The League of Mages,
It’s sorta like the Mages’ Association thing from Fate, a group that binds the magicians of Earth to keep them from going all gung-ho and blowing up the entire planet because they thought, ‘Hey, why not?’
The big difference being that instead of having 3 of them that control different things, the League of Mages is simply a title to be put in the spotlight, with countless more ‘Houses’ living under it.
The ‘YumeKyarai’ is one of those houses. It’s a house that mostly operates in and only in the one country of Anime, Japan.
They do everything from monitoring the changes of the mana in the atmosphere, to odd occurrences that cause disruptions in the flow of mana, and even sending some of their mages to go and deal with problems.
And al to protect the people from harm!...Well, mostly because they’re bored.
You see? In this world of science, magic’s pretty much faded into obscurity, just like any story with an Earth setting that has science beating out magic.
In the past, countless magicians roamed the Earth, harvesting the mana from the Earth itself and channelling it to do many mystical things. Healing with a single touch, splitting the skies and seas, causing eruptions and tornadoes.
But as logic became prevalent and the scientific method began to take place, as Mana was something normal technology, and even high-tech technology could detect, magic was quickly sunk into myths and legends.
In this day and age, the remaining mages have come together, united under one title, living their lives with the purpose to prolong the life of their magic, and to further develop their crafts.
“The, end. Ah~, so amazing!”
With the last word read, the girl closed the book she was reading and giggled, entranced by the many things this book she bought from the Mage store back in Kyoto.
The afternoon sun shone brightly over Kofu city, and many students were currently out and about doing their own thing.
It was about the time when the Japanese High schools ended, so the many high school students, including herself, walking around was to be expected. They were, unlike her, just normal students, and had no knowledge of magic, unlike her.
Fumiko Akari mused to herself, feeling her pride swell up to mount fuji, knowing that out of all the students here, the jocks, the pretties, the cool, she’s the only(probably) girl to have magic on her side. So, ha! Suck it!
She was, on the outside, a completely ordinary girl. Average female height, short black hair, black eyes, enjoys sports and reading, which was a bit odd, and was a fanatic and fangirl of anything magic-related.
Right now, aside from stroking her ego, she was also out on a daily errand to check for any irregularities in the area. Of course, since she’s a newbie in the team, they’ve assigned her the simple stuff and restricted most access to any magic research, which sucks!
She did get this cool iPad-like gadget however! It’s currently inside her school backpack, but if there are any mana fluctuations, the thing will vibrate like crazy and point her in the direction of the cool stuff.
Right now, it was staying silent, since nothing’s really-
*Brrrrrrrrrrr*
O…kay, maybe not. In a haste, she pulled out the device from her bag and, as her colleagues explained to her, it was vibrating quite heavily, and a graph in the style of a heart rate monitor, which gets more violent the closer she gets to the fluctuation.
Oooh~! A mission~! As this was her first time meeting something like this, she couldn’t help but feel excited, tapping her feet against the asphalt, and also attract odd glances from anyone with enough care to notice her.
Like the fangirl she was, she ran in speeds even sonic couldn’t match, before finally arriving at-
“…Huh?”
A completely normal pedestrian street.
There…There’s nothing here! She couldn’t help but wonder if either the device was going weird, or it was her being incapable of even sensing the anomaly. She waited for quite a bit, squinting her eyes to try and get a better picture.
Before a group of 3 people suddenly passed her, and her device spiked so much in nearly broke.
She turned around to see two girls and one man walking side by side, one of the girls staying silent while the other was having a pleasant(if loud) chat with each other.
This…No, they were it. Those 3 people were the anomalies that her device was detecting!
But, from the looks of it, they were…human? With the levels of mana this device was detecting it seemed unlikely. But they moved, talked, showed emotions, and more-
Doesn’t that mean they’re aliens!?
And with that, another stupid theory was born, as she contemplated whether or not she believed that these things called aliens actually existed…Thinking about it, aliens are just things that are distinctly not human, animal, or plant, so they obviously exist. Just look at Phantasmal Beasts! Scary as hell!
She was about to go and talk to them, but she then wondered whether they even spoke Japanese or not. With their looks and such, she doubted they were, and she wasn’t a genius who-
“…Ah! T-They’re gone!”
…By the time she snapped out of her many thought bubbles, she realised that the three people she was looking for was now gone! Device in hand, Fumiko cursed herself as she ran to follow them.
