The woman woke up soon enough surrounded by her party members. Two warriors and a priest, all A rank. They had very concerned expressions on their faces. That was very unlike them. They rarely showed their care on their faces. What's more, this was overreacting considering that she did not receive real physical damage during the battle. But then, she heard one of the warriors...
???: Oh, fuck yeah! You're finally up! Let's go! The second examination is starting! I don't want to miss it!
Turned out they weren't anxious about her well-being but by missing the examinations... At least, they still stayed here waiting on her, ready to miss it for her. While she was a little angry, the concern they showed her was enough to make her smile. She got up and followed them as they ran towards the arena.
While she ran, she couldn't help but thinking of what she saw and what it meant if it was true. She needed to confirm it but how? And even she did, what then? As she reached this point in her thinking, she remembered what the man had said while leaving the arena... Was it directed towards her?! Did he knew she noticed?! Considering his abilities, it's not impossible but if that was true...Scary.
She was brought back to reality by the host's screams and the cheers of the crowd. Soon, she was back under the sunlight and in the stands reserved for the participating examiners. She was not the only one to be one in her team but the other one, one of the warriors, was to confront the wolfman.
Anyways, the battle would start soon as the host was introducing every A rank fighters. As she looked at them, she noticed how they were clearly different from her group. While the ones from her group had been calm yet confident, these people were excited and on guard. She could feel the adrenaline rush in her body even though it was not her fight.
Meanwhile, Adeline was questionning Shen incessantly.
Adeline: What were those clouds?! What was this fire?! And how could you be so violent towards them!
Shen: I only used Magic Projectile though... As for the clouds, they are what you could call a Domain. Atem will teach you later when you get to the required level. That aside, look at his battle and learn.
Adeline: Atem said the same when you went up...
You might be reading a stolen copy. Visit Royal Road for the authentic version.
Shen: I'm sure he did.
Shen was fixing his gaze on Atem. He was not liking the smirk on the face of the Magus. It was unlikely but if his sadistic personnality were to take over here... Shen had to be careful. He might need to intervene.
...
Atem was in front of ten adventurers supposed to be A rank, the cream of the crop. And yet, the only thought he had was how to play with his new toys... He jovially gazed at them. Ten melee fighters. Six rogues at that. They really were biased about him. Did they think that because he was a Magus, he would have a difficult time facing them? What a joke.
Before the host could start the examination, Atem spoke in a way that everyone could hear him at the same volume. It was a sound transmission kind of spell. His message was only directed towards Adeline but he couldn't help but showcase his mastery of magic to all. Who does not enjoy fame? And so, he said:
Atem: Adeline, watch closely and listen well for I will teach you how a Magus is to deal with melee fighters.
Adeline nodded even though Atem was not even looking at her. And then, the host decided to start the battle.
Instantly, four of the rogues entered the protection of some stealth techniques. However, did that mean anything to Atem? He conjured a spell and a completely dark eye with a red pupil in the form of a whirlpool appeared in his hand. He threw it up and it grew in the sky to be as big as the arena.
Atem: First, you need to make sure that you can see them. The Eye of Suspicion is a very good spell to do so.
As he finished his sentence, he snapped his fingers and a red light bathed the stage revealing the hidden figures. They were sprinting towards Atem and close to reaching him. At the very last moment, he disappeared and reappeared on a side of the arena with no one. He spoke:
Atem: A spell to teleport yourself is a must. Distance is what amtters most to a Magus. Now that you can move away, make sure that the opposite cannot.
As he said so, he waved his left hand and dozens of dark shades looking like arms errupted from the ground and began to grab the ten adventurers. They were immobilized.
Atem: This spell, Shady Arms, is very useful in such situations as it covers a wide area of effect. Not only does it stick to the opponent but it was very nice properties, cursing kinds. Now that the opponents are unable to move, it is time to end them. A good spell is required.
As he said so, he opened up his palm forward and slowly, dark light began to amass strangely shaping a spherical white contraption with many crevices and protruding tubes. As the contraption finally appeared, it looked mostly innofensive however it was at this moment that both Atem and Shen spoke at the same time. The latter drowning the first in volume.
Atem: Black St-
Shen: ATEM!!!!
Atem tch'ed and gave up on the spell. As he did so, the white sphere turned to sand that disappeared in the wind. Atem had indeed been ready to go too far. This was a devastating spell, Black Star, that could reduce the entire arena in cinders. No, even the entire city would have burnt to ashes.
In the end, Atem waved his hand once mroe and a flurry of Magic Projectiles flew towards each adventurer. They were hit squarely in their chests and passed out all at the same time. Atem walked away as the arms and the floating eye evaporated in the air.
