ARC 17: Chapter 541 - Fusion vs. God - Interlude II

The warrior fused from the Nine Heroes of Legends, and the God of Calamity, Climax, went on a full-scale battle spree across the planet of the Alzard World. They would dash at each other and lash out at an alarming speed at close quarters. Each managed to block and dodge the other while lashing out in an attempt to hit him. When contact was finally made, the victim would get blasted away, and the enemy would chase after them. However, the victim would immediately recover and fire back with his own attack, which their enemy evaded by diving out of the way.

Whenever they were separated by several meters, both warriors would fire energy blasts at each other and occasionally hurl special techniques at each other, techniques such as the fused warrior using Positron Lancer and the God retaliating with a dark sphere of deadly energy. Both warriors pouring all of their powers in an all-out battle, with their main goal of taking each other out of commission and possibly resulting in one of either of their deaths.

“Good! Very good!” Climax remarked in a delighted voice as he dodged his enemy and leaped away to fire a dark energy wave at him. “It’s been quite some time since I’ve had this much fun fighting a warrior of your calibre!”

“Don’t treat this like some kind of sport!” The fused warrior retorted as he smashed the incoming attack into the air and in return fired several balls of destruction from the palm of his hand that he aimed at his enemy. “I’m here to defeat you!”

The God of Calamity chuckled as he employed a barrier to block the attacks and said, “Yes. I can certainly say you’re doing your best, but I feel there’s more than just your power poured into these attacks. I sense anger, a lot of anger targeted towards me. I wonder why?”

“You wonder why?!” The fused warrior exclaimed, rushing forward at an incredible speed and began unleashing a barrage of fists and kicks at him. “You don’t know after everything you’ve done to me, my family, and everyone else?!”

Climax caught hist flying fist and aimed his other palm straight at the fused warrior’s chest to fire an attack. As it activated, the fused warrior instantly reacted by vanishing from the spot and reappearing several meters away. There, he saw the attacking flying at him and held his hand out before activating his powers. The result was the incoming attack getting destroyed, and the two warriors stood facing each other, with the warrior showing the God a serious expression on his face.

“Well, I’ve been existing since the dawn of time, so there’s way too many things to remember,” said Climax with a shrug of his shoulders as if it was the obvious thing, “so, if it isn’t about my recent attempt to destroy your world, you might have to be a little more specific to jog my memory.”

Inside of the fused warrior’s mind, the others had different reactions to these words.

“I can’t believe this guy!” Vikram exclaimed in disbelief.

“He’s a God. You shouldn’t believe in him,” remarked William indifferently.

“Such a cruel person,” commented Fred with an uncomfortable look on her face.

“I don’t know anything about religion to make comments on this topic,” said Maxwell with a wry smile. “What about you, Ward?”

“It does make sense that he wouldn’t clearly remember what Lucky is so angry with him about since the other person’s a God that existing since the dawn of time, like they said so themselves,” stated Ward thoughtfully.

“Maybe, but it feels like he’s making fun of Lucky than anything else,” said Gram from side with a disapproving look on his face.

“Be specific with him, Lucky,” advised Natsu in a firm voice, “otherwise he’ll continue to make fun of you.”

“Lakshman, let us switch!” Asura said firmly, stepping towards the screen.

“No, Asura. Let me—!” Lakshman began, his voice echoing all around them.

“No! I have to deal with this myself!” Asura said fiercely.

Everyone looked at him in surprise but did not say anything as they understood from the memories Lakshman had shared with them a while ago. So, Lakshman appeared out of nowhere and stepped away from the screen while Asura stepped forward and disappeared near the screen that was showing what was happening on the outside.

On the outside, the fused warrior, now in Asura’s control, straightened up and pointed his finger at his enemy with a serious expression on his face.

“I am speaking about my brother, Chandra, the one whom you forcefully put under your control after killing his wife and forcing him to fight against me!”

This instantly registered itself inside of the God of Calamity’s mind, who remembered the events of what had happened so long ago and said, “Oh…! Right! The Calamity Titan. That traitor.”

“How dare you force him to do things he normally would not have! Because of that, he… he killed my wives, and I… I—!”

