Chapter 33

Rev melts the source metal around the ring and finally pulls it out. The ring itself is a dark purple color. Rev compared it to the shiny black metal it was encased in. It seems the amount of source the metal has in it also changed its color. Rev is just happy to be able to leave the vault. Rev put the ring in his pocket and left for the garden. He thought of the many nights he had spent sleeping in that vault. As they beam, slowly chip away at the cube. The mind numbing reputation of it all. Once he reaches the garden, he laid under the source tree. He had read up that putting on the ring could be dangerous if your mind wasn’t fully ready to receive so much information at once. So Rev took a nap under the tree and took in as much source as he passive could. When he woke up he went to fill his stomach. All the while, the ring sat in his pocket. Finally, at the end of the day Rev lay in bed and slide the ring onto his finger to apply such a little source to it. For a moment Rev had felt like he had gone blind. His body stiffened and his eyes rolled back into his head. In this new darkness, vision of complex source equations. Along with repeating inter weaved source inscriptions. They all flooded Revs mind. He gasped for air, his hands turned to tight fists. Rev’s body begins to shake violently. For a moment it seems like it’s the end, but it all come to an abrupt stop. Rev catches his breath as his vision slowly comes back to him. His mind is very dizzy.

“That was….a lot,” Reg says.

He lays in his bed trying to make sense of all that has entered this mind. He starts be drawing the things he sees then laying them all out piece by piece. He then rearrange them and put them together like a puzzle. Using what he knows to figure out which order of steps is correct. Most arts Rev had studied had a max of 8 steps, but this special art has over 150. With only one combination of steps leading to a successful it couldn’t be done with simply luck. Everything needed to have a reason behind it. This task would be too complicated to document. For this reason.

~4 years later

“WHAT! How why 4 years what happened to going day by day? Month by month?”

“Kid, were you not listening? Even if it told you how Rev did it, it’s not like we would understand and it would be a document of a special art which, as you know, is illegal. Now, back to the story.”

Rev in these past years has worked for every hour of the day. Cass would visit him from time to time, bringing him food. His room was a jumbled mess of papers that’s later turned to organized piles. The walls then started being filled with source inscription. Rev had also taken the source metal cube and created a dagger with a wooden handle to stop the metal from taking in source from the user and so that Rev could coat the handle in source and use it as a flying weapon. Rev had had noticed how tough Loka’s skill must have been to take no damage from the blizzard. This was simply a back-up plan of everything else was to fail. Luckily Rev had finally figured out her order of steps. He could not safely test it anywhere in the palace. He had predicted the source required to cast the e art even once was too much for Rev to cast more than once a week. Rev sat there in his room. I’m the palace he had spent so many years at now. This is what he had to show for it. He had accomplished in four years what some have failed to do in their lifetime. There was nothing left for Rev here. In a night like many others, Rev had left the palace without even looking back. The place that had saved him was nothing more than a stepping stone in Rev's mind. Cass had woken up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat.

“I see…it has begun. Twin gods have mercy,” Cass prays.

Rev had taken a map ripped out of a book. Along with many other things he had deemed useful. Source metal, food, water, and a book filled with arts he had written down. Finally, a log book where Rev would write down things he had learned on his travels in search of Loka. Now many say it was foolish of him to go after Loka in such haste, but who is to question the result? Rev would travel north toward the city of Lavek. A city said to be full of human workers and shady business. The elves here are not of any royal descent, but the ones at the top are more than well off. Rev travels through the forest and arrives at Lavek in a month and a half. Before the guards can spot him, Rev makes his way swiftly over the wall and into the outer city. The streets are full of trash and humans which Rev can’t tell if they're fully alive or not. As they lay motionless on the side of the street. It is pitch black outside, but Rev can see the faint source in people around him. Those who are alive at least. Rev covers his nose. The smell is like nothing he had experienced before. It was the first time he had felt a burning sensation, and it was in his nose. Rev scoffs and walks over the bodies. A child walks up to Rev with a constructed knife in hand.

“Hey…give me what you have,” the kids say, his voice trembling, but not nearly as loud as his stomach did.

“Do yourself a favor and lull yourself. Either you go out on your own terms or your life is ripped from you. Now get the fuck out of my way kid,” Rev says as he walks past the kid.

The kid looks up at Rev is eyes a void of lost emotions. He takes a breath and lunges toward Rev. Rev. swiftly kicks the kid away straight into a wall. The kid gets back up and lunges toward him again. Rev turns around, grabbing the kid by the neck and lifting him up. I’m on his other hand. He creates a fire. He brings it to the kid's face.

“What are your doing!” The kid yells. His voice scratch and dry.

Rev takes a good look at the kid. His face covered in dirk and hand stained a dark black. His hair looks brittle, like it could snap in half with a swipe of a hand. His eyes Rev focuses on.

“What is your purpose?” Rev asks.

The kid, now being able to see Rev's face he freezes. He is caught in a trance with Rev's eyes in the center.

“I…don’t know,” the kid says as if he’s going to cry.

But his tears had run dry long ago.

“If you could kill anyone in this world, who would it be?” Rev asks.

