.
Ein begins to explain the art “alright, this will be a defensive art. Simple, overlap your hands in an X shape. Position your left thumb on your right thumb's knuckle, then tuck your right thumb into the palm of your left hand. Then great a normal gather source in the center and then quickly scatter it wide. This will create a net of source. Now flip your hand so your palms face you. Then pull the source tight as if you had string attach to every piece of source and you pull them tight.”
Rev follows what Ein says. Then Ein sends a small wind blast at Rev. As it makes contact with the net of source it causes the art to active and Rev sees the source light up, seeing a tightly woven net appear in front of him. The wind blast scatter.
“pull Rev pull. Take the source from my wind blast and add it to your net”
Rev tries to pull and Ein sends more small wind blast at Rev. Rev tries to keep up his pulling and he sees the net in front of him grow bigger.
“its growing bigger, but am loosing control the bigger it gets. It's not as tight on the outer ends as it is in the center.” Rev tells Ein.
Ein stops his wind blast “Who interesting I've heard people theorise that was the case. I wish I could see what you see, Rev.” Ein says.
The training is cut short after Rev cast the other two arts he has learned.
“lets call it there Rev tomorrow will have to be a day of complete source control training,” Ein says.
Rev signs, “I know you think it's boring, but it's important,” Ein says.
That's it Rev before he know it was fast asleep early then he was yesterday. Ein not so much as he stays up sitting in the corner of the dark room. “this is gonna be a long coming week,” Ein thinks to himself as he start to doze off.