Before he could complete his sentence, Climax jumped in and said, “He was killed without a shred of mercy by his own… brother. Isn’t that right, Phoenix Titan?”

The fused warrior glared menacingly at him while clenching his fists tightly and shouted, “It was your fault! It’s all because of you that our family was torn, and I… I was forced—!”

“Forced? You were forced? Who forced you? Huh? Who made you kill him?” Climax asked, leering at him arrogantly, causing Asura seer with boiling rage. “Also, let me make it perfectly clear…! I… did not murder his wife!”

Asura widened his eyes in shock and remained silent for a moment before he exclaimed, “That’s a lie! You must be lying! There’s no way anyone else would’ve done that other than you, who possibly held a grudge against my so-called ancestor, the God of Power, whom you seem to have a lot of hate for!”

Upon hearing that, the God of Calamity stared at him in amazement before he began laughing. His laughter gradually grew louder and louder until his voice started echoing around in the complete silent that enveloped them from all sides. Then, he slowly stopped laughing and recovered to continue smiling as he looked at his enemy, but Asura had this feeling that there was a great amount of anger behind the God’s eyes.

“I can’t believe I just heard that. Seriously. You think that I would stoop to the same level as him just to get revenge for what he did to me?!” Climax asked, his voice growing more and more aggressive by each passing second. He pointed his finger at him and stated, “Let me make it clear, idiot! I was not the one who killed your brother’s wife. Rather, I found your brother at death’s door when his wife was savagely murdered, and he was blinded, and guess who did it? Guess who did it?” He paused dramatically for a second before saying, “The remnants of the families that you had slain!”

“What?!” The fused warrior exclaimed, staring at him in disbelief. “That can’t be! You’re lying!”

“Is it the fad nowadays to call someone, who tells the truth, even a God, a liar?” Climax asked dismissively. “He looked towards where the God of Energy, Engraut, stood alongside the Overlord, and said, “If you don’t believe me, ask him. Go on. He’s seen the whole thing. He knows the truth, and I’m sure you would trust his words better than mine. Go on!”

The fused warrior stared at him in suspiciously before he turned towards where Engraut stood and asked, “Engraut…! Tell me the truth. It was him, wasn’t it? Even my brother, during our confrontation, told me that I was responsible for doing it, but it was clear that it was him, wasn’t it?!”

Engraut looked at him hesitantly, unwilling to reveal the truth. That was until Asura, who was in control of the fusion warrior, bellowed, “Tell me!”

As such, the God of Energy sighed heavily and said, “Asura. The truth is… Climax wasn’t the one who did it. It was done by the people who held a strong unrelenting grudge against you for your world conquest.”

For a moment, Asura did not say anything, but a wave of shock smashed into him, and he recovered by exclaiming, “What?! No way…! That’s not possible!”

As Engraut looked helplessly at him, the God of Calamity resumed by saying, “See what I mean? I didn’t do it; it was the remanent of the many families that lost their lives to your conquering army that banded together and assaulted your brother and his wife!”

The fused warrior turned back to face him with a shocked look on his face as Climax began pacing back and forth as he continued with, “After learning that those two left your protective shelter, they were chased after, defeated, beaten. Tortured and all of this was done by the unrelenting rage those people that held their grudge against you.”

“No…! No way…!” The fused warrior said in disbelief. “If they held such anger towards me, they should’ve come after me! Why go after him and his wife?”

Climax was taken aback by the question and asked, “Are you actually stupid?” Then he chortled with laughter before saying, “I think you’d understand that you were unfairly powerful, and as such, there was no way they could go against you. Instead, they chose the best course of action and took out their anger on your brother and his wife.”

He paused for a moment to let those words sink in before he added, “You always thought your wives, and the fact that you had to kill your own brother for killing your wives with your hands was the consequences of what you’ve done, but no…! Even before that, your consequences caught up with your brother, and he, and his wife, and made them suffer for it.”

Asura stood there, in possession of the fused warrior, riddled with wave after wave as the shock slowly settled in. While that was happening, the God of Calamity went on speaking, and he listened unwillingly.

“When I found your brother, he was on the verge of death, both blinded and lost all of his limbs, left to die a lonely miserable death. I felt pity for him to suffer the consequences of your actions, so I offered him the choice to have revenge by becoming my soldier, and he readily accepted it, and do you know what pushed him to do it?”

