57- Skadi's First Match

57- Skadi's First Match

Skadi and a man named Turg had stepped onto the platform. Turg, appeared to be a young man that was nearly six feet tall but if Skadi had a guess would only weigh in around a hundred fifty pounds, a skinny lanky man. The man's skin was dark and his ears were long and pointed, long enough that they had a slight droop to them as the protruded from his head. His face was covered by a dark scarf but his arms were bare and also sported leather armored pants, Turg was a dark elf and was audibly booed by numerous others in the crowd, who were undoubtedly, other elves. Skadi was more of an enigma those who had the identify skill were still left bewildered as her race was incredibly rare. When the match began Turg immediately raised his arms allowing his hand to be limp at the wrist. A green substance started to amass building upon itself. Curiosity got the better of Skadi as she waited and watched to see what would happen, and after a few more seconds a green wingless drake formed. The drake was six feet tall at the shoulder and green liquid dripped from its mouth as it roared as a challenge. Turg smiled, "Lets see how you fair shall we?" Skadi began throwing ice bullets out seemingly at random as both Turg and the drake dodged them with ease. "What are you aiming at," laughed Turg. The drake began to shoot its green liquid towards Skadi who simply dodged out of the way as well while continually throwing out more ice. Skadi then made a move with quite a bit more precision, she threw out a large block of ice and immediately used her icy road ability to close the gap between them in an instant, the drake and Turg had to dodge out of the way of the ice but the drake dodge right into the incoming Skadi who grabbed the drake around the throat as ice began to encase it. Once completely incased in the ice she shattered it. "Tsk," Turg kissed his teeth as two more of the green substance began to bubble into more drakes. "Looks like I now know the scope of your abilities," Skadi taunted, "but this match is now over." Skadi motioned above Turg's head whose face widened with surprise as he came to the realization. 'Her ice bullets weren't just thrown at random! She was setting me up for a trap,' thought Turg. There were hundreds of ice shards above Turg's head that now covered most of the platform, "With this, it's game over," Skadi announced. [Avalanche] The ice shards came crashing down with a deafening roar as the shattered on the ground they created a massive fog that made it impossible for the crowd to see through. Once the dust from all the ice lifted, they were able to see Skadi in the center of the platform standing over Turg who was face down and unconscious. The crowd elated by the show of power roared in excitement that Skadi was moving on to the next match. The women in the crowd were exceptionally audible happy to cheer on a female capable of defeating all the men.

<[Avalanche] level up>

<[Icy Road] level up>

Skadi raised her first in the air while walking off the platform, Soren opened up his arms as he approached her and they embraced momentarily, "good job out there, you have some really cool moves," Soren praised. She pressed her soft lips up against his neck right below his ear, "You'd had better fight me for real when it's our turn, it has been a long time since we last fought earnestly." Skadi left Soren there scratching the his cheek while she left him there alone, 'I forget how competitive that woman is.' The next several matches were not as one sided as Skadi's first match, everyone in this block seemed to be fairly even. If one side was far more powerful than the other, it makes it fairly obvious who should be in the next bracket but due to management issues or the contestants failure to pass the rank exam, which is required for B ranks and above, they have remained C ranks. Two such contestants were Soren and Skadi, they continually flaunted their fighting capabilities every match they participated in, and since their attacks are so versatile many could not estimate their stats, and had a hard time determining what their innate abilities were vice their magic prowess. Bruno was sitting in the stands with all the other guildmembers that were either eliminated or had yet to participate, and there was one such individual keeping an unusually close eye on the two of them, "Bruno," the woman began, "How come those two haven't participated in the B rank exam yet?"

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Bruno fingered the fur that dangled off the end of his chin, "Well, they haven't been a part of the guild for long. Soren's been a member the longest but was so focused on his own personal missions that he was never able to take part in any of the guild duties. That being said though, he has contributed quite a lot to the guild already, as a special mission of sorts I told him if he met any talented people along his way to send them to us. Since then he had a talented alchemist become indebted to him so we employed her causing our revenue to skyrocket, he had four new members join us as well. Skadi down there is strong and she introduced herself to me some time ago at behest of Soren so I was able to promote her to C rank before the tournament, but Tempest the woman that won D block tournament, I just met but I'd wager she is stronger than what we saw also. He also recruited a merchant, who used to be a smuggler, but now we can export some of the potions being made once we get her an assistant. Lastly, and I don't think Soren knows this yet, but his brother Ness the metallurgy magician decided to join our ranks not that long ago either. I've sent him on a couple of quests to see how strong his aptitude is before giving him a starting point, either E or D."

"That is quite a lot in a short amount of time, when do you think they'll start coming to do more guild things? I want to see how I fair against them, with how it looks I don't even see the need to pull my punches."

"You had better pull your punches it takes a long time to get to the A rank tier and I need them operational Enya." Enya smiled without saying anything, but Bruno had a feeling he would have to keep a much sharper eye on her from now on, Enya was a bit battle crazy.

The C block tournament continued unabated, the contestants only rest was between matches, unlock the D block a measure of one's strength also lied within their stamina so rests were limited, but there would be a small intermission before the quarter finals and on. They continued the trend that once the match was over, if needed, would provide healing magic and mana potions so the playing field would at least be even. Soren and Skadi continued to demonstrate their powers through the quarter finals neither one seemed to struggle at all, every match they left without even being out of breath. The guilds did not post the bracket for everyone to see, but they had hoped that Soren and Skadi would not be paired against each other until the finals, the quality and ferociousness of their combat was quite a bit higher than the other contestants. When the semi final match ups were announced everyone was elated to find that Soren was paired against a dwarf wearing heavy armor who was incredibly resilient, so much so that Soren was unable to force him off the platform, but instead had to knock him unconscious. Skadi had been matched up with a bipedal seal type beast folk, which forced her to use more of her wind powers over her ice because it seemed extremely resistant to her cold magic. The two of them had fought enough to increase their level twice and their fighting style once. The final match of the day had finally arrived and everyone was on their toes to see what the two of them could really do as the announcer shouted through a magically augmented voice, "Get ready for the final match SOREN VERSUS SKADI!!!"

"You had better bring your all," Skadi hissed
