It had been a few days since Kakarot and Co had begun their travels at many times FTLS through space, and already their relationship with the two royal saiyans had gotten off to a shaky start.
Vegeta and Nappa shared a training chamber that was by and large on its own in the leftmost part of the ship. Kakarot suspected there may have been something special about that chamber, or perhaps at the very least it had belonged to the ship's captain before the saiyans no doubt disposed of him and commandeered his ship.
The reason for his suspicion was primarily due to what commodities existed around that chamber which included the likes of the kitchen, the healing chambers, the cockpit, and many luxury areas.
On the contrary, the rest of the chambers were all on the right side of the ship near the crew's quarters, storage area, and other less extravagant accommodations. That was just as well as none of the Z warriors really saw 'eye to eye' on things so to speak. Even Piccolo chose to primarily remain close to the Earthlings he at least knew wouldn't murder him for sneezing. The large saiyan especially seemed.. Unstable.
Since there were five chambers to split between the ten the Z-warriors trained in pairs of two usually in the form of:
ChixYamcha
ChioatzuxTien
Gohan×Bulms
PiccoloxRaditz
KakarotxKrillin
Although they occasionally all swapped training partners for a bit in order to get fresh perspective and stay on top of their game.
The first day went by well enough with everyone mostly keeping to themselves. But on the second day the Z warriors had been doing a joint exercise for training, something they agreed to do three times a week. They were a few hours into their session when Vegeta and Nappa interrupted. Vegeta yelled some inaudible obscenities before throwing open the chamber doors.
Everyone paused in their activities which primarily consisted of teamwork exercises or in the case of Piccolo and Raditz, a straight up knock down drag out fight. Vegeta scanned the group with an impatient expression. Then, looking at the humans he smirked and flexed his Ki a bit in an attempt to intimidate the gathered warriors. For most, it honestly worked. Vegeta was a true monster and everyone present recognized this.
However the Earthlings were all extremely talented in their own right and they had come far. They weren't simply going to back down and allow the saiyans to bully them. Krillin took a step toward the intimidating saiyan, with Yamcha and Tien taking their place a few steps behind on either side of the short bald monk. Of course it was only natural the Earth's inhabitants stayed together no matter what while in this strange new world, or lack thereof. Just in case.
"Vegeta. Are you here to train?" Krillin asked simply, holding out his hand in a clear proposition for a peaceful encounter. He tried to project confidence and strength but he had a feeling his voice was trembling as bad as his hand was. The saiyan prince looked at the man and frowned before crossing his arms.
"Beat it baldy! I didn't come here for you and your friends. I came here for Kakarot and his brother..." He paused as he looked over at Piccolo, who returned his gaze with narrowed eyes. Vegeta smirked. "... And maybe the Namekian." He said matter of factly.
Piccolo, Raditz and Goku spat in disgust at the mention of each of their respective names for various reasons.
Krillion flushed red but there wasn't much he could do in the situation honestly. He had tried right? Krillin sighed and turned around making to leave but Yamcha of all people stepped forward seemingly having gotten over much of his insecurities over the past year or so.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
"Now wait just a minute, buddy." He stated demandingly while pointing at Vegeta. The saiyan raised an eyebrow at the man. Quite frankly he was honestly surprised the dumb looking human had the balls. Tien stepped forward and put a hand on his chest. "Easy there.. Let's not make this too much of a problem alright? We have to try and get along so we can all get stronger."
Yamcha huffed and seemed like he wanted to argue but after a little more convincing from his friends he agreed to be led peacefully back over to the group.
Vegeta shook his head at the whole debacle before he met with Kakarot, Raditz and Piccolo in the center of the chamber a few moments later. "Alright you low class clown.." Vegeta began. Kakarot frowned but said nothing as the man continued unabated. ".. I need to know exactly how powerful you and your brother are, as well as the green man." He said, jerking a thumb at Piccolo. The Namekian in question growled.
Kakarot couldn't bite back his retort, "His name is Piccolo and you better watch out, Vegeta. He's almost as strong as me." He said with a stern voice. Vegeta simply laughed, "Hahaha! So what, Kakarot? You say that as if you aren't just as pathetic. A power level of 11 thousand and no tail? How do you expect to be any help at all against Frieza!?" He yelled incredulously.
The youngest saiyan bit back a counter and frowned. Truth be told.. the saiyan prince was right. As it stood without being able to transform into a great ape, not even Vegeta would last more than a second against the tyrant and even then… No one truly knew the upper ceiling of the emperor's power. The rumor was that there wasn't one. For this, he had no answer yet.
