Amit slowly opened his eyes and was startled to find himself standing in a large spot of light that streamed from somewhere high above. There stood his enemy, Asura, in front of him while everything around them was surrounded by swirling darkness.
“Where are we?” He asked out loud while staring around him. Then, suddenly realising something, he said in a sharp voice, “Wait! Don’t tell me…!”
The place had a strange feel to it, and a mysterious sensation as if he knew this place from somewhere in the past. This made him immediately recognise it and finally made him know where they were.
“You brought us to the Spirit Plane?!” He exclaimed, turning back to face his enemy in alarm. “You had the power to do this?”
Asura smiled softly and replied, “I do. After all, I trained under the God of Justice for an entire year, although… it’s not something I shared with anyone,” and he finished while smiling wryly.
This caused Amit to widen his eyes slightly before he smiled and began shaking his head as if he could not believe it.
“I can’t believe whether you’re stupid or dumb for bringing me here. I’m a Demigod! I’m much more powerful here than I am in the Physical Plane, idiot! You just gave me the means of destroying you for good by stupidly bringing us here!”
“Oh? If you think so, then good luck, but I think you’ll find it’ll be hard to fight me when we we’re not alone,” remarked Asura with a shrewd smile.
Amit blinked in surprise before he chuckled and smiled as he asked, “What? Who else would be here other than… other than…?”
His voice trailed away as he finally remembered the other entity that existed in this plane as a silent guardian. To be more accurate, it was a silent predator that lurks in the abyss and awakens to the arrival of souls in this world to perform its one and only duty.
“The Serpent of Revenge,” he muttered finally, and shuddered as a strange chill ran down his body.
“Correct,” agreed Asura in a calm voice. “The destroy of souls, the raver of the guilty, and the one with devastating savagery. It was originally the companion of the God of Destruction until its rampage in the dawn of life, causing him to banish it to this plane in order to destroy souls that are guilty of crimes. Speaking of which… here it comes.”
As he finished speaking, they heard the sound of a large body slithering on the ground from somewhere nearby. The sound grew louder and louder as the monster slowly drew closer to the spotlight shining down on them.
“So, this was your plan! Instead of killing me, you wanted me to get destroyed, you bastard!” Amit cursed at him angrily while glancing around with a scared look on his face.
“You’re not the only one in danger though,” said Asura, and Amit looked at him in confusion. “I too had committed great crimes in the past, destroyed many lives in pursuit of my goal. So, I guess we’re both in danger?”
When he finished speaking, he looked at him and gave him a pleasant smile. His enemy, however, stared back at him with a horrified look on his face as he realised his enemy was suicidal.
“Are you insane?!” He yelled in alarm. “You brought us here knowing that the both of us could get destroyed?!”
“I suppose we just have to survive this ordeal before the other gets destroyed, right?” Asura asked, and his eyes glinted dangerously at him.
Amit took a step back as he stared at him with a horrified look on his face. However, he was distracted when he heard the sound of the Serpent of Revenge drawing nearer until he could see its red gleaming eyes through the darkness. It was for a fraction of a second before it vanished, and he lost sight of it.
“Where did it go?!” He exclaimed, getting into a guard position while glancing around.
There was a tense silence between the two warriors, who were looking around for where it might suddenly appear. Amit suddenly felt its presence behind him, so he leaped away while turning around and firing a powerful energy wave in its direction. The energy soared through the air and disappeared into the darkness with no visible sign that it had hit its intended target.
“Damn! It’s moving around!”
“Don’t state the obvious.”
“Bastard! I’ll destroy you for this!”
“First, make sure you don’t get destroyed first.”
The two warriors threw words between each other as they avoided each other while, at the same time, being on the lookout for the Serpent of Revenge. Suddenly, it appeared out of nowhere right behind them again, hissing fiercely at them.
They jumped away, and Amit aimed his hand at it and launched a powerful wave of destruction at it. The wave soared through the air, but the monster simply opened its mouth wide and began absorbing it.
