Chapter 33 : The First Day of Congress.

Chapter 33 : The First Day of Congress.

Raven found himself seated within a church, on a nice comfortable sofa. Seeing a glass of wine before him and Vinter who was smoking a cigar. The Supreme God greeted Raven with a smile. Contrasting Raven's glare.

"Vinter."

"Raven. Care for a cigar?" Parking it to his lip as Vinter lit it up for him. The two took a moment for a quick drag, letting the smoke swirl in their mouths as they locked eyes on each other. Then exhaling it out as they broke off from each other's gaze.

"So did I die?"

"No. Just you lost your consciousness there. Remember my reward to you was a reset and a change to your life? That includes your causalities. The upcoming causality, especially for the one you're in. The President who chose to fight to the bitter end. She showed you the original ending. I'm giving you a chance to change it via the karma system. It works based on people's perception. Negative karma counts too." A pair of nuns came with silver plates that had mini swiss rolls that could be eaten with a single bite.

Raven took a bite. Tasting the rich sweetness of chocolate and vanilla intertwined. A meal but there's something else about this. Vinter always had weird ways of making his point to Raven.

"Is this one of the choices I need to think about?" Vinter's lips curled with the sight of his shiny teeth reflecting the lights of the sun. Forcing Raven to put on a pair of sunglasses to make sure he could see Vinter. If not he'd just see Vinter as the sun at this point.

"I'm glad that the person who underwent my trial still has some form of logic." A middle finger to that remark as the nuns giggled to the sight of Vinter taking a sip of his wine.

"So these causalities... Not your doing?"

"The causalities are my creations but... As I had told you before. You're not supposed to be going into these ones when you've done your fair share. This is by that former Supreme God who meddled. Knowing that I would do the reset. Even the peacefulness that you had searched had gone awry because of that dead bastard." That hint of subdued anger, Raven knew what it was but it's rare for Vinter to be worked up.

"Your body in that world is currently going through an intense surgery. Your body held up by sheer determination but of course, you will have plenty of scars. The threat grew bigger with different causalities. The other issue is that I did not make all of these causalities. The ones you've been entering has been a result of that former Supreme God's meddling with your trial. I made the causalities as a means to see what would a human do in those worlds."

"And how did you like the result?"

"Flawless. You followed the laws you were given but at times, you broke through the mold. It's what makes you so interesting to watch, Raven. Do you have any questions?"

"Even if it's not perfect, Vinter. I do appreciate it. You've been my only friend in the last life. Even if our relationship was made up of mutual goals rather than a conversation." Vinter chuckled as he patted Raven's shoulders.

"Your karma shop has been upgraded to the max. Which means everything costs higher but you've earned enough of it to keep yourself afloat. You can summon a new ally that you've not gotten from the gacha system. But of course it'll cost a lot. Take a Color from Abyss Gaze''s Banner. Rather than 50,000 they may cost up to 200,000 to offset the fact that you haven't unlocked them. Oh and... Prepare for weird causalities."

"How weird?"

"Try ladies with profound assets trying to woo you. Or causalities that have you be the villain but the heroes are so blundering incompetent or vice versa. There are causalities that focuses on women more, being in a women oriented society or a causality where you have to date monster girls." Raven nearly choked on his drink as he heard that, with Vinter patting his back to help Raven.

"Geez, what is this a fetishist causality?"

"The late Supreme God is a twisted bastard who wants to make sure you suffer the most. Just like the bodyguard causality. Though there are different ones which are the kind of a space opera. The idol manager and others that are much more relaxed. Less fighting and just you being able to enjoy a semblance of a normal life that you were robbed. Some use your Persona's life as a base. Hence the requirement for them."

"Thanks, I guess? Oh." A nun poured another glass for Raven.

"Thank you." She bowed as she went back to her line, with Raven just meeting Vinter's eyes. Seeing the place begin to vibrate, the ground dancing but the pair were calm.

"Have a good one, my friend."

Raven opened his eyes. Lungs gasping for air, the beeping noise was invasive. Lights of the ceiling blaring into his eyes. An oxygen mask over his face, glancing at Tracy who was by his side. Her eyes had puffed up, eyelids seemingly heavier than her usual appearance. His right eye was working fine but his left eye was completely blurry.

"Willers..." That was all Raven could muster before he felt his vocal chords shut down. Finding a keypad on his right hand, tapping the keys into the screen that was laid out in front of him.

'How bad is it?"

"You've broken 80% of the bones in your body. You suffered burns, 75% of your body's surface area. Internal organs damaged badly. Your kidneys are barely functioning, your lungs are strained from the stress and the puncture wounds. Your heart now beats irregularly. It has a weird rhythm, your vocal chords were torn. Your spinal nerves are damaged that you're close to being paralyzed waist down. The doctors weren't sure you could survive." Her hands trembled as she read the reports. There was a knock at the door where it Vesper came with flowers.

"Hey, Scorpio."

"Warcrest... Can the VS Suit use void energies to act as my life support?" Tracy glared to the Valors, her answer was readying to be that of anger but Warcrest's nod was enough for Raven.

"President, you can't be serious! You're going to fight again?!"

