Shane mulled over the challenges that Carlisle's company had with their cash flow. Although he couldn't be of much help, Shane figured he should send Carlisle now that he had some money. At that thought, he sent half the money he received to Carlisle. Almost instantly, Carlisle called. He said, "I thought you didn't have any money. Why did you give me so much money all of a sudden? Where did that money come from?"
Shane could sense Carlisle's concern over the phone. In the past, Shane was too immature, and that infuriated Carlisle. Yet, Carlisle was still concerned about Shane, fearing that Shane might actually sever ties with him.
Shane felt touched and couldn't articulate his emotions. He said, "Well, I had a lot of membership cards. Some of them told me that I'm no longer eligible to access their clubs, so I canceled my membership with them."
Shane continued embarrassedly, "I was expecting to get a few million dollars at most, but I hadn't expected them to refund so much money. I know the company isn't doing too well, so I thought I should send some money for backup." Shane sounded happy as he said that.
Just days ago, Carlisle was angry with Shane. But now that Shane was being so thoughtful, Carlisle couldn't help but feel his heart soften.
He couldn't stop thinking about how Shane was living alone out there. Shane never worked a day in his life, and he should be running out of money very soon. Without anyone monitoring Shane, Carlisle was curious to know how Shane was doing. However, Carlisle figured that Shane probably wasn't doing too well. Otherwise, somebody as prideful as Shane would never cancel his club memberships.
Carlisle asked, "Did you keep some money for yourself?"
Shane answered happily, "I kept a little. Don't worry, Dad. I won't starve myself."
Carlisle had initially decided to only allow Shane to come home after he turned over a new leaf. But now, Carlisle thought Shane had made substantial changes.
Carlisle said, "If you can't get used to living away from home, you can come back. There will always be a place for you at home."

Carlisle couldn't express how he felt-he had always wanted Shane to grow. But now that Shane was rapidly maturing, Carlisle found himself wallowing in a bittersweet mix of emotions.
Carlisle said, "Okay. Let's do as you say."
After hanging up, Carlisle called Justin and said, "Find out how Shane has been living ever since I cut ties with him." "Roger that."
As Shane ended the call with Carlisle, Yvonne emerged from the kitchen with a dish in hand. She asked nonchalantly, "Were you on the phone with your dad?"
Shane hurriedly got up and went to the kitchen, answering, "Yeah."
The thought of Shane potentially leaving filled Yvonne with joy. She asked, "What did you talk about?"
"Work stuff. I plan to get a job and earn money," Shane answered, not wanting to hide from Yvonne.
Shane continued, "I can't just live here and expect you to pay for my living expenses."
For the first time in his life, Shane felt useless. After all, Yvonne cooked her own meals.
But when Yvonne heard Shane's words, she stared at him in surprise. As Shane set the table in the living room, he met Yvonne's eyes.
"What?"
