It turned out that there was a big shot visiting. Matthew pushed open the car door and got out. "Let's go. I'll take you home."

Renae nodded. "Guess we don't have much of a choice. First off, I need to let you know that all I have is the Golden Wisdom Pen Pendant, the Afflictan Sect's legacy, at home." Matthew turned to Renae. "What do you mean?"

Matthew approached Renae to get the Golden Wisdom Pen with the 13 Phantom Needles engraved on it and Scholarly Tradition, the medical literature. Getting just one of them meant the mission was only halfway done. Renae frowned. "Back then, Marcus died because of the medical literature. My place was constantly getting robbed. Every time I came back home, it was a disaster.

"You have no idea how thorough they were. They went through every pair of shoes, searched the roof, and checked the furniture.

"When they saw cracks in the wall, they even broke it to check for hidden spots. I couldn't take it anymore, so I hid the medical literature at my parents' house." Matthew was relieved after hearing the reason. "Let's grab the pendant first. Then, we'll swing by your parents' place to retrieve the medical literature."

As Matthew and Renae softly chatted among themselves, Trevor stayed a few steps behind and trailed them.

When Renae pushed open the gate, the yard was empty. She stood at the gate and peered inside. "I thought there would be people here. Where did they go?"

Matthew walked into the yard first, and Renae joined him. They made their way to the front door of the house.

The door suddenly opened with a bang. A group of people came rushing out, surrounding Matthew, Renae, and Trevor in no time.

Terrified, Renae held Matthew's arm and asked, "What should we do? It looks like there are cops too."

Matthew merely furrowed his brows and then watched with a cold expression.

A middle-aged man in a white shirt, gray pants, and black shoes stepped out. He was a little chubby with a rounded face and a big belly. The gold-rimmed glasses made him come across as much more refined. The man had a sharp demeanor and a poker face. He glanced over at Matthew, Renae, and Trevor before fixing his gaze on Matthew.

Matthew immediately got an idea of who he was dealing with. "I suppose you're Ted's uncle. Are you a district leader?"

Gary Monroy's blank expression turned into shock. "So you know me? If you do, why'd you still take a swing at him?"

Matthew coldly replied, "I wasn't looking for a fight. He made the first movie on Renae first."

With a grim expression, Gary glanced at Renae and said, "She's not a young maiden, but just a widow. She should appreciate it when Ted set his eyes on her."

Upon hearing that, Matthew was dumbfounded. He couldn't believe Gary would say something like this.

He decided it was best not to make a scene. He just wanted to get the items and the medical literature back without any further complications.

Holding back his anger, Matthew explained, "Ted attacked me first."

Gary nonchalantly remarked, "I know

Ted. He's just a bit of a

troublemaker. Just let him have his way, you won't end up seriously hurt or die But you should never have hit him, especially going for such an extreme."

Did Gary just say Matthew should let Ted beat him up?

Upon hearing Gary's words, Matthew's face turned red with exasperation at the absurdity and snapped, "Why the hell should I?"

With a menacing look, Gary added,

"Ted should've told you who I am How dare you lay a hand on him? You're not just messing with Ted. You're messing with me."

After saying that, Gary motioned at the cops nearby, and they started closing in on Matthew.

A cold glint flashed in Matthew's eyes. He raised his hand and slapped Gary across his face. A smack rang out suddenly. It was as loud as a firecracker.

Everyone present was shocked. A few cops were so startled that they stopped moving.

Renae covered her mouth as she gaped at Matthew. Even Trevor's expression was filled with disbelief.

Matthew must have been out of his mind. Besides killing an old man and a woman, he even dared to hit a prominent figure like Gary.