She later saw them buying ice cream from a street vendor.
With money.
And capable of speaking to the locals.
……Well then, guess her worry of them not being able to speak Japanese was unneeded. Now, once again, she was about to go up to them and speak, however!
She was there.
Shizenso Yue. A young idol from another school. About the same age and height as her.
But all similarities end there.
She had beautiful long golden hair, striking green eyes, a curvy body figure, an infinite closet of fashionable clothing(probably), and lots and lots of money. Like, LOTS of money.

She’s an arrogant b*tch who goes around, flaunting her money all over the place, charming boys, and sometimes girls, with no effort at all, and even going so far as owning a large jewellery company in Kyoto.
It’s crazy.
But she knew better, and that’s what makes it worst.
Not only was she spoiled rich and a b*tch, she was also a mage, and a powerful one at that. She came from the ‘Shizenso’ family, a prominent family in magecraft that dealt with making use of the Earth’s mana to do many things, which was usually somewhat related to nature in some way.
And she a prodigy-…No, even that might be too small for her. Her reserve of mana was gigantic it made her device go mad just by standing next to her, and her skill at using her magecraft put most mages to shame.
It’s absolutely crazy.
And since she’s here…No…It can’t be-!
She lost. It was her first encounter with something magical, and she’s lost already! Damnit! She cursed herself as she forced herself to hide behind a tree, watching.
She knew, if she tried to get in her way, just like anyone that did before, she’d get beaten down, not just by magic, but her political standing and power. It’s the perfect kryptonite for a normal ordinary Japanese girl like her!
But what happened next shocked her.
“Hey there you three~, I’m-“
She was going on like normal, introducing herself with that annoying voice of hers. The way her hips moved and eyes shone got the man captivated at least, and the silent girl titled her head and looked at her with suspicion.
But the other one,
“Um~…You’re a mage, aren’t you?”
This gave Yue a noticeable moment of panic, not just because this girl knew she was a mage, but also because she said it out in the open, with people to hear. If the public starts to realise mages are a thing…she couldn’t even imagine what’d happen!
“I’m Diana, nice to-“
“Shh!! D-Don’t just say I’m a mage! I’ll get in trouble!”
Before Diana could say anymore, and presumably even speak out more stuff about magic than a broken recorder could on a looped disk, Yue moved up and forced her hands over Diana’s mouth, eyes darting around to make sure no one heard that.
…Which was kinda redundant, since her act only caused more people to turn their heads and look at them.
The man beside Diana was smirking to himself, and the other girl was surveying the situation with cold eyes. The two didn’t seem to be too bothered by the increased attention, but the sudden touch did seem to garner some attention from them, especially that other girl.
After the initial ‘shock?’, Diana slowly pulled away Yue’s hands from her mouth, a carefree smile on her face.
After that fiasco, Diana and her friends followed Yue to a secluded area to talk about an artefact or something. She would’ve gone and followed them even more, but a close friend of hers, her school’s student council vice president, spotted her suspiciously hiding behind a tree and pulled her away.
…………………
Shizenso Yue.
Young idol. Most popular girl in school. Beautiful. Honour Student. Good grades. Good physique. Enough money to build several personal skyscrapers.
She had it all.
Born and raised as the heir to Shizenso family, gifted with an unnatural talent in magic, and an incredible sensitivity to mana, she was known as one of the best mages in Japan, even at her young age.
On one seemingly normal day, after school had just ended, just like any student would, after saying goodbye and complimenting her fans to get her way, she made her way out of the school and was headed home.
Until she felt something.
An enormous cascade of mana pulsed from somewhere in Kofu city, and just like any mage, she had a smile on her face as she ran towards it.
After all, to wield magic was to walk with death.
Wait, wasn’t that a quote from Fate!?
Finally, after some running, she saw them, a group of 3 people, dressed in normal clothing and chatting about like normal people.
Or that’s what anyone would see from the outside.
Using her keen senses, she could see the insane mana surging inside the 3 individuals. However, unlike mages, their mana wasn’t convoluted by worldly matters, but clean and pure.
A trait that only belonged to the ages of myths and gods.
This was awesome! For a girl who had lived her life dwelling in the arte of magic, someone with ties to the age of lost magic was someone she just had to find!
But,
“Um~…You’re a mage, aren’t you?”
The girl, who she later learnt was called Diana, figured her out first.
