Flying through the air at top speed the bi-species couple that was Kakarot and Bulma arrived on a small island with a palm tree. The island was surrounded by a ring of sand. A small Oasis of freshwater could be found relatively close to the large, sturdy plant. On the rather quaint island a small cabin made of pink wood had been erected. A sign hung atop The house reading 'Kame-House!' To be entirely honest, the whole scene seemed a bit peculiar but one had to admit it radiated tranquility and the breeze coming off of the sea was cool and invigorating.
Immediately the red door of the small pink house exploded open and out ran a curious looking child. He donned a green gi that seemed a bit too big for the boy, and a large red hat. The boy seemed to be close to four years in age. He had a happy spirit about him as he sprinted toward the duo. Atop The boy's red hat, sat a ball which shone a bright orange with four red stars.
Perhaps even stranger still was the tail wagging in a zigzag behind the boy. "Daddy! Mommy!'' The boy tackled his parents with all the love and joy that only a child could muster. They embraced him and sprinkled kisses on the boy's forehead and cheeks. He giggled and laughed. From the house came three more figures albeit at a much more reserved pace.
The first to reach the porch was the bald monk, Krillin. He smiled and waved at the group. The second was an old man with both arms behind his back smiling from ear to ear. This was Grandpa Gohan. The third was an even older fellow with a cane in one hand and the other hand tucked comfortably behind a large shell on his back. This was the teacher of the turtle hermit school Roshi, Gohan's first true master. The group exchanged hellos and welcomes. "Thanks for watching our son krillin. Grandpa. Master roshi." Said the Saiyan, bowing to each as he did. The Saiyan’s adoptive grandfather spoke first.
"Think nothing of it my boy. We all very much enjoy the company of my great grandson." The old man finished with an eye smile. The others nodded in agreement. Kakarot smiled. "Nevertheless, I should repa..." Kakarot's eyes widened to the size of saucers as he trailed off. Mystical bells rang out magically in the background as a power level higher than any he had ever sensed slammed into his mind.
At first he feared piccolo had somehow used the dragon balls to become more powerful than ever before. But something felt.. off. This power felt more evil somehow, as if the person it belonged to wouldn't bat an eye at slaughtering children. Unfortunately Kakarot's musings were not far off.. whoever this person was, Kakarot was about to meet them face to face.
This was evidenced by the fact that the power was rapidly approaching at phenomenal speeds. Sure enough within a few moments the stranger landed. He wore Saiyan armor, something that caught Kakarot's attention long before the stranger's feet had made contact with the beach. The Earth raised saiyan couldn't stop his jaw from hanging ajar. "You're.. a.. Saiyan." He gasped.
The stranger gave a big Hearty laugh. " HAHAHA! You're not wrong.. Kakarot." If possible, Kakarot's face showed even more surprise. "How do you..?" The stranger cut the young man off with a scoff. "Obviously you have forgotten.. how else would this backwater planet still be crawling with insects. At first I feared you were killed by some unusually high power level but in your great.. ape.. for.... KAKAROT!? Where the fuck is your tail!?" The stranger bellowed. His long hair seemed to bristle behind him, anger apparent in his features.
Kakarot frowned. "Now you hold on. Just who the hell are you and why are you here? I'll answer your questions, but only if you answer mine as well deal?" The alien growled but crossed his arms and nodded nonetheless. In his mind he figured this was the fastest way to get some real answers, even if he'd rather just blast them all and be done with it. He was on a mission. And he could not fail. The Saiyans depended on it.
The younger of the two saiyans continued, "Now I don't know how you know my name.. I was under the impression my race was destroyed by Frieza.. but I'm afraid you don't know me at all. This is my home now, and I'd just as soon die defending it than harm it."
The stranger shook his head. He pointed accusingly at Kakarot. "This is all wrong. We're supposed to conquer planets Kakarot not live amongst these weaklings. Where is your pride!? I'll start from the beginning." The stranger sighed and composed himself. "My name is Raditz. I.. am your big brother." Everyone present gasped in shock, but they allowed the stranger to continue.
"You're not wrong, our people were mostly exterminated by a tyrant named Frieza but a handful of us survived thanks to our father. He foreseen our Lord betraying our race and managed to save 6 of us including yourself. Though he himself.. didn't make it. But back to the point. You. You were supposed to reduce this place to rubble. I can only assume the humans prevented your transformation by severing your tail because, NO self respecting Saiyan would intentionally lose what makes him one of us!" Raditz spat with venom.
Kakarot nodded. "They did remove my tail but I'm thankful for it. I know what I would have become. My grandfather took me in and raised me to be a good man. And that's the life I've chosen so you can forget about all this nonsense! So.. ill ask you once more. why are you here?"