“…kill…I’d kill the elf king.” The kid's face turns to a wicked smirk.

Rev smile back and lets the kid go.

“Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t,” Rev says as he walks away.

A fire was lit by that kid. Rev travels further into the city. The building where strange. they had many pipes coming in and of them. With a dark smoke coming from their roofs. The streets became stained with human shit and pee. Rev couldn’t handle it much longer as he blasted up to the roofs. Where the smell of the smoke filled his lungs.

“How do people live here” Rev says.

Rev has not seen any elf sense the guards at the wall. Which seems more worried about keeping people in them out. It had to be done. Rev had no leads. He had learned that the elves that ran the city were very knowledgeable. He was hoping to get some information out of him. As things were going now Rev couldn’t wait to leave. He zoomed through the city’s tune. The inner city wall appears I form of him. He climbed up to be met by a glass dome. He looked down to see clean streets that seemed like they were polished daily. The elves seem to love to live in while houses made of clay and stone. Rev created a flame, and the concentrate it. He had copied the beam that was in the vault. His beam was less powerful, of course, but it was enough to melt the glass. Rev falls down into the city. He took a breath of fresh air. He walks he the streets with not a guard in sight. I guess they didn’t thick anyone could ever get in. Well, any human, that is. Rev went right up to the biggest building and climb his way up. Reaching a window that overlooked the inner city. Rev poured source into the lock and opened the door. In an instant Rev dashes across the room. The elf behind him was caught off guard.

“Your senses are sharp, I see,” the elf tells a Rev.

“Are you Famein?” Rev asks.

The elf laughs. “Mr. Famein is safe below us. Now, who are you exactly?” He asks.

Rev sighs “bring me to him. I have a question to ask him.” Rev says.

“I don’t think that will be poss-“

Rev dashes at the elf with his hand covered in fire. He sears the elf's face with his hand. Bring him to the ground.

“I want asking. Now bring me to him,” Rev demands.

Rev starts to pull the source out of the elf. Causing him to be unable to cast any arts. It feels like if his soul was being ripped from his body.

“Fine, your life will be meaningless in death.” Rev says.

He fuels the flame, burning his flesh straight to the bone. The fire floods into his skull and melts his brain to ash.

“Some people live such useless lives,” Rev says.

He takes the elf’s keys and walks through the building, going further down. Rev continues to tell the elves in his path the ale thing and they all meet the same end.

“How did such stupid creates take over the world?” Rev says.

He finds a hallway with three elves at the next to it.

“Is Famein in there?” Rev asks.

“You won’t be alive to find-“

Rev blast the hallway with a firer cloud. That engulfs the elves, filling their lungs with the smoke coming off their own burning flesh. Rev slowly walks toward them with an unamused look on his face.

“Ahhh uhhh UUUHH.” The elves gasp for air.

“Even your flesh smell bad” Rev says.

He gets out his dagger and stamps them in the heart, letting the dagger absorb the source with in them. He coats the door and blast it open. Ducks a water spear.

“Did you really just try to kill me with that?” Rev asks.

“Get away from me, you monster!” Famein yells.

“I see, so you must be famein. I heard you're pretty fat. It seems that was an understatement.” Rev says.

Famein scuffs. “ Where you raised by animal. Your-“

Rev dashes I front of him. Eyes to eyes, Famein stared into the crimson voids.

“What…are you?” Famein asks.

“I’ll tell you if you first tell me everything you know about Loka.” Rev tells Famein.

“Loka…” Famein laughs. “Let me guess, you wanna kill him,” he says.

“I will kill him. Now tell me what you know. And I’ll think about not burning you to ash. Don’t worry, it will be slower and more painful than the others.” Rev says.

Famein stiffens up. “He was looking for Hell scape. He said it would be the second to last thing he needed to kill the Elf king. That guys crazy if you ask me, but don’t tell him I said that. He came by hear about 6 months after he said that. It seems like he could find it. He drank till he passed out on the floor. He woke up he said he need to check in on something and left. He was heading west toward Frayer the last time I saw him. That’s all I know!” Famein tells Rev.

Rev pulls the source dagger towards him and sends it straight into Famein’s heart.

“I…said…” Famein tries to speak.

“This world has no use for you,” Rev says. As he watched the life drain from Famein’s eyes.

Rev leaves the city making burn down Famein’s house before he went. He watches from the glass down above as the elves below scrambled. He was gone before the blessed elf could ever even sense him. Rev had no time for such pointless fighting. He heads straight for Frayer. Going past a small settlement of humans in the forest, living in the stumps of giant trees.

“Has some names Loka come past hear. About this tall brown skin, dark hair?” Rev asks.

“Yes, I believe someone like that did come through here.” The old man said.

Rev notices the twin god emblem the man was wearing around his neck. “Are you a fellow follower?” The old man asks.

“I come from the palace.” Rev responds.

“Wow…so that band around your neck? You are truly a warrior.” The old man says.

“I don’t know if I would go that far. This belong to…an old friend…” Rev tells him.

“I see we’ll I’ll be praying for your safety on your travels.” He says.

“Thanks…” Rev responds.

He is off toward Frayer once more. It seems that Loka is far ahead of him.
