Where's My Unique Skill?! [Discontinued]
[6] Goodbye, Beginner Forest~

[6] Goodbye, Beginner Forest~

Have you ever felt like a one-man army while playing a fantasy RPG? Sure you would, your grossly over-levelled character must be 20 or so levels above your enemies! Of course you would treat them like sand in the middle of the desert!

But sometimes that would still be the case even without being over-levelled! Which was probably because of some balancing issues or a glitch in the system. If so, then give her a way to glitch herself out of this situation!!

“Stop chasing meeeee!!!!”

“Gugha!!”

Diana ran with all her might, not daring to look back towards the chasing enemies. Small barrages of wind were casted from the goblin mage in attempt to defeat her, only to land and crash into a nearby tree bark. But it wouldn’t be like that for so long, as her SP was pretty much dying right now!!

“What to do?! What to do?!”

Her mind rumbled as she did her best to find a way out of this damn situation! The situation was absolutely helpless! Her staff was gone, her knife was pretty much useless, her skills wouldn’t help much, and Slimey couldn’t even catch up to her and stayed back at the lake! What the hell was she supposed to do now?!

Her legs continued to sprint across the shadows, avoiding the incoming wind barrages from behind her. She could just barely hear grunts and groans coming from the goblins, complaining about how annoying this Slime Queen was. Diana of course didn’t understand them and only considered them as a chant, making her even more tense than before.

But she didn’t have much time left. One more minute of sprinting or so, her SP would be left empty, and she would be completely vulnerable to these goblins. She shivered unknowingly as she imagined their knives or that wind barrage cleaving and cutting into her skin.

She didn’t want that. She didn’t want that one bit! But how was she supposed to get out of this?!

That was when, in a sudden strike of intelligence, she came up with a plan, a plan which, she admitted, was something she should’ve realised to do.

And so, [Slime Valley] activated!

“Gugha?!”

The goblins watched in shock as the girl before them, morphed into that of a slime. Her clothes slid through her body as her slimy body completely formed. Smiling at her chasers, she ran towards her left, the goblins quickly chasing after her.

“Gugha!”

There in front, they could spot a trail of green slime, a perfect trail only left by a slime. Grinning widely, they ran at her, thinking that she had been played. But of course, they were the ones being played, as from a small bush, Diana emerged, her body already morphed back to her human form, bare and naked to the cold air.

The plan was simple, run away, throw some of her own slime in a random direction, and hide. The goblins were dumb enough to actually believe her plan, hence why they were called stupid by this world, and her previous world.

Picking up her clothes and her knife, she put her clothes back on and walked back towards the lake. She knew she wouldn’t get lost, as her familiar bond with Slimey gave her enough information as to where to head. Not long after her escape, she emerged back before the lake, the clear surface still looking as clear as ever.

*Boink!*

“Yeah, I did it!”

She happily bent down and petted Slimey, the little green blob jiggling in happiness upon the return of its master, and its queen. Sighing to herself, she sat down by the lake and opened her status.

As you can see, she did not come out unscathed. Her HP had dropped right under 20%, her MP was down to a drop, and her SP was just barely above the number zero. She was extremely lucky to have monsters dumb enough to accept that small slime drop as an actual trail!

But that aside, she needed to sleep! She wasn’t in a state to fight, nor would she really ever be if she would stay with stats as crappy as this! But she convinced herself to keep on fighting, no matter how high the wall seemed to be.

But, rest comes first. Resting her back on a nearby tree, she slowly closed her eyes, not before recalling a certain skill that claimed to help her with this. She brought up her status once more and checked the description for her newly acquired skill.

[Alleviation]

Lv 1/5

Allows you to enter a state of meditation, where exhaustion, pain, and feelings fades away.

In this state, you recover slightly faster.

Crossing her legs, she closed her eyes and relaxed, letting her exhaustion slowly wash away. Time to heal back!

And so, time continued to pass by.

…………………………

Several hours had passed, and Diana finally snapped out of her trance. Her eyes shot open and her whole body jerked, causing her to bump her head onto the tree bark she was resting against. She held her head and cried slightly.

*Boink?*

“I-I’m…fine.”

Wiping away the tears, she smiled and patted her little familiar. She couldn’t just cry from that, she’s a man! Woman! She’s a woman!

