Rev and Ein got as much rest as they're going to get. They go back at it step by step. The plains grass grows tall, completely engulfing Rev. Ein has to clear a path, making Rev walk behind him. Then he gets an idea. He climbs on top of Ein to get a better view.
“How long do you think it will take to get to the mountain?” Rev asks.
Ein thinks for a moment before responding. “Maybe 10-11 days,” Ein responds.
“That doesn’t seem that long,” Rev says.
Ein laughs, “getting to the mountain will be the easy part. What lies beyond it is a thick jungle, like nothing you’ve ever seen before. From that point, it will probably take 5 months or so to just reach the city alone. That's assuming we don’t get lost along the way.” Eins tells Rev.
“5 MONTHS?” Rev says as he tries to figure out how many days that is in his head.
“Yes Rev, I told you the journey ahead will not be easy, but that just gives us more time to learn,” Ein says.
"Rev, you see all this tall grass surrounding us." Tell me what you see when you look closer,” Ein says.
Rev looks around at the tall grass around them and focuses on. Soon the field begins to sparkle as if he was looking at the stars at night. The faint light of the grass moved like waves in the ocean as the wind blow over them.
“Source is faint, but it's everywhere” Rev says.
“Rev, do you know what a water drain in a sink is?” Ein asks.
“I'm not dumb” Rev responds arrogantly.
EIn chuckles. “When you drain the water, it all starts swirling around the hole as it gets sucked in. Picture yourself as the drain Rev and pull every bit of source towards you.” Ein tells Rev.
Ein lets raises Rev height above his head. As Rev stands on Eins hands, he steadies his breath. Look all around him and stick his hand out. His breath matches the rythem of the wind. “Pull” Rev thinks “Pull” the grass closes to Rev starts to point towards him. yet nothing happens.
“It didn’t work,” Rev says as Ein lets him down.
“I didn’t think it would,” Ein says.
Rev glares at Ein. “Sometime you need to be humbled you won’t pick every new thing up on the first try Rev. You can’t let moments like this slow you down. Use them to push you forward. It's good to have goals,” Ein tells Rev.
Rev is silent. “I have one goal,” he thinks to himself.
“Rev, try to pull the source from just a bundle of grass,” Ein suggests.
Rev climbs down Rev back onto the floor below and grabs a bundle of grass in his hands. He looks deep into it seeing the faint source with in. “Pull” Rev thinks “pull”. Rev starts to see the source move into the palm of his hand. Then flow down his arm into his core.
“Rev, try to move some source to your hand to create a strong pull effect,” Ein says.
“Ok” Rev responds.
Rev grabs another bundle of grass and moves some source to his hand. Before he even try to pull the source in the grass start to move towards his hand.
“Its moving on its own,” Rev says
Ein smiles “So it's true it was written that the source has a nature pull, but there is usually not enough to have any real effect. But the source with in elves is so plentiful that it's strong enough to pull small bits of source with no effect at all. This is what allowed elves to rapidly increase their natural source from generation to generation. Your eyes have confirmed so many things for me already.” Ein tells Rev.
Rev is silent as he moves more source to his hand and pulls. To his delight he see source from the grass 2 feet in font of him start to move toward his hand. Rev’s eyes light up brighter than usual as he marvels at the source.
Ein begins to explain what is happing.“This is what is known as Outer source control. Caster will pull source from their environment to aid them in casting an upper tier art as the source requirement to cast them is usual extremely high and it would be foolish to only the source inside you to cast it.”
“Is that so…” Rev says
They continue their journey as Rev now walks behind Ein as he runs his hand on the grass and pulls as much source as he can. Mid day comes around and Ein can’t seem to take the heat. He cast water orbs art over his head to cool him off and then another to drink.
“Do you need water Rev?” Ein asks.
“Sure” Rev says.
Ein looks down on Rev in his full black cloak “How does he do it” Ein thinks as he creates a water orb for Rev to drink.
“Thank you” Rev says.
This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.
Ein is pleased by Rev improvement, and a smile appears on Ein face.
Eventually Ein can’t take it anymore and wind blast an area of grass away and create another stone cube.
“That's better,” Ein says as he sits against the cold stone wall.
Feels the walls of the cold stone and quickly pulls back. He heads out the door to bask in the sun and feel the source around gravitate towards him. Ein leaves him to do as he pleases as he prepares lunch.
“Come hear Rev food is ready” Ein calls out.
Rev walks in and sees what Ein had prepared.
“Thank you twin god for the meal. We will not let any of it go to waste,” Ein says.
Once they finish eating Rev walks back outside while Ein stays inside and runs him through more source control. The sun heat weekend as the day goes on. Ein and Rev continue step by step. The forest becomes more clear in the distance.
“Alright Rev let call it here. We will make it to the forest by tomorrow no doubt,” Ein says.
“Ok” Rev says as he looks at the trees in the distances.
They set up camp and lay the mat down. Ein then prepares dinner as Rev watches the sunset. He climbs on top of the stone cube and lays down admiring the sky as the stars begin to show themself. He reaches out to them.
“Pull” Rev whispers.
The winds are strong that night. Rev can see dark clouds in the distance. He feels uneasy as he takes his breath.
“Rain…” Rev says.
Ein steps out of the cube to tell Rev that dinner is ready but is distracted by the clouds.