This worried her, not because she knew she was a mage, but because she just stated that, in public, with ordinary people and students walking about! By reflex, she stepped up to her and forced her hand over her mouth,
Which garnered looks of interest from everyone walking by, but she didn’t take time to notice.
Later getting her to agree to talk somewhere else more private, she got the three to follow her back to her house, which was nice, since she was getting annoyed at that stalker hiding oh so obviously behind a tree.
This then, was the time for the three to be surprised.
Yue’s home, as a proud Japanese, was a large traditional Japanese home built out of wood. Tatami floors, sliding doors, a large backdoor park, and many Japanese rules to follow,
It was Diana’s absolute dream come true!
“Waha~!” She squealed happily as she looked at the amazing sight, with Fyorei also staring in wonder, and Anna who was silently observing the situation, if not slightly sending hostile glares at the fairly proud Yue.
Finally inside, using some of the manners she gained through her many experiences in the void for once, she took off the shoes she was wearing, told Anna and Fyorei to do the same, before they followed Yue inside.
And, hoo boy~! The inside was just as cool as she remembered from all those animes she watched!
Made her want to shout ‘Tadaima~!’ to no one in particular, but she realised that this wasn’t her house, so she held herself back.
“Phew…Alright, let me ask you some questions. First, are you human?”
“Nope!” She answered as happy and carefree as ever. Fyorei grinned and nodded, and Anna nodded silently as well. Well, seeing as they were holding magic no human could ever handle should have made the answer quite obvious, but better safe than sorry.
“Next, where did you come from?”
“Umu…That’s a secret!”
She couldn’t just say she was born on Earth and then got transported to another world as a girl, could she? She’ll probably just look at her all weird.
“Ah, oh, okay. Then, lastly, what are you planning?”
This was the final straw. If these three beings came to this planet to cause chaos for the populace, it would be her job as a mage to keep the peace. Now-
“We’re just here to try and find something to kill a god.”
…Uh…Huh…What?
“…Sorry?”
“We’re here to kill a god-, ah, I guess that’s pretty weird, huh! Ahaha~”
Somehow…she wondered if this girl sitting across from her was actually right in the head.
And seeing as this was Diana she was talking about here…well…Being ‘right in the head’ wasn’t exactly Diana’s best forte.
Now!
As the author and narrator, I shall intervene right here.
H-Hey!?
Ignore Diana’s cries for attention, as I beam you back to the world of fantasy once more.
Just this time, it was less fantasy and more, ‘holy sh*t, what the f*ck happened to everyone?!’
Due to the recent and sudden outbreaks of gates into the void world, many vengeful spirits, those who had been forcefully ejected from their bodies as their empty husks became ‘the lost’, these spirits sought out more human candidates to use as a shell.
Sadly, as the gates close, the spirits will get dragged back into the gates, even after they’ve inhabited another body. Which meant that the vengeful spirit, and the spirit of the body they inhabited, will both return to the realm of vengeful spirits.
This chain reaction occurred in only a couple hours, but in those couple hours, near to all of humanity have been dragged into the void, and this left the world an empty husk, free from the reign of humans.
Monsters and non-human races rejoiced as their fiercest competitor literally just vanished from the face of the planet, running amok through the empty cities and towns, and finally gaining the courage to bring themselves out into the wild.
But, while all rejoiced, Crystal, Rei, and Gaz did not.
Crystal and Rei had just lost the reason they went out in the first place, which was actually before the death of all humans, but that just made it more devastating.
Gaz spent his new life here trying to build a harem for himself, and in a flash, all of the women he had saved had disappeared into the gates of void.
There was no victory for the three.
As they walked back from the plains, no words were spoken, no magic was cast, no attacks were done, no levels were gained, no powers were used. Only a dreading silence, accompanied by the rising sun.
Victory for everyone, but none for them.
So, with their heads hung low and all of humanity gone, the trio walked back to the goblin village…or they were, until Crystal slowly began to realise that she couldn’t even feel her legs, until she finally collapsed, her body crashing against the dirt.
Ever so silent, Rei carried Crystal on her back as they went to Gaz’s now empty hideout, which was much closer in comparison to the village.
But nothing was over.
Now that the reigning humans were no longer present, the monsters were free to battle, roam, and do whatever they want with a higher chance of survival. Chaos ensued, overtaking the entire world.
For now, Crystal’s story was over, but Diana was still out there, searching for the treasure, all to come back to her.
How long that’ll take, who knows.