That aside, her condition seems to have healed back to full. Her SP was roaring to go! Looking up, she noted that the sun was, indeed, still in the sky. Which meant that her [Alleviation] skill really did work! Or she just awoke early. She is quite the heavy sleeper, especially after days of constant grinding in WoW.

But then, she realised something. What if those goblins realised they were being played, and returned here? What could she do then? She couldn’t fight back, and she wouldn’t be able to use the same trick twice!

She couldn’t remain here for any longer, no matter how much the clear surface of the waters enticed her. Packing up the 3 knives she had, she called Slimey over and walked in a random direction, with the hopes that they wouldn’t encounter anything in this journey.

Of course, that was impossible given where she was, but she could hope!

As if this world wanted to completely sh*t on her, a group of unbeatable monsters appeared! Magical monsters, a type of monster untouchable by mere brute force. As they say, you fight fire with fire, and that applies as well to the way to defeat them.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

One needed magic to defeat these beings, or other supernatural forces this world had to offer. Diana had none of those, so she could only hope to run. And run she did!

By the time night had come, Diana was left tired and weak, panting as her SP fell down to zero. Dropping down and resting her back against a nearby tree, she immediately entered her trance and fell asleep.

………………

Dawn approached, and Diana started the day with a daily dose of running away in absolute fear as she tried to avoid the impending death these magical wraiths. Their dark miasma, while slow, corrupted and killed anything it touched. Trees, plants, a wandering bunny, nothing was safe from these damn things!

Luckily, just like their attacks, the wraiths’ main weakness was their snail speed. They didn’t bother to chase after their opponents if they were too fast, and when they reached far enough, the wraith would simply lose interest and return to doing whatever they were doing before this.

The problems is, they were everywhere!

And with a simple run, she out sped the wraith, letting it return to its own business. She sighed softly and trotted on. But she did not walk for long, as from within the trees’ cover, came a single goblin, a leather backpack worn on its back.

“Another one!”

“G-Gugha!”

Seeing the knife she just pulled out, the goblin jumped back in fright and waved its arms in the air, most likely as a sign of peace. She stared at the goblin for a while, before sighing and putting the knife back. The goblin sighed in relief and stood tall.

It was then she realised, that it was trying to initiate a trade.

Finally! The first non-violent NPC she had met! Or so she thought as such.

Although, she didn’t know how to communicate with this green-skinned child. Their language sounded like gibberish to her, and she was pretty sure these goblins couldn’t understand English.

So, she simply took out one of her knives and pointed at it, before pointing it at the goblin. The goblin flinched as it thought of it as a warning, but seeing the relaxed expression on her face, it immediately realised that she was willing to trade away her silver knife.

It smiled and took out a book from its backpack. The book’s cover was worn out, as if it had been kept for quite some time. Its pages looked like they had been spilled on with some coffee, tainting the white with a nice tinge of light brown.

Her thoughts immediately turned towards a spell tome. You know, like those skill books that give you new skills that when you read it? Yeah, those things! In a rush of excitement, she quickly traded her knife for the book and turned away, ready to read through the worn out book.

*Boink!*

“What?”

But Slimey immediately gave notice, and Diana instantly turned around, only to see the goblin reaching for her with the knife she had just traded. In a state of shock, she morphed into a slime girl, the knife simply cutting through her slimy flesh before it healed back.

“You…”

A flame of anger burned in her slimy eyes as she felt the feeling of being betrayed. It perfectly reminded her of that f*cker that betrayed her team in the middle of the battle. Her anger exploded as she took hold of her own knife and stabbed it repeatedly, wounds after wounds opening on the goblin’s chest. With one final strike, the goblin fell down, bleeding, and dead.

[Enemy has been slain. Gained 7 Experience]

“Hah…Hah…”

Changing back to her human form, she gazed at the dead goblin, its face twisted in horror as it realised just how much of a mistake it had made. And it would be its last mistake.

She pulled the leather backpack it was carrying away and checked what it had inside. She wasn’t robbing it, okay? To her disappointment, there was nothing of value inside, only a couple pieces of bread and a small copper coin. This was probably the currency in this world!

But that was not what she wanted to focus on! Down by her fallen clothes, the worn out book sat silently, calling for her to read it through and through. She happily complied as she slid her clothes back on and picked up the book. With Slimey by her side, she sat down by a tree and opened the book, only to realise one major flaw in her plan.

She couldn’t even read this!

