Slightly rewinding time when the spirit's speech ended, Atem had cast a spell on the unsuspecting Adeline. Her eyes rolled on themselves while she still stood on her two feet.
Atem: Make one, Shen.
Shen: On it.
Shen placed his hand facing each other and began to craft with Magic. He was crafting a beating heart.
Cynthia: What's going on?
Lera: They're opening the seal...
Lera turned to look at Adeline with a slight look of pity. She sighed as she said:
Lera: Poor girl. She won't like this.
Cynthia: I don't understand?
Lera: Just watch.
The creation of the heart was successful and quick. Shen moved towards Adeline and gave her the heart that she received with both hands. She was still in a trance while Atem was maintaining his spell on her. She moved forward and nearly fell, Shen had to catch her. He was then forced to help her to the spirit. And she dropped the heart inside it.
The spirit made chewing sounds and the voice was heard once more:
???: Well done~ What a tasty meal~
Then, the spirit vanished in smoke. Its paintings on the door no longer there. The light returned to its original color and the door behind them reopened.
As it did so, Adeline's eyes returned to normal and she looked around as tears were constantly raining from her eyes. Then, she spot Tempest. He was alive and looking at her with his usual dumb dog face. She didn't even think before reachign to hug him as the crying and sneezing mess she was. He sighed as he felt the snot and tears in his fur...He would need to wash later for sure. Still, considering what she might have lived, he didn't rush her. Instead he hugged her back and nursed her to calm down.
Adeline: H-how can you still be alive?! You took out your own heart!
Tempest: Sorry... It was the only way...
Adeline: What? What do you mean?! Whats' going on?!
Atem: I threw a spell at you, Adeline. An illusion. It was all fake.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Adeline: Fake? Fake?! Why would you do that?! I saw him kill himself!
Atem: There were no other options. He had to be the heart of a loved one and...Well...You were the only one who might be able to find that.
Adeline: Why?!
Atem: Well, I hardly want to die, not even in an illusion and I couldn't really have the leader die either so I picked Tempest...
Adeline: Not this! Why did you made me experience it?! I want a real answer! Now!
Shen: I am sorry Adeline. We had no choice. A spirit is a confluence of leftover feelings, mostly negative ones and as such, it notices and feed on feelings. In this particular scenario, it was able to detect the lingering feelings of love on the heart. And so, we had to make someone feel it...You were the only one able to. Be it me, Atem, Tempest or Lera... We wouldn't have been able to feel it.
'Shen: Since we don't have hearts from the start, we could never trick ourselves into seeing the hearts of the others. As for Cynthia and Adeline, we probably don't love them enough...'
Adeline: What? But the heart! I-I was holding a heart in my hands!
Atem: Shen could create a system where any organic parts was created for the dungeon. Making a single human heart himself isn't hard.
Adeline: It was all a lie?...
Shen: Yes. Sorry.
Atem: Sorry.
Adeline: Don't ever do that again! I really thought he died!
Tempest: She's right. Don't ever make me die again, fuckers.
The group began to laugh. The tension had to be dispersed in some ways.
In any case, they had cleared the trap and could now open the door. Which they did. And they entered a huge hangar. In the middle of it was a translucent membrane of sorts. Behind it was a door. An average wooden door you could see anywhere. This one though was standing straight in the middle of the room. Beyond the membrane.
Shen: ...It was here.
They walked up to the membrane. Atem inspected it.
Atem: A seal.
Tempest punched it with all his might for it to not even budge a milimeter. Not even a riple was induced upon the construct. It was now obvious that it would not be destroyed through violence. So, how?... Cynthia was the one to provide the answer.
Cynthia: What are those? Why are there locks floating around?
They all turned to see that there were indeed seven locks floating in the membrane randomly. They each had a number and a gold-plated keyhole.
Shen: I heard that they each gave a key to trustworthy people before leaving...And that those keys were made through their lives.
Atem: They likely imbued them with a little of it in order to cross it themselves whenever they needed to. It would have been a pain to them too otherwise. Now, I wonder, have you also heard were those seven keys are?
Shen sighed as he shaked his head. He had not. In fact, he believed it would be quite a pain to find them... At that time, Lera was acting suspicious.
Lera: W-well, it can't be helped...You guys can just stay. Y-yeah, it's not that bad.
Shen: Spit it out.
Lera: I d-don't know anything...
They were all looking at her and urging her to speak. It was obvious that she was caught. In truth, she didn't want them to leave this world, leave her...But she could not keep them here forever, that she knew. They belonged to a bigger scene. So, she answered:
Lera: Well, there was that girl who told me she was going to search for the golden keys...
Shen: Who was it?
Lera: She's the last of her kind and believed that another would appear to get those keys... Regardless of how many times I told her she was the last one, she didn't believe it. Firmly believing another would come. For those keys.
Shen: Let's go meet her.
