With Goku and Ginyu several minutes earlier…
"I have to admit.. Even though I'm still pissed off that you kidnapped my son, I'm having a lot of fun. It's been a long time since I could cut loose and really enjoy a fight like this." Kakarot said as he wiped some blood from his chin with his armband. Across from him Captain Ginyu smiled.
"Likewise. I may not look it but I'm quite old. I've seen more battles than you could possibly imagine in my lifetime. So by default I've also seen a lot of different fighters. But I've never seen any quite like you, saiyan…" He said honestly, while eyeing his opponent with caution.
Kakarot chuckled but kept his guard up. "How so?" He asked with a light smile. Ginyu jerked his thumb to his chest. "There's no doubt in the cosmos that my power level is higher by at least a quarter of your own. Not only that but I have far more experience in battle than you do.. By all rights I should be winning this fight. Yet here we are, dead even. Actually.. I'd say you somehow even have the upper hand..." He admitted with a bitter frown.
Kakarot didn't seem too flattered by the compliment. "Power levels are bullshit. You kidnapped my son, Ginyu. No amount of power in the universe could save you from me. I'd rise to any heights to save him and make you pay. I'll give you one chance to turn him over safely and walk away. We don't have to be enemies just because this Frieza guy's a racist dick."
Ginyu's lips formed a thin line. He narrowed his eyes as he spoke. "I'll not have you talk that way about Lord Frieza in my presence, saiyan. You should know your place. My Lord is the strongest force in the entire universe, to him even all of you bastards combined are nothing." He revealed. At this Kakarot's eyes visibly widened and his mouth hang open slightly.
"You're kidding me.." His voice was soft but it was carried across the distance between them by a steady wind.
He had thought they made incredible progress since leaving Earth. They had all become so much stronger than he ever thought possible before.
Ginyu shrugged. "Believe me or not, it doesn't matter. Even I, don't fully know how strong Lord Frieza truly is anymore. He grows stronger every year and he hasn't assumed his true form in almost a decade. Do you see? His true power is too great and terrible to be controlled!" Captain Ginyu yelled with reverence.
Kakarot's mind raced but his face remained stoney. A pregnant silence filled the air for several long moments until eventually he spoke. "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Evil cannot go unpunished." He reasoned. "Haaa!" He yelled, pulling back an arm and placing the other in front of him as he charged forward at his alien opponent. Ginyu braced himself and set his feet in the ground.
When Kakarot arrived he kicked out with a leg sweep that the Captain deftly jumped over, bringing his knees up to his chest.
With a grunt he kicked forward in a drop kick, intending to pulverize the much smaller man between his feet and the ground but the saiyan nimbly twisted and weaved out of the way of his kick.
Ginyu's feet impacted the solid rock beneath them and sent an ever growing network of cracks throughout it.
Kakarot performed a backwards handspring to create some distance between the two of them before he charged at the purple being again, not letting up in the slightest. The whites of Ginyu's eyes visibly swelled as the man was unable to keep up with the saiyan's relentless and unorthodox moves. He brought his hands up in an X for defense. 'Little shit.. So fast!' He yelled internally as Kakarot broke through his guard with a three hit combo.
Ginyu managed to block the first punch well enough, and he even anticipated the follow up kick to his ribs which he deftly skirted around, unfortunately for him; However, there was no way for him react in time to avoid the vicious uppercut that sent the alien skidding away for several feet.
Ginyu's head snapped back and blue blood flew from his mouth and nose. "Gaahhhh!.." When he was eventually able to stop himself from stepping backwards he shook his head. The horned alien wiped away the warm runny substance and huffed.
Ginyu frowned at the man before saying. "Good and evil are a point of view. Who are you to decide what punishment fits what crime? The only thing that gives you that right is power, boy. You're not some chosen emissary of God. You're just strong enough to make people do or believe in whatever you think is right. You're no different from Lord Frieza. Actually You're worse because at least he doesn't deny who he is, saiyan."