“What?!” He exclaimed in shock.
The monster absorbed the energy into its mouth completely until there was nothing left of the wave from before. Then it let out a small burp before it opened its mouth wide and fired a massive wave of its own right back at them.
“Damn!”
Amit attempted to leap out of the way, but Asura suddenly grabbed him from behind and held him in place to face the wave head on.
“Let go! Let go, dammit! Let go!” Amit screamed at him.
“Not a chance!” Asura retorted with an evil smile on his face.
The wave soared at them and completely engulfed them in it while Amit screamed and Asura grinned broadly. An explosion of smoke occurred and spread everywhere while the figure of both Asura and Amit came into view. Both were sporting bruises and cuts on their bodies, but Amit was worse for wear since he was forced to take the full brunt of the wave while Asura used him as a shield.
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
“You’ll… pay for this… bastard…!” The Demigod muttered while letting out smoke out of his mouth.
“If you survive this, that is,” added Asura with a grin.
“You’re… evil…!”
“Don’t state the obvious.”
As Asura grinned, Amit gritted his teeth with anger and forcefully broke free from his hold. Then he swirled around to try and attack him, but by then Asura had gotten out of the way. Even so, he chased after him with the intention of beating him down and feeding him to the Serpent of Revenge. As such, he continued to chase after his enemy, but Asura suddenly swirled around and punched him in the face.
“This isn’t the time to play cat and mouse, fool,” remarked Asura with a light chuckle.
Amit staggered backwards and rubbed his face where it stung and faced him once more angrily. However, he was shocked to find himself facing the Serpent of Revenge, which had moved into the light. As it did, they got the see its frightening appearance, as it had two blazing red eyes, a large body enough to swallow a human whole, and a fearsome form.
“Oops!” Asura said, realising that the snake had come into the light to seek after its prey.
He knew that the monster mainly remained outside the circle of light because it used the darkness to its advantage to get in close range of its victim. For normal souls, the light would slowly diminish around them, allowing the monster to close in and destroy them. However, as the two of them were very powerful, it had to come into the light to go after them as trapping them using normal methods would not work.
So, Asura moved away from it and landed on the other end of the spotlight while Amit remained frozen to the spot, staring fixedly into the eyes of the Serpent of Revenge. The first Phoenix Titan noted that the Demigod’s body was shaking and it only grew violent as if he was in the middle of a storm. He understood this immediately as being the effect of the Serpent of Revenge’s Eyes of Crime.
The Eyes of Crime peers into the very soul of the victim and springs forth all misdeeds, misconduct, crimes, and any bad things they had done and freezes its victim by instilling the fear that the victim had done to their victims. The force of this fear only multiplies the more crimes that they had stockpiled, making them immobile and just stand there like a statue, waiting for it to come upon them and utterly destroy them.
Asura knew of this face from his time during which he trained under the God of Justice, who had taught him many things and one of them was the Serpent of Revenge. As such, he knew of the effects it had on one self, and he also knew he would feel a similar fear or worse than the son of the God of Calamity because of all the evil things he had done in the past.
“I just have to avoid making eye contact with it, but… I can’t win against it,” he muttered to himself, remembering that it was a Divine Entity that was on par with the Mythological Gods.
So, he focused only on Amit and watched as the Demigod was frozen by fear of the crimes he had done throughout his life. He was shaking like a leaf and his eyes wide open as they were filled with fear while his mouth shook uncontrollably. Tears began to stream down his face as the son of the God of Calamity was utterly defeated by the might of the Serpent of Revenge.
“Serves you right, although, I have no right to reprimand someone else when I’m guilty of wrongdoings,” muttered Asura in a sad voice.
The Serpent of Revenge slowly approached its prey, hissing softly as it glared down at him when, all of a sudden, a violent bang occurred. Something flew down from high above and had landed forcefully on the ground, causing it to shake and cause Asura to lose his footing. He stumbled backwards and looked forward as a new figure appeared standing between Amit and the Serpent of Revenge. Upon seeing who it was, Asura’s express flared into a rage.