But! To her delight, there were illustrations! Praise the sun! And just like she had guessed, this was a magic tome! From what the pictures had, this magic would allow her to…uh…create bubbles? Really? There might be something special about the bubbles, so it might still be special.

Strapping the backpack on her, she placed the book inside and stood up. She needed to find a place to stay. And also find some food. Her stomach had been running empty as of late.

Picking a random direction, she simply shrugged her shoulders and walked on, not really knowing where this would take her.

And of course, she runs into more wraiths! Ahh!! These things are suddenly everywhere! Where did those cute little bunnies go?! She was even beginning to miss the slimes! But not as much, since she did have Slimey by her side!

And that was how it went for about 5 days, running away from those damned wraiths and resting when she needed to, killing the incoming goblins that she encountered and stealing their loot off their dead bodies. Usual RPG gameplay.

Until finally, the fabled Level up appeared once more!

[Congratulations! Peasant has levelled up to Level 2! Your stats have improved]

“Finally!!”

Shouting out to the world about her achievement, she brought up her status and read in excitement.

Look at those sweet increases man! Just look at them! Might not look like much to an ordinary RPG player, but to her, this was like a blessing. Her long trot across the monster filled forest had finally bore fruit again! Oh, how she couldn’t wait to reach Level 5 of this damn peasant class!

Besides power levelling herself, she had also spent some time training to try and control her mana once more. Every time she did, she would always feel so close, yet, the burden of reality pushed away those fantasies as she felt her grip slip away.

Her progress on the magic tome hadn’t been doing well either, as he realised that he needed to control his own mana first before finally trying to learn this damn spell.

But! She did manage to raise [Knife Mastery] to Level 2, so there’s that!

As for her progress to find a place to stay, let’s say that it completely failed. She had seen nothing different besides the same view of the trees and the shadows casted by the leaves above her.

That was, until the 6th day, when she finally saw something that was different! The trees cleared out before her, revealing the clear grassy plains before her. The plains stretched out farther than her eyes could see.

She took a deep long breath, enjoying the feeling of freedom from that dark shadowy forest. Certainly, she was glad to be out of that damn place, but it felt quite bitter too, since he was abandoning the place he pretty much had called home.

Shedding a single tear, she turned away from the forest and walked on, her head held high as she stared towards her future, with Slimey walking by her side. What the future had in store, she did not know, but she would find out!

Like, right now.

*Crackle, crackle*

“Huh? That’s…”

Speaking as silently as she could, she watched the walking undead by the other side of the hill she had just climbed. The skeleton was walking under the broad daylight, wearing a dark purple robe. Its skeletal fingers wrapped around the menacing looking staff it had, the purple gem on the tip shined a dangerous purple.

Was that thing some kind of ‘Overlord’? The staff it had looked way too fancy to be that of a normal monster. But! If this was a boss monster, or a mini-boss even, doesn’t that mean that the staff is probably something good too?!

Her gamer heart jumped in joy as she could just taste that sweet loot. There was obviously no money drops here, but that doesn’t matter! That staff was going to be hers!’

“Okay…”

Obviously, she would instantly die if she fought it head on, so that was a no. Instead, let’s make use of this [Assassination] skill for once! In that forest, this skill had pretty much taken a back seat, except for that one time with that green insect she found.

She silently dropped her leather backpack down and took out her knife.

Silently walking down the hill, she crouched and continued following the skeletal mage. It did not seem to have spotted her, yet. Once she gets spotted, she’s going up to the heavens. Oh! Would there be a high school up in limbo? That might be nice!

But just as she came close, a terrible shiver crept up her spine. Her whole body shivered as she felt the terrific pressure the skeletal mage was extending. Her legs and arms shook in fear, her mind shouting to her to go back.

But her heart pulsed with energy, and slowly, she crept up behind the skeleton, her knife shining with death. The silver edge still keeping its shine.

Swallowing her spit, she readied herself, and swung the knife at the skeleton’s neck!

*Bak!*

The knife stabbed into the skeleton’s neck, and a crack formed as she pulled it out. Eh, w-why is the skeleton still alive…?

*Creeaakk*

“H-Hii!”

The skeleton’s skull rotated around, and its empty eye sockets glared at her. A vicious purple flame lit in between its empty eyes, staring directly into her soul. The skeleton cracked a deadly smile, and lunged at her!

At that moment, Diana knew, she f*cked up.
