Oh, did Sandra want the medical literature now? Matthew knitted his brows. Sandra was a greedy woman, and he'd personally encountered it.
Ever since Renae had been widowed, Sandra had never once been considerate of her daughter enough to find her a reliable husband.
Instead, she kept using Renae to earn money and requested 500 thousand dollars as a wedding gift.
500 thousand dollars could be considered a shocking amount as a wedding gift, and it was rare to see anyone accept such a request from the villages and towns surrounding Lambda City.
But who knew that Sandra would seek after the medical literature since she couldn't acquire 500 thousand dollars? She was getting even greedier!
When Sandra saw that Matthew was stunned, she hurriedly urged, "What are you thinking about? Don't you want to marry my daughter? You should show your sincerity if you want to marry her!"
Before Matthew could even speak, Renae opened her mouth and said, "Mom, this medical literature belonged to him in the first place. Besides, to hold onto this book comes with a heavy responsibility. We can't take it!" After Sandra heard what Renae had said, she glared at Renae. "Shut up! Why do you keep speaking for him when I was the one who raised you?
"It's not as if you've never met a guy before. Don't you want to receive even the tiniest bit of money?"
Renae never thought that Sandra would be saying such words and stomped her foot in a fit of anger. "Mom, what are you talking about?"
However, Sandra ignored her and turned to look at Matthew. Then, she stretched her hand out once again. "Give me the medical literature now, and I'll hand my daughter to you.
"I won't care about how she lives from now on, so you can do whatever you want to her! It's possible as long as you give me the medical literature!"
Matthew became furious upon hearing her words. How could she sell her daughter for some medical literature? He never thought he'd meet a woman as vicious as Sandra.
He asked coldly, "Are you sure you want this medical literature?"
Sandra could hear a warning underlying his words, but she couldn't care less. "I'm sure that I want it, so give it to me. You can take Renae away, and you don't have to bring her back if you don't want to!" Upon hearing that, Renae began to freeze by the side. Tears were streaming down her face in agony.
She was standing under the burning sun, yet her body was covered in chills that made her tremble. Renae knew that Sandra was a greedy woman, but she never thought that...
Just then, Matthew pulled out the medical literature and waved it in his hand. It was the Scholarly Tradition!
He stared at Sandra and spoke with a chill in his tone. "I can tell you exactly how many people died trying to get their hands on this book. Are you still sure that you want it?"
Sandra snorted. She didn't believe
Matthew at all. Didn't he know that they were living in modern society? Fights rarely happened, and murders were even rarer. After all, everyone was caught up in the rat race, so the lie Matthew had spun was far too absurd to be true.
Sandra reached out to snatch at the medical literature and said, "Why wouldn't I want it? It's not as if I'm a scaredy cat. Alright. Now that I've gotten the medical literature you can take Renae away."
Then, Renae wiped away her tears and suddenly warned in a high-pitched voice, "Mom, do you know how Marcus died?"
Sandra had been smiling ear to ear in glee ever since she got a hold of the medical literature, but she frowned as soon as she heard Renae's question. "He died with needles inserted all over his body. Though it's pretty gruesome, what does it have to do with me? It's not as if I'm the murderer!" Sandra had seen how Marcus died, and she was so traumatized by it she couldn't sleep for months, but she eventually got over it with time.
She was in the middle of basking in her happiness when Renae brought it up, so she couldn't help but think that it was much too unlucky of a thing to say. Renae then said, "He died because of this medical literature. There's someone else who wanted this medical literature, but he refused to give it to them." What? Sandra was holding the medical literature in his hands, and she shivered from Renae's words. All of a sudden, she felt as if the thing she was holding wasn't medical literature but a ball of fire.
The image of the needles penetrating into Marcus' skin all over his body surfaced in her mind. He had bled from his nose and mouth, and his face had distorted. It was absolutely horrendous! But Sandra couldn't give up on it completely. After all, the book was far too valuable.
She then tentatively asked Renae, "Renae... You... You must be lying, right?"
Renae then glared at her with distant eyes as tear stains marked her cheeks. "Why would I lie to you? Why do you think I'd give it away instead of keeping it at home if it was that valuable?"
Although she had placed the
medical literature in Sandra's house
back then, it was all for safety measures so no one would notice She never thought of bringing any sort of harm toward Sandra. But now, Renae had worded it that way because she felt hurt by Sandra's actions. noveldrama
Sandra's face had drained of its color from the shock, and she felt as if holding onto the medical literature was equivalent to holding a bomb-a bomb that could explode at any given time. Suddenly, a series of car brakes sounded from outside. There were several cars parked by the entrance of the junkyard, and a group of burly men got down from the cars.
When Sandra was met with this particular scene, she was so scared out of her wits that her hands trembled, and she dropped the medical literature onto the ground. Then, she pointed at Renae and yelled out sternly, "You... You ingrate! How could you harbor such ill intentions? Did you want to see me die?"