Goku looked like he was having some sort of internal struggle when he clicked his tongue and shook his head, "I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong, I agree to a fault. People have to agree on what makes someone good or evil. At the end of the day if i wasn't as strong as I am I couldn't make a difference. And with great power comes a responsibility to do what's right. As far as that goes, it's not nearly as complicated as you're making it out to be, Ginyu." He accused.
Kakarot glared at his opponet. "Most people know that if you hurt others, impose on their way of life or take innocent lives, then someone will stop you, whether it's me or someone else who fights for justice."
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Ginyu simply laughed and crossed his arms, cocking his head to the side slightly. "If that's truly what you believe, saiyan.. Why is it that you travel with a bunch of mass murders?" He asked with an accusing smirk. Kakarot's eyes narrowed as he processed the man's words.
Captain Ginyu continued unabated, "Who knows how many were killed by the space pirate Turles, yet you allied with him in order to gang up on someone you could never hope to defeat on your own. Isn't that right?" He asked rhetorically.
kakarot said nothing, prompting Ginyu to continue his monolog. "All they have to do is say sorry and you'll forgive them as long as they help you? Doesn't sound very heroic.. Oh and surely you know what Vegeta and his little band of thugs used to do while they were in the force.. They slaughtered people by the billions just for fun! I was there in part for some of the endless hours of screaming and torture... And you know your darling older brother had no small part in that himself…"
"Shut up!" Kakarot yelled, unleashing his colorless Ki as he did so. His clothes and hair levitated as his power peaked once more. "My brother is trying his best to atone for what he did and things have changed! Besides it was Frieza that set them on that path to begin with. As for the others.. I'll do whatever I have to, to protect my son for now. Eventually they'll change their ways or answer to me as well." Kakarot aid with fire in his eyes.
Ginyu chuckled before he took a battle stance. "So it's your way or the highway huh, saiyan? Do you know what they call a hero who works alone?... A villain." He taunted. "As I said.. You're more like Lord Frieza than you know." The purple alien chuckled at him.
Kakarot's eyes widened, heartbeat quickening and a bitter look crossed his face. He took in a deep breath and tried to calm his nerves.
This man not only took his pride and joy from him but he was really starting to get under his skin. He couldn't fatally harm the man however, or he would risk never being able to find out where he'd hidden Gohan. It was a very infuriating situation.
Suddenly Kakarot's eyes widened and his head jerked towards the direction where he had previously felt Turles's power spiking erratically. "Oh no.. what is that?" The saiyan questioned with a shudder. "I've never felt a power like this before…"
Captain Ginyu was unable to sense power and thus, wasn't fully aware of the scope or magnitude of the saiyans' power now that they had transformed. All he really knew was that his opponent had dropped his guard and he capitalized on the situation. "Don't get distracted fool! Hiyaaah!"
In the city nearby with Bulma…
The sudden spike in malicious Ki in the air startled the blue haired Earling awake. She sat up and gasped, wincing as she did so. She was mostly healed by this point but she was still pretty sore. That purple bastard that had ambushed her really did a number on her before taking her.. son…
"Oh my God, Gohan!" She yelled in desperation before blasting off towards where she felt her husband and that purple monster fighting.
She couldn't help but be aware that she was noticeably stronger than before as she raced through the air superman style at speeds she never thought possible. It didn't take her long to reach her intended destination. She zeroed her sights in on the captain of Frieza's elite fighting force and charged straight for him. "Hey Ginyu!" She yelled, surprising the man.
He turned around wide eyed just in time to see the furious woman rushing at him surrounded by a Comet of blue energy.
"How dare you lay your hands on a lady!" She cried out as she rocketed into the man fists first, driving him an untold distance into the crust of the planet. She dusted off her hands and turned to her panting husband. "You.. look like you've seen better days, baby." She admitted with a half smile.