"Not a fight, Willers. An expedition to the Void... How's Bleossau?"

"It's safe... Countries all over the world are preparing Anti-Horror equipment. I was told by Vesper that it would be necessary."

"Warcrest. Explain the suit."

"Uses void energy to keep your life support on. Your body's in rough shape. You may have to wear it permanently President. We brought it."

"Put me into it." They did as they were told despite Tracy and the doctors pleading otherwise. A metal spine placed onto his back, digging deep into the flesh. Coiling into the nerves as Raven was standing upright. His grunts were silenced as his helmet pierced deep into the back of his head. His long white hair becoming a plume. The face plate fixed itself into place.

"How's it feel?"

"Better than lying down. How's the charge?" his voice was robotic. Digitalized to be somewhat close to his regular voice.

"I'll be by your side this time around. We'll need to replace your void crystals every 8 hours. The Ashen Wing Custom. It's been tuned to your combat style. I made sure that it's comfy on the inside. Business on the outside. Heavily reinforced. It's got 30% more weight to it but the boosters have been adjusted to compensate. Boosters on the shoulders and calves. Giving you more power but use the quick boost too much and you might turn yourself into a punching bag in there." Raven was testing his movements. Stretching his limbs, squatting to test the responsiveness.

"It's good. I won't need to eat and do anything else for a while right?"

"No need sleep. No need food. If you head into the void, the energy will be replenished in an instant. But..." Raven glanced at a notification.

"Willers, step out." Willers did as she was told while Raven took a deep breath.

"Abyss Gaze's Gloves. Smiling Mime's Mutilation Mastery and Arduous Gleam. Red Specter, Crimson King, Black Watcher, Iris Fluorescent. Save Raven's Eye and Faster Recovery." Raven said as three figures appeared. Red Specter with his weapons. Crimson King who wore a red coat, wielding a longsword. The Black Watcher who was the splitting image of Raven. Save for the purple hair that came from Iris Fluorescent. Corona, his beloved. Her purple hair swayed by the air conditioning, the first thing she did? Walk over to hold his face with tears in her eyes.

Raven's visor dimmed, signaling he had closed his eyes. Leaning over to Corona's chest. Her hands wrapped all around him, a kiss to Raven's forehead. Just this moment. Time could stop. He just hoped that time would stop. To see her again.

"Do you still... Love me? Even after knowing all of this?"

"I only look at you." Those were the words that brought relief as Raven glanced at Crimson King and Black Watcher who were present.

Corvus's eyes met with Raven's. His purple hair with the side braid, a cheerful smile. He looked older than Ciara was, presentable in every way. Not a scar on the young man's face or neck. Gloves that had a pair of glasses etched on the top of the glove.

"How old are you, Corvus?"

"25.." Corvus felt a little awkward but Raven just hugged him.

"I'm sorry. That I wasn't there for you. Our histories told different tales. I lost you and your mother. But in yours, you lost me. You became the one to succeed me. What I'm about to do is risky, can you join me on this?"

"You can call me dad, if that's what you want."

"It feels bizarre..Dad." Corvus spoke as Raven's metallic hands ruffled his hair a little. Despite the hand being metal, Corvus giggled like a child before Raven.

"Crimson... Can't say it's good to see you. Though I won't blame you if you want to shank me right now." Crimson King clicked his tongue as he scratched his head. Wearing a smile over his face rather than a scowl.

"A job's a job, Abyss. You know how I work. So what's the next job?"

"I'm a President and when's the congress?"

"Right now, Mister President." Raven turned to Vesper who was opening the window for Raven.

"Explain it to them. If Tracy asks who are they. Just say we opened the window and they snuck in. Corona, Corvus. I'll see you two later." Raven leaped out as he used the boosters to fly straight to where the congress was being held. Landing in front as he took off his face plate, the sight of Raven's face had them opening the doors for him. Putting it back on as he stepped inside, seeing the Senators preparing their debate on the first bill.

"The President has done enough! He should stay and recuperate instead of going into the void!"

"Don't you think he wouldn't stop? He went to Bleossau without hesitation!" They paused as cameras pointed to Raven who walked on over to his spot. The middle seat before all of the senators, silence ensued as Raven took his seat. When they all were going to stand Raven signaled them to take their seats.

"Sorry for being late. Just woke up from my coma."

"Your voice... Why is it like that?" A senator inquired.

"It's bad. My injuries are severe. My vocal chords are damaged and I am paralyzed from the waist down. Only way I can move is with the VS Suit but I need to change void crystal that powers it every few hours. This helmet is recording my lip movements and simulating my voice. I came here to get the first bill to pass. I can't sleep nor can I eat because that's how bad the injuries were. I got reckless but if we don't do anything. That type of crack can appear and cause greater problems. That's the biggest horror I faced and it's a pain in the ass. The horrors have a hierarchy to them. The Mother who is at the top, then her children who is at the middle. What's troubling is that the horror I fought. If they have more of that thing lying or moving about? It could destroy a city in a day. I plan on leading an expedition with Valor and a few mercenaries. The expedition will take place within two months from now. I know the citizens will feel uncertain but that's why the mercenaries and Valor will be taking the next two months to train our agents to the best of our abilities. What's worse is that I don't think it's by coincidence that the horrors made the cracks. I've met Mother." His words brought silence to the Senators that were present, citizens who were watching the livestream were sending plenty of reactions.

