They left the dungeon through a different portal that Atem made. They still exited at the entrance spot they came in through but since they had shut down the dungeon functions, they had to work a little harder. In any case, they were out. And it turned out that soldiers were surrounding the grounds filled with the other delvers that hadn't yet been allowed to leave.
A corpse was also seen amongst the area...Probably someone did something not perceived as very nice inside the dungeon and he paid the price.
Nothing of that mattered to the group though.
Shen: Where is she?
Lera: At the cathedral of Renhlight, what's left of it anyways.
Shen: Alright. I will go with Lera to get the keys. You guys go back to the Mansion for now.
Tempest: No. We're going too. Atem, open a portal.
Shen: Why would y-
Before he could finish his sentence, Atem had opened another portal prompting the looks of everyone to gather on them. They didn't care anymore. They had only acted inconspicuously before in order to get the information they needed without creating much of a commotion. It wasn't that they couldn't have handled it, no, but that it was bothersome. The fact they had been sealed for long was also a reason they craved for social interactions.
In any case, under the watchful gaze of the crowd, they all stepped through the portal. There was no meaning to Shen trying to dissuade them anymore.
They reappeared on the right top side of a rift inside the earth. This rift dated back to the arrivals of the ten friends. Back then, they weren't the only ones trying to harvest this world's seed. This was the physical manifestion of the battle that took place. One of them anyways.
It had been a clean cut through the ground creating a fissure fifty meters deep and hundreds large. After that famous battle, one of the races on the side of the winners claimed the area. They were the vampires. They had always followed Shen since his arrival for the sole reason that he had parts of a vampire. His teeth.
Shen was no vampire but they couldn't help but feel as if he was due to those teeth. They contained the essence of their race. And, more than anything, were imbued with so much power compared to their strongest that they saw him as their vampire god. He never took on the title though but that doesn't mean the vampires forgot it.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
They claimed the ridge stating that it was proof of the strength of their God and their race. Then, they built a fortress down there and made a castle specially for him. He never went there to live and they never let anyone else live there. It was an act of worship and respect.
In his honor, they named it the Cathedral of Renhlight. It was a location of whorship thus the cathedral diminutive. They picked Renhlight in reference to how he brought light to their dark realities. This was a palace with no inhabitants back in the days but now it seemed that the last vampire claimed it for herself. He didn't mind. He never considered it is after all.
He was no vampire and he believed such. The teeth that he fused with his body came from a real High-Lord of the vampire race from a different world, one in which that vampire had been the Titan. Could there be a natural-born vampire stronger than a Titan-born one? Considering that a Titan is the de facto strongest of his world by a landslide, it can be guessed that it would be rare.
As he was still remembering about this race and their antics, explosions resounded from inside the crevasse. They ran towards the cliffside and peered down. The light was barely reaching down there which had made it a praised fortress by the vampires and other night-related species. Adeline and Cynthia didn't share the opinion as they could not see shit from up here. The others could.
Atem: Your fortress is a ruin, leader.
Tempest: And they are ruining it further. Look.
Another explosion resounded. It had been close enough to a building that it was collapsing it. From the generated smoke, they spotted a black-clothed being swiftly rushing towards the attacker. The unlucky attacker was wearing a pure white robe with seven stars embroidered on it. He had used a good spell and seemed to be a Mage of certain caliber in this world.
Unfortunately for him, he wasn't as quick as he had been magically gifted. The cloaked being reached him and grasped his head both hands before spreading them, separating the poor man into two halves before rushing elsewhere for more cover. Not even a moment later, the place they had been exploded completely destroying the halves and sending pieces of flesh and entrails all around.
At least two dozens humans wearing the same kind of cloth as the previous one were rushing after the cloaked murderer. It was at this time that Lera pushed Shen down the cliff.
Lera: Don't just stand there! Go save her!
And he fell down. Considering what Lera said, the cloaked being was the vampire they were after. Well, he could have guessed as much. What was weird was why she ended up pushing him to go help. After all, that vampire was far stronger the twenty robbed guys. Far stronger. He would still go help anyways since he was already falling there.
He bounced in the air and sped towards the group of attackers just as the woman stopped running away. She had led them into an open area.
???: You finally stopped fleeing, you wrench!
???: I didn't want to stain the holy grounds further, mind you.
???: Abject creature, repent for your sins and die!
???: You are the ones dying today.
As they both prepared to rush at each other, something fell loudly between them creating a vast amount of dust to erupt. From inside it, the silhouette of a man could be seen. Then, they could observe blue lights randomly appearing around the shade.
???: Who are you?
Shen: The owner. And you?