“Get inside Rev a seems a storm is coming”Ein tell Rev.
Rev quickly gets inside and Ein covers the doorway, then creates some holes higher up for air flow.
“We should be safe from the storm in head no doubt,” Ein says as he sees Rev looking at the food.
“Would you pray?” Ein asks.
Rev looks over at him and signs, “Thank you twin gods for the meal. We won’t let any of it go to waste,” Rev recently says.
Ein smile “Feel free to dig in then”
Rev doesn’t hesitate as he devours his portion of the food. Rev and Ein talk about the journey ahead. Rev becomes more conformable in conversation.
“So you said source is in other people and when you get low on source, you become sick, right?” Rev asks.
Ein responds “Yes, that right…”
“Ok so why do human that have such little source not get sick?” Rev asks.
Ein try to think of a way to explain it “Well…humans where created on the dependence of source as much as a cyclops like me for example. Like I said, source is a gift, but not everyone so to receive it. Since humans were never blessed with much source, they naturally develop strengths in different areas. Such as technology. From the stories I heard, the humans on Isha were seen as elfs equals and their minds we growing far beyond what the elves could understand. Like every generation of the elves were born with more source than the last. Every generation of human where smarter than the last. In honesty, if they would be a source to recon with if their life spans weren’t so short. Does that make sense Rev?”
Rev had heard before between the elf guard and the humans at the farm that there was a difference in how long they lived, but he never thought the gab was that significant.
“So all the humans are weak-” Rev gets cut off.
“No Rev, never underestimate a human. Their wits are unmatched. One of the most feared monsters of this world was once human…” Ein stops him self.
“human turned monster?” Rev says in a confused tone.
Ein hesitates to answer Rev “Its-”
BOOM!!
Lightning strikes the ground.
“What was that” Rev asks.
Ein goes to check out the small holes .
“The storm is stronger than I expected. None the less, we still should be perfectly fine in hear…Lets just try to get some rest,” Ein says.
Rev nods as he curls up in his warm cloak and tries to sleep through the storm. The night felt extra long, but as all things the storm eventually passed. The sun took the sky and ein punched a doorway in the stone cube.
“Lets get going. We should make it to the forest by sunset,” Ein tells Rev.
Rev follows behind Ein. They push through the thick grass. Ein creates a path as he towers over the grass.
“Here Rev,” Ein says handing him a nice big orange.
Rev grabs it. “Thank you,” he says.
The walk feels longer than usual, but endurances is one thing Rev has plenty of.
“We should build more on defensive arts today. Something tells me we might need to use them for the journey ahead,” Ein says.
“Like the net I made before,” Rev asks, which gets him thinking.
Rev shares his thougth“Hey Ein, the net you taught me uses the enemy's attack to get stronger. And then you taught me you can pull source from living things to help with casting arts. Does that mean you could pull the source out of some-”
Ein turns around to Rev looking at him with a death stare like Rev had never seen before.
“NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER bring up such a thing again. Get that thought out of your head Rev it is of no use to you! I will not let you turn yourself into a monster. NOT NOW NOT EVER.” Ein tells Rev his voice is stern and strong.
Rev is shocked. He had never seen Ein this angry, if at all truly angry at all. That stare if his reminded Rev of how others would glare down on him. It caused his stomach to twist and curl.
“…i…i’am…I’m sorry” Rev muttered.
Ein is breath is heavy and stare is still vicious. He turns back around and breaths then starts walking forward.
“You are forgiven. Come on Rev, we are wasting daylight.” Ein voice still feels like it’s full of thorns.
Rev is silent and starts to walk after him. As mid day rolled around, Ein created another stone cube. After the entail prayer, lunch was as silent as ever. Eventually The tension began to loosen as they went into training.
“Do you remember the net I taught you before?” Ein asks.
“Um…Yeah” Rev responds.
“Good cast it and ill send normal power wind blast at you this time. If you can't keep it up just tell me,” Ein says.
“Ok” Rev says
Rev cast the art seeing the net form as the wind blast him it. It grows and grows.
“Ok Rev use the spear source you have gathered to cast a wind spear,” Ein says.
“Ok” Rev says.
Rev uses the loose end of the source net and pulls it in, letting in flow naturally into him then bending it to his likely to cast a wind spear. Ein has set a stone wall in the distance much smaller than before in an effort to let Rev practice his accuracy.
shoom
The wind spear fly past the target, carving a path in the grass.
Rev signs, “It's ok this is why we practice Rev. lets do it again” Ein says.
They spend 2 hours training running the drill over and over again. Ending it off with some source control.
“Alright let call it there and get back to it is forest is close we should make it,” Ein says.
Rev catches his breath. His source endurances have truly vastly improved. He catches back up to Ein. The forest gets closer and closer as the trees become bigger in the distance. Finally, just-in-time As the sun sets over the mountains, Ein takes the first steps into the forest floor. Rev follows after him.
“Well, we made it. Let set up here for the night,” Ein says as he creates a stone shelter around him and Rev.
“Thank you twin gods for the meal we will not let any of it go to waste,” Rev says.
Ein smiles softly “Thank you Rev” he says.
“For what…?” Rev responds.
“For being you,” Ein says, his smile expelling warmth.
Rev gives Ein a weird look, but it quick softens at Ein warmth rubs off on Rev. That night both Rev and Ein went to sleep much happier than before.