"Mother was able to find me that Friday evening. When I was at home, taking a moment to smoke and enjoy a good beer. She wants me. But I also believe that she will not stop until every human dies. What's the reason behind her grudge? I think I'll find my answers within the void. If the horrors of the void were the result of our own wrongdoings or something twisted that was done by us. We'll need to figure out how to deal with it. I know most of you won't feel safe knowing that your president is going into the battlefield. But remember, I'm only keeping the seat warm. During my void expedition, the Senators will have to convince my Four Advisors and my Secretary. Do that for any upcoming bills that may pop up. I'm restless. If I sit and do nothing it'll eat me alive. With what has happened, plenty of countries are offering their support but I doubt it'll be enough. I will be in the office up until the date of the expedition. We know too little and we're going up against an enemy that can reach us at any point in time. The Void Agency's head, Director Marlow has given consent to the intense training. The military and police need to be more than armed against such threats. I want them to be able to handle horrors to the best of their abilities. The strategies and techniques will be shared to all Void Agencies in the world." Raven spoke as he glanced at the cameras.

"I'm going to be wheelchair bound to the office for this week. I came here because I should put some of you at ease." Hearing a digitize cough as they see blood trickling from his faceplate.

"Sh.." He couldn't say what he wanted as Warcrest ran inside, seeing three cylinders pop up from the right trap section. Pulling them out and placing new ones. Hearing Raven gasping for air, seeing how weakened before their eyes. The three cylinders slide back into the body, releasing void energy that rejuvenated him.

"I need to hear the answers for these bills." Those words that sparked the conviction within the hearts of the Senators. Feeling his resolve and desperation as they began their debates once more. All three bills were turned into the Presidential Emergency Orders. All 60 Senators agreed to the three bills with the reasoning as they watched Warcrest carry Raven up in his arms. Seeing their President's body going limp. The glowing visor dimming out, like a flame that was forced to bear the heavy winds.

"He's fine. He's just unconscious. He's a reckless one. That's for sure. Thanks for your work Senators." Warcrest brought Raven back to the office. Where instead of a sofa, there was a bed where he could sit comfortably. Stepping out of the suit as Raven was laid on it. Corona and Corvus would be waiting be by his side. Tracy and the four advisors were busy with the next portion of the work. The Presidential Emergency Orders were being written to include all of what Raven viewed as necessary.

The helmet and the metal spine remained as Raven turned to Corvus and Corona.

"Sorry for the trouble, Corona. I didn't want to show you this but..." A gentle shush for him as Corona took a seat by his side while Corvus brought documents for himself.

"I'll do what I can on my end, dad. Don't be too worried. Your son's good at his work." A chuckle from Raven that ended up being a cough.

"You're my son. I know you'll do well. No matter what it is that you throw yourself into." Corona held Raven's hand, placing it to her cheek. Smiling at him where Raven could feel his mind remember the past. The promises he made with her.

"Specter and Crimson went to train the agents. So you just rest here, okay?"

"Yes ma'am..." Corona leaned on Raven's shoulder as she held a picture book of Corvus. Seeing the baby pictures of Corvus. Missing the chance to be a father. To change diapers, to get puked on. To miss the joys of seeing his children grow. Photos of Corvus as a toddler with Specter, Crimson and various other Colors acting as his relatives.

"This is his first day of school." Just glancing into the photos while Corvus was busy with the work. Showing the photos of Corvus in plenty of things. His graduation where the Colors took one large panorama photo. A photo of Corvus by the beach playing volleyball against his uncles and aunts from the Colors.

"Valedictorian of his university? Smart boy." Corvus ignored whatever words that reached his ears, despite Corona telling embarrassing stories of his childhood to Raven. How Corvus wet the bed when he was 6. How Corvus forgot his bus ride once. Then his first fight in school. Followed by his mercenary test after he graduated. Tracy pushed a tray filled to the brim with stacks of documents.

"Oh, Mister President... Who is.."

"My wife and my son. It's complicated. Just put the documents on the table Willers." Willers placed it on the table, her eyes meeting with Corvus. Who had another set of documents to the left.

"These are done. Review these with the advisors. When the review is completed, refer back to the President for confirmation." Tracy took a moment to glance at the stack, seeing the footnotes of different articles, the references cited according to proper citations along with brief summaries of the articles on the sticky notes attached on the top corners.

"Understood." Watching Corvus put the stacks on the table, fixing his glasses as he went to work. Documents from the stack decreased within mere seconds, Corvus's fountain pen danced on them as sticky notes were slowly taken away. A moment to glance at the laptop to look into things. Searching for articles from scholars, articles from those involved in the business. Theories of whatever he was looking into.

"Thanks, for taking my work son. Do as he says, Willers. I don't know how long I'll be conscious..." Raven said as they see the lights of his visor dimming out. Corona stayed by Raven's side. Singing a lullaby for him as her husband had gone silent.