“Who do you think you’re attacking, vile beast?” Asked the God of Calamity, Climax.
He was staring at it with cold deadly eyes that could kill someone just by seeing his glare. Then he swiped his hand in an arc in front of him and unleashed a powerful slicing wave of energy at the monster. It smashed into the Serpent of Revenge and blasted it out of the light and threw it back into the shadows, where it hissed angrily.
The God of Calamity glared at it when he looked sideways and saw an unexpected figure flying by. Asura had surged with power and kicked off the ground to soar towards the right of him. As he glared at him with his face filled with rage, he gathered a large amount of energy in the palm of his hand and fired it at his mortal enemy.
The wave of destruction flew forward and seemingly consumed both his enemy and his enemy’s son as it soared into the darkness. As Asura landed on his feet and looked at them, the wave dissipated and revealed that a solid purple brick like barrier had formed to the side of the God of Calamity, protecting both him and his son from the attack.
“You. You’re still alive?” He asked Asura while narrowing his eyes sharply with great anger.
Asura snorted and asked, “Obviously since you fail at the job of killing me.”
Climax’s eyes flashed dangerously when a stranger suddenly appeared out of thin and stood next to him. He looked into the darkness and then turned around to see the God of Calamity’s son, who was shaking like a leaf. It took Asura a moment before he remembered who the stranger was; the God of Trickery, Levi.
“Sheesh. It sure did a number on your son,” remarked Levi, looking uncomfortable.
“What?” Climax asked in a dangerous voice, glancing at him sideways as he gave him a powerful stare.
“Nope. I didn’t say anything at all!” Levi replied, becoming scared of incurring Climax’s wrath.
“Take my son and leave. I have some… personal matters to attend to.”
Levi blinked at him and then glanced at the first Phoenix Titan before forming a weary smile on his face. Nodding once, he walked over and placed his hand on the shaking Amit’s shoulder before the two of them disappeared from there. This left only the God of Calamity, Climax, and the first Phoenix Titan, Asura, in the Spirit Plane with the Serpent of Revenge skulking in the darkness surrounding them.
“How did it feel to see your son suffering like that? How did you feel to realise that he was almost a goner?” Asura asked with an arrogant smile on his face.
Climax looked at him with a dangerous glint in his eyes and said, “I see. So, it was your doing in bringing him here and causing him this pain.” Then he momentarily closed his eyes and then reopened them to look at his enemy before he responded to his question with, “As for the pain, this is not the first time I experienced something similar to this, especially when the first time was caused by the direct actions of your ancestor, the God of Power.”
“Hmm?” Asura asked, blinking in surprise as he saw a hint of sadness on his enemy’s face. “About that. If you say my ancestor is the God of Power, does that mean I’m a Demigod?”
“Don’t entertain such a foolish notion, mortal,” said Climax in a dangerous voice. “The God of Power had been born to a human, and that was how your family tree came to be. Unlike my son, you are just a mere mortal with gifts skills. That’s all.” Then he appeared as though he remembered something as he said, “That reminds me, I still have a grudge against your family for what he did to me.”
“What?” Asura asked, looking surprised. “What happened? What did he do to you?”
“A dead man doesn’t need to know,” replied Climax curtly, and he pointed with his forefinger before clicking his fingers.
In an instant, a violent white sphere of destruction took place and it swept in all directions. Asura widened his eyes in shock as he realised the wave was going to destroy him. Realising the attack coming his way was far too powerful for Maga Distrab or any other barrier spell to work, he activated the only spell that could defend him in such a tight situation.
“Armour!”
The moment he shouted, the armour on his body dematerialised into light and formed again in front of him, forming into a solid wall of protection. He took refuge behind it and crossed his arms in front of him in a defensive stance as the destructive sphere of light swept forward and consumed him before exploding and making everything go white.