He paused dramatically as if to cause a slight tension before he said, “Not just his anger towards the people that hurt him, not just his anger towards the world for letting him suffer, but his anger towards his brother for being the reason that all of that happened to him and his wife.”

Then he began speaking as if retelling the thoughts running through Chandra’s mind at that time.

“If only brother didn’t go to war, we wouldn’t have suffered like this. If only my brother didn’t go to war, my wife would still alive, and we would be living peacefully. If only brother didn’t go to war, we’d all be together and living happily. It was all… because of brother going to war that I… I’m so… helpless.”

In that moment, upon hearing those words, Asura felt as if lightning had struck him with great force. No such thing happened, but the inside of his mind was in shambles just by knowing what his brother had thought before being converted to the forces of evil. He had somewhat gotten over what had happened back then, but now, learning the truth that everything that even his brother’s and sister-in-law’s lives were destroyed because of his actions way before the consequences caught up with him, Asura did not know what to think anymore.

He swayed on the spot, his eyes widened, and his mouth hung open while his body went limp with shock. Inside of his mind, Asura suddenly appeared out of nowhere and stumbled backwards before falling to his knees with his eyes wide and round. Lakshman took one glance at him with a troubled look on his face, but he knew what must be done and walked forward to take control of the fusion warrior while the others rushed forward to check up on Asura.

On the outside, as Lakshman took possession of the fusion warrior, Climax sneered, “So, what do you have to say to that, so called righteous warrior? Well? Can you still claim the end result was worth destroying your own family?”

To that, the fused warrior looked at him calmly and replied, “Whatever has happened in the past is the past. No point looking back at what happened because there’s nothing we can do about it. Instead, what we can do is take lessons from the past and use it to develop our present so that the future doesn’t end up like that. It’s as simple as that.”

“Oh?” Climax asked, looking surprised, “I wasn’t expecting you to recover so quickly.”

“Well, you thought wrong,” said Lakshman, and he smiled at him. “Rather, I thank you for imparting me the missing details of my past. It helps me further understand myself, understand my mistakes, and help me improve myself for the people that depend on me. I’ve learnt my lesson, and I look towards the future with hope.”

“Ha! You think it’s as easy as that?!” Climax exclaimed fiercely. “Crimes of the past will never be forgiven and forgotten!”

With that, he surged with incredible power that started to shake the entire area from its intensity.

“Latching onto the past and never changing to adapt to the present will never make you happy!” The fused warrior replied, and he, too, surged with power that further added to the shaking of the area, which soon started affecting the entire planet.

“We shall see about that!”

“I welcome it!”

After their fierce exchange, the two warriors kicked off the ground and flew towards one another, causing a brilliant flash of light to occur as they resumed battling it out with great intensity.

Meanwhile, at the League of Heroes headquarters, Cyde, the commander, was staring at the king in shock.

“Sir! That would mean many countless lives will be lost!”

“We must meet difficult times with tough choices to protect whatever we can at any cost,” the king replied bluntly.

“But, sir! What about the first prince? Bolten must know as well.”

“He no longer holds any position of authority in these matters, not since he stood against me,” the king replied curtly in a cold manner.

Cyde was taken aback by the king’s words as he was unable to believe what he was hearing. Then he put a firm expression on his face and said, “I’m sorry, sir, but I cannot approve of your plan.”

“Who needs your approval? I’m the king, your ruler! Do as you are told!” The king ordered with a fierce voice.

In that instant, several of the Royal Guards suddenly made their move and surrounded the commander from all around. Everyone in the control room stopped what they were doing and turned to watch this spectacle with great nervousness.

There was a tense moment between the Royal Guards and Cyde, who was eying them left, right, and centre.

“Be obedient and do as you’re told, commander if you don’t want to get hurt,” said the king in a firm voice.

To that, Cyde let out a light chuckle to lighten the tension before he replied, “Funny that, sir, because you’re clearly forgetting about my capability.”

“What?” The king asked in confusion.

