Chapter 23: What happens when you leave someone who needs supervision alone

My first year of middle school ended and I am on my way back to my house.  I ended up thinking about this year.  Truthfully, I'm not sure I have fully come to terms with what happened with Rose, but she hasn't commented on her past since then so I didn't want to bring it up.  Interestingly, I stayed a tutor.  It wasn't because I wanted to, but Rose easily persuades me.  I need to figure out why that is.

Well, becoming a tutor just caused me to gain more stares.  Their staring made me seem like an animal in a zoo, but I guess the looks are fine since they aren't laced with anger.  I wonder what I would do to a hostile person.  I'm decently sure I would try to figure out why first and determine based on that.  My guess is that I would have apathy towards their anger.  I will figure that out in the future.

Anyways, making those sculptures in class has caused me to gain a new useless skill.  I don't think it was worth it since I probably annoyed my teachers a lot, but I gained "Ice Sculpting" and it went under Water Magic rather than sculpting.  My biggest progress was in making my own space using space magic, I'm not sure if it is complete yet or not.  If I compare it to Ellie or Mom, it isn't worth a crap, but I can't really compare it to any other people so I will just try to stay positive.

Right before I left I said bye to everyone and Rose passed me a book on Magic Items.  I would ask Ellie if she could get me the book, but I want to see if I can even understand the process before I bother her, since it is a new study to me.  The teachers are also someone I can ask, but Rose told me to leave it to her.  I caught her muttering, "You scare the teachers, so I will do it."  What I do that would scare a teacher though?

I headed to the garden as I first got home and then summoned Tina.  I smirked at her as she arrived; it is funny seeing a little fairy pout.  Oh yea, she still is a little bunny fairy.  I kind of kept it mostly because it felt fine and she is cute as a bunny fairy.

She pouted and said, "Ally, when are you going to get rid of the bunny ears and tail?"

I smiled and replied, "You want to be a cat beastman or a dog beastman?  Maybe a bear beastman, or I think a lizard beastman may be interesting."

"No, if those are the choices, I will stay a bunny."

After she said that, she drooped her shoulders and took a nap in a giant flower.  I've been wondering for a while so I asked Tina, "Tina, why and where do you get so many flowers?"

"Oh, I like to travel around the inner parts of the forest and most of these plants are there.  I think they are nice to observe and smell.  I keep them here since it is a lot less troublesome to keep them here rather than going deep into the forest every time."

"Isn't the forest dangerous?"

She answered smugly, "Yea, normally.  But fairies are an exception, most monsters ignore us and only a few are hostile.  So I can travel without worry."

"Except for if captured by one of the races."

She recoiled at the statement and just nodded her head sadly.  Something bad must have happened to someone she knew.  Before I could ask, she held up her hand for me not to ask.  I guess I will have to wait to find out what happened.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

She then fell asleep in her flowerbed.  I wonder just how bad it must have been to drain her so quickly of her energy from a simple statement considering how she usually is.

I left and headed to my room.  Since I couldn't do anything for Tina, I decided to just leave it at that and push it to the back of my mind.  The next thing I wanted to do was read the book Rose got me.  Since it was quite thick, it may take me a few weeks to understand everything if it is interesting.  Well, let's get started.

Well considering I fell asleep, and that Ellie is currently standing over me, I can guess I missed something important.

"Mistress, you know you should probably see your mom after coming back home."

Well that begs the question why did I first come to the garden?  Well that was because I was overly enthusiastic about the book Rose gave me, and I kind of forgot about mom.  I am not looking forward to that conversation.

"Sorry Ellie, I kind of got caught up in myself."

"You may want to go see her, unless you want to make her sad."

I have never seen mom sad, but the thought of it made me feel worse than if I made her angry.  To be honest, I can't say that I haven't tried to make mom angry.  Considering that my parents died in my previous life I'm not entirely sure how to act towards them.  There is a rebellious phase, but I've decided against that considering that most parents look out for their children even though I can't guarantee it.  (This is funny considering her mom is the ultimate rebel)

I ran to find mom and found her in dad's home office.  Since she was fingering through a couple books I talked first, so I guiltily said, "Hi, mom.  Long time, no see."

She had a serious face on to say, "Is that why you came home and headed straight to the garden, because I haven't been around?"

I put on a forced smile, "It's a joke mom.  I kind of forgot."

She stayed in her stern expression for a couple seconds longer and then broke into a brilliant smile to say.  She drew in close for a hug; I can say for certain she is very strong considering I couldn't breathe.  Though it might be because I'm rather weak, I'm not sure.

"Ally, you worry me more than you could ever understand.  With the reports Ellie gives me it seems that you are getting slightly better, but please be more cautious."

After she said that, she relaxed the hug, so I said, "That's mean mom, how can I even be cautious.  Nobody even approaches me when I am not acting as a tutor, and that is only because of Rose coaxing them."

"I meant it more in how you spy on the high school.  It can adequate at spying, but you are not a master spy yet, but if you keep increasing your spying skills, you may become one without knowing it."

"It's only because middle school is boring and the high school has interesting subjects and magics."

"Ally, you could always just ask me and I can get someone to teach you anything.  Also, you are in middle school for a reason.  Even if you are smarter than your classmates, you still need to grow accustomed to them."

"Mom, I already said they avoid me."

She just sighed and looked towards Ellie who shrugged her shoulders in resignation.  After that, dad popped in from behind me and said to mom, "You were the same as her when you were in school.  Not understanding what was happening around you."

I looked up curiously to mom who still had me in a lax embrace and noticed she was blushing.  She eventually said, "She need not know now anyway, so you hush husband of mine."

He looked like he wanted to argue, but held himself back after Ellie placed a hand on his back.  Well at least I know someone will tell me eventually, good going dad.  I gave him a thumbs up in my mind, and the conversation continued on.  We talked about what I have been learning in school and after it finished, I went back to my room.

To be honest, I wasn't entirely sure what to do with my time, so I took out the book to continue learning about magical tools.  The first chapters are just brief introductions into functions of different magical tools.  I hope that it soon moves on to how to make them, I really want to make one of my own.
