Chapter 16: Wandering around campus

Chapter 16: Wandering around campus

Yesterday was a turning point in this life, the first night I spent away from my mother.  I wonder how it will be in the future; I was never a sentimental type.  This probably stems from not having anything to hold onto though.  I wonder if the reason I feel different from what I would have is because of the surrounding cast in this life.  I left Tina back home; she should be in the garden or hiding from mom.  I hope that these couple days before classes actually start are interesting.

"Mistress, it is time to get up."

"I'm already awake Ellie, I'm wondering what Tina is doing."

"Oh, I'm sure she is having fun with your mom."

I whispered to myself, "Ellie, you know your smile is scary."

She seemed to ignore it though and said, "You will get your list of classes today. I have also set out your clothes."

I wonder how much my mom spends on these clothes.

Anyways, I am onto the next objective, to get food, or more specifically food in the cafeteria.  I wonder how it tastes compared to the chefs who cook at our house considering that the stalls at the market are talented.  After I put on my clothes, Ellie decides that I should wear a tiny hat on my head with the magical item I got for my birthday.  I'm not sure why.

The cafeteria is somewhat full of people for breakfast, so everyone must wake up at this time.  I grab a tray and pick food off the buffet. I am uncomfortable to receive stares from everyone, I thought I wouldn't matter, but it seems that I'm not.  After I fill my tray with what I want, I try to find a friend, any of them.

I find none of them so I go eat in the yard rather than try to embarrass myself since most of the people seem to be my seniors in school.  It is a good thing I have a blanket that I can use on the ground instead of just sitting on the grass.  Well, I ate my meal in peace, which is better than if someone came up to try bullying the loner I guess.

After I cleared my tray, I found the guidance office to get my schedule.  I guess today is as good of a day as any to figure out my surroundings.  Since this campus is fairly large, there are more parks around to allow students to have an open area.  As I walked I found a greenhouse, and a large pond side by side.  Truthfully the greenhouse is a step lower than my garden, but that is probably because of Tina.

Since I wasn't in any sense of hurry, I decided to just sit down and enjoy the view of the lake.  The waters were silent, and the greenery taken care of beautifully.  Well, I guess that there were a few groups around the side of the pond meant that it was a fairly popular place to hang out.  I began to wonder if it would be possible to manipulate the water so that I get a bubble of oxygen inside the pond forcefully pushing the water away.

I didn't do it, mostly because I didn't want Ellie to lecture me on the first day of roaming.  Now I will make a mental note to try it when I don't think I will get caught.  Anyways time to move around again, I'm drawing too much attention and if I stay something strange will happen.  Next stop is a giant crater that contains what seems to be the magic testing facility.  I wonder if someone is using it.

As I move down into the crater using the carved out steps, I entered the building and saw Ellie training with what seems to be space magic.  I assume that void magic is an extension of space magic, but I don't know yet because no one can use it.  Anyways, as I observed Ellie silently she attempted to use advanced water magic, but seemed to run out of stamina half way through.  I think she used too much magic power with her space magic.

As I left, I let Ellie be considering that I also wanted to let her relax today.  I left the crater and found the middle school's main building; it is like a castle and used like a fort if we go to war.

I took a good hour before I found the guidance room by wandering around.

"Mr. would you have my schedule for the year?"

"And your name would be Miss?"

"Oh, my name is Alexandra Embers, or Ally as everybody else calls me."

"Ok Ally.... *he looks through his files*... here you are.  Your classes are on this sheet."

"Thank you Mr."

As I left, I felt the tension in the air left, I'm not sure if it was because of my name or not.  Then he became flustered when I said my name.

I have quite a bit of the day left, and I wonder what I should do.  Maybe I should just laze around my dorm room or should I try to interact with my seniors, they seem to stare too much though.  Should I try to have fun with Misty?  Oh, I thought of something funny, I should summon Tina.  She is probably napping so it should be interesting to see how she reacts.

Right as I summon Tina, I notice her dress torn into shreds and looking exhausted.  Oh, um.  I pull out a new dress and quickly replace her dress and as Tina calms down I ask, "Mom's training?"

She didn't even answer, just sulking and giving me eyes like it's my fault.

I guess I should tell her, "Do you want to go back?"

She pricks right up and states with passion, "No, Do I look like a masochist?"

"I'm not sure, you are using me and Ellie as your cover so... I'm not sure if we can be much better."

"As long as I'm not with your mother it is already better."

"This is your fault for letting the upper garden become a wilderness from your magic."

"It's not my fault, it was just a prank."

"Really now?"

"Just leave it Ally, please.  I have already been punished enough."

"Well, I guess."

As we ended, I sensed Ellie approaching and after she got close enough to see Tina, she gave Tina a glance of pity.  She must have cleared her mind because she still said, "You get what you deserve Tina."

I didn't bother to mediate between a bickering fairy and maid since it was fun to watch.  After a while we got dinner and see if any of my friends have came to the dorms yet since they told me they would be here today.

When I got there I found Rose eating, she was by herself from what I could tell.  As I crept up behind her I said, "Hi Rose."  Even though that isn't considered scary she still jumped from the suddenness of it.  She twirled around and said, "Hi Ally" as she calmed herself down.

"Do you like your room Rose?"

"Yep, it is quite big and do you like yours?"

"I got my mom's old room, so it is interesting."

"Well that is awesome."

"Rose do you know why everybody stares at me?"

She looks at me wide eyes and says in disbelief, "You really don't know?"

"Nope, not a single clue."

She then looks at me with pity and says, "You are really sheltered aren't you Ally."

"Yes?"

"I want you to figure it out by yourself Ally, you will at some point."

"I'm not sure if I will, but if you say so I will try Rose.  Anyways, do you want to come to my room later?"

Ellie interjected and said, "Ally, that may have to wait awhile, your room still has renovation needs to accept visitors."

"Ok, so whenever that is done, you want to come Rose?"

"I guess that is fine, but isn't that a standard feature of the dorms?"

Ellie answered, "Well Ally's room… it isn't exactly a standard room."

Rose and I tacitly stopped asking about it.  As we ate our fill I went with Rose to see if Kylie had come into the dorms yet and it seems that neither her nor her brother are here yet.  I wonder what held them up.  Tristan was going to move in the day before school started, so he is coming tomorrow.

Rose and I headed back to our separate rooms and as I jumped into my bed I pulled out my schedule.  I have arithmetic, history of the Windrunner Continent, intermediate water magic, and intermediate fire magic.  For some reason I also have swordsmanship, I'm not sure who's doing this is, but it may be interesting.  As Misty shifted into a smaller form I hugged her tightly as I fell asleep.
