Chapter 620 Don't Reject Me
"Alpha King Zander is already betrothed to Alpha Albert's daughter, and Queen Selena is promised to God Kaelvor. It's only fair to proceed with the planned arrangements and not disrupt them simply because the Alpha King suddenly realized he is the mate of our queen," the High Priestess argued firmly in my favor. She cast a sharp, instructive glance my way, urging me to speak. But I remained silent, unsure why I felt compelled to hold my tongue.
"High Priestess, how can you say that?" Zander retorted, his tone filled with fury. My gaze lingered on the imposing figure of my mate, the Alpha King, as tension filled the air. A deep unease settled in my chest, knowing that a conflict between my mother and my mate was brewing. If it came to a confrontation, whose side would I even take?
"You know what a mate means to us werewolves!" Zander's thunderous voice echoed through the hall, his words cutting through the murmur of the council like a blade.
"The times have changed, Alpha King," my mother countered, her voice steady and firm. "Now your mate gets to decide whether she wants to be with you or not."
Whether to be with him or not? My eyes widened in disbelief at the absurdity of the phrase. Of course, I wanted to be with my mate. I loved him deeply, and there was no question about it. Whether it was the dawn of civilization or the most advanced era, I would always choose him-my mate.
"Why don't you ask my mate instead of deciding on her behalf, High Priestess?" Zander growled, his voice dripping with frustration as he turned an accusatory glare toward my mother.
"Queen Selena," the council head interjected, his tone formal and measured, "would you like to make a statement so the council can reach a decision?"
I glanced at my mother, whose sharp stare silently urged me to side with her and let down my Alpha King. Then my gaze shifted to Zander, and the hope flickering in his eyes made my resolve falter. My lips trembled as I bit down on them, feeling utterly torn and conflicted.
'Think about your people and the Lunar Realm, Selena. This is not the time to be selfish or give in to your materialistic desires,' my mother's commanding voice echoed in my head through telepathy.
I knew I had to decide, and quickly. Taking a deep breath, I turned to face the council head.
But before I could speak, the heavy toll of a giant bell signaled the break.
"The trial is on hold until the lunch break," the council head announced, rising from his seat. Everyone followed suit, standing and preparing to leave. When the council head exited the room, the rest of the attendees began filing out for lunch.
I glanced at my mother, and our eyes met briefly.
"I want to go to the ladies' room to freshen up," I said softly. She nodded silently and I stepped out of the council chamber.
The building seemed vast, with high ceilings and endless corridors, making it easy to get lost. I glanced left and right but couldn't spot any signs pointing to the washroom. Feeling a bit overwhelmed, I stopped and asked a nearby guard for directions.
"Take a left," he instructed curtly, gesturing down a corridor.
Holding the long skirt of my wedding
dress in my hands, I walked
carefully, making sure not to trip over the flowing fabric. As I reached
the far end of the hallway, I found it silent and vacant, but the ladies' room was nowhere in sight. I noticed another left turn and took it, hoping to find what I was looking for. I desperately needed a few moments of privacy to gather my thoughts. Being alone and away from him would help me strengthen my resolve to reject my mate and return to the Lunar Realm.
As I walked further, a sudden presence behind me sent shivers down my spine. The next moment, the familiar, intoxicating scent filled my senses. I knew he was there. spun around promptly, but before I could react, a strong hand wrapped around my waist. In the blink of an eye, I was pulled into a nearby corner room, and the door slammed shut behind us.
"What are you doing, Alpha Zander? Someone will see us," I gasped, panting breathlessly, overwhelmed
by the incredible speed he'd shown and the sheer proximity of my irresistible mate.
"I don't care, mate. I want them all to know that you're mine," his low, possessive growl sent shivers through me, making my heart flutter with a mix of nervousness and an unfamiliar, thrilling sensation.
His hard, firm body, clad in a tailored black suit and crisp white shirt, pressed against my delicate form, and I fought the overwhelming urge to writhe under his touch. His intoxicating breath fanned my face as he exhaled heavily, and his piercing blue eyes locked onto mine, leaving me nearly hypnotize@under his spell. Goddess, how was I supposed to fight him when every fiber of my being craved him, longed for him so desperately? I averted my eyes, feeling torn between my feelings and my duty. He tucked a finger under my chin, gently lifting my face to make me look at him.
"Mate, I know you're going to reject me in the council and return to your realm," he whispered, hurt lacing his deep, sensual voice.
I blinked in surprise, wondering how it was possible for him to know what I was thinking.
He moved closer, if it was even possible, because he was already so close that no air could pass between
us.
"Don't do this to me, mate," the begging edge in his voice made my heart ache. Alpha King Zander Blake's ego was bigger than the mountain, yet here he was, willing to put it aside and beg me to stay. "We... we don't belong to the same world, Alpha," I murmured, my voice weak and filled with despair. He exhaled sharply and cupped my face in his large hand. "You belong to me, and I belong to you, mate. Give me a chance to prove it to you."noveldrama
His voice turned huskier, his lips parting and hovering over mine before closing the gap and capturing my trembling, anticipated lips with his.