It was then that Raditz stepped forward. "I firmly believe, Prince Vegeta my lord, that we can still figure something out. I didn't believe it at first either but there truly is something unexplainable about my little brother and his friends. Their growth rate and techniques are ingenious! Please give them a chance. Plus I still have my tail and so does my nephew!" He pleaded.
At this Vegeta scoffed loudly, but it was Nappa who stepped forward shoving the saiyan roughly in the chest with one massive finger. "Raditz! You're a proud saiyan or at least you were before meeting your brother and turning into a big softie! The prince kept you around because he admired your loyalty and pride but let's be honest your power has never measured up, you were born from a low class family and you'll always be a low class. To put it bluntly.. You've Always been like a little puppy to us Bahahaha!" The loud brute laughed obnoxiously.
Beside the older saiyan, Kakarot bristled but whatever his intentions may have been they were never made clear as Raditz himself placed a hand on Nappa's chest and said with a shaky voice.. "Forgive me prince Vegeta…"
The saiyan prince couldn't see the man due to his general's bulky frame blocking out the long haired saiyan almost entirely. Due to Raditz's shaky voice coupled with the face value of his words, Vegeta haughtily assumed the man was apologizing to him. He smirked in a cocky manner, clearly agreeing with his general's assessment and his perceived notion of Raditz's surrender.
Nappa on the other hand wore a very different facial expression. He frowned looking at the man with waist length, spiky hair. Raditz's face was twisted into a ferocious snarl. For a moment Nappa was taken aback.
"Just what the hell do you think you're doing? Take your hand off of me you little.. Hmph!-" He was cut off as Raditz employed the very same technique his brother had used against him a year ago. With a shockwave of semi-transparent Ki force the freakishly large brute was rocketed backwards through the air. Vegeta gasped in surprise and was forced to dive to the side to avoid his airborne commander. He quickly scrambled to his feet bristling with anger.
He turned on Raditz, Ki spiking dangerously. "You dare challenge the elite? You have no right, low class." At this the taller saiyan narrowed his eyes. "I have the same right as every other saiyan!"
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't vaporize you for that, Raditz." The prince demanded angrily.
Raditz looked the short but powerful saiyan elite dead in the eyes and answered truthfully..
"Pride. I did not attack you sir, only him and he attacked me first. With all due respect sire I'm sick of the way the two of you have treated me all these years and I'm going to stick up for myself from now on, I am not weak! But, also know this is not treason! I wish to fight by your side as I always have!" He said, stomping his foot, waving and cutting an arm through the air in an exaggerated manner.
Vegeta looked over at Nappa who had since risen to his feet. He sported a minor cut on his bald head and was stomping angrily towards them. The saiyan prince turned back towards the man. "You know I can not let an assault on my right hand go unpunished, Raditz." He said dangerously.
Raditz nodded, "I understand… That is why I challenge Nappa to a one on one battle for the title of your right hand your highness." He said, kneeling down on one knee before the prince. Vegeta crossed his arms and clicked his teeth. "The old laws… Set in place by my father.."
At this point the large saiyan was reaching their position and rushed toward the still kneeling Raditz, arm raised to mercilessly deliver a fatal blow. "Wait Nappa!" Vegeta yelled from behind him. The large man froze, a mere meter away from his would-be victim. He turned to the prince with a look of exasperation. "But!?.. Vegeta!?.. He..-"
Vegeta growled. "He has challenged you to one on one battle for the right to command my army. I accept. If he wins, he becomes my right hand… If you win, you can kill him." He smirked ominously.
Nappa grinned at the prince and laughed. He was already picturing all the slow and painful tortures he would inflict on Raditz before he killed the foolish man. This was a long time coming in his eyes.
"Not in a million years!" Kakarot yelled! The youngest of the saiyans stepped forward to interpose himself between his brother and the giant brute before him. Before he'd even finished his initial step However, Raditz bound to his feet and held out his hand to bar his brother's path. "I agree to your terms." The older saiyan said with confidence. He crossed his arms and smirked at the prince and then at Nappa.
Beside him Kakarot looked uncertain, "Raditz are.. are you sure?" But the older brother didn't even acknowledge the question, stepping forward until he and the goliath, Nappa, were face to face. Nappa looked down at Raditz with a haughty grin, Raditz met his gaze with an unwavering glare of his own.
"I've been waiting for this." Nappa threatened.
"Agreed."