In that instant, Cyde acted by moving towards one of the Royal Guards and grabbed his spear. With unprecedented strength that surprised the man wielding the spear, the commander swung him around in a circle, smashing everyone in the way and giving him some room to act.

With the spear in his hand that the original owner had let go of, Cyde began spinning it around before he started beating the other Royal Guards that had recovered. He showed off his great skill with the spear and strength as he easily outmatched every one of them with a crazy expression that a warrior would make when he was in the heat of the battle.

Suddenly, he was hit unexpectedly from the side, and he staggered sideways before looking back at the king. The insolent man was aiming his hand at him with his other hand placed in a ready position on the device he wore on his wrist.

“Don’t make me do this, commander,” his ruler said with a fierce voice. “I value your life as you’ve served me well, so I’m giving you one last chance to surrender and do as you are told.”

Cyde eyed the king with a cold expression on his face as he was thinking quickly on what he must do next to get out of there. At that moment, he heard a Royal Guard getting to his feet from being attack from earlier, which was the opportunity the commander had been waiting for.

He acted in a heartbeat, moving his body sideways to evade the king’s next attack, which he unleashed without hesitation and hit the Royal Guard’s armour as Cyde got behind him. Then, the commander kicked him with full force, sending the Royal Guard flying and crashing into the king.

Once everyone was distracted by that, he spun the spear quickly in his hand and tapped it on the ground while he moved his other hand and typed several times on the device attached to his wrist. In an instant, a sudden flash of light occurred that caused everyone’s eyes to get blinded for a moment before the light dimmed and revealed that he was missing from the scene.

“Ah! Get off of me!” The king shouted, shoving the fallen Royal Guard away and rising to his feet with the help from the other Royal Guards. Then he forcefully shrugged their arms away from him and shouted, “Go after him, you fools! Apprehend that man!”

“Yes, sir!” His guards said in unison and left the room in a hurry while he sat down, fuming with rage.

Cyde, who had escaped and was hurrying away from the control room, quickly typed several buttons on his M.E.D. and activated it. In an instant, a holographic image appeared behind him, and there was a momentary static before it connected and displayed the first prince, Bolten’s, movement on the screen.

Bolten, who was helping and rescuing the people in need from the rubble and debris, heard a loud notification sound from his device. He glanced at it and saw that it was glowing slightly, indicating that someone was trying to contact him. So, when he pressed a button, a holographic image appeared in front of him, and he was surprised to see that the caller was the commander, Cyde.

Wondering why he was calling, Bolten pressed the “Answer” displayed on the screen and saw Cyde’s visual replace it. He immediately understood, just from his facial expression, that something had happened to make the commander look so worried, and the unexpected words he then heard from him shocked him.

“Sir, your father is at the control room and has ordered to launch the bomb!”

“What? My father did? That can’t be!”

“It is the truth, sir! I’m right now escaping because I opposed his plan, and he set his guards on me! I would’ve stood and fought, but needless people would’ve gotten caught in the crossfire.”

“It’s fine. More importantly, what about the launching sequence?” Bolten asked worriedly after waving away the commander’s apology.

“They have already began entering the coordinates and such. It’s the battlefield where the fused hero and that unknown entity are fighting right now.”

“Fused hero? What—? No! That doesn’t matter! Please go back and stop it at all costs! Even if you have to kill my father to do it!”

“You’re kidding me!”

“I’m not, commander! My father has lost his mind, and he’s going to put everyone in danger! Do what you must to stop this!”

Cyde was shocked by the first prince’s words, but he quickly nodded and said, “Yes, sir, but I may be too late! Please, hurry up with the evacuation and inform the heroes! Hurry!”

With that, the call got cut, and Bolten stood there, feeling shocked and dazed. He looked around at the people evacuating and glanced up at the sky, which was crystal clear with not a single cloud anywhere. However, he seemed to be looking up at something else that only he and a few selective people knew that existed up there.

Far high up in the sky, right into space, was a satellite stationed that seemed to be stationary and unmoving. On one glance, it appeared to be a regular satellite station, however, one would think otherwise when they found out the secret hidden in its depth. Soon, its secret was revealed when a hole at the bottom of the satellite station opened and a large strange looking device moved out to point its face towards the surface of the planet, ready to fire at will.