Kakarot for his part just gave her a closed eye laugh. "Ahaha.. I'll be OK. *huff* *huff* Thanks for the save back there. I don't know what happened.. I had him but then.." He trailed off.
"You lost focus." Bulma finished for him. The siayan nodded in shame. She shrugged in indifference and looked her husband in the eyes. "It happens sometimes. But don't you forget what we're fighting for. Our son needs his father." She said with conviction and determined eyes.
Kakarot furrowed his brow and sighed before a calmness overtook him. "You're right." He nodded. "I know I haven't been around much lately but.. I hope he knows I'll always love him." Bulma gave her husband a sad look. "Of course he does, Kakarot. You're all he ever talks about. He wants to be just like you. A hero." She said with a wave of her hand and a small chuckle.
Kakarot looked carefully at his wife for the first time in a long time. Her skin seemed unnaturally vibrant and healthy, her hair was a deeper, almost indigo blue. Her body just seemed to glow. Probably because of the tonic she created, he figured. Her muscles had grown slightly, giving her a more toned, capable shape than before. He swallowed hard as he realized with a blush that despite the situation and the blood coating her hair and clothes he found the woman very attractive.
But did she still feel the same?.. Even though she looked young and healthy and stronger than ever.. There was a tired, wariness in her eyes he hadn't seen before. In that moment he wanted nothing more than to hold her and remind her that she too, was his world. Just as surely as their son was. "Bulma, I lo-.."
Unfortunately he was interrupted as a moment later an angry and dangerous captain Ginyu erupted from the ground in a shower of maroon energy. Thick, throbbing veins appeared sporadically across his head.
"I'd say that was a cheap shot but I guess I owed you that one, young woman. I hit you much harder than was rightfully necessary before and then I ran off with your offspring. I could see how you may feel some type of way about me after all of that. However.." He growled menacingly. "You're not going to interfere with my mission. This is your one warning to flee with your life. You can even take your son with you." He said honestly.
The two parents' eyes widened in shock at the unusually considerate offer. For a villain, Captain Ginyu seemed unusually communicative and honest about his goals and opinions. It was somewhat refreshing compared to the schmeing shenanigans of the saiyan Turles.
Bulma for her part huffed and crossed her arms. "Oh yeah? Then why did you even bother to kidnap him in the first place. And what exactly is your mission? I noticed how you conveniently left my husband out of your generous offer." She put a hand on her hip and favored her right leg, tapping her foot as she finished speaking.
Captain Ginyu smiled sweetly before he shrugged. "Insurance of course. Not even most saiyans would endanger one of their own young and I couldn't be sure that fool Turles would hold up his end of the bargain.. I didn't want to be ganged up on by you flys, you see. Even trash presents a problem if enough of it accumulates in one spot. As for your second question…" He paused for dramatic effect…
"Nothing too ambitious. I just have to eradicate these bastard saiyans for my Lord Frieza, that's all." He answered nonchalantly. Bulma narrowed her eyes. "Not good enough. Repent your evil ways. Actually you know what? No. Don't even bother. I'm sick of people like you threatening my son. You're not worth saving." She answered dismissively.
Beside her Kakarot frowned. "Bulma.." He said stepping forward and regarding the woman with concern. "You don't mean that." The woman rounded on him and glared. "I do, Kakarot. For our son there's no one I won't eliminate. Are you with me or not?" She asked, pointing a finger at the saiyan's chest. Surprise covered his face for several seconds before he schooled his features and nodded. "Yes."
Bulma turned 180 degrees and faced Ginyu once more. At this point the man had lowered himself back to ground level and was standing arms crossed, several meters away from the two. "Then let's get this son of a bitch." The woman instructed.
Ginyu's mouth formed a thin line as he took a defensive stance. 'This may be troublesome.. I could take either one of them alone.. But together they'll have a distinct advantage. What to do..' He debated internally.
Unfortunately he didn't have any more time to contemplate the situation as the duo charged at him, Kakarot taking the lead and Bulma acting as support.
