Chapter 69 - Hunting a Giant Winter Snake

Chapter 69 - Hunting a Giant Winter Snake

Three weeks have passed since our team who got sent to Moldovia and have returned in one piece to our main camp, and things haven't changed that much. The soldiers were just protecting their camp, staying hidden in some dense trees and forest and waiting for Turks to appear from somewhere and to give them an ambush. Josh and Roger were working hard in that village that got burned, but that village isn't the one I and Fiona entered to kill those cannibals, and I know this because yesterday I paid a visit to the village, also, it would have been impossible because our camp has moved so much further from that village who was burned from the ground.

Speaking of Fiona, the knight I've been working for over a while, she started coaching the recruits, a pretty good gesture, and, I trained with the help of my mother's teacher, Mr. Derek. It helped me perfect the target for certain spells, such as a new one, which came from my last meeting with Professor Derek, I say "Star Finger," a spell that launches a star that can cause the armour to turn to sand. I also explained to Derek that some of the spells in the spell book he has to disappear, and Derek explained to me that this is normal in small spell books, and he also explained to me that most wizards take big book spells because the spells remain there for many years or even eternity. And he also told me that some spells would appear in the book, but it will take time.

This morning, when I left my tent, I observed around me something weird, on the ground, everything is covered with some white and cold things. Then, I realize something, that the Winter has come and the time of snowing has also come. This is the first time I have experienced winter outside my Orphanage and the Kingdom. And I bet this is not the first time Fiona when experienced snow outside the Kingdom because I saw her who is walking on the camp covered in some blankets who can keep her warm because this woman is just wearing a shirt, short pants, but some pieces of armours on the elbows or her legs.

"Judah! Do you want to go hunting?" asks me when she saw that I left my tent.

"Sure. But first, let me change is something much warmer and take my weapons."

"Alright," says Fiona who comes much closer to my tent and waits for me while I take some clothes on me.

I take a blouse from the corner of the tent, put it on top of the one I'm wearing because it's thin, which I got from one of those villagers when I helped them look through the ruins for something useful and left alive, and then I take a pair of shoes, which I got from a squire when I healed his left leg from Fiona's training. And finally, I put on an iron armour, just in case because, in winter, winter beasts appear, and that monster looks like some sort of wild animals, such as bears, wolves, or deer, but these, have cold magic and they could even freeze the target or destroy it by using the ice powers.

After I have finished equipping myself in something much warmer, I take the weapons, which are my spell book, and the wand, then left the tent. After I left the ten, Fiona and I are walking into the forest, which is a few hundred meters from our camp.

"You have a free day today?" I ask her when we have arrived in the woods.

"Yeap," says Fiona who is taking the lead and carrying on her back the giant sword she is always equipping.

"Good... So, how are the students?"

"Some are good. And some are bad. But, you are one of those goods."

"Aha... Hey! I have also trained in using some spells."

"Great."

"A spell who is called "Start Finger" who can literally make the armour into the sand."

"So it makes the armour vaporized," says Fiona while both of us are jumping over a log that is in our way.

"Vaporized?"

"It is the term you use when armour is transforming into sand or it just completely disappeared."

"Ah. I get it. I have never heard of that word."

"Really? You are reading a lot of books, boy."

"Yes. But I have never actually read or heard about this word."

"I see."

And after that, we walk for a few minutes without talking because when you hunt, you have to be quiet and not tell a single word, because hunting a wild animal is like fishing, to catch the prey, you have to be sneaky, with two steps forward and also have a good aim if you are a marksman or a wizard.

---

The first animal we have encountered was a large winter snake. This snake is one of those Winter beasts, and he is totally different from the other snakes from his family and his breed. And the reason it is different is that he can throw ice liquid into you, and that ice liquid can paralyse an entire man, it doesn't matter the size, age, or colour, he can ice everybody if that ice venom hits someone, on any ports of the body.

Fiona just decided to leave her hideout, equipping her sword and walking at a normal speed in front of that snake. This movement was surprising for some reason because this is the first winter monster I have encountered so far and also Fiona, she was just going straight to that monster without discussing the strategy, but I think my strategy would be the same, stay back and support her by throwing random speels into the monster and heal or shield her.

The monster saw Fiona coming to him, and start to hiss at her, but that didn't stop Fiona from walking right in from of him. I prepare my wand to use the spell "Piercing Rocks", a spell that launches a barrage of rocks into a target for three seconds at a very high speed. But Fiona, did something expected, she took the sword and then she jumps on the monster, but right when the monster was about to split his ice venom, Fiona, who was in the mid-air just throws her sword like it was some kind of spear, right into the head of the monster, which made him move like every animal who got hit by something deadly, or not just that deadly. And after a few seconds, the monster died when Fiona landed on his head, and she pushes the sword with one hand into the area of the head of that ice reptile, making him die faster.

"Are you alright?" I asked Fiona when she took the sword from the head of that snake.

"Yes!" she says to me after he jumped from the monster and started to use her sword again, but this time, to open the stomach of that snake because a knife wouldn't do the job to a reptile with an armour that is entirely made out of ice.

I come closer to her to see how she is doing and then, I asked her.

"Are we going to eat this thing?"

"No. We are going to use the meat of this thing to attract other animals." she says to me after she made a big hole into that snake's stomach. "Eating animals who have winter element it is poisonous, Judah."

"I understand."

"... Tell me, Judah. How do you feel?" she suddenly asked me after she took with her sword a big piece of that giant snake's stomach.

"I'm sorry, what?"

"The fact that we haven't heard about those warriors we have sent to Turkey Empire."

"To be honest, I forget about them. But, I think they are somehow alright."

"Let's hope."

"... I think they made it."

"How are you sure?"

"Because they are like you." and after I said that, Fiona turned her head to me and she was looking at me like that girl who realized she got compared to someone. "You know... Strong. Independent... And also good at fighting."

"Yeah..." she said after she put her giant sword down and then she put on some gloves. "Say that to our warrior, Fred."

"Fred is an exception there."

When Fiona she has put the gloves one, she takes that giant meat part of the stomach and then she walks with it nineteen meters distance from me, and then she runs to me and says that we must hide now because the monster we are going to catch it will be a big one. Both of us are hiding in a tree, at a close distance from me, we are climbing the tree and we are staying there and ready to haunt the beast who will come here and take that meat piles. While we were waiting to catch that monster, I was started to think, out of nowhere, about something strange... the spell book.
