ARC 18: Chapter 599 - Lakshman vs. Lagron (Prelude)

“You’re finally here, fool!” Lagron greeted his rival with a grin on his face, getting off the porch and taking a few steps before coming to a stop and challenging him, “Let’s do it! Let’s get our battle started and decide who is the strongest between us! Now!”

Lakshman did not say anything back against his rival’s words while his wives, Venezuela and Erza, stood behind him. Their guest, Lina Pricemark, remained standing next to the two older women while looking at Lagron with a confused look.

“Um… Who is he?” Lina asked them curiously.

“That’s Lagron, the Dragon Titan,” Venezuela replied dully, her eyes dropping slightly in dullness.

“Hey! It’s Lagron Rodraigan!” Lagron snapped at them, making Lina flinch with surprise because he overheard them from such a distance away. “Get my name straight for crying out loud as I only have one name unlike this fool!”

“I may have many names since I am always reincarnating, but I always am the Phoenix Titan, idiot!” Lakshman replied crossly.

“I don’t care!” Lagron retorted without a care. “I’m here for our challenge, so let’s do it without wasting time!”

Once again, there was a few seconds of silence before Lakshman sighed and said simply, “Go home.”

This time, it was Lagron’s turn to remain silent for a moment with a dubious look on his face before he asked, “What?”

“I said: Go home.”

Lina was surprised by her king’s refusal of his challenger despite her being aware of how important the duel was. So, seeing him deny it surprised her when she felt a sudden chill go down her back. She quickly turned to look in Lagron’s direction and widened her eyes in shock as a strange aura began emanating from the Dragon Titan.

“What… did you say…?!” Lagron slowly asked in a deadly voice with a fearsome look on his face.

Lina was immediately scared as the dangerous aura emanating from him intensified and surrounded them. The wind began to blow faster and faster, causing their hair to flow behind them. She was not fully accustomed to her powers of sensing energy like the others as she was still learning it at the Astral Academy, but in that situation, she could definitely feel the fury that engulfed the Dragon Titan, especially since he had a very scary expression on his face.

“Dang! Lagron, you idiot! You’re releasing a terrifying aura! Keep it together, will you?!” Venezuela exclaimed angrily.

“Like hell I can after what this fool just said!” Lagron complained to her before focusing on his rival. He pointed at him with his finger and exclaimed, “You! Fool! Rephrase your words just now!”

Lakshman stood before his rival’s furious aura and the wind unflinchingly and replied, “I have no reason to when you’re the one at fault.”

“Me? I’m the one at fault here?!” Lagron exclaimed, pointing at himself and looking enraged. “How?! How is it my fault?! You were away on your little vacation,” he said, emphasizing the word ‘vacation’ with his two hands, “and I was gracious enough to extend our agreed upon date by another week to give you time to spend with your family instead of chasing you down and demanding you fight me there and then! Yet, you dare say it’s my fault?! Ha?!”

His anger was rising exponentially, which resulted in the very sky to slowly change as murky and dark clouds formed.

Lakshman sighed and said, “Look. I’m grateful for your decision to extend the challenge date to give me time to spend with my family. I really am.”

“Then, why are you saying I’m at fault when it's clearly yours!” Lagron fired back heatedly.

Seeing his rival seem ready to explode, The Phoenix Titan clicked his tongue and activated his own powers while saying firmly, “Will you stop getting fired up and listen to me for a minute?”

In an instant, the fearsome aura was pushed back by the powerful aura that Lakshman unleashed. The fast blowing wind in their direction also changed direction and began blowing around them instead. The two warriors stared each other down with fearsome looks on their faces while the two older women and the teenage girl watched apprehensively. At the same time, the rest of the Phoenix Titan’s family came out with worried looks on their faces.

“What are you two doing?!” Amaranda asked them telepathically, walking down the porch to stop next to her lover. “Stop this nonsense, you’re disturbing the children!”

Her words pierced through the anger filled Lagron and made him turn to look at her with surprise. Then he looked over his shoulder at his rival’s wives and saw them watching him with nervousness. That was when he noticed that his anger had caused the environment to fill with great hostility and heard the crying sounds of children from inside the home.

“Oh…!” He said shortly, his energy dying down and his furious aura quickly withdrew.

Seeing his rival lessen his pressure, Lakshman also dropped his pressure and the surroundings began to return to look normal. The murky clouds above quickly dissipated just as quickly they had gathered above.

“It’s not my fault I got flared up like that! This fool made me do it!” Lagron complained to her and pointed at his rival accusingly. “He said it’s my fault without giving me an explanation!”

“You didn’t wait for me to give you an explanation, idiot!” Lakshman told him irritably.