Raditz huffed, taking a deep breath to calm himself. "I'm here.. because we need your help. Frieza must pay for what he's done." He winced, as if asking for help stung in a literal sense. Kakarot merely nodded. "I expected as much. My friends and I will do whatever we can to help bring this evil to an end. But this planet and it's inhabitants will not be harmed."
Raditz looked dumbfounded. 'What a bunch of pussies..' He thought internally. 'I'm not sure I can vouch for Vegeta and Nappa.. but I suppose I can play nice.. for now.'
"Fine Kakarot. I'll contact our Saiyan allies and relay our coordinates. We have a year to get our asses whipped into shape. My friends are many times more powerful than myself. Oh and frieza?.. He may as well be a God if the rumors are true. "How many capable fighters can you round up on this backwater planet?"
Kakarot frowned, disapproving of his alleged brother's belittlement of his chosen home world. "That would take time.. I think.. we should go see the guardian of Earth." Grandpa Gohan and Roshi gasped as the man finished speaking.
"Goku are.. you sure that's such a good idea?" His grandfather asked tentatively. Krillin crossed his arms and frowned. "Goku.. I'll stick by your side no matter what.. but are you willing to vouch for this guy? I mean you only just met him for crying out loud. And how do we even know he's really your brother?"
The young Saiyan merely nodded though it seemed reluctant in nature. "I'm sure, Krillin. Trust me you guys."
*Somewhere far above Earth's crust*
"Hmm.. I see the issue here young Kakarot. And you say this.. Frieza will target Earth in a matter of 2 years if we don't stop him?" The wizened old man that was Kami asked while rubbing his chin. Kakarot scratched his head sheepishly. "Weeeell.. not exactly. He'll be targeting this sector of the cosmos though and from there it's only a matter of time until he finds Earth. Besides we have to stop this guy. He's pure evil."

"yes.. I see. And I'm assuming you're not just doing this for revenge?" He asked with a stern look, to which Kakarot Shook his head. "..In that case we will do all we can to help bring this tyrant down. Not only for my wards but for the countless Innocents slaughtered in Frieza's name." Kakarot and Kami, guardian of the earth, shared a hug before Kakarot flew over to his elder brother.
Raditz crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. "And?" Kakarot grinned a goofy grin and nodded savagely. "He agreed to help us and let us use the lookout for training. He's even having Korrin prepare senzu beans." Kakarot chipped optimistically. "Senzu, what?!" Raditz barked.
"Never mind." Kakarot frowned with a dismissive wave of his hand. "As for the fighters.. well I'll get the word out and let's just see who all shows up." The two brothers parted ways. The plan was to get as big a group as possible to challenge frieza when the time came.
Raditz's teammates Nappa and Vegeta (the prince of saiyans himself) would be bringing a ship that could carry them and as many volunteers as they could muster deep into space. There, they would plan an attack to ambush Frieza on his way to sector seven within a year's time. Sector seven of course being the section of the cosmos that happened to contain Earth and many other planets.
Kakarot spent nearly a week scouring the earth for all the warriors willing to fight for their cause, starting of course with his friends. Convincing Piccolo had especially taken a lot of work.
After contacting Vegeta and Nappa the group took to Kami's lookout for a head count. All in all a total of 10 fighters were gathered. Kakarot introduced the other 8 to Raditz with a quick nod to each. There was Krillin, a short, bald monk. Bulma, Kakarot’s wife. Chi-Chi, a brunette princess raised on fire mountain. Yamcha, a former bandit who coincidentally was 'involved’ with chi chi. Gohan, Kakarot’s own son. Piccolo, Kakarot’s temporary ally and at one point his worst foe. Tien, a three eyed man from a rival school known as the cranes. And finally Tien's life long friend Chaizou.
Gero and his soldiers agreed to defend the Earth from any potential threats while the Z warriors away which left them all feeling alot better about leaving for an indefinite amount of time. "Alright everybody gather around! First off thank you all for coming. I know what I'm asking of you by bringing you all here. And I want you to know I really appreciate you all putting your lives on the line like this.
After introducing his brother to everyone gathered and receiving varying reactions Kakarot decided he would get straight to the point. "Hey everyone! Now I know that in the past some of us have had our differences.", he said looking primarily at Piccolo. "But I really hope we can move past that now. For all our sakes. Friezas a threat not just to us but to our whole universe. So who's with me!? Let's show this evil tyrant that justice will not go undone!" The black haired Saiyan roared. "YEAHHH!" Came the collective shout of agreement from his allies.
