CH. 61

On the wide ocean, there was an island. Well, there were many islands but there was only one with a very peculiar and magically-made topography. This island was perfectly circular and its ground was at an even height everywhere, with not a single bump. Except for those created by the overgrown luxuriant vegetation. Trees so high they held the sky and hide the sun.

There were many different kind of plants and the entire island brimmed with life. However, there wasn't a single animal in sight. There was nothing to be seen actually for the entire island was shrouded in the thickest of mist. A very weird purple colored mist that wasn't moving at all even though the wind was raging all around.

This was the first playground prepared to receive the guests.

On this island, there were three people waiting for their preys. Atem, Tempest and Lera. Atem was hiding deep inside the Earth and controlling things from the back-lines. Lera was tasked to protect him and Tempest was going to be hunting.

As for the preys, according to Shen's intelligence acquired mere moments ago, they amounted to close to a thousand beings of relative strength. They were going to be sent randomly throughout the island.

And indeed they were. It didn't take long for the first to arrive and the rest to follow. Unfortunately for them, even though you knew it was a trap beforehand doesn't mean you are prepared for it. The purple mist covering the entire island was more than just simple mist. It was a Mind Spell. And unfortunately for the most part of the bounty hunters, they weren't resistant enough to it.

This spell had two properties. The first one was to disorient the affected, making them unable to find their ways. The second one was to show them their greatest fears. And not in just any random ways. In fact, they would see their fears as images. And those images would actually overlap their comrades. They would be lonely, scared and unable to find a way out.

It wasn't long before the first screams of pain and insults were heard through the forest. It was at this time that Tempest, who had been sitting and meditating in the middle of the island, got up.

'Tempest: That's my starting bell'

He breathed deeply and then blew incomparably cold air out. The air slowly changed appearance to take on the form of the average adult wolf and it rushed inside the forest. Tempest kept on blewing cold air. The first part of this game was to thin the ranks and take care of the small fries.

The closest people to Tempest sound found themselves sighting wolves made of mist rushing to them. The pure concentration of the mist making them think they were made of ice and not air. They tried to hack at them and failed. Only magic hit them and managed to break their forms...But the mist moved on. And whenever it touched someone, it was absorbed into the part touched and slowly bur surely was freezing it.

The freezing part grew and grew until the being was completely prisonner of ice and once he was, he woudl explode. The explosion would create more mists that turned to wolves and rushed once more inside the forest. Only those who found a way to cope entirely with the spell would survive it.

And there were some. One of them was a legendary mercenary. Out of the sleeves came out two long and thin tentacles enclosed in metal with barbs and randomly placed pointy ends. Everytime a mist-wolf was approaching, regardless of from where, they were stricken down by the tentacles. And the mist was dispersing. There was only one way to fight the mist wolves. It was to attack them with fire magic. And a fire magic strong enough. Which meant that an amount of magic as high as the one used to create the spell needed to be used everytime.

As he walked calmly towards the destination of his own prey, Der was studying the spell and deducing the abilities of its user.

'Der??: This is a profileration-type spell under the ice and wind category. It likely has a very small starting magical amount requirement. An efficient way to deal with the trash and slowly exhaust the more dangerous ones. Perfect for this situation where the opponent is outnumbered by a lot... The purple mist is a Mind spell that creates fear and disorientation. It forces us to envelopp ourselves in a protective barrier to resist it and while it doesn't require much magic, it does require some to be spent constantly...'

'Der??: They have prepared well for a battle of attrition. This is a well-picked ladnscape too as it is neither completely night or day due to the trees... But why so much greenery? There is probably some more use to it. I need to keep it in mind... Now, regardless, I don't think many will be able to survive through this combination of mist and ice spells. It is worth being considered a WWW difficulty mission~ So exciting~'

'Der??: And to think that there was even a Titan participating on the other side, I am very lucky~ I wonder if it is the mist or the ice type? Regardless, it will be quite the tasty meal~ I should probably be able to also claim this wolrd if I am the one to take out the Titan~'

The hooded man was walking with a very casual pace towards Lera without being bothered by either the mist or the ice. On the other hand, there weren't many like him. It hadn't been more than twenty minutes that no more than a hundred out of the thousands were still alive. They had either died frozen in ice and creating more ice wolves or died killed by a comrade who saw them as one of his fears and attacked.

Atem and Tempest were now getting ready for the next surprise.