Lagron gritted his teeth and turned to him before asking, “Like I care! You should’ve been quick on the uptake in the first place!”

His rival sighed wearily and asked, “Do you know what time it is?”

“What? Time?” The Dragon Titan asked, looking confused. He looked up at the sky and noted what time it is before replying, “It’s evening. What’s that got to do with our competition?”

“I’ve been waiting for you since morning, but you never showed up!” Lakshman accused him fiercely. “I waited and waited, but you didn’t come! I tried to contact Amaranda and you, but obviously I couldn’t when you were in the Dragon World!”

“Well…!” Lagron began, looking surprised before quickly regaining his composure and saying, “I was training all day today, but what’s that got to do with you wanting me to home?”

“You weren’t coming, so I went to work and did my duties and I am home feeling very tired. I’m not prepared to fight you today, so go home and come back tomorrow.”

“Huh?” Lagron asked incredulously. “That’s your reason? Tired from work? Are you kidding me?”

“No. I am not.”

Lagron shook his head and said, “You’ve got to be kidding me! That’s the lamest excuse I’ve ever heard!”

“It’s also stupid to hear you say you’ve been training all day today when you know it’s our challenge day!” Lucky retorted firmly. “No challenger in their right mind would think their opponent would take the entire day to train and come as they wish!”

“It’s your fault for not expecting me to train all of today! How is that my fault?!” Lagron fired back furiously.

“Regardless, I am not ready to fight you now. Plus, I’ve brought a guest with me today, so I cannot fight you now. Go home and come back tomorrow.”

The furious Dragon Titan glared at him fiercely while gritting his teeth before saying, “You… fool…! I’ve… had it with all of your excuses! Today is our challenge day, so fight me already!”

There was a moment of pause as they looked at each other before Lakshman replied, “I can’t do it today. Go home.”

A moment of silence followed his words and as everyone watched with worry, Lagron’s anger exploded into a rage, and he exclaimed, “You fool! If you aren’t going to fight me, I’ll make you do it! AAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!”

The Dragon Titan instantly began surging with incredible power and kicked off the ground to fly straight towards his rival with a fearsome look on his face.

Lina became scared by this and hid behind Erza, who led her away to the side with Venezuela right behind her while watching what their husband would do in return.

Lakshman stood his ground and tilted his head down slightly to hide the expression on his face from the dark shadow his hair made. Within seconds, his rival was on top of him, and he pulled his fists back as he was about to unleash a devastating blow. As he was a few meters away from him, the Phoenix Titan bunched his hands into fists and flared his eyes open at his rival before activating his powers.

In an instant, there was a violent flash of light from him as an enormous amount of energy was unleashed all at once. Everyone covered up their eyes or turned away to avoid the glaring light. Lagron continued flying towards its origin despite him being unable to see through it even as he narrowed his eyes.

A moment later, out from the flash of light came the fully transformed Phoenix Titan that startled everyone watching. His long golden-red hair flowed behind him with the wind while he was radiating a golden-red aura that surrounded him as he moved towards his charging opponent.

Lagron was clearly taken aback at the sight of his fully transformed rival, but he did not stop and brought his fist forward to land a powerful blow on him. As it came, Lakshman simply tilted his head to the right and let it fly past before raising his left arm and stopping it by catching his opponent’s arm. Then he followed through by raising his right arm and grabbed his rival’s face with his hand.

As his opponent was taken aback by surprise, Lakshman exclaimed, “Like I said… GO… HOME…!”

He yelled the two words and launched his rival into the air towards where the Spirit Turtle was at.

“AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!” Lagron screamed as he flew away helplessly as he was unable to break his flight.

His screams slowly disappeared until they could no longer hear him. Lakshman took a deep breath and sighed slowly before powering down, which retracted his transformation and made him turn back to normal.

“Amaranda,” he began by addressing the Magic Titan, “Tell him let’s fight properly tomorrow please.”

She smiled in return and said telepathically, “Of course, Lucky. Leave it to me,” and she waved her staff, causing a ball of light to form around her before she flew into the air and soared towards her home, the Spirit Turtle.

Lakshman sighed wearily and began stretching his body as if he felt sore all over.

“Lucky,” began Venezuela as she approached him with a look of surprise on her face like all of his wives and guest. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah. I’m fine,” he told her with a smile and explained, “Unleashing so much energy so fast in a condensed form does put a strain on my body, but it’s good that it was only for a few seconds.”

She blinked in surprise before asking him, “Why though? Why did you have to transform into your final form?”

He remained silent for a moment as he glanced at her before looking in the direction the Spirit Title was at and said with a serious voice, “I had no choice because… he has become incredibly strong.”
