Chapter 92: Making a Yo-Yo for Little Dumpling

Chapter 92: Making a Yo-Yo for Little Dumpling

The piece of redwood that the assistant worker was working on was small. It was beautifully evenly circler. Liu Tián Qǔ was so amazed that the assistant woodworker was able to produce such a beautiful finished product with no technology. Suddenly Liu Tián Qǔ thought of a Yo-Yo. The size of wood that the woodworker was working on was about the size and just as evenly circler as a Yo-Yo. Yet the woodworker was able to stencil a beautiful piece of art onto such a small piece of wood. Liu Tián Qǔ felt such admiration for the skills of the woodworker.

Suddenly a light bulb went off in Liu Tián Qǔ's mind, and she thought of the wooden beautiful homemade Yo-Yo's she saw on the internet in her past life. She had even bought one for her nephew Little Taro. A Yo-Yo would be a wonderful gift for Little Dumpling to help alleviate his boredom for a while.

Liu Tián Qǔ quickly hurried back over to the woodshop owner and carefully explained what she wanted. The woodshop owner yelled for one of the assistants to bring over whatever Liu Tián Qǔ needed to draw what she had in mind. Liu Tián Qǔ carefully sketched out the four separate pieces of a Yo-Yo. What the assembled product should look like. She explained to the woodshop owner that the carving his assistant was doing was the perfect size for what she needed.

Liu Tián Qǔ just spent a large amount of money in his shop, of course, the woodshop owner was going to make sure she got just what she wanted. The woodshop owner immediate yelled for his assistant to come over. After several minutes of discussion, Liu Tián Qǔ and the assistant woodworker went back over to his workplace. In less than twenty minutes, Liu Tián Qǔ was playing with a beautiful redwood Yo-Yo with intricate, beautiful carvings on it.

The poor assistant woodworker was so shocked to see what he helped to create. He begged Liu Tián Qǔ to show him how to play with the Yo-Yo. As the Liu Tián Qǔ and the assistant woodwork played with the Yo-Yo Liu Tián Qǔ happened to glance over at the woodshop owner. Liu Tián Qǔ inwardly laughed when she looked at the woodshop owner. His eyes were fixated on the Yo-Yo that the assistant woodworker was playing with. Liu Tián Qǔ could practically see the glitter of gold in his eyes.

Of course, the woodshop owner wouldn't allow Liu Tián Qǔ to purchase the Yo-Yo. The Yo-Yo was a beautiful piece of work. It was made with redwood and had beautiful intricate carvings on it. It was a lovely gift to give Little Dumpling.

Because it was Liu Tián Qǔ's idea, the woodshop owner asked Liu Tián Qǔ permission to make it and sell it in his shop. Liu Tián Qǔ agreed to allow it only if the assistant woodworker was given a small percentage of profit. It was because of his skillful, beautiful carving that Liu Tián Qǔ even thought of the Yo-Yo.

As it turned out, the assistant woodworker was the woodshop owner's son. When Liu Tián Qǔ heard that, she left them to discuss how they would share the profit. The woodshop owner packaged the Yo-Yo into a small beautiful dark wood stain box. Liu Tián Qǔ left after ordering more yo-yo's to be delivered with the rest of the things she ordered.

As Liu Tián Qǔ sat under night sky drinking off the last of her strengthen potion, she counted off the days since she reincarnated. She was a bit shocked when she counted off about 24 days. So much had happened in the short amount of time since she reincarnated. Liu Tián Qǔ couldn't believe it's only been only approximately 24 days. Releasing a deep breath, Liu Tián Qǔ thought on what the next several days would bring. If there was one thing she knew for sure, it was that she would not be going to watch Minister Lan and Elder Chen get executed with death by a thousand cuts.

Liu Tián Qǔ was aware that she would have to change her mentality towards death. Being reincarnated into an ancient time made Liu Tián Qǔ realize that people in ancient eras had a closer relationship with death. Not just the warriors and nobility, even the commoners had a closer relationship with death. Death was everywhere.

Earlier during the day, Liu Tián Qǔ had exited the woodshop and almost stepped on a dead body that was in the process of being scooped up to be carried away. The people in the area were casually discussing the death of the person as though it was no big deal that someone just lost their life. Liu Tián Qǔ felt so sick to her stomach she almost vomited.

The person beaten to death was a slave. The slave had displeased their master and was quickly beaten to death right there in the street. What disturbed Liu Tián Qǔ the most was the slave could have been no older than thirteen to fourteen years old.

Never have Liu Tián Qǔ run into a situation like that in the 21st century, and she traveled to many countries. Liu Tián Qǔ was not naive, although she grew up sheltered. Liu Tián Qǔ was aware that there was a dark side and an underworld alive in the 21st century. However, she was never exposed to it. Neither was the majority of the common population.

Never in her past life for any reason did she image she would come face to face with death in the manner in which she did this afternoon. Liu Tián Qǔ had seen tons of movies in her previous life about killing and dying and death. She saw plenty of tragedies on the news. Watch tons of war documentaries, even visited several third world countries. However, never had she seen a dead body with her own to eyes, much less a dead body that carried the wounds of being violently beaten to death.

Liu Tián Qǔ read tons of web novels about people reincarnating to an ancient era that suddenly start run around killing people and was okay with it. She also read plenty of reincarnation novels about people who reincarnated to an ancient era that had to become killers to survive. She knew that eventually, she would be faced with having to kill someone. The modern times and ancient times are totally two completely different eras. Liu Tián Qǔ was aware that to survive, she too would have to become comfortable facing and doing things she never had to face or do in her past life.

Because the sight disturbed Liu Tián Qǔ so much. Liu Tián Qǔ found herself following the men who had unceremoniously scooped up the dead body. The body was carried outside of the Imperial city, and just as the men were about to toss into an opened mass grave. Liu Tián Qǔ stopped them.

The odor in the area was so overpowering bad that Liu Tián Qǔ was barely able to stop the men from tossing the body in the open mass grave. So was to busy vomiting up the noddles she ate earlier that afternoon. She had stopped by her favorite noodle shop where she met Little Dumpling to eat lunch.

The stench of death in the area was just too overpowering. Liu Tián Qǔ paid the men ten gold each to quickly bring the body away. They found a lone rugged, flat-crowned pine tree off the roadway and buried the unfortunate youth under it.

Liu Tián Qǔ didn't bury the unfortunate youth out of the goodness of her heart. As she followed the men, who had carried away the dead body, an idea had occurred to her. So she decided to give it a try.

Liu Tián Qǔ's instincts told her that eventually, she was going to have to come to terms with death and killing. That's just how things were in ancient times. The weak would be devoured. That was also why Liu Tián Qǔ had threatened the servants of her house to have anyone who was caught selling out her house beaten to death. To show them that she wasn't weak and to protect herself. However, she prayed that she would never have to carry out that threat. Liu Tián Qǔ would order the death of anyone that is caught if she had to. She just prayed she never had to. To Liu Tián Qǔ, survival came first. If that's what it took to survive, then she would grit her teeth and do it.

T/N: Similar to the Yo-Yo crafted for Little Dumpling except Little Dumpling's Yo-Yo's didn't have grooves. It had intricate carvings.
