Elyra and Dain approached a secluded village nestled in a hidden valley, their senses on high alert as they blended into the shadows. In the village square, a small gathering of werewolves murmured in low, urgent tones, their words drifting on the wind. "...disappeared without a trace," one villager said, his voice tinged with both reverence and fear. "Aurora's children-hers and Fenrir's. They were only babies, but everyone said they'd be the ones to end the Lycan King's reign."
Another villager shook his head, the wrinkles on his face deep with worry. "If they're alive, they'd be our only hope. But after all this time..."
Elyra's breath hitched as her heart pounded. She glanced at Dain, her golden eyes wide with shock.
"They're talking about us," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Dain's jaw tightened, his orange eyes scanning the crowd. "Keep listening."noveldrama
"...been two years since they vanished," the older villager continued. "The King's power has only grown. Without them, we're doomed."
Elyra pulled back, pressing her back against the stone wall of a building. "Two years?" she murmured, her voice trembling. "Dain, we've been gone seventeen years. How can that be?"
Dain crouched beside her, his expression grim. "The time difference between the worlds. The portal... it's warped time somehow."
The revelation sent a chill down Elyra's spine. She tried to steady her breathing, but the implications overwhelmed her. "If it's only been two years here... they could still be waiting for us. My parents." Her voice cracked. "But what if they don't recognize us? What if..." Dain gripped her shoulder, his touch grounding. "They'll know you," he said firmly. "And if they don't, we'll remind them."
The certainty in his voice gave Elyra a fragile hope. She nodded, but her mind swirled with questions as they retreated from the village, their shared silence heavy with anticipation and dread.
