The fissures spread out across the forest like scars, their jagged edges glowing faintly with the same sickly green light that radiated from the Lycan King's power. Aurora stood at the edge of one, her chest tightening as she felt the unnatural energy pulsing from within. "This is it," Anica said, their tone grim. "The energy's flowing directly to him. If we disrupt it here, it should weaken his hold on the Pact."
Nathan studied the fissure, his expression wary. "Should?"
"It's not an exact science," Anica admitted, their smirk faint. "But it's better than nothing."
Aurora gripped her blade tightly. "Then let's get to work."noveldrama
The team split into smaller groups, each tasked with targeting one of the fissures. Aurora, Cassian, Anica, and Nathan stayed together, their movements careful as they navigated the forest.
The air grew colder as they approached the next fissure, the unnatural chill seeping into their bones. Shadow beasts prowled nearby, their glowing eyes scanning the darkness. "Stay sharp," Nathan murmured, his blade already drawn.
Aurora raised her weapon, the glow of the Celestial Pact faint but steady. She could feel the bond stirring within her, its warmth pushing against the oppressive energy of the fissure.
As they moved closer, the shadow beasts lunged, their snarls breaking the tense silence.
The fight was quick but brutal. Cassian and Nathan moved with precision, their strikes coordinated as they drove back the creatures. Aurora focused on the fissure, her blade glowing brighter as she channeled the Pact's energy into the jagged opening.
The light collided with the darkness, sending a shockwave rippling through the forest. The fissure flickered, its glow dimming as the energy within began to dissipate.
"It's working," Anica said, their voice sharp with urgency. "Keep going!"
Aurora gritted her teeth, the bond's energy surging through her as she pressed forward. The fissure shuddered, its edges beginning to collapse.
But as the fissure closed, a wave of dark energy lashed out, striking Aurora and sending her tumbling to the ground.
"Aurora!" Cassian shouted, his voice filled with alarm as he rushed to her side.
"I'm fine," she said weakly, though her limbs felt heavy and her vision blurred. Cassian helped her to her feet, his grip steady. "We need to move. Now." Aurora nodded, her chest heaving as she steadied herself. "Let's finish this."
