CH. 37

Atem: The woman answered him because she had known him for a long time and she had loved him too though they had never been open about it. It was scary as a youth to truly love someone. Shen had become a playboy in his time to flee the feelings and she had ignored them. Regardless, she could not help but feel too sad looking at the old man he became. And so, she answered him.

Atem: She told him "I am a traveller" and that changed everything. From there he learnt what travellers were really after. The world's seeds. For a world to be created, a God, a real one, will plant a seed and grow it with his power. And that seed, regardless of the time that pass, will have that power stored. The power of a God. A very very very tiny fraction of it. But a God's power still.

Atem: The travellers were not adventurers. They were thieves who were after the energy of other worlds. Not for their world but for themselves. Absorbing a tiny fraction of that tiny amount was enough to grant so many benefits. A boost in comprehension and energy, a more powerful body constitution...And more than anything, longevity. More years to live. And it kept your body in the most pristine of state.

Atem: As he learnt of this, he tried to enter a team. It wasn't hard considering his well-known abilities. He was easily taken in by a powerful team. As he agreed to their offer, he also received one from the woman who put him on this path. Considering his age, he decided to reject her in profit of the stronger team. A mistake he would pay.

Atem: He crossed the door thats a window with this new team and they ended up in a barren world. However, those were the best worlds. They had a seed and nothing to protect them. As such, he managed to get a portion of the seed. However, he noticed that a portion had been left there. As they were going back, he asked why. He was told that by leaving a bit of it, it could grow again given enough centuries.

Atem: He also learnt that if you took the entire thing, the world would collapse in a matter of years. Which is why it was better to leave a little so you could harvest it again later. If you were still alive. But a traveller...Unless it is killed, it doesn't die. From nothing.

Atem: And as he returned, he learnt that a team had been killed. It was wishful and naive to believe that there was only one powerful world capable of travelling and stealing seeds. The love of his life that he never had the bravery to conquer died. The pain he felt when he saw her frozen corpse was tremendous.

Atem: He used his very special abilities to check her corpse in hope to find clues on the murderer... And found something else. Even in death, she seemed to help him... Her soul was still there. Parts of it. Some parts of her soul had been frozen along with the body. How it was possible he did not know yet but he knew the potential this provided for his research.

Atem: At that time though, he was hating himself for thinking of his reasearch when she was there, like that, in such a state... He was youthful again and had a longer life ahead of him only thanks to her. Yet, when she asked him to come with her, he rejected and now she died. Truly sad.

Atem sipped some tea as he hoped to create some atmosphere. The woman in front of him did not seem moved though. Pity he thought.

Atem: Well. That's also when a crazy idea appeared in his head. If he could get eternal life through turning into a puppet...Couldn't he revive her as long as he had the ingredients? What was really a life? To him, he only needed two things. Well, more like three. A body, A soul and a little Magic. After all, his research in Souls proved him that memories were not only stocked into the brains but the souls as well.

Atem: After that single adventure, he returned to the academy and proceeded with his research. This time he mastered ice Magic. After many tries, he managed to succeed in turning someone into a living independent puppet. It was the birth of the first immortal puppet that was not really a puppet. He did kill it right away though.

Atem: As things stood, he was ready to bring her back. As he went to get back her corpse with the little remnants of her soul in it, he was once more brought to his knees by the sadness. Her family had had her body burnt. Fucking Fire Magician, may their souls burn in hell.

Atem: Then, after that, even though he was despairing at his loss, he began to search how he could apply all this to himself.Unfortunately for him, he was the only one who knew how and the only one he trusted to do this too. However, it was quite impossible, even for him, to operate on his entire body. It was just impossible. And so, he pondered. And pondered some more.

Atem: And after some time...He found a way. His soul. You see, souls are very strong entities by nature. With a very small part of a soul, and time, a new complete one can be created. And the soul is the mirror of the self, containing most of the memories. He made a body with six arms, cut a part of his soul, infused it in and froze the entire construct.

Atem: The surgery was painful. However as a Mind Magician, he knew how to make himself think it was not. Magic is a blessing. Once the construct created, he used both Mind and Soul Magic to extract the memories and make them flow into the construct freezing the veins of memories as they kept flowing. This way, everything was linked and everything was there.

Atem: Moments later, the puppet opened its eyes. It was not a puppet but an eternal copy of him with all his memories and all his knowledge. A living double. Though they looked nothing like each other. From there, the copy worked on the original and turnt it into a puppet too. A few days later and there was two eternal puppets with the same memories and the same identity: Shen.