"We have one year to train here on Earth and get our affairs in order and then, we'll be going into space for at least another year. We begin training immediately. Everyone find a partner!!" After a bit of scrambling around everyone more or less had their sparring buddy. The less part being Piccolo and Raditz who both decided to be stubborn asses. The partners for everyone else were as followed:
Chi chi+Yamcha
Bulma+Gohan
Tien+chazou
Kakarot+krillin
"Come on guys, pleeease? Pretty pleeeease? I'm begging here!" Kakarot pleaded with Raditz and Piccolo to reconsider training as individuals as he knew that training with the team would help hone their skills and point out their weakness, plus allowing them to study from multiple sources giving rise to greater improvements in their strength and skill overall.
Raditz was the first to respond. "Absolutely no way in hell Kakarot! I'm not training with the green bug man, or you or any of your pathetic friends. God I wouldn't even get any stronger training with them, they're so weak!" The older saiyan bellowed and stomped his foot. Kakarot raised an eyebrow. "Hey that's not true.. what they lack in power they more than make up for in teamwork and ingenuity. I'm being completely honest when I say with a couple months of hard work these guys could even take you down! Hahaha!"
This in turn caused Raditz to growl more. "Why you little…!" Piccolo crossed his arms and grunted. "While I absolutely loathe the idea of having anything in common with this smelly brute, I have to agree with him. I train alone and besides, no one here besides the two of you would be any real challenge. kakarot blinked a few times in surprise before he leaned back and shrugged. "Suit yourself. Don't say I didn't offer!"
With that he merrily bounded over to his best buddy Krillin so the two could start in on some serious training. Raditz and Piccolo both watched the optimistic saiyan skip away with open contempt before they realized they were mirroring each other's mannerisms, causing them to snarl at one another before stomping off in separate directions.
The spars started off slow with many of the Z warriors lacking experience or being rusty overall due to the long years of peace. Most of them did stretches and threw a few punches and kicks before they got into the heavy stuff. For Krillin and Kakarot though it wasn't much of a problem as each of them had more or less kept up on their training.
Kakarot had fallen behind a little more than he would have liked due to raising Gohan and spending time with Bulma but he wouldn't miss having his wife and son for the whole world. He looked briefly over at them and smiled, determination, pride and love swelling within him. With his family as motivation and his heavy weighted clothing, as well as his best friend pushing him to his limits he would quickly make up for the training time he'd lost out on over the last few years.
Settling into a stance as Krillin did the same he couldn't help but laugh, trembling in anticipation. "Ahh yeah this is great! I'm excited!" Krillin chose to take his weights off to even the playing field a bit but by and large his sentiments mirrored his friend's. In contrast to Goku, Krillin had been training harder than ever the last few years due in part to some insecurities he had ever since being left so firmly behind by his alien friend.
Though he would never admit it out loud, the last world tournament had left him feeling rather useless and more of a liability these days than anything. He was determined to make that not true any longer. There was an unspoken signal and the two master martial artists immediately set to work exchanging blows. It was clear that Kakarot had a distinct advantage due to his raw power being higher than his human friend's however..
The earthling was the superior of the two by far when it came to skill. The shorter man deftly dodged and countered the majority of Kakarot's moves while landing some clean hits of his own. "Wow Krillin! You're amazing! I had no idea you'd gotten this strong!" Kakarot praised. Krillin laughed sheepishly and smiled in response while bounding backward to put some distance between them. "I'm sure you're probably taking it easy on me Goku.. knowing you, you're probably wearing weights even heavier than mine! But I won't just let you leave me in the dust! HIYAAAH!"
Krillin rushed forward unexpectedly leaving the saiyan unable to put up his guard in time. With a powerful series of jabs followed by a bone crushing drop kick to the sternum the small but mighty warrior blasted the saiyan away, causing him to tumble through the air for several dozen meters. He landed in an unceremonious heap on a portion of the lookout that was relatively close to his brother's position..
Raditz snarled at his brother's downed frame. "How exactly is it Kakarot that a proud Saiyan warrior such as yourself is getting your ASS kicked by some midget baldy?!" He yelled. To this Krillin bristled in anger and prepared to retaliate when a sudden spike in Kakarot's ki left the words dying in the bald monk's mouth.
"Now that's enough Raditz! I'm sick and tired of you. You come to MY home and insult MY friends. This ends now, we're gonna fight and after I win, you're gonna have a little more respect for the life on this planet, understand?" The normally kind hearted Saiyan demanded, letting some of his more 'Kakarot' self slip through than usual.
Raditz smirked and crossed his arms. "At long last my brother's Saiyan blood boils. So you do have some of our father's spine after all? And what happens when I win, Kakarot?" His long haired brother asked mockingly. Kakarot narrowed his eyes, looking deeply into his brother's own. "Not gonna happen"
