Chapter 7: Finding Dinner

AN: Whew, today has been chaotic. But that won't stop me!

---

'I'm such a horrible person...'

Being led by the hand by an adorable angel should make anyone's day, but for me, that angel was holding onto a hand soaked in her sisters' blood. Once Rena and I had reached the hut where she and the others slept, I carefully found out the names of each of the girls by listening, and tucked this information into a corner of my mind.

After that, we played around with a ball made of inflated skin. Since this was a cannibal's tribe, I hardly had to guess at what kind. Long into the afternoon, we played with the ball. It was hard for me because of the stiffness of my muscle, which I had to work hard in order to move. Still, it was enjoyable to act like a child again. Though, I had never been a normal child in the first place. My older brothers would always take out their excess anger on me, which at first was bearable. I was kind of happy that someone cared enough about me to beat me up, actually. Then the beatings got harder and longer, and pretty soon I wasn't getting beat because my brothers were angry, or frustrated.

They hit me because it was fun.

Still, I preferred beatings to what my sisters did to me.

"Hey Shess! Why're you staring off into space?"

Immediately, I was the center of attention, and all the other girls crowded around and asked me what was wrong. Before I could speak, the pedo arrived and grabbed my hand. Leading me away, he received numerous dirty looks from the girls, but they were powerless to stop him.

Once we were far enough from the children, I turned to the old man and wiped away the moisture in my eyes. It's what I get for thinking about my childhood.

"Kuku, are you so bad at games you cry?"

"Shut your fucking mouth you bastard son of a whore."

The look on his face that reminded me of a fish out of water was almost enough to make me laugh. But, for some reason the happier I got the colder I felt. So much it hurt.

Turning away, I pulled the old man behind me in the direction he had started, and to my surprise I could easily drag him along. I got the feeling I could have picked him up and carried him the whole way.

"ku, we're going to the road, so just turn left. I've got something to show you."

Heading toward the road, we passed several cannibals. Towards the shaman, they show respect. To me,

They show fear.

"You told your tribe about me?"

'kuku, of course. It is expected of me, the shaman, to contract with dangerous spirits in order to bring prosperity and happiness to my tribe."

"Che, prosperity and happiness my ass. You're just an old pedophile or takes too many risks."

"Kuku, so you think my contracting you was taking a risk?"

"There is no thought about it. This contract will end one way."

Dead End

I led the old man in silence the rest of the way.

When we reached the road, the old man started looking around.

"What are you looking for?"

"kuku, I'm trying to think of a way to make it seem like a large magical beast came through this area. But to do that, I'd need twice the mana I have-"

"Fell Wind"

THe dirt froze, then cracked, and frost was left in the shape of a crater.

"This good enough?"

The old man jumped up and down, then told me my instructions. Frowning in distaste, I went to the middle of the crater and lay down.

As far as adventurer party's go, I'm sure mine is one of the more well-off ones. Me and my six companions had set out on a request that required us to escort a merchant caravan through the relatively dangerous forest. There were ogres, giant birds, cannibals, and tribes of goblins. There were even rumors of a kraken living in the lake!

However, the possibility of encountering just one of those was extremely low. Hah, meeting two of them at once would require astronomical odds against you!

Smiling with pride, My companions and i rode further into the forest. After going a little ways in, I felt the temperature drop. Going further in, I started seeing leaves with frost on them, and the mage in our group reported a large amount of ice element having been released all at once. After what seemed like hours, our group arrived at a crater the size of a house. Lying curled up in the middle, shivering violently, was a black-haired girl around the age of eight or nine. As I was about to rush forward, the mage held me back, motioning that he thought this was a trap. It was a common tactic of monsters to disguise themselves as young children in order to draw their prey closer, and this whole situation screamed a set-up.

Cautiously moving closer, the mage analyzed the composition of the little girl, and sighed in relief. Nodding to me, he motioned for me to go ahead and help the little girl. As fast as i could, I knelt by the little girl and turned her over. Her eyes were open and she was shivering, which let me know she was alive. Gently laying my coat over her, my hand bumped into her arm. Her arm felt like stone. Ice-cold stone. Shivering, I yelled to my companions to get a fire started, and saw the little girl motion that she wanted to say something.

Leaning closer, I heard her small voice shaking from the cold.

"I-I'm s-so sorry..."

I smiled down at her, and whispered that it was okay, she'd be safe now.

Leaning further toward me, pressingher chest up against mine, she whispered in my ear, her voice no longer shaking.

As she did, I noticed something. The absence of a heartbeat.

"May god bless your soul, and curse mine as he always has."

"Fell WInd"

---

The battle, if it could be called that, was over before it started. I caught them by surprise and killed their mage along with three of their warriors, then demolished the other two who came charging at me. After that, I wiped out the remaining members of the convoy.

If this undead body could cry, I would have. But, sadly, the only moisture I had had remaining in my body was used to shed a single tear.

At least, that was the excuse I gave for not grieving over the death of thirty-something people.

The longer I stay in this body, the more I feel as if I'm a monster, and the less I feel it is because I'm a spirit, and instead believe something else.

All these years of misery...

Perhaps it is my turn to inflict misery upon the world.

I can't help but feel excited.

I've done a terrible, terrible thing in posting this poll.

Any hindus out there, I respect Gandhi a great deal, but the masses demand cheap humor.

And I deliver.

What was I delivering again...?

Oh right, cupcakes! The ones with sprinkles!

Poor pre-industrial village in the middle of nowhere where no one will miss you, you were a noble sacrifice. The cupcakes must go on!

What was the point of this comment...?
