She calmed herself down and began to cast a simple spell that everyone knew. A personnal variant of the Light Orb Spell. Dozens of butterflies made of light appeared around her and began flapping their wings in her surroundings. It was more than enough to light the small cavern she was in.
There was nothing around her except rocks. She was in a corridor, in the middle of it, alone. Where should she go now? There were only two options...Well, three. But staying in place might not be the best bet. So, which path to take... As she was trembling in fear while trying to make up her mind, she felt a loud slap and everything went blank.
Shen: See, this always works.
Atem: To think you would dare slap a lady sleeping...
Adeline woke up in a similar corridor. The only thing they had in common was that they were both corridors though. Contrary to the previous scary and dark one, this one was very bright. There were lanterns aflame every five steps or so on both sides of the walls.
As she looked around, she saw everyone was up and looking at her. Next, she noticed how cushy she felt sitting on the ground...It was not ground. It was pillows. Everywhere. There were dozens of pillows.
Cynthia: Is she ok?
Atem: Yes, don't worry, we just let her fell to the spell~ for experience~
Adeline: W-What? What is going on? Where are we? Where was I?
Tempest: Relax. Just breath slowly. Right. Inhale, exhale.
Shen: They always have this kind of reaction...
Lera: It's never tiring.
Atem: So true.
Adeline: Will someone explain what's going on?!
Shen: Welcome to the dungeon, Adeline.
Adeline: This place doesn't feel like the dungeon. The previous one was more dungeon-like. We're walking on pink pillows here!
Shen: Yeah. It would be bad if someone managed to hit himself on rocks while arriving here.
Adeline: Seriously! I need an answer for once!
Shen: *sigh*
Lera: Adeline, who do you think made the dungeons and why?
If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Adeline: Uh? How should I know?! What has that got to do with this?!
Lera pointed to the group and said:
Lera: They made the dungeons.
There was a long silence as not only Adeline but Cynthia too began to process this information. Then they began to querry for more information without masking their curiosity and excitement.
Shen: Lera asked us to...It's an old story. Not worth talking about.
Adeline: I want to know! I need to!
Shin: *sigh* The story happened when so-called monsters and heretics were still of this world. She was unhappy because of the killings between every creatures. So, we made the dungeon.
Cynthia: This was definitely not helpful. And what do you mean when they were of this world? Atem, how old are you guys?!
Atem: Twenty-two forever~
Cynthia: No, but-
Atem: That's not the point, Cynthia~ What matters is that we made the dungeon so no more killings, ok?
Cynthia: Eh?
Shen: We created a folded space, outside the world itself and named it the dungeon. We placed 156 entrances all over the world. Any being could enter. Once they entered, they would randomly be dumped in here, hence the pillows. At the same time, another spell would latch onto them.
Before he could go on, Atem glared at him. That was a way to remind him that he was not supposed to tell them they were the 'heretics'...Though, to Shen, by now, it didn't matter anymore. He was ready to dump those two whenever. Still, he decided to indulge the wishes of his other self.
Shen: It is a special spell that put them to sleep and have them enter a special dream. Everytime the same and for everyone at the same time. A single dream for all dreamers... That's the dungeon and where you thought you were at first, Adeline. I only woke you up because what we need is not in the dream.
Adeline: What? I don't quite understand...And you said all beings? Even monsters? And what about the loot! Adventurers come out of the dungeon with loot!
Shen: *Sigh* This takes too long, let's move on.
Shen left it as is and went ahead. The others followed but Cynthia and Adeline were far from done and kept pestering them. In the end, it was Lera that explained it:
Lera: I asked them to create a place where they could keep training and killing without really harming anyone. They made this. If a human enters, he will face what you consider monsters from slimes to dragons depending on his capabilities. If a slime enters, he will face humans, elves, beastmen, dragons... Depending on the species, different paths were available.
Cynthia: That's a lot to take in.
Adeline: So everything we knew about the dungeon was fake?!
Lera: Yes. It is much better to leave it at that.
Cynthia: Still, what about the loot? Adeline was right to ask. If everything is fake, how can there be loot?
Lera: The factory at the end. You will see. Well, hardly anyone would have come to fight in the dungeons if there was nothing to get from it while fighting outside would net them...loot... And so, we created a system of rewards. We there soon Shen?
Shen: Yeah.
Cynthia: A factory? What is that?
Lera: Hm~ A production center? Somewhat?
Atem: It is the place where the so-called loot is made, Cynthia. You will love it~
Cynthia: Uh, ok?
They kept walking and before they managed to reach the factory, they encountered a group of five sleeping people. Two humans and three elves. One was even snoring.
Cynthia: ...The fuck...
Adeline: A-are they in the dungeon?
Atem: Yes... Would you like to see~?
Before anyone could object or agree, Atem walked towards the closest one and put his hand on the sleeping one's forehead. Then, he extended his other one towards the opposite wall and images began to play for all the group to see.
An epic fight between the five sleepers, awake in there, against a dozen trolls.
