Matthew looked at Renae for a bit longer. How did Renae not get it?

He asked with a smile, "What do you think? Why does Rachel hate me?"

Renae's mouth twitched. "It's because of love." She wasn't keen on saying those words.

Matthew nodded, or else he wouldn't be smiling so cheerfully. The only reason he could think of for his breakup with Rachel was the threat from the Wood family.

Just thinking about the Wood family made Matthew's eyes blaze with fury. He exuded such a cold presence that it felt like the temperature around him had dropped.

Renae noticed that Matthew's demeanor had suddenly shifted. It reminded her of the deadly presence he had during the spa incident. Fear stirred inside her. It was like the kind she felt around someone formidable. She used to avoid guys like that, but after Marcus was killed, she changed her mind and found herself wanting someone powerful like Matthew.noveldrama

When Renae caught sight of the murderous intent in Matthew's eyes, she felt inexplicably excited with her eyes lit up.

A few cars parked just a short distance away. Dominic got out of the car and walked over to Matthew. "Why are you still standing here?"

Matthew's expression returned to normal as he gestured toward Opulent Club. "I'll drop the book inside. Feel free to wait here."

Dominic nodded. "Just make sure to hurry. I'll stay outside."

Matthew hummed in acknowledgment and took the motorized tricycle around to the back.

After Matthew left, Dominic shook his head. "Who've thought we're protecting someone like this?"

Lucien nodded. "It's quite a letdown. When you all head back, nobody talks about it. Otherwise, I'll be too embarrassed to show my face in front of people."

Leo sighed. "What a bummer. We're protecting someone who's beneath even my chauffeur."

The group chattered among themselves, saying all kinds of stuff. Most of them felt like Matthew wasn't worthy of their protection.

Dominic was in the middle of the conversation when he suddenly noticed a figure not far away. He was taken aback. Was that Isaac? It was really him.

Out of all the rich kids, Dominic came from the most powerful family. Still, his father had to be humble in front of Horace and greet him respectfully. Even Isaac thought he was too good to play with him.

Lucien noticed Dominic was zoned out. When he looked over, he caught sight of Isaac walking toward them. He couldn't help but exclaim, "What's Isaac doing here?"

Dominic regained his composure. "Let's go say hi." With that, he led the way, heading straight to Isaac.

Isaac came today to make Rachel give in. Even though she had verbally agreed, he didn't get anything valuable from it.

Up to this point, Isaac hadn't held Rachel's hand. They hadn't kissed at all, let alone sleeping together.

When Isaac came to the entrance of Opulent Club, he suddenly spotted a few familiar faces all from the same military compound. He stopped in his tracks. "What brings you here?"

Grinning, Dominic walked up to him and politely said, "We're assigned a mission here, Mr. Wood. How did you end up here?" Isaac shrugged. "I'm just here for a woman."

Dominic beamed and remarked, "What kind of woman manages to impress Mr. Wood? She must be really lucky."

He spoke in a fawning manner.

The people nearby chimed in. "Yeah. Anyone who catches Mr. Wood's eyes must be incredibly lucky." After a quick chat, Isaac went inside Opulent Club.

With Isaac gone, Dominic chuckled and commented, "When I came to Lambda, I thought this boring city didn't have any big shots, so I'm surprised to find out that Isaac is here too.

"Honestly speaking, if Isaac is after Matthew's life, I'd just have to sit back and watch it happen."

Lucien echoed, "I didn't expect to run into Isaac here as well."

Leo suddenly asked Dominic, "I rushed over without knowing what was going on. I still don't know who's after Matthew's life. Can you fill us in, Mr. Larkin?"

Dominic shook his head. "I only

heard there was a mission, so I snatched it up. I only have a rough idea we're protecting Matthew, but I don't know who is after him.
